How long does it take for Smokey to actually run on a site max? Is there a max time it will sit on a single post before responding?
I had a post from that user on the site for 10 minutes before it was mod r/a deleted, is why I'm asking. :)

@Catija I don't think there's a timeout. A site has to fill the queue before sending the request.
That might be a good improvement - do the math, send the oldest queue every x seconds. We tend to have ~9k requests remaining every day, might as well use them.

@Undo ... so... you're trying to get autoflagging up higher to reduce the amount of time something is on the site... but not considering how much time the post sits on the site before Smokey looks at it?
Ten minutes seems like a lot, considering that once Smokey reports something... it's gone in under 3 or so...

It's optimized for most cases. IPS probably isn't one of those cases yet
(for low volume, high spam sites, we often just set queue size to 1)
There's also some logic around what time of day it is. Most crap comes in between certain hours; we sacrifice some response time the rest of the day for faster response during spammy hour.

But ... say A&C gets one spam post in... a week... and the queue is set for 2... that means the post would sit there for a week or more ...

Well, you probably get more than one post per week. That's what matters.

It seems like it might be a good idea to have a timeout at some point (e.g. 125% of average for hitting a full queue based on site/time of day). Even better would be to ask SE for enough quota such that all sites could be at 1 (or a timeout of a minute, or less)

1:28 AM
Also, I bet it was an answer @Catija? We're able to scan question titles and a few characters in actually-real-time. Answers are harder.

Yeah, it was an answer.

yeah, makes it hard. I bet we can just set A&C to immediate fetch.

Alternately, we could use the quota that's available from having multiple instances (effectively multiple people). Or allow multiple people to contribute some of their generic quota. There are lots of ways to get more requests/day.

There was a big analysis of site queue sizing a while back, some sites probably grew/changed/whatever since then

It doesn't need to be immediate... I'm fine with something longer than that... but I have no clue how long it would have taken if a mod hadn't flagged it. Heck, I set up the alert for it and know the username and I saw the answer when it was posted and didn't realize that I should actually look at it and kill it.

1:33 AM
It's also possible that we just didn't catch it, but 0.7 q/day makes me suspect queue sizing instead.

That's why I tested the username when I first popped in...

Ooooo... I get 3 choices spread over two people. :-) I guess that means I can vote for someone twice, or have a write-in vote :-)

I wonder why I haven't gotten my Caucus badge... :?

@Catija \o/

@WELZ Good question. I got mine withing a couple of minutes of visiting the election page.

@Makyen I already have one (from last election) and I don't really care, it's just strange that I didn't get it. Though the other candidate also didn't get it, so it may have to do with that.

2:03 AM
Sounds like you don't get it when you're a candidate, which is somewhat reasonable.

Oh, I did get it, I just got it at the beginning of the election (2 weeks ago) and so did everyone else LOL
That makes sense.

If the election is in progress and your current rep is below election criteria, can we still get that "caucus" badge? Of course you can't vote to get "constituent" one...

Pretty sure the badge requires having sufficient rep to vote

With 'Impact: 0 people reached'

@Undo Sounds hard to get rep from suggested edits in certain sites... the most haunting factor is getting DV-ed.

@TetsuyaYamamoto We do have some overly demanding users when it comes to edits... but if it does get rejected, you can bring it up with a mod and they can decide to retroactively accept it (which expunges the rejection and gives you the +2)

2:15 AM

That sounds wrong

It might stop right there
yeah, that's fatal
smoke_detectors table still very much exists, though

Huh. MySQL isn't really my brand of wizardry, but maybe can we try running dump.sh line by line to see where it fails?

Running it without dropping the dump_metasmoke table

Or that. But dump_metasmoke is a wholesale copy of metasmoke...

Perhaps
Apparently it doesn't have smoke_detectors

2:26 AM
Whut
Because there's a problem in mysqldump? That "couldn't execute" error?

It has the rest of the p_ views, then stops
So yeah, I bet it's the couldn't execute one.
That must be fatal too

Could it be an issue with privs?

it's root already :P

So no
Go into the prod DB and run SHOW FIELDS FROM p_review_results?

Opening p_review_results in prod MS DB in Sequel Pro gives the same error
oh, I bet Blazer doesn't know how it works, thus the view is half-defined

2:30 AM
Yes?
Since it's a view, can we just drop it and manually regen it?

Would like to know why it did that first

How were the views created? You can't make them in a migration, can you?

create_views.rb in db/scripts, possibly?
Interesting that there's a password sitting in there
Probobly useless, but weird.

It's an internal password, not useful from outside the server
not really great, but not a hole
Yeah, looks like one just needs to rerun that migration

2:35 AM
So... working theory is that it just goofed up the first time?

It looks like github.com/Charcoal-SE/metasmoke/blob/master/db/migrate/… needs to be rerun on every table creation

... why?

That script (re)creates those views, seems like
Gonna try it from the console

But the views aren't destroyed when a new table is created

The view for the new table (p_review_results) isn't created, though.
Not destroyed, lack of being created.

2:38 AM
Ohhhh, because we want the new tables to have views.

aye

But why was mysqldump trying to execute "SHOW FIELDS FROM p_review_results" in the first place, if it didn't exist...

Ran bundle exec rails runner db/scripts/create_views.rb -e production, rerunning dump
@thesecretmaster It's like the view exists, but never got initialized?
Maybe MySQL creates a placeholder when Blazer tries to access the view

Imma call this "MySQL magic" and hope it's fixed.

2:42 AM
Oh good.

Yep

May also be ones that add columns, actually
I wonder if it's possible to add a post-migration hook

Feb 22 at 20:46, by ArtOfCode
Okay, so core is now automatically granted at 60 feedbacks over 30 days, and removed if that's not met. Happens at 0200UTC.
Huh.
I guess I'll be spending a bit more time with feedback again.
Even if I'm not able to maintain my instance of the bot (especially with this new Perspective stuff).

There was a discussion about that on GitHub, and here. As I understand it, core was changed back to being non-automatic (i.e. not requiring any set automatically evaluated criteria).
What I understood as the direction, but I'm unsure it was actually implemented, was that the extra autoflagging which "core" had as one of the things it granted would be split off into a different role, which would be automatically added/removed. However, the other things which core did would remain as "core", and "core" would be granted at the discretion of admins.

The "core" GitHub discussion was in this issue.

The automatic system shouldn't even exist any more. I pinned the core role for you, though
(talking about someone else)

oh, okay! Is there any requirement for the core roles or is it just admins discretion?

4:17 AM
As I understand it, it's at admin's discretion. It appears the wiki hasn't been updated. However, "core" mostly grants some additional features on metasmoke, but does not affect autoflagging (or at least that's what was stated would be the case in the GitHub issue).

oh, okay, thanks! I guess I'll just ask an admin then.
