@Dennis Thank you!! BTW, any idea why our answers to "Hard/soft" objects may have been downvoted? A downvote means "not useful". ¿?

\n, \t,
\b, \a

@LuisMendo Some people don't like golfing languages...

Not really. What if you want to print \n literally?
Oh, duh I see what you meant.

12:08 AM

Hey @QPaysTaxes

hai @Cyoce

hai @EasterlyIrk

\a for sure
and yeah, \xHHHH

\uNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnn

12:10 AM
@Dennis probably salty. ¯\(ツ)/¯

that got mangled. :P

\¯_ツ¯/(_)

isn't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
more common?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ are you ok?

12:11 AM
^
i don't think so

Deep down we are all not okay.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ now put it through zalgo text.

@QPaysTaxes You can't have an empty else. The comment is unrelated.

12:15 AM
@QPaysTaxes nope

@Dennis That must be it

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ w.t.f
Walter Thomas Fredrikson

@QPaysTaxes You could do pass

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Hard to tell if the actual text is horizontal or vertical

@QPaysTaxes In (almost) any other language you have braces.

@QPaysTaxes try 1
else:
    1
that works
or 1#test
1 isn't code. 'Tis expression.

Python demands an indented line after an if/else.

It's for readability

This is what became of my essay.
:(

12:20 AM
@EasterlyIrk D:

This is my other one.
#i'mscrewed

@QPaysTaxes To be fair, you couldn't do the same thing in C/C++.

@QPaysTaxes durk majik
and a failed auto-update.
Q_Q
2 weeks work.
:(

Yeah, but you still need `{}`.
`else //comment` is not fine.

SE needs to fix the chat markdown.

Exactly. The same way python requires "an indented block"
But the comment is not code.

Is there a (more well-known) language that uses chains/links like Jelly does?

C requires code.
In this case {}
@Cyoce J
I think

@QPaysTaxes because it removes comments before compiling/interpreting.
So the part that checks for empty if/elses never sees the comment.

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Exactly. Python should allow the same thing. An indented block with no content should be analogous to C's {}

12:24 AM
@QPaysTaxes durk majik supportation iz teh tru reazon

I know.
if foo:
  blah()
else:

blah2()
This is what Python sees (since comments are stripped out).
And you can't deny that looks wrong readability wise.

Because the interpreter never sees that.

I don't think comments should ever affect flow of control.

12:34 AM
@QPaysTaxes because it wasn't fixed. That is the reality. Deal with it.

Because comments shouldn't affect control flow.

You know why it exists. Accept it. Move on. Do something more with your life.
:P

But that's not what Python sees. The comments are stripped out before whitespace even considered. They could redo the parser structure entirely but why bother?
This is much more consistent behavior when you think about it.

Think of comments like whitespace.
Anyways Python devs have far bigger fish to fry than redoing their parser for something so small. It's not laziness.

12:40 AM
@quartata what is viewmodel?

@Downgoat Viewmodels are the annoying gun things that take up unnecessary screen space

oh ok

@QPayTaxes Comments are indentation insensitive but delimited and whitespace sensitive. I don't think it would be easy in their current parser at all.

just... press tab?

I'm on mobile there is no tab

12:43 AM
@QPaysTaxes why am I being pinged in this?

@quartata use replies

I'm on the old UI

why

there's a new UI?

@Doorknob it makes dolphin go screwy. probably because this phone is super old

12:45 AM
@quartata ... dolphin?

dolphin browser

they're like the mammals of the ocean

you know the one that's good

codingspecialty.blogspot.com/2016/04/… <-- anyone who uses javascript must read this

That's a screaming deal.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't remember them.

12:48 AM
Chat mini-challenge: given an integer n > 1 as input, output n \ s, a o, and n /s

Forget about 10MB HDD. 64 KiB of RAM? o_O

> 8 bit microproccesor

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ uhmm... I have no idea how to parse this
what are s, a, and o, and where did they come from?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ so s/n, n/s and what else?
and ^^

Lemme rephrase
1 => \o/, 2 => \\o//, etc.

12:51 AM
oh

> n > 1

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ n=>'\\'.repeat(n)+'o'+'/'.repeat(n)

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ GolfScript _'\*'o@'\*

@Doorknob *>=1

think
oh shit forgot to eval

12:53 AM
11 ++*\\Q\o*\/

Python, 25 bytes
`lambda x:'\\'*x+'o'+'/'*x`

V 10 bytes
`@aé\é0@aé/`

TeaScript 10 bytes: Rσ+'o'+xRσ

can this be a pop-con?

Too bad I forgot to add repeat to pl. Would be 7 bytes

12:56 AM
@Doorknob What language is that?

pyth

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Pyth

Pyth

TRIPLE NINJA

sumo'd

12:57 AM
OMEGA NINJA!

jolf, 10 bytes: Ά*'\x'o*'/
