@Zanna Most of the conversation comes from the user not understanding the provided steps. The solution in this case (to me) is simple. He had a version of java on his system that was defaulting and he couldn't change away from it. I provided steps to remove that version. He was having problems understanding that concept of removing the problem version. I have patience and don't mind explaining. I also don't mind helping to explain.
@L.D.James yeah I can see they are not getting it, just letting you know what I know from another interaction I had with them, that might affect what they are trying to do globally
@Zacharee1 You're right about the borked system. If I can assist another person with his borked system, that experience comes in handy when I have a problem that needs addressing.
@Zacharee1 In this case, the discussion is strictly on having java working. I won't allow it to change to something else. If he has a different problem I would advise him to ask a different question.
So far, everything he has type in and the responses that he has gotten from the commands has been the expected responses where all is needed is to type in the right commands. If you look at my answer I linked to a similar problem that was resolved with the provided steps. He's having problems understanding the steps. In this case, it isn't the computer... it's the actually typing in the commands and looking at the results.
Is there a way to figure out how close I am to getting the Pundit badge? Even a way to sort my comments by score would be plenty, but I don't find any way whatsoever to do it, and I don't feel like sorting through hundreds of comments... Just a curiosity question, really.
they are using xfce, tagged unity, gnome. after my answer, says not working. then without answering my comment, they said 'thanks for anwar's great comment'!
My problem is that when setting up a new filesystem using fakeroot files get corrupted. Finished built applications are being copied from its build catalog, into the filesystem in making. This copy sometimes corrupts causing files to be transformed into directories. See the example below of what ...
I installed fcitx-googlepinyin and texmaker in Ubuntu 16.04 using 'apt-get install' command. However, I cannot switch to googlepinyin in texmaker's editor. As a result, I cannot type Chinese in texmaker, while such a problem does not occur when I type at other places (e.g. the terminal).
@Zacharee1 I just looked at some of the other questions from Lyly. I see more of where you were coming from. By the way, I tackled the other link you indicated above.... askubuntu.com/questions/819593/…
My friend has this cool laptop which can be turned into a tablet by rotating the screen 360 degree. It works great on windows, but he is a linux lover :P . So we are writing a script to rotate display, show onscreen keyboard, disable keyboard etc.. But We have no idea how to detect rotation. !!! ie, trigger for script. I thought I could get some help here :) any ideas ?? thanks
sure. Once I get output of xinput list I can create your app. Now I have had difficulty occasionaly with xinput numbers changing. But if you download and install qb64 for Linux at qb64.net it will be easy to modify
We will try to write the script ourselves, what we wanted to know is how to detect the monitor rotation (>180 degree) so that the script can be triggered.
