@NewPosts As one of the arguments in my incoming answer, I'm very tempted to use "Oh, come on, do you really think this will happen?" as a counter :P

1:03 AM
I know you're joking, but tbh I think "we shouldn't change things because we've been doing things this way forever and people won't want to do it" is not a great counterargument

It's more, "If we allow people to post any answers with their own self-restrictions, we'll get people claiming that their restriction is that the code must be >1000 bytes" (or whatever)
Cause, honestly, if someone countered that in a discussion (rather than a meta post), my response would be "...really?"

@cairdcoinheringaahing It’d be trivial to restrict restrictions to not being about the tag at hand

Even that's overkill imo
"Just use common sense" is a rule that I feel like we overlook too much
@Wezl Nice profile picture :P

Something I commented under WW's answer that I think is a good justification for allowing self-restrictions:
You could sort of view those self imposed restrictions as implicitly creating a language which is just an identical version of JS/Python/whatever which just has a requirement that the source code must, e.g., be a limerick
If you really wanted to be that guy, you could make "JavaScript but the code must be 1000 bytes" and achieve the same result as imposing a self-restriction: A very boring answer that's the same as a normal JS answer but without effort needing to be put in

2:44 AM
@lyxal my second answer was in golfscript
I think one great example of a self-imposed restriction is ppencode-compatible Perl answers
Those are Perl 5 answers that only use space-separated keywords made of lowercase ascii letters. No digits, no symbols, not even newlines

That's pretty neat

mornin

they’re not super golfy, but they make for pretty interesting answers, imho. I don’t understand Perl, but I like seeing those answers.
@Razetime yo

I think 2021 will forever be remembered in esolang history as the mad rush to replace TIO as the site for esolang running. And it's still a toss-up to see which site is going to come out of this as the new standard moving forward!
I just came across yet another one on Github: github.com/raxod502/riju

@AaronMiller gamerrrr
anyone already and expert on Lean?
I got zero experience in theorem proves

2:52 AM
@AviFS Oh no I really need to work on RTO

@RedwolfPrograms Wait! We sooo need to have a private diep.io server!
@RedwolfPrograms I know, we doooooo!!!
And pgexer, how about ATO?

@AviFS Will you be able to any time soon?

Or is it pxeger, I never remember, haha

It's regexp backwards, that's how you remember :p

@RedwolfPrograms I think so actually, I wish I could commit though. Things are really unpredictable still. But Wednesday I can try again!!
@RedwolfPrograms Oh no way! I never noticed, thanks!

2:55 AM
Sounds good! I like working with you because if I'm left on my own I'll go off and start working on something else in ten minutes :p

@RedwolfPrograms You're not the only one! Trust me ;)

isnt the python release stream today?
oh wait
its done
i am getting python 3.10 now
good thing i didnt start working on the interpreter in dinoux

Does pythonanywhere support 3.10?

@emanresuA idk
@emanresuA it just released
so ig no one will support it

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i have uninstalled something successfully for the first time
well history exam

What sort of history?

4:20 AM
@RedwolfPrograms wait theres division in history too?
history and civics

@pVCaecidiosporeadduced At least where I am, there's World History, US History (a US-only thing of course :p), and some optional ones like European History

And they count Human Geography as a history class
Along with Economics

i have history as just history either its europe or american or indian
obviously most chapters are indian history

Where I am, the history classes are usually split up by year:
6th: Geography/World History (but since it's 6th grade they don't go into much detail)
7th: Texas History (guess which state I live in? :p)
8th: US History
9th: Human Geography
10th: World History
11th: US History (again?)
12th: Government, Economics
History's probably one that varies a lot more by region, since math and science don't really change depending on where you live :p

4:46 AM
well part 1 finished
i finished first which is weird
considering this is history and we just have to click on buttons

5:25 AM
Why didn't y'all sussy bakas tell me that getting the covid vaccine would result in a day's worth of pain in my arm?!?
Because it is uncomfortable as all frick the pain

Well, congratulations.

I don't need congratulations I need the discomfort to stop

Have you tried painkillers?

Aug 30 at 22:19, by Dude coinheringaahing
@emanresuA Congrats, you're now 50% immortal :P

@Adám I don't have any, and I probably wouldn't anyway

5:30 AM
@lyxal Nothing really much to do about it - I have quite high pain tolerance though, so you might want to try something.

@lyxal oh no one did?

It happens with all injections, at least for me, although some are worse than others.
I am very glad to provide a service to fill in the terrible gap in edit distance questions which codegolf.se has had. When there are as many edit distance questions as quine questions my job will be done. — user9207 Apr 3 '20 at 10:05

@lyxal also results in mild illness :)
have fun

Out of context, but it's...
... a very sussy baka.

I was surprised, when I got my vaccine I didn’t feel any side effects afterwards.

5:46 AM
@Razetime commit actual frick

@lyxal you should’ve gotten the same vaccine I did:

@lyxal Wait, did you just get the first vaccine?

@AviFS yesterday

⍤⍥⍤
You're in Australia, right?

yes

But like... is it only now possible for you to get the vaccine?

to get the pfizer

6:16 AM
Does it have to do with being under 18?

I'm not under 18

With the California roll out, we all got ours in late spring
@lyxal Argh, I get so confused.

it's because of availability and the fact that they took the doses meant for us up to another part of the state

Does it have to do with not being under 18?

no
it's purely availability issues

6:17 AM
... that was a joke though : (
I said not this time

For all of September, the earliest I could book was yesterday

Wow, that's crazy!
When was the first vaccine available to you and which was it?

Astro has been available pretty much the whole time, but I wanted to wait for pfizer

Makes sense! I did fine with the Pfizer, but my sister was sick the next day. My parents got Moderna and were very sick for over a week. Luckily they got their shots a month apart.

btw I spent literal hours trying to get earlier than the 4th

@cairdcoinheringaahing for Flatten the CUBE, what would happen here? According to the spec, it would go down at the 'v' and then go to the left, but there's nothing there.

Given that there aren't any test cases covering that, and I'm not entirely sure what would be best, you can assume that you'll never get an input where that's a thing

7:41 PM
Anyone have any feedback on my new sandboxed challenge?

Looks good to me, but you should probably leave it for a bit.

@JPeroutek I'd recommend letters other than u, U, d, D for the test cases, since u and U look very similar (at least for my system's fonts)
Also, I'm not really sure this challenge is that interesting, and it's probably a near-dupe of lots of others. I'm pretty sure the solution is just "U/D until at the nearest multiple of 5, then use up a few u/ds"

7:58 PM
Yeah, its similar to the problem to find the minimum amount of change needed.

8:25 PM
I wonder... When we finally get enough questions, how many people are going to get Generalist?

@DLosc That's a fun one! Hadn't heard of it; thanks for the link!
@Adám Wait! You can interact with it in the REPL too. Did anyone notice? You just click on the right-hand side.
And the repl feels as fast as running locally; in speed and ability to replify it's ahead of TIO and every other such site I know.
There's replit.com which also can feel local speed-wise, but the languages it offers are severely limited to a dozen mainstream ones.

@AviFS Yeah, I noticed.

@Adám Oh, I clearly hadn't!

Now I want Dyalog there. Should be doable.

@Adám Is it the best place to run a GNU APL repl in the browser?

8:39 PM
cool site

@AviFS Not just best – only, afaict.

Looks down to me.

oh... yeah

8:40 PM
@Adám Or you guys can make tryapl.org faster, haha

well that used to work

@AviFS Sure, but even if we manage to make it faster, it is still limited. Riju uses containers, so it is unrestricted.

@Adám Neat!
@Adám Oh right! Then maybe tryapl can just redirect to Riju :P
I'm going to try and find that convo now, I know I asked before why it's limited rather than containered. I don't remember the answer, though

@emanresuA Quite a few I would imagine. How close are we?

@AviFS Well, TryAPL has lots of features that Riju won't ever have.
@AviFS Because we have not figured out how to do it containered. Notice that TIO doesn't have interactivity.

8:45 PM
Right, but Riju does. And in principle, I can't see why containers should limit interactivity, either.
Hmm, I guess I never asked why last time, I thought I had.
@Adám Here's a link to the last time this came up.
You reworded your bio, Adám!

@AviFS I did? Oh, you mean on GitHub?

Maybe there too! I meant here:
> Orthodox Jew, full time Dyalog APL programmer. Good, because main interests are Judaism and APL. Always excited to teach or help with, or answer questions about either. @Adám in The APL Orchard chat.
Same content, but different wording!
Unless... has it always been different in your chat profile vs your main profile?
I don't think I realized that was possible.

@Adám isn't TryAPL technically non-interactive anyways?

@AviFS They are completely separate. The chat one doesn't support MD even. It also has a lower limit, so I use a briefer wording.
@dzaima Ah, well, now it is.

@Adám That explains it!
SE chat yet again... behind the times

8:58 PM
… which means that we just need a good sandbox solution. We're working on it, but it isn't highest priority.

@AaronMiller @cairdcoinheringaahing I'm going to golf this as much as I can, fix a couple little bugs, and then post it. That was a lot of fun!

9:21 PM
@WheatWitch 13 tags / ~1k questions to go.

Ah so that will be a while.

BMG is soon tho
@AaronMiller Are you just doing it for Bubbler's bounty?

9:57 PM
@emanresuA Are we gonna write some drafts, then?

Sure!

I'mma write some AI generated drafts lol

Draft: Prove the Riemann Hypothesis.

@emanresuA Nah, I just wanted to do some challenges in Vim, and then I remembered that one, so I decided to do it, since I like making obnoxiously large Vim answers, and I figured Vim would also be the perfect tool for the job. I actually forgot about that bounty, so thanks for reminding me!

You don't have a mom, you're a Lyxal.
Wait

@emanresuA what's preventing it from being awarded?

@lyxal Do the Lyxal have moms?

@AaronMiller well maybe if you didn't pronounce a challenge as no, it's a chat message then maybe I wouldn't
@emanresuA ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Neil We need to have 40 tags with >200 questions.

I’m not sure if any of this conflicts with existing lore, but this is way more lore than I expected from that prompt: gist.github.com/AMiller42/8c0911d0c201148ac022529d6d233922

@AaronMiller yes there are conflicts with lore there

> Yes, the Lyxal have a language, but they are not able to speak it due to their physiology. They communicate via modulated radio.

@lyxal Conflicts shall be purged.

Even better:
> The Lyxal are not an independent race. They are the product of Lyxal Incorporated, a corporation based in the Alpha Centauri system.

10:26 PM
> Lyxal speak a language that is similar to English that has evolved over time through human contact (since they were once human). It has its own grammar but feels somewhat similar to English speech in some ways especially because it shares many words with it.
@AaronMiller I see your lore and raise you gist.github.com/Lyxal/b418fe49a6f3f4fbfda993746c23fb44

Pants are considered a human invention, and not to be trusted.
6
So the Lyxal were originally from the interspacial void between galaxies, but were spawned into our galaxy by interspacial imps. Since then, they have reproduced, though all that is known of that reproduction is that they hatch from eggs fully mature, and they respawn upon death (though that respawning may be completely separate from the reproduction/hatching).
Or were they spawned into the ixadigal by the imps and later migrated into our galaxy?

@AaronMiller I think this

10:45 PM
@AaronMiller Oh dear, is it all downhill from here?

@user it’s comedy all the way down

@AaronMiller @RedwolfPrograms Is this why you got those emails about pants?
