We have a 2003R2 DC VN that has a non functional AD. There is no System State Backup, but we do have a 2 year old copy of the VM. Can the copy be used in any way to restore the existing server?
@Goatmale There's no "other" place that authoritative data for zones are stored. DNS is decentralized by design and authoritative name servers are the source of truth for zone info.
@WesleyDavid you should make yourself useful. Go out and fetch me a cute, gay, not overly flaming, not overly fashion obsessed man who is good in bed and isn't going to freak out if I ask him to hold a {wrench, lizard, container of worms} :-P
We used to have gun laws like yours. My father in law used to keep a double barreled shotgun underneath his bed until about '92 when my mother in law made him get rid of it
@MarkHenderson As you can tell I'm pro-gun, but mostly because I'm anti-stupid, not necessarily because I'm all militia-minded overthrow the government or anything (Hi NSA!). People do stupid things with guns? Get rid of or fix stupidity. Kinda like my views on anti-virus software. Don't be stupid!!
@WesleyDavid You can't overthrow the government with small arms, and anyone who thinks you can is a goddamn idiot and needs to be killed before they breed and propagate the stupid.
Nomarlly, virtual machine get time from host, but when vsphere using VMotion to change virtual machine to new host. What's time of virtual machine when it in new host ? Old host time ? new host time ? or time sync from another source ? .
NTP is the answer.
NTP is always the answer to "How do I synchronize the clocks on some machines?"
A full tutorial on setting up NTP is far beyond the scope of this site, however you will find tutorials all over the internet. The gist of it is:
Install the NTP software if your OS doesn't alre...

@voretaq7 Then the time I called Acer support for another problem, and the lady on the other end was so crabby. I was in the server room and she was all "WOW IT'S NOISY IN THERE. HOW CNA YOU STAND IT. IT'S GETITNG ON MY NERVES I'M PUTTING YOU ON HOLD."
@WesleyDavid one Australia Day at Cisco we all had cognac with our lunch (office was empty, we were the only people in the entire building). That afternoon I'm fairly sure every single RMA was approved at the highest SLA and nobody got their support rejected for having an expired servicenet
@JourneymanGeek Suddenly I'm reminded of a funny interaction between Womble and Evan Anderson. Womble called something "super balls" in a post, and Evan said "I'm not familiar with that?" and Womble had to gently explain "Balls is a derogative term for something, and 'super' is a superlative modifier, sooo..."
we supposedly bought a batch of identical bits to build servers with 4 years ago. I have a feeling they were actually done in 2 batches, so "identical" is relative.
Also: is 2GB RAM enough to run a 64-bit OS (Linux storage server) on?
@JourneymanGeek What's the outside of the building like... is there anything that it can attach to, screw into, be glued to? We've got to get a harness or something to put it outdoors. Wirelessly transmit to your home wireless. Simple!
