haha, why?

Dan
@JennyD I think they're doing it wrong

@Cole thanks, I was taking a swig of water when I read that.

@TomO'Connor is the only man I'd go gay for.

@Dan Exactly

Dan
@Cole I'd go gay for anyone with the right cash

1:00 PM
@Cole I think penises are, on the whole, far better.
s/whole/hole/ ?

@TomO'Connor yeah vajay-jay's are a black hole. You're not too sure what's going to happen if you go in or what's going to come out.

@Cole I was just reading that convo about genitals and I had to fetch a stepladder to get one of my eyebrows back down

Anything that can push a human out of it, is disturbing.

@Cole I don't trust anything that bleeds every month.

How do you think you got here?

1:02 PM
@JennyD LOL
@MichaelHampton I was a c-section.

@TomO'Connor So women are trustworthy only if they use hormonal birth control? Interesting...

@Cole Snap.

@Cole That explains everything.

@JennyD It's the vagina I don't trust, not the owner.

@TomO'Connor and grape drank on my keyboard.

1:03 PM
@TomO'Connor Strictly speaking it'd be the womb you don't trust. It's not actually the vagina that's doing the bleeding, not usually in any case.

I've no objection to anyone's vagina, I'd just rather not stick my knob in it.

XD

@JennyD A general mistrust of wombs.

But...buttholes have poop. I think that's what freaks me out.

1:04 PM
@TomO'Connor I can get behind that. Mine's been ill-behaved for much of my adult life.

MARK DOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

@Cole Never underestimate the protective properties of the male sheath, prophylactic, or good ol' fashioned rubber johnny.

aww fuck now that's taking the piss

@TomO'Connor I mean, I've done it for other people - I'm just not a fan of things in my anus.

@Cole Nor me, particularly.

1:05 PM
JESUS CHRIST
2

@Cole lots of people aren't.

Ugh I have a 3hr meeting about a add-on to Lotus Connections.

@JennyD OTOH, I know some guys (and girls) who love it.

Someone, please just take me out back and put me out of my misery. It's not worth living in a world with Lotus anything.
@TomO'Connor so do I, my ex gf did.

A friend of mine told me a couple of days ago about an ex-boyfriend who'd pressure her for anal. "But all my previous girlfriends liked it!"
"Darling. Did you ever consider that they might have been *faking*?"
Apparently he didn't like that at all.

1:07 PM
She tried to persuade me to let her do it to me. NOPE

@TomO'Connor So do I know some. Like with all things, it's a matter of treating people how they like to be treated, not how you yourself would personally like to be treated, if you see what I mean.

I think I draw the line at scat, water sports and (extreme) pain/humiliation.

@Cole Of all the drawn lines I've seen, that's the most common.
I have a friend who's heavily into urethral play. That's weird, yo. (and a bit scary).

@Cole I don't think I know anybody into the first two. The last one, though - I've got a couple of friends who get off on that. That's something that's kind of hard for me to understand, but as long as everybody is adult and consenting it's their business.

@TomO'Connor aye. My girlfriend is super vanilla, like does't even like giving oral - I'll generally try anything once though.
@TomO'Connor I just cringed.
@JennyD oh I agree, I have friends who are really into it.

1:09 PM
@JennyD I had an ex who's into the first two.
and another ex who was into puke.

PUKE!?

yeah.
he was odd.

gag

@TomO'Connor eugh. Gross. I can not understand that.

@Cole I think that's the point.

1:10 PM
XD

I just assumed it was a Minnesota thing.
His bff was into it too.

Puke/Poop/Piss and I'd be NOPE'ing right out of there.

@tombull89 But not piss? Interesting.

@tombull89 the three P's.
Also, how did this conversation escalate to this?

@Cole innocent face

1:12 PM

@Cole You mentioned enjoying having a flaming butthole.

@TomO'Connor I prefer s/having/being/

True dat

For real.
I've experienced the shift to male privilege first hand.

I just play the game on its lowest difficulty setting: White, straight cis-male.
2

@Hennes LOL

@Hennes That made me giggle more than it should've done.

@Hennes I always figured by your username you were female.
@Hennes Also, gotta love Scalzi.

1:16 PM
I'm a white, straight, trans-male. But since I pass 110% I basically have it really easy.

Nope. Male.

@Hennes "Hennes" means "hers" in Swedish.
2

Ah.

Well, that's awkward.

That explains why some other poeple on LJ assumed I was female.

Dan
1:17 PM
In better, less sexual (kind of) news, I've just booked my tickets to the Royal International Airshow 2013. Whoops

@Hennes It's really hard to break the habit of trying to gender usernames...

My families has a lot of people 'Jan' (UK translation: John).
So my parents decided to break with that and use a completely new name
Needless to say they do not speak Swedish

@Hennes 'Jan' is also quite common in Sweden. Pretty much only for men, though.

My girlfriend is super Swedish. Well, she's born here but her grandparents were from Sweden I think?

I have been to family reunions. 8/10 males present were "Jan Passmann"
Same first and same last name
Confusing as heck

1:19 PM
@Hennes Dutch?

Jan, son of Jan, from that Jan.
Yes

@Hennes wow.

@Cole Lots of people emigrated from here to the US in the late 1800s-early 1900s

@JennyD She's very proud of being Swedish. She really wants to go visit.

1:21 PM
@Cole if the two of you come here I can guide you around Stockholm :-)

@JennyD sweet! We may be, I'm working on getting my passport.

@JennyD Lots of people immigrated to the US in in that time-frame, not just Sweden

I'm super Irish but everyone thinks I'm Italian :(

@ChrisS I know - it's just that it was a huge depopulation in some parts of the country here

Q: Installing NetXtreme II 10 Gigabit Driver on Windows 7

randomblueI have a Windows 7 Dell with a Broadcom 57810 10G Ethernet card. I have installed the Windows Server 2008 R2 associated drivers, but in the device manager the "Ethernet Controller" on the relevant PCIe slot has not installed driver. What steps can I take to troubleshoot this Ethernet card driver...

Windows 7 and 10 gbit?

1:24 PM
Why is Scandinavia well represented on the site/chat; but nowhere else in the non-English Europe?

@Hennes Why

I assume it is to 'get faster internet' and 'use google faster' :-)

@Hennes 'get moar pr0n faster'

7Zip

Dan
@TomO'Connor Went to the press day years ago (Or was that the other one, i forget)
Air shows are ace, though, good lineup

@ChrisS I prefer 7Zip but most people know WinRAR

Hrm.. must be different circles.
I don't know hardly anyone who knows of WinRAR.

@ChrisS I work with dumb people.

Used to, back in the day, when rar was notably better compression than zip, and all the BBSs used it for "file sharing"

1:37 PM
Task for today: Get text-to-speech alerts to work in Solarwinds Server and App. Monitor.

I know of winrar, but I prefer not to use rar.

I'm disappointed 7Zip doesn't have PAQ8/9 or similar compression yet.

@Cole I'm sorry, Cole, that server is down. Permernantly. I'm sorry, Cole, I can't let you restart it. It has been termernated. Just like you. Shortly. Ha.

@tombull89 I wish I could make it sound like GLaDOS

How cute is that?
Teeny blade chassis.

@TomO'Connor Basically an answer for NetApp stuff isn't it?

@Travis daw how cute.
We still do only 1-2U rack severs here.

1:51 PM
:(
Not that I've done anything serious on VMS for a long time but ...

@Cole Us too. I like the idea of blades...just not comfortable with single point of failure

@Iain Still, a sad day...

@Travis I think they're great if you have a multiple chassis.
and good support.

Dan
@Travis The only SPOF is the midplane in a HP chassis, and that's unlikely

tbh, I've only once see the backplane go on a IBM BladeCenter

1:53 PM
@Ward indeed.

I guess in a SMB would a blade be cost effective though

this was a very old chassis though, after a power outage.
@Travis probably cheaper to by rack servers in your case.

Someone should take Robert Palmer (the executive, not the dead rock star) out and shoot him, too.

@Travis How many servers do you have?
@Iain Isn't VMS still in production for large corps?

@Cole 3 physical, 5 VM
@Cole 2 of the physical are ESXi

1:56 PM
@Travis yeah blades would be, IMO, overkill.

@TomO'Connor Very interesting

yep

Only thing that sucks about the integrated Hyper-V on Windows 8 is there's not coherence mode.

great...our financial software just crapped out on us

@Travis It might. It might not work. I would have checked before spending lots of money on a 10gbit card. (and if not windows, I would have asked on some mailinglists)

1:57 PM
@Travis What is it?

@Hennes Right. Plus...why would you want a 10g card any way?
@Cole Some hole in the wall software written by a single guy using FoxPro

cringe FoxPro

I asked the programmer when he was going to update the language (since MS extended support has run out) and he said he won't until a better one comes along

I can only think of 3 reasons:
1) Someone had a great sales droid.
2) Testing a few things before installing a proper OS
3) Someone has way too much money and wanted the fastest available hardware. Without doing any sanity check before buying.

@Cole He also told me that they have a SQL version that would be better than the version we're on (using dbase or something).... Still doesn't fix the antiquated code issue

1:59 PM
and creating a Virtual Switch disruptes my laptop
@Travis wow, gotta love SMB.

yep
They won't let me upgrade yet...to the tune of $400k for an ERP

@Cole You'd have to publish the program as a RemoteApp on the VM, then you can.

@ChrisS ah didn't even think of that, thanks.

@Cole the bank where I work still has VMS. They've been saying for years that it should be phased out "within the next couple of years". Still hasn't happened.

Has anyone ever worked for a good IT manager?

2:16 PM
@ewwhite I concur - they never fail - I've had some DOA traces but never in-life

@ChrisS IMO, I don't see a need for it - or are my NT/2000 boxes going to have issues?

@Chopper3 LOL

An in-chassis fire eh?

@ewwhite Cool

2:17 PM
@Cole My last manager was pretty good. He was absentee much of the time, which worked out well for the most part. But when I needed him for meetings, budgeting, and other planning, he tended to be "out".
@NathanC That happened to someone here, MikeyB maybe...

Hm we're getting a VNXe, for what - I do not know.
They're having a consultant install it with 2 dell servers.

@NathanC yeah, FIRE!

@ewwhite Oh, they do. They certainly do. But across tens of thousands of IBM blades, never ever had a whole chassis failure. Also, the midplanes aren't an SPOF, there's two sides to it.

Ooh.

@MikeyB The servers may, but the chassis doesn't

2:19 PM
Someone must've muttered "that server should burn in a fire" ...and so it did.

@NathanC Do pay close attention to the filenames of the images attached to the case.

@Cole My previous boss here was good.

Man I wish I could get a good boss.

HCF ...hmm, "huge chassis fire"?

Dan
Dealing with a 3rd party support call and they've completely ignored my original call and screenshots

@NathanC that was my thought.

Dan
They've just asked me if the file association is correct because "files on a computer are designed to launch with a certain application. If this is wrong, then you may not be able to load them"

Uh, well, it's your fucking software giving the issue so I think we can rule that out can't we.

Odd. The Solaris admin doesn't know Windows - but wants to go to Windows 8. wat

Halt and Catch Fire, known by the mnemonic HCF, refers to several computer machine code instructions that cause the CPU to cease meaningful operation. The expression "catch fire" is intended as a joke; the CPU does not catch fire. It is also occasionally referred to as "SDI" for "Self Destruct Immediate". In early CPUs The HCF instruction was originally a fictitious instruction, said to be under development at IBM for use in their System/360 computers, along with many other amusing instructions like "Electrocute Computer Operator". One apocryphal story about the HCF instruction goes bac...

lp0 on fire (aka Printer on Fire) is a semi-obsolete error message generated on some Unix and Unix-like computer operating systems in response to certain types of printer errors. lp0 is the Unix device handle for the first line printer, but the error can be displayed for any printer attached to a Unix/Linux system. The message is intended to be humorous and does not reliably indicate whether the printer in question is actually aflame. History The "on fire" message probably originated in the late 1950s, when high speed computerized printing was still a somewhat experimental field. The ...

@tombull89 holms has proven himself to me to be a bit of a jerk.

@Cole I love their "fix it" mentality for this financial package. The "activity" log database was what got corrupted. What do they do? Copy a fresh copy of one over, losing all logging of transactions we had so we can't determine what went wrong...

/headdesk
I feel for you @Travis

It's like clearing system logs on a servers because they're are too many errors...

You only need to do that right before an audit starts. ;-)

2:36 PM
@Travis That's what that guy from India claiming I had thousands of viruses did. They were all gone and I only paid $899! /sarcasm

@NathanC You weren't around for my India virus story were you :) I made him stand up and proclaim to the call center he was a dumbass

Dan
@Travis Seems fair

@Dan @Hennes Fortunately for us the software isn't stable enough and we have to do this on a near monthly basis. We're idiot...I mean audit proof

(start indian voice) You, sir, have a virus. I can help you by turning your computer off and then back on again. Only 9.55 sir! (end indian voice)

@NathanC it was the unit's ILO front display cable... broken pin == electrical short.
fire...

@Hennes lol...he told me my CLSID is what gave away my computer. I asked him what it was and he read off some CLSID and I told him nope, that's not my computer!

Charred cable...

@Travis Nope, don't think I was around for that one.
@ewwhite Ah, that explains it. Bet it smelt a little like charring plastic. :P

It did... and I couldn't figure it our for hours.

@NathanC He told me he was from the Microsoft Support Center or something. Asked him for his badge number.. Then he changed his story. I asked him how much calls were from India to the US. Asked him if he liked cows. If he had ever been to Bangkok. Kept him on the phone for 30 minutes then asked him if it sounded like a phone hanging up. He only made $25k USD a year doing that job
@NathanC Told him he could make twice that if he comes to the US. Would he come to the US and have dinner with me? He said he would

@NathanC Looks like a clear case of posting an attempted solution to a problem rather than the problem itself.

@Dan Beats me

@Dan I don't know, where's USD? rimshot

@MikeyB One handed typing :(

@Dan $42k

Dan
2:41 PM
@ewwhite Really? Wow

shiiiit, I made that last month.

@ewwhite That sounds high.

@ewwhite wow.

@Dan Maybe the $25k was in rupees which is only $4k USD :)

yeah I'm pretty sure it's like ~$30K

2:42 PM
@ewwhite Porn is a billion $ industry

Dan
It's about 22k in the UK, which is 34000 USD

Median Household Income: $52,762 USD in 2011
Per Captita Income: $27,915 (same year)

2:44 PM
@Travis That's funny. I've never had the fun of someone calling me like that. Then again, my number isn't published anywhere.

@Travis Hennes says he's not a chick

@NathanC They actually called my G/F. They go...you have a virus. She said...really? Hold on. She handed the phone to me

@Travis lol he is not. His name just means "hers" in Swedish

Lets test if Travis is male or female.
Travis: what is a mooncup ?

@JennyD @Cole :)

2:45 PM
@Travis and to be fair I'm more approaching "old hen" than "chick" :-)

@Cole Enable/Install the integration stuff - should run fine

@Hennes I dunno. Is that a US thing? If not then I'd not know.
@JennyD I'd still hit on ya ;)

@Travis aww, thanks :-)

@Hennes EWW! Oh holy mother of hell and heaven why the ef did I google that@!

I did not ask you to google that.

2:46 PM
What is a mooncup?

@MichaelHampton it's a plastic cup that is used instead of a tampon.

A small rubber cup to catch blood.

@JennyD I thought so

@Travis And you were probably like "and so the fun begins!"

Both my mum and nan have got the "you have a virus" call. My nan said "no, we don't have a computer" and puts the phone down. My mum realises it's a scam and tries to wind the guy up.

2:47 PM
US Citizens take an *average* of 10 vacation days (2012)
Europe varies a fair amount by country, but I'll put an off-hand range at 35-49 from the numbers I'm looking at. That's 10-15% less days worked, so it'd make sense that income would be that much lower.

@JennyD Oh. And I thought it was going to be something ... @travis

@ChrisS trying to figure out how to do that now :P

Sometimes it is quite educative to be mistaken for a female. Otherwise many people assume "oh, males probably run away when we bring such a topic up."

@NathanC I had more fun with the crank caller that kept calling her phone and asking for someone. They did it like 3 times so she gave me the phone and said you answer it. So I did. Told them to stop calling. They called back 5 minutes later

My task is to figure out why our camera system's machine keeps locking up. Oh, because it's running Windows.

2:48 PM
@Hennes A lot of males seem to think it's an important part of manhood to be (or pretend to be) freaked out by things like that

@NathanC I pretended to be gay and asked if they were responding to my craigslist add for sexy rednecks in the XYZ area (I knew the phone number prefix). They haven't called back
3

Problems solved!
@Travis bwahaha

@JennyD Their problem.

I want a call. Then I'll fire up my XP VM with 800Mhz CPU and 256MB RAM.

@Hennes @JennyD that's why a lot of women tend to like me because I don't get grossed out by that stuff...since well in my previous life I dealt with it.
@tombull89 hahaha

2:49 PM
@NathanC I talked to about 3 different people on that phone. Each hillbilly kept passing it off to the next to get "hit on" by the gay guy. Keep in mind the entire time I'm talking to them I was feeling the throbbing jolts from the impact gun as I put my wheels on my race car

haha
@JennyD I've gotten used to "discussions" because a majority of my friends are female. Well not discussions per-say, just random comments.

I had some indian guy call me at work about something. Can't remember if it was a virus thing or what. I was yelling random things while he was on speakphone. He was like "Sir?" I would yell, "hide the damn body before someone finds it! "Sir?" "Hold on a minute I'm hiding a dead body!" "Uhh...thank you Sir but..." You hold on a damn minute, you're a witness to this! You don't hang up on me!"
@NathanC So you're gay then? Most men that have the majority of friends as females are gay...cause they aren't threatened you know :)

@Travis LOL
@Travis 98% of my friends are female.
I'm very not gay.

@Travis No

@Cole lol

2:53 PM
Boobs 4 lyfe

@Travis All my friends are women... Why would I want to hang out with a bunch of sausages?
2

^ werd

^ exactly :p

Have ya'll tried the sausage? Then you don't know if it's good or not ;)

That's how I tend to meet other women. Because they're like "Oh my friend Cole is super nice - you should talk to him!"

2:54 PM
lol

I've slept with most of my friends that are girls.
So, there's that.

I'm out of the dating scene. I'm in the "you're gonna do what I tell before I shoot daggers out of my eyes and kill you" scene

O_O

@Travis Oh, "married"

Almost

2:55 PM
I'm still "dating". Girlfriend and I have been together for ~3 months, talking for 6 months or so. Yeah, don't see this being "the one" for me though.

@Travis Technicalities aside, "married"

Pretty much
12 years and counting

lol

2:56 PM

I knew Jesus was a woman!

@Cole "The One" only happens in movies and kid's books. The rest of us have settled on "good enough" (which isn't nearly as bad as that wording makes it sound).

@Hennes Lurker level: Jesus

@ChrisS this is "ok for now"

Q: Ok, How do I recreate my free/busy information store in Exchange 2003?

gobabushkaOk, I finally managed to stabilize my Server 2003R2 machine and Exchange 2003.
