11:02 PM
@aediaλ I've played Morrowind and Oblivion, and some others.
And I liked them in general, but the fighting always remained short of satisfying.

@Cerberus Ah, right. I didn't remember that.

I liked it more in Gothic II, where you would normally focus on only one enemy at a time, and you had to use timed attacks and blocks. That was great fun. But in Oblivion etc. it seems too much like buttonbashing to me.

I like Skyrim's fighting a ton, and I've played for... let's just say it's more of my life than I should admit.

Hehe.
So what do you like about it?
Oh, I did like "fighting" in Thief (more like sniping), a lot!

I've only played one main character but seen my husband play his main and at least one alt with different styles.

11:05 PM
Hmm...

Hello everyone.

Did you like Diablo?
Hi Bob!

Oh, funny story about Bob Marley.
After the store closed, we decided to play some of his music loudly.
My Jamaican co-worker (overweight, middle-aged lady) started dancing and singing, which is the exact opposite of her normal behaviour.

Oh, cool!
I like that.

Hmm, I guess the best thing (not specifically about how combat works while you're fighting) is that the game is flexible. You can change weapons pretty easily (I usually carry two things), you can try different styles and build different skills, you don't have to decide to be stealthy or a mage or a tank or anything at the beginning and stick with that.
@Mahnax Hiya!
@Cerberus Didn't play.

11:07 PM
@aediaλ Hi!

@aediaλ Hmm OK I like that in itself.
But then doesn't the game force you to make tough choices?
I like those.

I think Skyrim makes you choose between options a lot, but I've never played it.

Storywise, yeah. Or constraints that you can't choose everything at once.
But in the beginning you don't have to make too many choices you're stuck with without knowing what's going on. Your initial character selection doesn't determine all.

Hmm OK, that's good.
But don't you have to choose between some cool spell and a mighty special blow with the sword?

So in terms of combat, it's hard to say what I like. It doesn't have a slowed-down mode like Fallout's VATS, but it's ok without it. You can pause for a lot of things like to look in your inventory and take potions etc.

11:11 PM
Hmm.

On a fast computer it's quick to load from a quicksave if you keep dying in the same battle and learn what you're doing wrong, which I had to do sometimes in the beginning.

I heard you can't make your own spells any more?

You can have a computer companion assist you or not, as you like.

Why would you not want that?

I usually do, but one of a type that doesn't get in my way (a mage, now that I am tanking).
I didn't play the previous games to be honest, only watched my brother play Morrowind some, so I don't remember everything. It's basically new to me.
There's cooking and alchemy, no spellmaking.

11:13 PM
OK.
I will probably want to play it, when the dust has settled.
That means when I have upgraded my computer and the game is cheap on Ebay.
What computer are you using?

I do those to clear out ingredients and make money, but there's not a huge number of spells anyway, I think; you could probably learn them all. They come in books and my moderately high level character already finds duplicates, and she's not even a mage.

@aediaλ What level?

@Cerberus Uhh a good Win7 box for which I don't have the exact specs in front of me.

Heh OK.

@Mahnax Whatever level I finished the main plot at? I should remember, but I haven't played in like a week or two since now I've been playing La Noire.
I want to go back and finish all the infinite things of course, in my finite time.

11:17 PM
@aediaλ Oh, okay. I have a friend who is level 81.

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

He does not have any trace of a life.
@Cerberus What exactly are you referring to?

@Mahnax Legit level 81? There's tons of ways to get there with exploits (even without console commands).

@aediaλ He has it for Xbox, so I don't think he can cheat as easily.

@Mahnax la Noire.

11:19 PM
@Cerberus Ah. It's actually LA Noire, as in Los Angeles Noire.

Yep.
It's like Carmen Sandiego meets 1940s police.

@Mahnax Ohh I've heard of that.

@Cerberus Yeah.

@Mahnax Have you played Oblivion?
I suppose not?

@Cerberus Nope.
I do, however, find pictures of cats.

11:22 PM
Awwwwwwww.
I want that cat!
Not yours?
May I post it in the Cooking room?

Not mine.

OK.

@Cerberus Go for it.
@Cerberus I know, this is why cats are awesome.

Yeah.
They're my favourites.

I wish I could have one.

11:24 PM
Yeah.

I'm allergic.

I don't really have a way of letting it outside.
Aww.
How badly?

@Mahnax Awwh!
I gotta run! Night!

Night!

Hi - I heard you are posting cat pictures here

11:29 PM
That's correct.

Then I think I'll stay around for a while.

Ah, good.
I'm just trying to dig some more good ones up.

The GIF was distracting my eyes.

I just landed in the wrong room. Cats make me sneeze and poo on my lawn.

11:36 PM

Also, I need to go to work, so no more cat pictures for me.

@RegDwightѬſ道 …

Err, parentheses around "make me sneeze". I don't mean they make me poo on my lawn.

@DavidWallace cats make you poo on your lawn? Watch your conjunctions, young man. ಠ_ಠ
Jinx!

11:39 PM
I do enjoy invisiblecats.com though.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Ohh that one is so fucking great.
@DavidWallace Too late!

And I had flatmates once who insisted on getting a kitten even after I had told them I was allergic. And then lost it.

That's not very considerate of them. And they lost the kitten??

I didn't know that there is a bad imitation of failblog on the Internet
It is bad enough on its own, couldn't they imitate something of quality?

I parsed that as in, David lost his temper.

11:43 PM
No, it (the kitten) ran away.

I know but the entendre is funnier when it's double.

@RegDwightѬſ道 That was my first impression too. What's with David and his zeugmata today?

Several months later, a similar-looking black cat appeared at the flat. My (by then ex-) flatmate asked all her friends if they thought it was the same one who had earlier run away. The next day, someone pointed out that the original kitten was male but the new arrival was female.

@RegDwightѬſ道 That was my first impression too. What's with David and his syllepseis today?

@rumtscho Well you know how some things are so bad, they are good again? Perhaps these folks are trying to create something so bad, it is bad again.
@Cerberus That was my impression too. What's with you and echoae's today?

11:46 PM
@DavidWallace I see what you're doing: you're trying to sow secret cat-depreciation. But that's not going to work, young man!
@RegDwightѬſ道 They just are.

Hey the young man meme is gaining momentum.

@Cerberus I'm fairly sure I'm older than you.

Memes are so cheap these days. All it takes is a David, a Cerberus, a cat, the Internet, and a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

@RegDwightѬſ道 What? Where?
@RegDwightѬſ道 The latter being Your Lordship?
@DavidWallace Nonsense!

Here, there, and coming soon: everywhere!

11:49 PM
@Cerberus - how can you comment on how sure I am of something?

That was a song we used during our wedding ceremony.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Ah you are quite the observant young owl.

@DavidWallace you don't have freedom of comment down under?
Or are you wondering how a dog is physically able to produce commentary?

OK, can I say "@Cerberus - how can you correctly comment on how sure I am of something?"?

I dunno, can you? I think you just did.
Besides, he's a magic dog.
A mythical beast!
Feb 17 '11 at 21:22, by RegDwight
"The unicorn is a mythical beast," she said, and turned her back on him. The man walked slowly downstairs and out into the garden. The unicorn was still there; now he was browsing among the tulips. "Here, unicorn," said the man, and he pulled up a lily and gave it to him. The unicorn ate it gravely. With a high heart, because there was a unicorn in his garden, the man went upstairs and roused his wife again. "The unicorn," he said,"ate a lily."

11:53 PM
@RegDwightѬſ道 Why wasn't I there! I don't see myself there in the chatlog.

That's a question you have to ask yourself.
And I'll take the answer offline.
Have to get up real early tomorrow.

@DavidWallace I don't quite understand, but as a general pronouncement I will say that I can correctly do anything.

So have fun and good time of day.

@RegDwightѬſ道 OK good night!
