Yay, I solved this, I tihnk

Q: Many people value me above their brains

Solocutor Most value me above their brain or seek me for arms that are great Maxwell introduced me yet again As did Ward, though a century late One word and the cloud I will reach you or get to your house on the ice If I'm not being shot by the beach dudes I'll be playing with balls h...

At first, I thought it could be matter - but I couldn't prove it. Once I switched to Curl, the answers started to flow more freely.

2:51 AM
I'm glad I didn't think too hard on that one, too many slang words for me :s
it's clearly correct though

Yeah, a good example of a question with lots of plausible answers, but only one right one, though, imo
I'm still trying to learn where the "wordplay" tag should go.
You think it'd fit on that one?

I wouldn't add it personally, all of the lines of the riddle really are what they seem
there's no trickery involved

Yeah, that's where I'm having trouble figuring it out.
And why I can't write wordplay puzzles.

8 hours later…
11:07 AM
@Khale_Kitha please don't pin this starred message. It is very not necessary.

11:33 AM
@manshu Please stop telling other people what to do. It's not your decision to make.

@question_asker It was a request.
That's why I said 'please' in the start of the sentence

Well, you were wrong about it.

Oh?
how?

@HughMeyers Interesting solution on your birthday puzzle just now

So she was just slightly less than half serious.

11:37 AM
oh, it's the right answer
I'm confused, though

How so?

They don't show how to get from the hex representations to the 8-digit number
BE 1 A 9 BABE 9 A 5 DAB 0 FACE 4 A 0 BAD 4
why is A both 9 and 0?

How are we supposed to know that we should use hexspeak?

You take the hex numbers, turn them into decimal and scrub them out of the original.
What's left is the password.
She's a numbers girl and she's half serious so every second word of the message is actually a number.

OH, I see
that person should probably update their post to explain what's going on there
because there's no indication that those numbers are taken out, just a list of corresponding numbers in a way that doesn't make any sense

11:43 AM
If they don't, I'll post something as a wiki answer. People deserve something after all that.

did you check the URL...What are you getting for your b'day? :p

The puzzle I did after that one (Mysterious X) was meant as a kind of meta-hint. Get people thinking in the right direction.

what do you guys do in your spare time?

anything but not study.

@manshu can you be a bit more specific?

11:45 AM
Beverage exist hesitation.

@JesterTran We just chat here. About random stuff.

Hugh, if that's actually your birthday, you're like half the age I assumed you were

No. That's the character's birthday.

fair enough

And I don't have a girlfriend named 2778. Sorry.

11:47 AM
I'm still stuck on the 2 ropes/fuse question lol

send the link

He doesn't want the solution.

You have 2 lengths of fuse that are guaranteed to burn for precisely 1 hour each. Other than that fact, you know nothing; they may burn at different (indeed, at variable) rates, they may be of different lengths, thick nesses, materials, etc. How can you use these two fuses to time a 45 minute interval?

@HughMeyers Did you check the URL?

It took me a long time to figure out how the solution for that one even worked
the rope one

11:50 AM
I think that kind of question was on my recommended section of youtube.

@question_asker I really want to look at the solution but I shouldn't

Want a hint?

@HughMeyers nah not yet

@JesterTran Like I say, it took me a while to figure out how the solution could be correct

Good man!

11:51 AM
and I'm not even convinced it is correct, considering the "variable rates" thing

whew. @manshu left. the fun can finally begin
oh no
I spoke too soon

Internet was disconnected.
btw, you can shut me up anytime if you feel like having fun.

I like when puzzles get VTCed as "unclear what you're asking" after they already have an accepted answer
It's like no one is even paying attention

Now, HM is behaving like me. :p
comes in the room, walks out of it within a minute.

12:05 PM
@humn hasn't been in here in a few days

just yesterday.

they are one of my favorite chattists. chatteur? chatteuse?

hm
@question_asker you can have fun now. :(

12:37 PM
q_a, glad to hear that you were only in silent running when your computer was soundless
[check back later]

Edited my anwser to the girlfriend puzzle. Hope it is clearer now.

@fondor Thanks - hope I didn't come off too pushy, I just didn't really understand how you got from the words to the number without the explanation

@fondor How did you guessed about the hexspeak?

I quoted you, Hugh, (without naming) here from chat: "She's a numbers girl and she's half serious so every second word of the message is actually a number." Thoucht it is a good hint, even after the solution appeared.

@question_asker sorry for ruining your fun.

12:50 PM
@manshu well, it happens
:P

No, that's okay. It's good to improve answers! Everythings fine :-)

allo

Very neat and clean Girlfriend answer after all that mystery

have fun again. :)

I thought about the numbers girl. Over magic numbers I came to special hex numbers. I saw hexspeak like 0xBADBABE and from then on it was not far.

12:55 PM
gonna notice those letters a lot more from now on, in all the wrong places

@fondor thanks

K_K, i tried more with your comment at the Grid puzzle and rot-13-14-15everything and all i found was "lock"
which can be attributed to randomness
rot4 LOCKPH svsylm slbyzn ppyput djmmqo bzywhp

yeah it's funny

which puzzle?

I kept looking at the text of that going "ok, bad, babe...*dab*? this is weird but I don't know why"

1:00 PM
Just getting in

Q: A Grid of Characters

Peanut In order to solve this puzzle, you must solve this grid.

ahh
same, q_a

q_a, i've been trying to assemble a could-be-math puzzle for you with all the Greek constants
mathematicians won't get it but you probably will

I still find the answer to that brain one amusing

the curl? was that your answer?!

1:04 PM
I spent about 45m, last night, looking up things, for it. I was sure the answer was 'matter', at first, but while I was doing research I ran into information on curls.
Yeah
yeah, lol

didn't even notice, i was so into all the details.

haha

i've been in copyeditor mode for work and am seeing details everywhere

Yeah, I understand that - that's me 24/7 - it's exhausting, sometimes.

oh my god there's an answer on a question that is so beautiful in its purposeful badness that I want to vote it up, but so heinous in its attendant opinions that I want to vote it down

1:06 PM
loved it when you proofread Will's(?) details for the "only" answer

lol
and lol q_a - what's that?

A: The Consonant Eater

vowel eatereasy peasy: U p E p I p p E I p A U p I p p E p E p A p A p E p Y p E p E p p A p I O p p O p p E p p A p O p Y FYI: "Y" is not considered a vowel in civilized parts of the world.

before it disappears

just.. lol

it's so good
I want to donate to that person's cause

No, don't do that

1:09 PM
his name is vowel eater

someone made an account just to answer that question.... was it you manshu?

Imagine how hard it would be to read if he ate all of the vowels.;
Yeah

pppppppp
it couldn't be manshu
manshu is far too serious
manshu has no time for frivolity

@humn yeah...even KK's account and q_a's account are mine...so technically it's only you and me in this room

also "unedible" is bugging me there

1:11 PM
news for you, @manshu, it's only me.... the transformation into you is complete

me, too, q_a

oh nooo...you hijacked my account and me...time to leave the planet.

I want to do that Mr. Gordy puzzle but I don't think I know the song
and I don't feel like... I dunno, googling for permutations of synonyms

i got copyeditor-happy on Mr. Gordy but didn't know what to do with the mistakes in the letter
and left other mistakes on purpose too

I have a thing against made-up-words being used in place of real ones, anyways, q_a - heh.

1:13 PM
manshu, i hope i didn't accidentally ding you from the sandbox a couple of hours ago

@Khale_Kitha ?

Or real words doing so - like 'loose' or 'lightening'

ohhh yeah
looser

maybe not...i didn't get any notification.

good, i was trying to copy a chat line, picked yours, but it showed up as "@manshu: ..."

1:15 PM
He hates when you @manshu him

well @ m a n s h u, you @humned me so you had one coming

No...I @manshu when he hates me. :p

Yeah. Hey, @manshu!
lol

@Khale_Kitha he needs an example..
can i?

in sandbox

1:16 PM
'make an example of yourself

manshu, the recursive monkey.

KK, the King Kong :p

K_K, you tricked me into looking at the sandbox and got spammed

lol
@humn It's your job to save Karen!
I should have used SE usernames as the email addresses, in my story.

o, K_K, Karen's out of my league

1:20 PM
@Khale_Kitha She is alright...I told you...I met her some days ago

wrong Karen.

ah, been waiting to mention something to you too, Matt, about the poetic sequence

hey, @question_asker...

go on

maybe it's karen allen
maybe she's hiding out in the himalayas

1:21 PM
That gordy one sounds SUSPICIOUSLY like Bioshock

I did notice the "big brother" thing

might be the beginning of a series of puzzles where the goal is to fill in the puzzle. wasn't there another rececent one about the number of words in the answer?

and other things

er, big daddy

I remember the puzzle you're talking about, humn
I didn't make that puzzle with a series in mind, but I can see how it lends itself to one

1:23 PM
and there was a deliberate one, case of the missing rebus, if i remember

....It was time to change my profile picture.
I wonder how long before it will reflect, in here.

"goldy" seems like it would be important

right, K_K, mine from 3 weeks ago showed up here at first

You need to change it everywhere to take effect.

although OP misspelled it as "gordy" at one point (or is 'goldy' the misspelling?)

1:24 PM
Bah, what a pain
I wonder if I can just....

gordy no longer exists in the puzzle

well
I changed it to match all the instances of goldy
that could possibly (but not probably) have been a mistake

great catch!

does sting or the police have a song that matches those themes?

I was operating under the assumption that the letter contained hints to the lyrics
and somehow, Goldy was a reference to the artist

1:28 PM
Maybe it's Mr. Gold from Once Upon a Time....

that was the same assumption I was making

....okay, probably not.
Damn.
He would have made for a good puzzle.

(though my assumption requires it to be "gordy", not "goldy")

I wonder if a character, from a show, would make for an unfair puzzle...

think "disk" is spelled on purpose?

1:30 PM
It's spelled contrary to the usage of that spelling, but...
It could just be an accident.

i was going to respell it except that it was in the letter which i consider off limits

Yeah

they're used interchangeably

They are, but unanimous decision has been that disk is for electronic media and disc is for optical.

1:31 PM
there's a vague prescriptive lean towards using 'disk' for one set of things and 'disc' for the other
but there's hardly a consensus

I would say there is simply because the words are both short forms
Diskette and Compact Disc

what i was thinking too
but what if the radio is a computer ....

I like "disc" in general
but it really doesn't matter

But it really only matters, at the moment if it was a clue
Which I find unlikely
You generally don't "put on an [electronic] disk"

doesn't have that cluey feel

1:32 PM
"disk" isn't really based on "diskette"

K_K, did you see the original grammar?

it's actually the reverse

^^^^ right and right vvvvv

also, most importantly:
OP is not a native english speaker
so it's going to be a futile endeavor to try to glean clues from possibly-idiosyncratic spellings

That was my point
So it's a non-discussion :)
sorry..
non-diskussion.
:P

1:34 PM
like that person trying to claim that that "who's the doctor" puzzle hinged on "trapped in by ..."

sorry that we haven't come to expect better of you?

like, no, that "by" is just an artifact of not-speaking-the-language

I am not knowing what you are speaking of!

like that comma that did some damage at meta:language

10
Q: Who's the doctor?

Abhishek A writer trapped in electronics manufacturer. What am I? Hint 1 Hint 2

1:35 PM
I was teasing, q_a. Hehehe

oh ok
just being clear :)

lol

anyway, yeah, I figured OP here just meant "putting a CD|record on"
also, the goldy character laments 'new music', so you could make a case that it's likely to be a vinyl record he's putting on
but again, that feels incidental

it does feel incidental - and radios rarely have record players built in

"spin a disc"

1:37 PM
(though not impossible)

yeah
there's a LOT I'm chalking up to not speaking english

that's why math puzzles are better

UGH I forgot that doctor puzzle had somebody calling the OP illiterate
that's fucking vile

sooooooo easy to be hard
where's "illiterate"? hidden in unseen comments, sorry

?
oh, you know what, they deleted their comment but never mentioned it. My comment replying to it is still up. I'll delete that.

1:41 PM
thanks once again for speaking out, though

Sigh...
"

The answer to this complex algorithm is shown below:

The power level of our Warden Savior x The gassy meter of the human fart which, of course, equals The perimeter of the Sun

*. The solution was found by going to page 442 of the Holt Math Book Pre-Algebra edition. I highly recommend checking it out. I personally use it everyday to get me through my college years."

coming soon to a margin near you:

lol
Yeah, if it eventually shows up

not yet here
still not

I swear the answer review used to have a close reason of "this is spam"
But it's not there, anymore.
I
I was waiting for that one answer to show up, so I could mark it as such

1:44 PM
(never mind)

The person answering all of the blanks, of a question, with 'p'

I'm so lost on everything from the algebra book down, inclusive

hello, new icon!

And one of the reviewed answers is someone trying to delete a "non-answer" comment, because the user is declaring that this Gamow puzzle is plagiarized. Heh

hahaaa, the 'p' answerer will be closed out with a positive score

1:47 PM
Talk about tossing the baby out with the bathwater...

It's literally a reworded plagiarisation, heh.

I thought we didn't like plagiarized puzzles?

Two cells in a 2016×2016 table are said to be interconnected, if they are in the same row or in the same column of the table. No cell is interconnected with itself. There are r cells in the table that are colored red, and each of the 20162 cells in the table is interconnected with at least two red cells.
vs...
Let $m$ be a positive integer. Consider a $4m\times 4m$ array of square unit cells. Two different cells are related to each other if they are in either the same row or in the same column. No cell is related to itself. Some cells are coloured blue, such that every cell is related to at lest two blue cells.Determine the minimum number of blue cells.
I know - but someone's trying to delete the comment declaring it as plagiarised, just because it's not an answer.

1:49 PM
color was changed from blue to red
and "related" was changed to 'interconnected'

yeah, I didn't read that one as "declaring it plagiarized" (though I definitely see that now), I just read it as being like "I seen this question before. The answer is here: [link]"
which... that's obviously not how we like our answers, but I skipped reviewing it, so as not to raise anyone's ire

Just gonna use the information from the answer to flag it, as such, in case it is stolen.

oh wow
I was right about the "what is my wife trying to say" puzzle

you mean the other place stole it form here? the dates are almost the same, must've been close

no, there's was posted first

1:51 PM
very intriguing
the planet is now manshu's head

lmfao now there's TWO force field questions????

why u say this?

He switched it back to his old "Y U NO" picture
wait, what, q_a?

K_K changed your icon

oh geez
I'm still trying to figure out what's different between them...
Oh, q_a
(wife trying to say) I hadn't even seen that puzzle, yet.

1:55 PM
@humn Y U NOT GIVE ME CREDIT FOR SOMETHING I DO BY MYSELF

@Khale_Kitha Yeah I sort of guessed at the method of solving that puzzle but no way in hell am I capable of doing those things

Yay, new icon
Yeah, I could barely see it after knowing what it was supposed to be.

Y CAN GET EXTRA CREDIT IF U EXPLAIN WHAT K_K means by Y U NO
K_K, your icon arrived here minutes ago, even before manshu's

Yeah, I had to leave and come back to see it, myself.
Now I'm all green.
But my kitten left :(
I should overlay the pictures =D

do it!

1:57 PM

thanku manshu

Y U NO post smaller pictures?

please take down these pictures of me immediately
or I will be forced to contact my lawyers

That first picture looks like several people that I know =D

1:58 PM
the first picture i saw of yqu_a looked like two people that K_K knows

I was actually just now considering how my profile picture could be created, in photoshop

First pic looks like Hashim Amla

I'm pretty sure I could get it done
Ali Ababwa?
snicker
5 pts if you can tell me who Ali Ababwa is...

someone in Aladdin

yes, and no

1:59 PM
looks like alphahexic to me
