I'm in school & brain dead. I'd upvote an apple if it was there :P

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Relevant :P

@FlagAsSpam huh?

@AlexA. .... I like shotguns.

Where should we discuss the PC?

I caused a riot the momemt I entered!

8:00 PM
Abraham Lincoln /ˈeɪbrəhæm ˈlɪŋkən/ (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy. Born in Hodgenville, Kentucky, Lincoln grew up on the western frontier in Kentucky and Indiana. Largely self-educated, he became a lawyer in Illinois, a Whig Party leader...

The ongoing discussion about popularity contests

@FlagAsSpam i know who he is! that would be embarrassing if i didn't...i just didn't get the joke!

Q: What makes a popularity contest objective?

quartataIn light of the controversy sparked by this question, I think we need to create a general "rule of thumb" policy on how objective a popularity-contest needs to be in order to be on-topic. The main issue, as I see it, is that people are not in agreement over whether an objective specification sh...

8:01 PM
btw, i am going to work on a search engine challenge...

make a good pop corn

@trichoplax I know but there is a link to a chat where nothing happens.

@TanMath I'm interested. I took a class in information retrieval so I might actually get a chance to be smart about something for once.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ obviously!

8:02 PM
@Rainbolt here are the run down specs:

> pop corn

> Golf me a pop con!

@AlexA. 'twas on purpose sun

:O

Pop con generation code. :D

8:03 PM
@flawr that was the end of the chat

1. the input are multiple pages linked to each other...about 10 or so...

JavaScript wins.

2. write a crawler, indexer, and searcher (it that what it is called?)

That got intense fast.

8:05 PM
@flawr no curse words!

@TanMath Is that the end of the spec (or the concept anyway)?

I miss so much

3. obviously print the results...

The results of what? I've visited all of the links; now what do I print?

Mathematica always has a buittin :P

A: Draw an Image as a Voronoi Map

pawMathematica We all know Martin loves Mathematica so let me give it a try with Mathematica. My algorithm uses random points from the image edges to create an initial voronoi diagram. The diagram is then prettified by an iterative adjustment of the mesh with a simple mean filter. This gives image...

8:06 PM
Thanks for de-f*cking-leting this shit.

use the cralwer, indexer, and searcher to find the webspages with the specified search term...

@flawr Why the rage?

@FlagAsSpam WHY NOT?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Mathematica needs the built-in LoadAndRunWinningAnswerOnPPCGQuestion[QuestionID]

@flawr Hey, man, settle down. Just asking a question.

8:07 PM
If you're actually angry, it might be worth stepping away to cool down for a bit.
If you're trolling as angry, you should probably say so in case more posts get flagged.

@flawr this is the start, but it's a long chat...

@ETHproductions *CreateAIThatAnswersAllPPCGQuestionsInTheListFollowingAlongWithALongBuiltinForI‌t[ChallengeName1,...,ChallengeNameN]

so that question is pretty controversial!

To say the least

8:09 PM
@TanMath Is the point of the links to make the challenge about hubs and authorities?

i mean, it was closed, i helped reopen it, and 20 min later, closed again...
@Rainbolt i do not understand...they are just a really long string with html code...the webpages are linked together...

@ETHproductions Oh wait, then if Mathematica is the winning answer...

like in hello.html:

@TanMath I'm just wondering what the point of the links are if all I have to do is search every file for some text.

<p>hello from the other side! <a href="index.html"> blah</a></p>
@Rainbolt what?

8:12 PM
*index.html

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what happened? i wrote it correctly! ;)

@TanMath What is the point of the links? What purpose do they serve?

Can you do <a href="localhost"></a>?

lol
i will do one as a tribute to @phase who no longer comes to chat...

8:13 PM
@FlagAsSpam Sounds perfect for @phase.
Oh, ninja'd.

@PHASE COME BACK WE ARE YOUR FRIEEEEENDS

@flawr The room I created just for this and the meta post

Noooooo. She is in my head again. You guys have infected my thoughts with Adele's yelling.
Except now she is singing "Hello from the other siiiiiiide. Ay Aychref equals index blaaaaaaah."

@flawr ?

@Rainbolt and now you have infected my mind too!

8:16 PM
I have that effect on people when we first meet.
@TanMath I think you should write up your spec for the search engine. I can't really understand the point of the links in your spec but I imagine that once you write it out I will have a better understanding.

HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIIIDE!
@Rainbolt why can't google just search the html files?

Because it doesn't know they exist until Google Crawler finds them
But you are going to provide every file as input, so there's no point in crawling them

@Rainbolt I'm still LOLing at this xD

for a small purpose, I agree maybe searching the files is easier, but this is for the challenge...
however, do you want to actually use the Web? actually crawl the Web?

@Rainbolt Hello from the java side... I must have tried a thousand times... But I am still too long. :⊂

8:20 PM
i know a couple of dummy html files on the web... I will give the link to one of them and then to the crawling...

Well, you could write a controller that hosts ten "pages". I actually have a sample set of files if you like. The files are course descriptions, and the prereqs are "links" to other courses.

@Rainbolt you do? I haz them?

So stuff like Data Structures, which is a prereq for basically every single upper level CS course, becomes a very strong authority.
Yea sure. I'll put it on Google drive and make it public. One sec.

?
wus dis

What is a question mark?

8:22 PM
@quartata TanMath is making a combination challenge for both web crawling and searching. At least that's my understanding.

A question mark, '?', notes that the sentence it is attached to is an inquiry.

@quartata it is a sign of confusement...

@quartata ^^

ninja'd

@RikerW Really?

8:23 PM
hello from the unicorn side! I must have tried a thousand time...but I will never win a code golf challenge! :(

@ETHproductions Yes, really.

So this is an inquiry?

@ETHproductions Yes.

@ETHproductions well now you know what the little '?' at the end of 'Really?' means...

What do you think this is?

8:24 PM
Can I stop using question marks now?

an inquiry!

@ETHproductions Yes.

@ETHproductions no...

Thanks?
Oh no?
It's stuck?

FTR, a period designates a statement and a exclamation mark designates a exclamation.

8:25 PM
now you do not need to use question marks...ok?

@ETHproductions Try not hitting that key.

@ETHproductions Is this a problem?

Sup @ArtOfCode?

The sky?

@ArtOfCode No, it's better now

8:25 PM
This is more fun than lipogrammning. What do you think?
@ArtOfCode Correct, I think?
Not sure?

@RikerW Why not?

Depends what direction you are facing, I think?

See, now you guys are using a question mark in every message!

I can also use an exclamation mark!!!
Or three!!!

Me two!!

8:27 PM
@ETHproductions Am I?

I don't think I am, but how can one be sure?

Punctuation is fun!:;,.[]{}!@#$%^&*()_-+=\|"'~`?

I remember a class (in middle school or so) where the teacher challenged us to continue a conversation as long as we could using only questions. My trick of changing statements to questions by appending stuff like "right?" was not well-received...

@AlexA. Perhaps try keycode analysis?

8:28 PM
^?

@ArtOfCode What is keycode analysis?

^?

8:29 PM
@AlexA. Have you never tried? Take the keycode for every keystroke you make, throw it at a textfile and run some frequency script over it. If number of question marks == number of messages you've sent, you have used on average one question mark per message.

@TanMath WTF?

@TanMath Well, that certainly looks better

@ArtOfCode How do I record the keycode for every keystroke I make?

@Rainbolt yeah... this one is actually on the Web... i cannot open yours BTW...
for now I will use my link...

@AlexA. Tried userscripting it?

8:31 PM
@TanMath It's a zip file with a few hundred text files inside.

@El'endiaStarman Next time try "n'est-ce pas?"

@ArtOfCode I have not because Safari is terrible at userscripts.

@Rainbolt i can see that, but i canmot open the text files directly...

@AlexA. Is that not a reason to drop Safari and get a real browser? ;)

Try chrome maybe?

8:32 PM
maybe I need to unzip the zip file?

translate: n'est-ce pas?
(from French) is not it?

(adding question marks somewhere has now become tedious, so yeah no)

@ArtOfCode You're beginning to sound like @Doorknob. :P

@Ampora maybe come take a look at us?

meaning I need to download the zip file?

8:32 PM
@AlexA. One of my fellow mods on OS uses Safari, and I do the same to him.

Haha

@TanMath Probably

Wow, it is, surprisingly, slightly annoying to read a bunch of questions all strung together. I "hear" the inflection at the end that denotes a question. Anyone else do that?

@El'endiaStarman Yes

8:35 PM
Because you said that I am now frustrated after having read that sandbox post, but I was fine before when I was just skimming.
I think my brain sees what it wants to in order to compensate

anybody on udacity, taking course cs101?

Honestly, I've always suspected @ArtOfCode was @Doorknob.

@El'endiaStarman Yes.
@quartata I think so too, but maybe he isn't?

@quartata He's found me! Run!

@Doorknob reveal yourself...

8:36 PM
@ArtOfCode Oh no you don't!

@quartata me too...

@quartata Just try stopping me >:)

@ArtOfCode OK.

ArtOfCodeKnob... CodeKnob... CodeNewb...

I'll just ping you into coming back.
@ArtOfCode
Once every five minutes until you come back to the dark side.

Ha.

writes userscript to disable other userscripts in TNB

Let the userscript wars begin.

Can I toss in a userscript to delete oneboxes that are larger than a certain size?

@ETHproductions that's... not a thing :(

8:38 PM
@ArtOfCode Good luck. I'm behind 7 proxies sockpuppets

@ArtOfCode sadly :(

@Rainbolt ArtOfKnob

@quartata recruits local mods to delete sockpuppets because they're obviously abusing the system and should be removed
Hey @AlexA....

Try to find my sockpuppet.

@ArtOfCode We're all socks of him:

8:39 PM
@ArtOfCode Why didn't this ping me? o_O

@RikerW won't be able to, unless they're both on my sites

BTW, anybody know how to destroy boulders in nethack? Or if it is even possible.

@Rainbolt Maybe that should be my meta username...
@RikerW with a large chisel. Or explosives.

I feel like the gold standard for answering on Hardware Recommendations should be "save up some money and buy a Mac."

Okay, now I don’t want to alarm anybody in this room, but it’s just come to my attention that the person to your right is a sock of Alex. Also, the person to your left is a sock of Alex. Also the person sitting in your very seats is a sock of Alex. We’re all Alex.

Wait. If everyone is Alex, why isn't everyone posting in Julia? :P

@ArtOfCode Do you play nethack?

8:42 PM
@Rainbolt Literal LOL

I'm not prejudiced against Macs at all.
@RikerW nope

@ArtOfCode Oh no? :P

I like macs...

I... do not.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ To each their own

8:42 PM
@quartata *seat

@AlexA. I'm going to go meditate for five minutes on whether "literal LOL" means he did or not not actually laugh out loud.

@El'endiaStarman Blame Zizouz.
I literally just replaced "liar" with "sock of Alex"
Original (was Zizouz's old bio):

@Rainbolt I can't speak for the term in general, but in this case laughter escaped from my face hole.

@quartata I remember that
@AlexA. your left ear laughed? You should get that checked out.

I don't.

Wait. If everyone is a liar, how do you know that what I said above is the truth? :P

Oh, okay.
lol

@ArtOfCode My ears aren't on my face though; they're on the sides of my head.

@AlexA. Of course. Still, a laughing nostril is... no laughing matter.

@quartata Ahhh, haha.

@ArtOfCode What, you've never nose laughed?

@ETHproductions lets hope that that answer never wins a challenge
it'd break all of Mathematica

That'll teach me to push to git more often
