@ManishEarth Almost done!
2
Linky?
Oh, local server. Nvm.
I'm uploading it now :)
@Undo Do you use GTalk?
@ManishEarth Nope.
7:01 PM
You think you could make your modifications with it residing on my server, PHP and all? It would greatly simplify a few things.
I know you're king of userscripts :)
@Undo As in? jQuery stuff---probably.
Ok, yeah.
PHP--nope :P
:P
Let me try a few things.
@Undo You're probably right about loading the context comments realtime. We could jquery a POST request that does the requisite SQL query
7:03 PM
or even just use the SE api, was what I was thinking.
Or that. Yes. That.
Will still require server side PHP-fu because of #$%& CORS.
I'll get you access to the code. Don't worry about that :)
hah
You could GitHub it or something. If you need I can make 5 private repos (but then I have to host it), because of student magic.
Nah - I'm thinking an SSH account on my server? Is there a way to restrict it to only one directory?
@Undo that works. Yes.
7:07 PM
k
Umm, you are root, right?
Yup.
If so, you just give me ownership of the files.
Or wait, no, easy: you recursively chmod a+rw them
That should work
darnit, how do I run a MySQL update query from PHP? I feel soo dumb right now.
@Undo there are three ways, one of which is not recommended.
Use the mysqli_* commands or the PDO commands
7:10 PM
Ok.
pdo is better
but you may not have it by default
pdo is also hard.
there, made it update without a page reload.
AJAX is soooo fun!
AJAX woooooo
7:13 PM
Now, how should we do authentication? Plain old login screen?
@Undo sure.
Also, want to move this to a different room?
Sure. Lemme make it.
wait, I can migrate messages and make simultaneously
Ok.
46 messages moved from The h Bar
7:15 PM
That's better!
Now, to scp the stuff up to my little molucule in the cloud.
room parent site changed to chemistry.stackexchange.com
Chem?
Less clutter. I always make my rooms on Chem because chem chat isn't used anyway
otherwise this room shows up in the sidebar of phys
Oh. yeah, that's better
What should the URL be? erwaysoftware.com/....
/phys?
sure
You may wanna turn of directory listing in Apache. Not a big hole, but can be used to find other vulns
> MySQL Error: Access denied for user 'physics'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
7:19 PM
You're already poking at my site, aren't you?
:)
yup, mysql not set up yet.
boooooooootstraaaaaaaaap
:D
Thats a good thing, right?
nooo you index.phpd it now i can't poke around
7:20 PM
lol
Exporting local phys table
And I shall connect to my server.
Add a comments db
Import the export.
Export. ALL THE THINGS.
Dangit, someone's watching a streaming video on my connection :(
Woo! Everything made it across.
Opening Le 1Password.
@Undo you can kill that you know. Wireshark 'em and kill their connectionz
7:24 PM
Really?
Well, depending on where you are, that can be illegal on a residential network.
But yes, theoretically, you can do that
If I own the network?
If you're behind a NAT then you can do pretty much everything unless you piss the sysad off
If you're the sysad? Boom.
It's up now. Please don't do anything yet, though... not everything works 100%
7:28 PM
zaps finger with stun gun
takes stun gun back, puts in mod holster, and reprimands for theft of mod equipment
(no particular reason)
Anyway, got to study, catch ya later!
Ok! Will work when you get back - your username & password are below.
@Undo there's a reason why public key auth was invented. But nevermind, I'll change the password once it opens up
7:35 PM
Yup.
ssh @which server?
Not yet :)
It'll be erwaysoftware.com once I get you a pass made.
ping me, I'm still leaving chat open so the bong will catch my attention
7:36 PM
k

1 hour later…
8:38 PM
@ManishEarth Ok, the site should be up and running, you should be able to login with ManishEarth as a username, the same password as above. I'm working on the change password feature.
@Undo You can just email me a pass
Also, I'm winning:
@ManishEarth Email?
gotit
Logged in, but it takes forever to load
8:41 PM
Your password updated.
And yes, I'm working on the load times.
aight
@Undo Hmm, it hasn't loaded yet. Is it loading properly for you?
@ManishEarth Yes.
A little sluggish, but barely noticeable.
Can you get to just plain erwaysoftware.com?
Are you using your new password?
it loaded.
8:46 PM
Woohoo!
@Undo So, what happens if I click "valid"?
@ManishEarth The 'flag' goes away, it gets marked helpful by my system, and your name gets attached to it.
But it stays in my system.
I'm planning to analyze the results of my little experiment, play with the algo a bit.
(which right now is shortest comments first)
@Undo ah. So I have to delete it on Phys.SE myself. I can do that
Ya.
I'll try to come up with some jquery for this later
8:48 PM
Sounds good.
And if your mod buddies want in, I can certainly give them accounts :)
hah
probably not. Though comment clearing is something DZ likes to do, he's busy these days
Well, send him here if he wants in.
I hope it does some good!
/me out.
/me is out too
9:11 PM
Leaving API link here so that I can find it later: api.stackexchange.com/docs/…
9:31 PM
working on implementing context-droppy-downy.
wow, i'm going to have to make a php backend to circumvent CORS, methinks :(
/me hates CORS.
@Undo does the SE API support JSONP?
not sure.
@Undo Also, you may want to batch requests. Make the expandy thingy load comments for like the next 10 items. They stay collapsed but loaded. That way the API limit isn't reached
> All API responses are JSON, we do support JSONP with the callback query parameter. Every response in the API is returned in a common "wrapper" object, for easier and more consistent parsing.
^ Boom.
ah, PHP backend it is
24 messages moved to Trashcan
9:50 PM
aarg, since when does cmd-w close the whole chrome window instead of just one tab?
pouts
third time that got me today.
whoa, @ManishEarth, does the /comments/id/delete method in the API work for mods?
@Undo probably, the POST endpoint is the same
evil laugh
But best not to use it. Either way, I'm not OAuthing with the app :P
Oh. yeah.
10:15 PM
(currently working on a PHP issue in the PHP chatroom)
