I'm like "Wait, you're going to let me decomm. all the NT stuff, start contacting app. owners to see how to migrate them of windows server 200 AND let me upgrade our file server to 2012?"
@pauska I've heard that argument from my colleagues, and I tend to reject it categorically. In our area, you can get both Comcast Business Class and Frontier Fios, together, for less than the cost of a T1.
@pauska A T1 that's down in spite of an ironclad SLA is still down. If Comcast goes down and the client has two internet connections, they don't even notice. Never mind that they have at least 10x the capacity.
@pauska the comms. manager doesn't believe in redundant switches - even in the core. "The network never goes down." Yeah right, 3-4 weeks ago the whole core went down for 12+ hours. So it wouldn't phase me that the rest of the networking stuff is fucked up too.
we pay the same for the lines if they're MPLS or not, it's just the SLA that beats every internet option out there.. Norway isn't large, and ISP's usually share the same physical fiber route to each city
@pauska Oh, I'm not talking about MPLS. I'm talking about the "your work connection is slower than your home connection but you should pay 10x more for it because of the SLA" argument.
@pauska I do that. I set up my home network as an unusual subnet to keep from potentially conflicting with VPN connections to clients with common subnets.
I need to write a program that does some LK optical flow calculations on an USB webcam feed using OpenCV. This has to be on an embedded system.
I currently own a Raspberry PI revision A coupled with Microsoft LifeCam VX-500. Althrough the camera works correctly in 640x480 resolution, I am gettin...
We have a 2003R2 DC VN that has a non functional AD. There is no System State Backup, but we do have a 2 year old copy of the VM. Can the copy be used in any way to restore the existing server?
@MDMarra Pretty much. I went from consulting and architecture when working for myself to customer support and infinite troubleshooting... Strength-based culture my-ass.
@KevinSoviero Did you ask "What's a typical day/week like?" and "What is a sample issue that's happened recently that is something you'd consider typical in this position?"
@KevinSoviero You going to stick with it, or get out during your probation period? It could look good as resume experience if you stick it out for 12 months
The worst part is that I love the company, and there is a position there that is perfect for me, "cloud architect"... Unfortunately, that's not the job I got...
@voretaq7 Props to you. Had to fuck about with the new tumbler and old disks for abit but I go the ignition re-keyed. I'm not claiming locksmith status, but it was just as you described.
@MDMarra I didn't say I wouldn't settle for anything less that an architecture job... Just that it's my perfect role... Really, anything other than customer support would be a god-send.
@voretaq7 My method of choosing clothes - go to the wardrobe. Choose the least wrinkled shirt and pants. Iron shirt if not wearing a sweater. Iron pants if they are too wrinkled. Done.
@MarkHenderson My method of choosing clothes: Black shoes, Black socks. If no meetings: Jeans. If meetings: Black slacks and nice belt. If day in (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, [Holidays]) T-Shirt ; else button-down shirt.
@MarkHenderson My method is to pick whatever shirt shows off my fabulous deltoids and slim waistline. Then, shoes make the man, so wingtips or cap toe.
Some idiot sent something to me with signature required, so the postman left that beige slip in my door. Can I just sign that shit, leave it in my door, and then he'll leave it tomorrow? Or do I need to be there in person?
I checked ishouldknowthis.stackexchange.com but there was nothing there
@ShaneMadden Not any more than I have against slide rulers and pocket protectors. And fedoras. And leather trench coats. And people who wear bicycle gloves when not bicycling.
