All done.

HAHAHA

w0w.

purge uefi but don't purge efi

you do realize they're the same

I know
just the u in it

7:01 AM
like, there's virtually no distinction between them except UEFI has CSM for legacy booting

Oh, that guy

uefi is useful in hackintoshes
@JourneymanGeek yes, that guy.

Did you ever wonder why @ƎpᴉʇʎXD is named like he is?

russia

@KazWolfe cause its annoying?

7:03 AM
Upside-down text generator?

He comes up the second someone hits the @ key

and we can @ƎpᴉʇʎXD all zee time.

@Jodamo117 taking a look...

@NathanOsman thank you very much

I had the random idea of flipping my name using the sandbox bot and I appear every time you type @
So it was sudo random i guess

7:04 AM
Sorry, I gotta go.
Can someone please help @Jodamo117 ?

@NathanOsman bai

sure, what does he need?

bye
@KazWolfe i will copy

hello and thank you for calling Ask Ubuntu General Room! Nathan Osman has left, but I've taken over your case. How may I help you today?

welcome to sudo randomness, where every time you hit @ I appear in your chat, just haunting you...

7:06 AM
ha
I would love it

@Jodamo117 See askubuntu.com/questions/61396/… - for the GTX960 you'd need driver 367 which is available from the grpahics drivers ppa.

Q: How to setup multiple ips on ubuntu 16.04 using 1 NIC

Ajaydev SinghI need help setting up multiple ips on my ubuntu 16.04.1 server I have it in a data center and they gave me 5 ips range 170-174

@Takkat that was fast. thank you

Welcome to AUGR, where your question already has been answered

@Jodamo117 n.p - there also is the beta driver 370.. but this may cause issues (i.e. black screen) if you are unlucky.

7:09 AM
@KazWolfe To talk to a costumer, please press 9 XD

@Jodamo117 also look at this just in case: askubuntu.com/questions/760934/…

@Takkat will do. ty again

annoying code is annoying
and crashy

@KazWolfe another use case for rm I guess ;P

@terdon please advise
hey @ƎpᴉʇʎXD, mechanical pencils are better
especially nice drafting pencils...

7:17 AM
>:(

;(
sits in the corner
stares at the wall

ok, going to install Ubuntu 16-04 againg and try the Nvidea packages. Wish me luck. Thanks for your help. Happy chatting.

Back now.
I see you've been helped. Awesome!

@Jodamo117 why re-install?

7:28 AM
That's why I like this room. It's like one giant family :)

hey edity want trolling ideas

its broken. had to remove it in order to even operate win 10 or anything

yeah. @NathanOsman's the daddy, @Takkat is the mommy, @ƎpᴉʇʎXD is the baby, @JourneymanGeek is the weird uncle everybody likes, and I'm the dog!

No, I'm the dog.

@Jodamo117 o.k. - was just asking because we can install graphic drives even if the GUI os broken from terminal.

7:29 AM
*grr*

clearly you're the wierd uncle.

I'm depressed now.

@KazWolfe mummy rather.

O_o
This got awkward fast.

@Takkat I cant open terminal because the graphics bug out.

7:30 AM
sniff

i can grub

@NathanOsman you started it

goes in the corner

i just overdid it like usual

7:31 AM
This is what happens when I try to do anything past midnight.

@Jodamo117 I know... that's not unusual with new graphic cards. You can still boot to a root shell to install drivers.

we should have room owners
just so we can have more abuse of power

@KazWolfe Mods are room owners.
@KazWolfe THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ALREADY?

i mean non-mod owners
@NathanOsman THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH

@KazWolfe Please don't tell me i'm the baby.

7:32 AM
I can... er... (looks both ways)... do that.
But it's getting late.

ow. that kick hurt :(

@Takkat in bios boot opts?

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD ^^

@Jodamo117 what I did however was I ran Ubuntu with the onboard graphics, then installed drivers for Nvidia, to only at the end plug in the discreed graphics card.

@KazWolfe ?

7:33 AM
@ƎpᴉʇʎXD it's an emoticon

@Takkat I wonder if you could disable the discrete card in the BIOS as an alternative to prying open the case and physically detaching it from the PCIe slot?

@Jodamo117 no, on booting Ubunutu... see askubuntu.com/questions/92556/…
@NathanOsman I could not in my case, but if that was possible it would be easiest of course.

I'm just going to exit this room for a while, ok?

I feel depressed

7:34 AM
I can't remember if I am able to do that or not. I can disable the integrated card once I add a discrete one... but I need the opposite.

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD no, you have to stay in here forever!

kicks self out

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD You should take up coding.
It will make you even more depressed but you can earn money :D
(Yes, I'm partly kidding.)

yes. it's a very productive time waste
but you should really learn the king of all languages, PHP

PHP is a total abomination. That is all.

7:36 AM
@NathanOsman how do you feel about javascript?

ok, so advanced options... got it. groovey

@Jodamo117 you can add PPAs and install, and do almost everything from a root terminal, so be careful.

7:53 AM
i'm back

hi

yes?

.......

o... kay.
have fun with that

7:58 AM
...zzzzz

well then. i'll just wait for the inevitable call in two hours that critical DB infra crashed again

oh great
here lies kickasstorrents

Hi folks. Is it allowed to post a link in here to a question of mine which hasn't got answered? The reason is that I'm starting to get desperate ;-(

I say go for it ;)

Q: vsftpd: user folder on different hard disk

DaenuThe situation: Having a secure FTP-server for backing up data. I installed vsftpd following this guide. It works as expected with TLS. vsftpd: version 3.0.2 Ubuntu version 15.10 The FTP-user named xxx has his folder on /home/xxx/files. The folder /home/xxx is owned by root. The folder /hom...

thx for having a look at it

8:15 AM
oh maybe steeldriver will come back to it... then you will be OK :) I don't know how to fix it :( but upvoted the question for good research

thx for the vote... yeah hopefull he'll be back soon ;-)

I just VTC this as too broad askubuntu.com/questions/819481/…

absolutely agree

much too broad indeed.

could I possibly get a token upvote here to close Q since OP cannot find the accept button (or someone contribute better answer) askubuntu.com/questions/819464/… ?
thanks :)

8:21 AM
Accept buttons are too hidden nowadays. They should be huge. Occupying the whole page or so...

hehe I have to agree, lately I'm having this problem a lot

Hiya

@Arronical Hi

@Zanna They really don't want to use that accept button, I like your 'here's how to answer' link!

8:30 AM
Worse if the poorest answer of all gets accepted somehow.

hi

@Arronical desperation hahaha
afternoon @Anwar :)

morning || afternoon || evening all :)

@Anwar Hey

hi Arronical! do you work in Canonical?

8:33 AM
@Anwar Gosh no. Just stuck for a username when I started. My name is Arron though, so not entirely misleading.

I was being funny :)

Wow, I just used the word gosh, definitely getting old!
@Anwar I've not had enough coffee to recognise humour yet!

I say that all the time @Arronical because in normal mode I swear horrendously, and when teaching kids and talking to their parents I have to use clean mode

I think, I should start giving lectures on accepting answers before giving them :(

"Hi, I know the answer to your question, and I will give it to you if you first read this tutorial and confirm that you know how to ACCEPT the answer that helped you the most"

8:36 AM
my kids teach me more swear words than I ever knew.

It's funny having clean mode switched on, especially when the person you're using it for starts to swear!

@Zanna yeah.. that sort of thing

yes that happens @Takkat ^_^

I usually accidentally toggle back into expletive mode within half an hour, and immediately if the student has to work on some windows machine with parental controls blocking everything
2

8:39 AM
Much like when I get mad, if I swear uncreatively, things are probably really bad ;p
2

I like the challenge of avoiding expletives sometimes, as it forces you to dig out a larger range of superlatives.
@JourneymanGeek When the swears become punctuation, it's not a good sign!

hahaha yes creative is fun. Also finding insults that are not offensive to people you aren't trying to offend. I'm fond of "scumbag"

@Arronical or you're a warrant officer ;p

I only figured out a couple of years ago that when my Dad used to say 'For crying out loud!' that it was a cover up. The 'for' sounded suspiciously like 'fuh', and with the next word starting with a c, it was fairly creative.

night
good night all*

8:48 AM
night @ƎpᴉʇʎXD

night @ƎpᴉʇʎXD

@ƎpᴉʇʎXD night

I had what I think was my first unaccept last night, but the votes are in my favour so I'll stop sobbing and console myself with that!

most correct answer should get accepted

hahahahahahaha

8:55 AM
I recently has given an answer to an old question with accepted answer.

I think the OP wanted what was closest to how they'd originally written his script, or achieving their goal with least lines possible. I tried to pass on a bit of knowledge around the subject, but I suspect hey just wanted something that would work.

hmm... that happens. just tell me what to do, no knowledge please is what some OP says
do you think this is a dupe of the linked question?

reminds me of that "every question on SO looks like this" picture
@Anwar I'm not sure, judging by what they accepted, they didn't express the question very clearly

It's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

9:13 AM
Here it is @Arronical if it's any consolation imgur.com/arneUlU
oh wow, Senior Systems Engineer got a lot of help. You REALLY deserved that accept askubuntu.com/posts/819214/revisions
I already upvoted your answer, would do again if I could

Haha, I didn't realise the good parts of the answer were edited in by someone else!

I had an issue with that guy but justice was done, sorry to see your case, you weren't so lucky
(he got an accept by editing my comment hint into his blahblah answer that totally missed the error in the script - I wrote an answer and OP changed accept, bless 'em)

@Zanna I wondered how you knew he was an SSE
Questions come and go, I'm aiming not to get too hung up on stuff like that, just be content with how I wrote the answer. Plus I had a nice comment form Serg, so not all bad!

Haha well the answer I mentioned was like "I am a Senior Systems Engineer and here are 4 different ways I know how to do what you are trying to do"
nice comments from @Serg (arguably) better than accepts :) & yeah, good not to be concerned about such fluff

9:35 AM
If in doubt puff out your chest and mention your very important sounding (possibly spurious) job-title!

zackly

Why would you want to remove <3Telegram<3 ?

user136984
How is this guy able to comment with such little rep? He had only 6 when he actually posted it last night.

Their rep randomly dropped from 72 to 11 for some reason?
pretty weird

bountied their rep

<--noob

Lies
@SmokeDetector suspicious

user136984
10:03 AM
Ah... I thought that you lost the ability to do things when your rep goes below the thresholds of the abilities?

user136984
Or do bounties exclude that?

different timings.

Is anyone from Germany in here today? I am having a strange issue on this askubuntu.com/questions/819486/… it works for me but OP cannot connect to the domain, wonderd if it was something to do with his location?

@MarkKirby that's a lot of comments on that post
Are we seriously leaving comments like that these days?

NUKE ALL ZEE COMMENTS!
I'd totally post a slightly trolly gif as an answer to that.

10:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek sure

@jokerdino Is that post at me or you still talking to Zanna?

@MarkKirby or might have been a reply to me
also, I can attest to @jokerdino not being german.

@JourneymanGeek Was confused, my post had many, many comments on it too :)

@MarkKirby first comment was before I opened the queue and 1 minute later, I was looking at Zanna's attempt to get an accept on her answer.

HOWEVER
it can be tested without being in germany
also that feels like a dumb copy paste

10:14 AM
@MarkKirby it was actually about your post. Someone is flagging all the comments as obsolete these days and it's making me read more posts than I really want to.

@JourneymanGeek How can I test access without being in the country the OP is?

@MarkKirby why exactly would that matter? Its a proper URL to a mirror

@MarkKirby Here is the official download for TeamSpeak: teamspeak.com/downloads - liekly better than a random third party page.

^ German

@jokerdino IDK why someone would flag then as obsolete, they are new and relevent.

10:17 AM
@MarkKirby Not the comments on your post. Just talking about the general situation here.

@Takkat Thanks, we will try that package download with them in a bit.

Besides, you know about the nagging community bot which flags a post if it gets 20+ comments within 3 days.

@MarkKirby just seeing this page links to dl.4players.de here. So it's probably ok for them.

@jokerdino clearly that comment had no effect

@Takkat Thanks, for checking. Seems like it must be OP error somewhere.

10:27 AM
@MarkKirby this page may be blocked for them? If I were SysAdmin of their machine I'd probably add any dl4players to the not so much wanted sites.

user136984
@A.B.: I'm not sure if I previously pinged you about this, but I tried out Kubuntu 16.04.1 and everything was incredibly buggy during the installation process, the installer even hid itself and made me believe it had finished before it had so I think it only half-installed as I restarted it at that point.

user136984
Where should I report such bugs?

10:41 AM
@Zanna let me just say I am not a fan of such comments.

In that case I will avoid making such comments

But I am just one person.

Eh, it makes me uncomfortable to do it anyway! For context, at the time there were no upvotes. It looked like the question was going to lie there looking unanswered. But still. I won't do it. Because you are one person whose opinion I respect.

Thanks for that. You also miss the fun of getting your answers accepted nearly 4-5 years later.
Serving as a reminder to show how crappy my answers were in the past.
@Zanna Look, I understand why people do it and that green checkmark is a nice validation mark too but ultimately it reflects poorly on all of us, claiming to be here to help people and focusing on getting some points instead.
Ah I don't feel nice now.

11:01 AM
hugs

:')

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted website in answer: How do you remove Chrome and references to MyWay by Melody Green on askubuntu.com

well you are being nice so I think you should feel nice
is that spam ^^

@Zanna smells like it, yes

@Zanna Supposedly but who knows. Given the blacklisted site and the avatar it is very suspicious.

11:11 AM
they basically hide download links for fake malware

I am not clever at finding spam

@Zanna better not click on their links...

the link looks legit but that username + gravatar is spammish

@Takkat the main link is harmless usually
also, they're aimed at windows users

11:13 AM
W i n d o w s ? ? ? Burn it!

11:31 AM
Fixed by reboot. askubuntu.com/questions/762421/… No repro or dupe of this askubuntu.com/questions/788182/… ?

looks like the short arms of the law has handled it ;p

heh so they have

11:50 AM
@jokerdino Thanks! will include in his pro-forma comment

Q: prevent uninstallation of any software by locking it or any other method in ubuntu and centos 7

Chiraag TomerI am trying to prevent uninstallation of any software by locking it or any other method in ubuntu and centos 7. Is it possible to do so

Can a moderator move this comment dialog to a chat: askubuntu.com/q/819366/29012
The OP is foreign and having problems with the English language.

@Zacharee1 IT BURRRRNSSSSSSSS

The solution, to me, is simple. Remove the installed packages and install the one he wants to use.

12:40 PM
:p @JourneymanGeek
@L.D.James if it helps, I'm pretty sure they're French.

You're right. I used the Google translator to translate some of his dialog.

That person may have broken paths and other underlying issues @L.D.James
seen some of their other questions

@Zanna other question
no plural
all reposts :p

@jokerdino Thanks!

@L.D.James is he able to chat?
also surprised how you figured it was me o.O
oh, that auto comment in the post.

12:52 PM
hahaha

@jokerdino you're also in the room...

Comments are not for extended discussion; this conversation has been moved to chat. — jokerdino ♦ 11 mins ago
This silly stupid comment.

@Zacharee1 not so, the question by them I answered was about not being able to call gedit

@Zanna gasp

/usr/bin was not in their path

12:53 PM
what did they do to their system?

who knows, that's why I'm cautioning @L.D.James

@Zacharee1 most often, people won't know if I am active if I stay quiet.

Unfortunately my answer was like "you can fix this immediate problem like this and by the way what happened to your system?"
and the reply was "thank you that fixed it"

@jokerdino Yes. He just typed in the chat area.

or she

12:56 PM
I prefer the singular they when in doubt ;)

I just say 'that person'. Saves me from being sued.

@Zanna You're cautioning me?

yes as there may be underlying issues on their system

Are you the author of Unfortunate Sons?

so everything might not work as you expect
me??

12:57 PM
are you? I was talking to James.

I think she means "the system might be completely mulched, so simple fixes may not work"

@Zanna Maybe there are issues. I have provided steps that will identify and resolve the issues.

@L.D.James I only skimmed through the conversation, I'm just letting you know what I know.

@L.D.James You have our support in these terrible times.

exactly what @JourneymanGeek said ^^^^
