@ewwhite You really want me to keygen ESXi don't you? lol
I dunno if my boss would agree with that >.>

@Dan you need to bleach your keyboard...

@DennisKaarsemaker That is pretty sweet

@NathanC How else will you get to play with the fun stuff?
By the way, I've never needed to down vote as many questions as I have the past few days...

Q: mtr output with high packet loss on one hop

MikeyBI'm investigating a complaint of poor performance from an end user accessing a site I help maintain. I have these two mtr outputs to the end user, the first from the site: Packets Pings Host Loss% Snt Last ...

SO COMPLICATE

at times it's up to 7% and now it's dropping fewer

@Iain desktop on windows?

@MikeyB my desktop is windows yes

@Iain Sorry, Windows is not supported.

3:13 PM
;)

@MikeyB nobody at SE HQ cares about windows :(

Dan
@DennisKaarsemaker Doesn't it run on Windows?

@Dan I know. That was a poor attempt at trolling...

@Dan Yeah I'm with you. We're not going to hand-hold you to learn Excel.

3:16 PM
@ewwhite I have entered the dark side

@NathanC you're using supermicro?

No :P

Keygen!

@NathanC nexenta?

I broke you, @NathanC!!

3:18 PM
I just got the worst news ever.

@ewwhite You did...and it was glorious

@MikeyB I wonder if it's possible using odbc ;)
@cole Your grilfriend dumped you?

@Dan just walk away

@TomO'Connor no, that'd be good news.

@cole you're reinstalling all win2k servers as NT4?

3:20 PM
Doctor said I need to avoid alcohol :(

@ewwhite Server 2003 didn't take the new memory though...so I have to reboot it anyway

@cole noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

@cole nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Dan
@Iain I'll try
I do like to help people, though

@DennisKaarsemaker @NathanC right? So sad.

3:20 PM
@cole More appropriately, nooooooooooooooo.com

@cole To which you said "I'd rather die"?

Sad Cole is sad.

@Dan It took me a long time to get to grips with it but once you do it's easy and life is simpler

'cuz my doctor didn't think that was funny...

@Tanner I may if I keep drinking
/tableflip
FUCK THA POLICE

3:21 PM
@cole so now you're switching to coke?

Liver problems, or just too much drinking in general?

@Tanner my doctor would probably say "Well if that's what you want ..."

@DennisKaarsemaker Gonna have to :P
@Tanner they found fat on my liver.

@cole Isn't that where fat lives?

@TomO'Connor it's on it, causing pressure/pain/making me sick

3:23 PM
@cole Yeah, saw that yesterday. Caused from excessive drinking, or something else?

liposuction?

liversuction

Fatty liver, also known as fatty liver disease (FLD), is a reversible condition wherein large vacuoles of triglyceride fat accumulate in liver cells via the process of steatosis (i.e., abnormal retention of lipids within a cell). Despite having multiple causes, fatty liver can be considered a single disease that occurs worldwide in those with excessive alcohol intake and the obese (with or without effects of insulin resistance). The condition is also associated with other diseases that influence fat metabolism. It is difficult to distinguish alcoholic FLD from nonalcoholic FLD, and both...

I'm still heavy for my height - but I'm at a 36" waist.

@MikeyB That's an awful conversation to be having...

131kg to 120. I still have a ways to go.

3:27 PM
@TheCleaner done

Dan
I'm about 90Kg

@NathanC I just saw the context to this over the weekend

I'm about 55kg

Dan
Which is just straddling the fat line, according to BMI and definitely straggling the fat line if you squeeze my belly
@TomO'Connor You're kidding? Jeez

@Dan BMI is for insurance companies

3:29 PM
I'm stocky.

Dan
Aren't you taller than me, I'm about 6'1

But I have very broad shoulders/frame

I'm 6'2

@TomO'Connor thank you sir.

Dan
@TomO'Connor You should eat more

3:29 PM
@TomO'Connor you have a foot on me.

I'm 5'6 @ 120kg :(

@Dan I eat shitloads.

80kg @ 5'2

@Jacob Hmm?

Dan
@TomO'Connor Isn't that like, genuinely and clinically underweight?

3:30 PM
@TheCleaner Technically, we're not supposed to migrate to beta sites. Except I rarely give a fuck.
@Dan Totes.

Dan
@TomO'Connor Well, carry on then!

@NathanC Step 3: PROFIT???

I used to work with a guy that would eat two cheesesteaks and a cheeseburger every lunch and he was hovering around 100lb

@MDMarra dude. keto.

@Dan via staging.

@cole Isn't your liver already fucked up enough?

@MDMarra I don't think that had anything to do w/ keto

Dan
3:35 PM
@TomO'Connor I literally refuse to believe you can roll out to production several times a day without shit breaking

I'm not going to act like I'm some fatty victim though. I don't work out ever anymore

Probably do paleo this time around though.

@Dan Yup.

Dan
@Jacob I have to poop before else I get paranoid I'm going to get stuck half way round

I was looking at adding OnStar to my car since it has the button...unfortunately it's a 2003
so...I have to get an upgrade which will cost more -_-

3:40 PM
@TomO'Connor Someone cooked chinese with a hint of shit for breakfast this morning. Circulated through the entire office. I feel your pain.

@NathanC Is that the thing in Die Hard 4? with the fake heart attack and the remote start?

@TomO'Connor Uh...maybe?

@mossy I've got chinese for dinner. Thanks for the mental image.

Me: "so you called othervendor for support and they said to call us, did they say what was wrong?"
Customer: "something about a file."

Dan
@NathanC Have you considered using a key?

3:41 PM
@NathanC I'd love to reverse engineer the remotestart protocol.

@Dan Obviously I have a key (and a remote unlock) :P

"Start from my iPhone?! How could I lose!?"

Dan
@NathanC Job jobbed!

but I can save on insurance if I have it...maybe more than what the sub will cost

Dan
@TomO'Connor Wait til the first time you leave it in gear :D

3:42 PM
@TomO'Connor they have that

> Hi Tanner, I was able to log on from my home laptop but nothing else happened.

Wait did I miss something

I feel your pain

@MDMarra Is there a way to install and update Windows 2008 in one shot?

@TomO'Connor yeah, that's onstar.

Dan
3:42 PM
(in fact I take that back - I think all manual cars should be parked in gear anyway)

@Dan An automatic won't start unless it's in Park

Dan
@NathanC Yeah, but automatics (DSG excluded) are the work of the devil

@NathanC Or Neutral.

Need a remote start for my car

@Dan I fucking love my DSG

Dan
3:43 PM
@TomO'Connor Often just park

@TheCleaner FYI, we frown on people mentioning the NE sites on SF.

@cole It's amazing during cold snaps like this

Mine will start in N, if you put your foot on the brake.
I suspect it might start in D, if you do the same.

@ewwhite Have the image you're using be patched already?

Dan
@TomO'Connor I loved mine, but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Gears are fun and DSG just encourages you to drive like a lunatic (Well, it does with a near 200bhp car)

3:43 PM
@ewwhite you can slipstream updates into an image

Things I'll try later.

something like this: 2kr2.rt7lite.com

@MDMarra I'm creating the damn template.

There's something decidedly sexy about shifting into S, and flooring it, I love how quickly the RPM needle drops as it shifts up, like.. instantly.

Turns out I actually have the OnStar mirror, so I might be in luck...

3:44 PM
@ewwhite So install the patches, then convert to template.

double clutch DSG, just fucking wicked engineering.

Dan
@TomO'Connor What car do you have, by the way?

@ChrisS turn that frown upside down! (I remember my meta question still on this topic, your answer, and my agreement on why it even exists then)

@Dan Polo

Dan
I used to love resuming a 90mph cruise control after going through 40mph roadworks

3:45 PM
@NathanC friend of mine works at an audio place that does remote starts right around the corner. Def. will be going there.

Dan
@TomO'Connor No offence, but......you paid for DSG in a Polo?

@TomO'Connor My car won't start in D...I tried it once when it stalled at a stop light >.>

Dan
@NathanC You stalled a goddamn automatic?

Cars tend to not like going when you have your wheels cut all the way on a hill

@Dan Not as such.

3:45 PM
3 mins ago, by ewwhite
@MDMarra Is there a way to install and update Windows 2008 in one shot?

So it was just like "nope! spudder"

I was trying to squeeze them out of a really good deal..

I drive an automatic because initially I had a long commute w/ a lot of traffic.

@ewwhite I answered that
Patch your install image

Dan
@cole That's what motorbikes are fun - winning all round

3:46 PM
@Dan And it was the one on the lot, that day :)

@TheCleaner It's hard to be positive when they keep carving chunks off SF in the name of.... well... no reason other than "just because"

Dan
Oh wait, you guys can't filter either can you? HOW DO YOU PEOPLE LIVE?

@Dan Safely.

Dan
@TomO'Connor Ahhh - fair play then! My biggest issue with DSG is I'd never get a second hand car with it
@TomO'Connor You say safe, I say dull as fuck ;)

@ChrisS wait until this spring when they create devops.stackexchange.com

3:47 PM
@MDMarra In Linux... I say, "update everything" after the installation, and it brings the system up-to-date. Doing this on Windows, it seems to pull a bunch of updates, then I reboot and check, and there seem to be more updates. Is there a deterministic way to retrieve all OS updates in one shot?

Dan
@ewwhite Nope - welcome to Windows! Enjoty
It's because you're installing components that then require updates, such as .NET. Windows Update simply isn't that smart

@Dan 200? that's nothing :P

@Dan really? So, is there a good strategy to this, or do you just plan on 4-6 reboots?

@ewwhite Some updates have pre-reqs on other updates

@ewwhite no...Windows updates have prereqs, so some won't even be available until another update is already there. And some supercede others in the process....lol

Dan
3:48 PM
@ewwhite The latter

@ewwhite that's why you periodically patch your install image. so that you don't need to reboot a new server 50 times

Dan
@Jacob Haha, it's nearly double what I have now!

I was prompted to install IE9, IE11 and IE10 out of order.
@MDMarra New VMware install at new produce client.

Dan
@Jacob It wasn't even 200, it was 170 I think. Ah well, I have a bike now for going silly fast

I think they're going to be creating a large number of Windows systems.
okay, like 6....

3:49 PM
@ewwhite You'd think by now you'd have a master image somewhere that you can copy from client to client

@Dan I'd be dead if I rode a bike

@Dan Because?

Dan
@TomO'Connor No faith in the previous owners maintenance and they come with expensive bills. No way I have the skills or equipment to touch a DSG box
@Jacob I never got that - you surely have the basic human instinct of survival, no?

@MDMarra 1-megabit internet connection... I did a wget of the .ISO from my servers in a screen session because the download took 13 hours.

@MDMarra But then billing time goes down... :)

3:51 PM
DSG?

@Dan Fair enough. I think it'd be ok if it was Approved Used.

@Dan I couldn't physically hang on to it or more likely control it

Dan
@TomO'Connor I saw some of the Audi bills for routine servicing and no thanks.

@JourneymanGeek Porsche call it Tiptronic, BMW call it something else.. DSG is VW's name for a double-clutch semiautomatic gearbox

3:51 PM
So can I trust this?

@ewwhite It's hard to do a one-shot install of updates because some updates depend on other updates being installed

@Dan I've got 3 years fixed price servicing, and after 3 years I'm going to give it back

Dan
@TomO'Connor That's not true

and say "gimme something bigger"
@Dan Isn't it?

3:52 PM
@TomO'Connor Porsche now calls it DoppelKupplung( spelling not included) roughly double clutch here in the us to sound cool

@TheCleaner Is there another proposal that needs a smackdown?

I went to get coffee and came back... and Windows was like, "Sike!! I have MOAR updates!!!"

@Jacob Used to be tiptronic.

@ewwhite WSUS Offline?

Dan
@TomO'Connor Tiptronic is really any auto system that allows you select gears - DSG is specifically dual clutch which is a whole different world to an old fashioned slushbox

3:52 PM
A direct-shift gearbox (), commonly abbreviated to DSG, is an electronically controlled dual-clutch and with full automatic, or semi-manual control. The first actual dual-clutch transmissions derived from Porsche in-house development for 962 racing cars in the 1980s. In simple terms, a DSG is two separate manual gearboxes (and clutches), contained within one housing, and working as one unit. It was designed by BorgWarner, and was initially licensed to the Volkswagen Group, with support by IAV GmbH. By using two independent clutches, a DSG can achieve faster shift times, and eliminate...

@Dan I send bills to @MDMarra since he has SO MANY DOLLARZ

Dan
@Jacob I'm sure you'd be fine :)

@Jacob I'm no @ewwhite though. I don't have a gyro spit in my kitchen, for example.

> This means that the DSG takes only about 8 milliseconds to upshift.
That's crazy.

@MDMarra Explain the above.

3:54 PM
better?

Is there anything else I should do before templatizing my special master golden Windows 2008 R2 image?

@ewwhite sysprep?

Dan
@TomO'Connor Genius engineering - did yours have to "learn"?

@ewwhite You're going to check the box for "customize" right?

@NathanC VMware will trigger that on its own now.

3:55 PM
and "Generate new SID"

Oooh

Dan
Have you ever confused it, too? I made mine go VERY peculiar at a roundabout, once

@ChrisS Just a premonition. With all of the devops style questions taking hold lately. The lines are getting blurred more and more.

@Dan Yeah. The thing is, dad and I have effectively the same car. Mine's 12 months younger, but still

@TheCleaner interesting

3:55 PM
he drives veeery differently to me
so mine is all young and sporty, and his drives like an old fart. Unless I drop straight into S, and it's a bit better :P
@Dan I wouldn't say I've confused it.

Dan
Wait, you mean you sometimes take it out of sport?

@Dan rarely ;)

I've got a DSG too - though I drive like the oldest fart ever

It's just fucking fun in Sport.

Dan
On a more serious note, does yours have a snow mode? My Audi didn't and it was fucking impossible

3:56 PM
@Dan No, it doesn't.
not that I've found, anyway.

Totally just blanked on what I was doing.

Dan
@TomO'Connor Let me know how it is - that was my only MAJOR issue. The wheels didn't help at all, but as soon as you hti the turbo you were screwed

@MDMarra anything else?
load java and flash?
;)

Dan
@Chopper3 I find that hard to believe!

@ewwhite Not unless they all need the same piece of software, like an AV

3:58 PM
@MDMarra Let me review.

I typically install, patch, convert to template

@ewwhite what about runtimes like .net 4.5 and Visual Studio C++ 2012?

@Dan Oh I've had my 'fast years' - had a string of silly cars, totally grown out of it now - swapped my X90 late last year for a TDI DSG Golf ffs!

Dan
@MDMarra That's how I do it

@Dan Mine's NA.

3:58 PM
Client says:
I need right away
1 server for Tableau
1 server for Sage Asset Management

Both servers are low capacity they just need to be separate for individual applications, don’t forget the Roadnet servers

Dan
@TomO'Connor Probably thinner tyres as well, so probably far more capable. No lie - best vehicle in the snow i had was the campervan. Big dirty commercial tyres on it and it was unstoppable :D
@Chopper3 :D
