English Language & Usage: Multi-Layer

Not for the faint of heart or those easily triggered by English (or other languages) in the raw. That doesn't mean we want to talk about YouTube comments or hemorrhoids or other such topics.

SURVEY: Todos North Americans from anywhere north of the Darién Gap should por favor take Dr Geoff Lindsey’s North American English Survey, especially if you’re a ɴᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ English speaker. He’s trying to tease out our ᴘʜᴏɴᴇᴍɪᴄ inventories for a new edition of his team’s highly configurable free online pronouncing dictionary to cover cis-Atlantic dialects. ¡Miles gracias!

@CowperKettle Another signs of how deeply ingrained Confucian values are is when I witnessed going to a Chinese restaurant with my dad who by that time had to be on walker and walked very slowly from the car to the front door, while I'm standing next to him just in case he needs assistance. A Chinese family who arrived just after, holding the door open for us and waited about a full minute instead of just going in first, out of respect for my dad who was oldest in that impromptu group.

Quote of the day (NJTODAY.NET): "However, the two sides will pretend to fight over the health of the nation because politics has become a form of entertainment that distracts citizens from demanding real change."

> 1 Ideology produces disagreement, but stupidity produces befuddlement.
2 Stupidity often inheres in organizations, not individuals.
3 People who behave stupidly are more dangerous than people who behave maliciously.
4 People who behave stupidly are unaware of the stupidity of their actions.
5 Stupidity is nearly impossible to oppose.
6 The opposite of stupidity is not intelligence, it’s rationality.

If only we could convince China and Japan to start using 'ciao' as a gretting/farewell, then we could have a real United Nations.

@Lambie Exactly what part of "DO NOT ANSWER THIS. AT ALL." did you fail to understand? You are being disruptive. Take a vacation.
3
Jan 19 15:31
@Lambie Stop stirring the pot. You will learn to turn the other cheek. Disrupting communities in petty acts of retributive vengeance destroys them from within. It will not be permitted. And don't answer this. At all.

In the Realm of the Senses (French: L'Empire des sens, Japanese: 愛のコリーダ, Ai no Korīda, "Bullfight of Love") is a 1976 erotic art film written and directed by Nagisa Ōshima. It is a fictionalised and sexually explicit treatment of a 1936 murder committed by Sada Abe. An international coproduction of France and Japan, the film generated great controversy at the time of its release. The film had the involvement of pink film luminary Kōji Wakamatsu as co-screenwriter and assistant producer. While intended for mainstream wide release, the film contains scenes of unsimulated sexual activity between the...

@Araucaria-Him I maintain my position that the worst offenders among the close voters should get a stern warning from the mods, followed by a suspension if they don't stop. I see no other viable solution to the problem, other than outright banning migration.

I think, of the many points I'm not making clear, is that there are thousands of actual experts, who are paid to be experts, that -could- give good and accurate and helpful answers, but there's no reason to come here to do it for free.

If I have a very bad headache, toothache, what have you, I will take high doses of paracetamol only. If you haven't turned your liver to stone with alcohol, you can take 4 g of paracetamol a day. That's much superior to these kidney-killing painkillers.

@Cerberus research melatonin? Well, there's a sort of bias that I can't name . . . Obviously it's supposed to be 'evidence-based medicine' so my typical retort for cash grabbing placebos in the market is "where's your RCT? Huh huh huh?" But realistically people that can do good research avoid what's already built on shaky ground like the plague. There's nobody out there to do some Mythbusters work on whether if any of the hundreds of supplements I sell at the pharmacy actually do something
