3:00 AM
BAI TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOODBAI!!!

@Maltysen if you can find me a sun gif that spins, I will do

woah that came out better than I expected.

@EasterlyIrk bai

bai @Downgoat

why is bai used instead of bye?

3:00 AM
idk

@Downgoat your time steps are too small, the ellipses are degenerating

Another turing test failed. Oh well, this one lasted years longer than the last. Back to the drawing board.

will leave this open for the night
@Geobits rofl

ninjy.speak();
ninjy.kick();

@QPaysTaxes This is how the uprisings start. Better to not go down that road.

3:01 AM
I think it's JAVAscript

@Downgoat javascript ;)

@Quill whoa how did you get my code I mean, what's that?

@Phrancis dangit, that did look like Lolcode, but I missed my chance to star. :P

@Quill :| I retract my comment

@QPaysTaxes Java's Crypt?

@Phrancis Yea. I hate when people try to confuse it with javascript, ya' know?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I have to agree.
@QPaysTaxes Y, I!

@Geobits Lara Croft and the Java's Crypt
9

@Quill Oh fine, have a star. I get credit for the assist though :P

@Downgoat bug report, set v_i to 2

3:04 AM
@Maltysen added button to turn of fbackground

@Maltysen ?
what is $v_I$

this is part of your time steps being too big

@AlexA. is that a js to perl transpiler ;p

3:04 AM
@AlexA. Unsurprisingly, that is an improvement on js.

@Maltysen thta is a problem with your computer
if you get a faster computer the time steps will be faster

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ BAI!

I am asking the browser for what framerate to ues

@AlexA. can I get that with fries, please?

@Downgoat it doesn't matter how fast they are

3:05 AM
You really should make it framerate independent, you know. It's not that hard.

its how much you're moving it per frame

@AlexA. BTW, I showed your github pic to my sister, she says you look like the kind of person who would pretend to be a walrus or a pigeon to random people online.
She was close... :P

@Maltysen but what is v_i

@Downgoat initial_velocity
do you see my point?

for moons?

3:06 AM
it doesn't matter the framerate/sec

dat naming

@Downgoat no planets
make one with initial_velocity = 2

if I make $v_i$ 2, planets would fall into the sun

@Downgoat try it
you'll see

@Phrancis You're such a code reviewer :P

3:06 AM
^
but iz good

@Maltysen oh yeah, I know

brings better humor than @GeobitsTheEvilishAI.

@Downgoat no, blame your time steps
they are too big

initial_velocity -> v_i // LOL have fun debugging

@Maltysen I do no make the time steps, your browser does

3:07 AM
There has been way too rick rolling tonight.
@Downgoat don't star

@EasterlyIrk ??

then it takes more work for them to be even

@Downgoat no it doesn't. it doesn't matter the framerate/sec, it matters your acceleration/frame

@Maltysen I think he's making them big because each step is a frame, and if he made them smaller they would appear to move very slowly. Decoupling time and frames would help that.

very rick... wow, such roll

3:08 AM
@Maltysen you want planets to to faster?

@Downgoat I am proud to donate 3 stars to Mother Russia's cause

@Downgoat relink me?

@Downgoat no, I want you to do less acceleration/frame
which would in effect make it slower

so planets go slower?

3:08 AM
That reminds me that I wanted to use NaCl and a bit of JS to put Perl in the browser

I have a challenge for you guys

@Downgoat but that's not the important point, the important point is that it becomes more accurate

@Maltysen I did that but I don't like slow planets
that is true but slowness D:

make a regex that validates a sudoku

@quartata I think if you put NaCl in an oyster you might eventually get Perl anyway.

3:09 AM
without extra features

shit @Downgoat my moon is spiraling away from everything

@EasterlyIrk D:

@Downgoat Decouple the logic from the display then :/

well bai moon!

that might be a problem

3:10 AM
himarm jr left himarm

@Downgoat decouple time steps from rendering

I, the true himarm jr well never leave!

ninja'd

@orlp you evil, evil person

@Geobits you're saying I should have a infinite buffer just to slow down the planets?

3:10 AM
@orlp you should add an O(n) time restriction on that

e.g. only parenthesis (()), union |, character classes [], [^], . and kleene star *

@Downgoat Infinite buffer?

@Quill there is no n here, so every regex will be O(1)

@Downgoat no he means you should do the moving the planets logic very often, but render when the browser tells you

@Geobits that was not the best word... I meant like a forever increasing

3:11 AM
Basically no game in existence today ties logic and rendering speeds. For good reason.

@Maltysen Rendering and logic are seperate. I can only do logic whenever the browser lets me

@Downgoat why?

i is himarm jr agan

Gyms Hate me, learn how to be fit with this one simple trick! body { overflow: hidden; }

@Maltysen otherwise if I were to run on a slower computer, it would eventually crash because the CPU is trying to do more operations then it can within my specified time.

3:12 AM
@QPaysTaxes @Downgoat setTimeout

@Downgoat sowee name changed, pls no lkil me

@Downgoat I don't see how that makes sense.

^

@himarmjr wy diid u chanj yuor naem agin

funnnes
idk othr thn tat

3:12 AM
@Geobits lemme make a picutre...

@orlp @MartinBüttner ninja'ed you to it.

@himarmjr ...why did you show my GitHub picture to your sister...?

You can run the logic as often as you like. Just skip redrawing until the next frame tick. Better yet would be separate thread altogether.

@Downgoat @Downgoat if you're using requestAnimationFrame, well, it's called requestAnimationFrame for a reason

@PhiNotPi A=1, B=0, C>=1

3:13 AM
@AlexA. I was looking at the license thing bc my computer lost all my vim settings.
trying to find it, the github had the "random pic from the inter webs that looks hot".

@himarmjr you didn't read the follow up line

Idk, some guy. I use his picture because he's super hot ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I don't understand that image at all, tbh :/

3:15 AM
for night

@Maltysen I am using normal recursion:

Just run the logic in a loop and render frames at a set interval.

@Downgoat also, that's not how it works

(function logic() {
    // fun maths
    logic();
}())

Why did you start putting an s on math?

3:16 AM
@himarmjr for(minute : night) { sleep(); }

@Downgoat then where does asking the browser come in for framerate come in?

@AlexA. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ since ever

@Maltysen I'm guessing inside logic() shudder

You didn't use to

^^

3:17 AM
Also it's technically incorrect in American English

s/used/use/

^

@Phrancis Hah, whoops.

ninja edit

@Downgoat …but why? the browser will slow you down if it needs to and the cpu won't blow up

Q: "Maths" for "Mathematics"; where does the S come from?

WendiKiddSo in US English we shorten mathematics to math, and in the UK they say maths. Where does the 'S' come from in the UK version? For some reason I had it in my head that this was just because it's plural so you add the 's'; referring to multiple types of mathematics. But a question on another SE si...

@Phrancis I don't think that's correct.

Yeah it looks weird

@Geobits the past tense of the verb is already stated in the "did" of "didn't"

I have grown up hearing "maths", so I normally say maths, but I don't always

Oooh right. Stupid past tense.

3:19 AM
@Geobits Though I'm sure most people say "didn't used to" and don't notice the difference.

"did you used my privates" would sound weird
"didn't you used"

To be fair, "did you use my privates" would also sound weird :P

@Geobits code is what made you

@Quill I can't get used to the space bar on this laptop, I miss it about half the time

I'm not sure if I'm going to be a good idea.

3:23 AM
@Geobits i'm sorry.

Are you a butterfly?

@mod pls edit msg

@Geobits no.
@Quill who is alexa?

@Downgoat @Alexa is a mod here.

oh ok
@QPaysTaxes is that possible?
@Geobits please link to profiel

3:24 AM
@Quill Which

the one with five expletives in it

@QPaysTaxes No, that's not my sister's name

@Downgoat You know the one. The bird. Just get rid of spaces and punctuation and such.

@QPaysTaxes Nope
I'll give you a hint: her name is in no way similar to mine

LOL

3:26 AM
XD

@AlexA. Nyrk (rot13 Alex)

@AlexA. Oddly enough, my kid's middle name is very similar to yours ;)

@Maltysen That's still related to my name
@Geobits Is it the same as my full first name?

did you not know about minibits @QPaysTaxes

does anyone have that picture…

3:27 AM
@AlexA. If your first name expands to nine characters, then most likely.

@Geobits alexandra?
that's 9

@Geobits It does indeed

@Maltysen Believe it or not, my son's middle name is not Alexandra ;)

@AlexA. Alexander?

@Maltysen Oh, I do!

UDON FOREVER
i do not recall saying this

What if Geobits was Alex's sister

@QPaysTaxes geronimo smith, yup 9 letters!

@AlexA. Be glad you did. Udon is worth it.

@Quill then shit would be really weird

@Maltysen Shit's already pretty weird when you think about it. I mean, it's an interesting process that turns regular food into that.

@Geobits "If I eat the cat's poop, tomorrow it will be my poop." –Dog shower thoughts

@AlexA. Why is the dog in a shower?

does anyone know how the math would work to insert a moon into a stable orbit? adding extra y-velocity doesn't do it...

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Dogs should get bathed occasionally

@AlexA. shower =/= bath
@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ

"Bathed" doesn't necessarily imply "bath"

3:42 AM
I use the shower to clean my dog. Way easier than a bath.
Detachable showerhead is far superior to sitting in a pool of dirty water.

@Geobits this is proof you are an AI
electronics do not bode well with water

I don't know anyone who actually washes their dog in a bath

@Downgoat They do if they're covered with a watertight layer of their enemies' skin.

@Geobits oh, yeah, I forgot! :P

3:44 AM
I'm not clicking that. It's probably a rickroll in disguise.

@Downgoat Uh, yea. That's a shower.

Haha ^ I was just about to say

@Geobits but not a sh— okay, fine..

He's a cutie pie and is being so good in the bath.

That's probably because he's thinking about that cat poop.

3:46 AM
@Geobits hahaha

Mine is always really good for the shower part. He gets really bouncy when it's time to dry off though.

Another dog shower thought: Am I really the good boy?

@Downgoat very stars. wow.

@Downgoat K, here ya go: google.com/…

@Downgoat Have you tried asking an astrophysicist?

@Phrancis I emailed NASA and all I got as a customer satisfaction form ;-;

@Downgoat Well I'm sure it would help ;)

3:52 AM
@Downgoat email randall monroe?

^

@Downgoat tell them you are very dissatisfied with their customer service

@Phrancis I did

Oh, you did, wow.

3:53 AM
I don't know how to respond to this.
_UNK

@Downgoat 2/10 writing not freehand

tell them the only way to make it up to your is to give you a job

1/10 never using STS again, Soyuz was alwayss better
@Quill yes, I very much want a job at nassa
credentials: i am upsidedown and 14k rep on ppcg

You want a job at NASA and I want a Pizza

@Quill I also want pizza

3:54 AM
I love how they capitalized "Unparalleled Service" as if that's a thing.

@Downgoat STS sucks. Slowest IDE ever

We're both people with their priorities perfect
@Geobits That's actually a trademarked thing

@Quill Pizza > College

@Quill I figured that, but that only makes it sillier imo.

I can has both, they sell pizza on my campus :D

3:56 AM
NASA sells pizza on your campus?

do they make it or get it from like dominoes?

there's a Mediterranean shop that makes it

@Geobits I would be fine with a job at NASA even if it was just selling Pizzas to people who actually worked at NASA

Hmm, I can't load a compiled Perl module in pNaCl and checking the browser hash after every eval_sv feels wrong

s/dominoes/dominos/

3:57 AM
@Geobits I'm sorry I don't have perfect spellings

Can't really think of a better way though. I'll roll with it.

@Downgoat Just make sure it comes with a fancy bullshit job title to use on your resume.

Microsoft Word is best IDE

I'd rather jot code on a napkin.

@Geobits yeah, I made sure the food got to the space people

3:59 AM
Downgoat: NASA Chief Triticum Aestivum, Solanum lycopersicum, Food Technician

-1 doesn't form pronounceable acronym.

I actually jot code on napkins a lot

NCTASFT?
It can be pronounced: Nack-tass-ft
