is there ever a case where a "relationship" is between 3 or more items?
@cat :) Do you have a particular preferred pronoun?
@NathanMerrill It's called a love triangle

aka "1 of X is related to 1 of Y which is related to many of Z"
-.-
while databases don't natively support that, is it useful?

Q: The kitten command

TheNumberOneA kitten is much like a cat. Some of the main differences are cuteness, lack of intelligence, and size. Similarly, the cat command is different from the kitten command. Fortunately, there is only one difference in this case. In the kitten command, all uppercase letters are replaced with lowercase...

@QPaysTaxes I needed an avatar for Stack Exchange and I decided to go from identicon -> lame thing -> goose -> magpie.
03:19
4chan is... 4chan. It's like the heart of the Internet
@AlexA. I don't really remember. I know I tried learning C++ and Java back when I was like 13 or 14, so I presume that must've been at the encouragement of my brother (who was 7 years older). I must've taken to it because programming is in a way like math, and a love for math had already been instilled in me by that time by my 3rd grade math teacher.
@quartata I have a basic idea of it. It's like some kind of message board for trolling or something like that, right?
cat
cat
@AlexA. What inspired you to learn to program?
its where the memes come from
and also much worse things
@QPaysTaxes I have faith that our mods would promptly delete it if it were posted there.
03:20
much worse things
@cat I had to for a job. Haha.
Free poll: What inspired you to learn to program?
@AlexA. is it difficult to program with claws?
Talons and no
4chan is a place where there are no rules. Except illegal stuff (primarily child porn).
@AlexA. Basically. Let's just say 4chan invented the term shitpost
03:20
my brother put x=x+1 into a computer and it worked and i was very confused and wanted to learn more
@AlexA. A book full of BASIC games to type in.
@quartata they invented it by example
@AlexA. a book about Java
cat
cat
My friend showed me Python in middle school and I was very intrigued, to say the least. He doesn't program much anymore :c
4chan also invented the term Internet meme. you might have heard of those
03:21
my dad got home a python programming book when I was like 8, I read it cuz I was bored, got him to install Python…
@Doorknob You saw a book and you were like "well this is some kind of book I guess I'll start computering it up a bit"

@AlexA. pretty much
@Doorknob Sweet
03:22
I learned TI-BASIC because a couple guys in the grade up were writing programs on TI-83s. I learned Blitz Basic because my parents got me a book named Game Programming for Teens (bless them!). Then my brother (same one as before) showed me Python, and Project Euler, and the rest is history.

@HelkaHomba Eyyy :D
I'm 25
I watched my dad do Perl programming when I was a toddler. When I was 6 I asked him how to Perl he taught me all his bad habits and the rest is history
@cat You're super young. :P

@quartata Aw
I was never really interested in hacking. I always wanted to make stuff, not break stuff. :P

that's not what hacking means >:U

I was using it in the colloquial non-programmer sense.

I still have that Java program I wrote for 7th grade, incidentally.
03:28
if you say it was tattooed on you, that'd be an amazing turn of events
From 2005. Sheesh. :D
@Quill Java
@El'endiaStarman it'd take up your whole body :p
I found a 10 year old incomplete C program that interfaced with some sort of serial device about a month ago
If I had a program tattooed on me, it'd be something like Pyth! :P
One of the reasons I decided to relearn C just so I could understand it
03:29
If I had a program tattooed on me, it'd be something in APL because it looks cool even if it does some completely inane task.
@AlexA. Oh that's even better.
cat
cat
@AlexA. Related
@AlexA. you could get the oneline GoL implementation
I bet there's a hardcore APL programmer out there with an APL tattoo
> Based on current costs ($60,000 to 70,000 per kilo), you could send a FemtoSat to the International Space Station for $1,000 and to low-Earth orbit for $3,000. This might not sound affordable yet, but the rise of commercial space companies could make the costs drop.
03:30
You'd have to ask NBZ.
Might not sound affordable yet?! That's like, a mid-range 3D printer!
@HelkaHomba why are there two 15s which one do I choose

@cat That's because ES6 is JavaScript and JavaScript doesn't deserve love
that's actually what you type at the top of a babel document:

// code goes here

@Downgoat lov babel even though I have no use for ES6

@quartata true!
@cat o/
@QPaysTaxes why does no one trust the goat ;_;
@cat night!
03:40
@QPayTaxes no not really. === helps a bit though
Apparently, ES6 is like a huge overhaul of JS to make it way better and more sensible, from what I've been hearing about it from Downgoat.
@quartata that what you're supposed to use
@El'endiaStarman pretty much
@cat don't let the mouse 16 bugs bite
@El'endiaStarman Downgoat is trying to fill your head with propaganda

@QPaysTaxes oops
@AlexA. Something more fun. Desktop background color poll
@El'endiaStarman not really since apparently you have to do Array(n).keys() to make a range
@QPaysTaxes what arrrrr u talking bout
03:43
@quartata I didn't say they fixed everything. :P
@HelkaHomba I do not know what my desktop backgroun dis
I've actually not used any ES6 myself.
@QPaysTaxes The one currently set then
@HelkaHomba I have two monitors and two different backgrounds...
03:44
my background is geno from smrpg
Black/red and gray/beige.
I guess white?
@El'endiaStarman Use the one where your first opened the poll window
@Downgoat er, sure
somebody uses the screenshot tool too much
Alright, beige then.
03:45
@Quill there is no "too much"
unless it's screenshot-golf
I'm thinking of making another programming language
this time however, the programming languages has two forms: user-friendly and 'compressed'
is the latter allowed?
@orlp is it in JS?
lol no
@QPaysTaxes Average the color and compare it to the options using some color metric if you like.
@orlp 2/10
03:48
@orlp I had that idea for Pytek but I've kinda gradually abandoned the "compressed" idea. :P
@orlp does minified fall into that category?
most languages don't have a whitespace fetish enough to minify things
well, the compressed form would have no relation to the user-friendly form, other than implementing the exact same behavior
@Dennis I'm a bit annoyed at jelly
I explored it, expecting some inner elegance from the point-free programming, but the seemingly arbitrary chain rules make me fail to appreciate any elegance
I wouldn't call them arbitrary. I just combined the train types of J and Dyalog APL, with a few minor changes.
I'm not really sure how to respond to that. In any case, I was going for short, not elegant. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
