@SmokeDetector naa-

tpu- by Glorfindel

Check the user's profile, that's his own site.

@Glorfindel Definitely NSFW, and I don't even have to look.
> hello it's me Radhika patel working as professional seo analyst
That tells me he's trying to leave the site in as many places as possible to spoof the site's google ranking
TP imo

Not sure, flagged NAA and cast a delete vote

2:09 PM
@ArtOfCode Probably a good idea. Do you have any news of what's left undone before the post will happen?

@Magisch Undo wanted SE OAuth login for metasmoke, but I don't think that'll stop us posting. Could do with an updated graph from @Andy.

@Undo, Your time to deletion chart and my time to deletion chart have differences. This is mine: i.stack.imgur.com/v7e8c.png

@ArtOfCode You're waiting on Undo to post though?

@ArtOfCode Everything should be current as of UTC midnight

@Magisch well we'd like him to be awake, yes

2:11 PM
except for the link I just pasted above
I have that section written, but not in the gist yet.

@ArtOfCode Thats in 1-2 hours, right?

call it 2-3
@Andy awesome

enderland will be interviewing at that time haha

I'm just trying to figure out how Undo's chart is generated so I can explain the differences

So we'll get european audiences next morning

2:12 PM
not that I'm as vitally involved as you folks are :)

@Andy which one?

after the post, everyone will be able to sign up for autoflags or will it only be the current list?

@AshishAhuja everyone

2-3 hours is 18:00 european time at the latest

@ArtOfCode Time to Deletion (last one) on the graphs page

2:13 PM
and 17:00 at the earliest - most devs are already done with work for the day then

@ArtOfCode so is there going to be any priority given to the current list?

I'm really not worried about our autoflags

@AshishAhuja at some point we'll do that, yes, but it may not be before the post

the vast majority of people signing up will care only about flags on SO

2:13 PM
Almost nobody has account on 170+ sites

Um well, is there going to be some minimum limit for the weight?

Someone that reads Ruby, can you confirm I'm reading this right: It is only taking into account posts that are deleted within 3600 seconds of being reported, right?

Post.group_by_day('`posts`.`created_at`').joins(:deletion_logs)
.where(:is_tp => true).where('`posts`.`created_at` > ?', 3.months.ago)
.where("TIMESTAMPDIFF(SECOND, `posts`.`created_at`, `posts`.`deleted_at`) <= 3600")
.average("TIMESTAMPDIFF(SECOND, `posts`.`created_at`, `posts`.`deleted_at`)")
@Andy yes

There's the difference then. I'm using 5 hours. Ta-da! I like simple explainations

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted user: Detect Color Code of live android camera preview by Ahbenzz on stackoverflow.com (@dorukayhan)

2:22 PM
@SmokeDetector why

@AshishAhuja Blacklisted user - blacklisted for stackoverflow.com/a/42276493 (m.erwaysoftware.com/posts/by-url?url=//stackoverflow.com/a/…) by http:metasmoke

@SmokeDetector naa-

Why were they blacklisted for that? Surely that's just NAA.

@quartata not sure. The feedback is from @Magisch

2:29 PM
@SmokeDetector f
For some reason I can't access my flag summary atm
It displays an error
> spam – Magisch Feb 16 at 14:19 helpful

@SmokeDetector why

@Magisch Title - Position 1-87: How do I find details of an American Airman with only his full name and service number

Wha?

service

2:41 PM
Why did it match the whole title though?

because regex

fp- by Magisch

That reminds me, my pull request is still open
If someone with github push access could wink wink view it over, we can avoid maybe a couple FP's from fitness.SE

Should the meta post conclude with a question we want to ask the community? I am thinking: "Would the community be happy with more automated spam flags being cast?" (though, this kind of moves it from an MSO to MSE post).

@ArtOfCode Poor excuse

2:44 PM
@Andy I don't think we need to - meta posts still don't need to be questions

@quartata It's not an excuse. It's the reason it matched the title.

It finishes up with a discussion topic thing, so I think that's fine

k

growing anticipation

@Andy Just a joke. But if it's matching service I don't see why the whole title would be matched. Is there a way you can see what regex tripped the keyword reason on MS?

2:46 PM
so I had planned to do some minor maintenance on Aurora for all of 10 minutes but I had zero sleep heh

@Magisch yeah, 206 false positives on fitness.SE

@ArtOfCode I did think of that only after blacklisting it, sadly

it's being caught 99% of the time anyway, so we can probably do without it

and I lack the tools to undo a blacklist command
That'd be a nice addition btw
A way to undo a !!/blacklist command

!!/unblacklist-keyword

2:49 PM
that sounds difficult

it's very difficult

Or we could be more careful with blacklisting in the first place :P

appending to a file is easy, finding text and erasing the line is... not

!!/unblacklist-keyword <line number of the blacklist entry in the file>

@ArtOfCode it'd be tricky, yes, lots of sed.
@Magisch who's actually going to go hunt that file down to find it?

2:50 PM
Batman
The answer is always, Batman

I suppose being even more careful is always an option
doesn't save you from typo's though

I thought the answer was always "caching"

Batman busts caching

even unbustable caching

I don't recognize Art on the side now o_o

2:53 PM
>:)

He's the multicolor'd box of shapes.
He's showing us mono-colors that he thinks he's better
squints at Art We're watching you, overachiever.

@ArtOfCode when did the rainbow-colored head crabs latch onto you and change your icon and genetics to be rainbow-colored

@Andy I was actually planning on selling the idea to Gravatar </wild-dreams>

Ha. Maybe it'll be more stable than they have been the last couple weeks

Anything else people think we should do before we post this thing?

3:09 PM
I'm reading over it

@ArtOfCode seek shelter?

possibly

Nah. I like posting on meta.
Keeps the blood flowing.
Plus, if it's hated, you can always try to get the most down voted post ever, without resorting to insults
Though, I think Shog holds that honor right now

I think jeff atwood does

Yeah, looks sane. Fine to post, I can edit in stuff as needed.
Like once I figure out how x-axis plotlines work

3:11 PM
So go-ahead is now?

Who's posting?

!!/blame

@Undo It's DavidPostill's fault.

heh

Probably not the best way to decide

3:12 PM
!!/blame

@Magisch It's Glorfindel's fault.

figures

I'm up for posting if you like

So it's just 'who' and 'where'

I'd say undo or art

3:12 PM
I can post

on MSO
definitely MSO for exposure

I'd tend to vote for Andy on mSO, if he's willing to shoulder the ping flood.

would agree with that
@Andy did you get your graph into the post?

It's got to be someone who is admin on MS at least

@Undo I'm willing to be pinged

3:14 PM
Then lets roll, no?

famous last words

@enderland Jeff vs Shog

Good, then. Looks like we didn't pick up any false positives last night.

Let's get the barely ending party started

Jeff wins...barely

3:14 PM
that's the one I was thinking of @Andy

@ArtOfCode adding it now. I got distracted after you helped with that code a bit ago. Give me 5 minutes

@Undo MS deploy waiting

@Andy Only two things I can see is s/3/4/ false positives, possibly linking to metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/flagging/logs?filter=fps, and change the graph to i.stack.imgur.com/XO0BX.png

Restart: API quota is 3600.

Y'all just about to post as I get off work
And I have to go shopping on my way home

Q: Can a machine be taught to flag spam automatically?

AndyTL;DR: We did it, so... yes. What is this? Charcoal is the organization behind the SmokeDetector bot and other nice things. This bot scans new posts across the entire network for spam posts and reports them to various chatrooms where people can act on them. If a post has been created or edite...

Who's going to find the first typo
I'm going to unpin the message about the gist

@Andy Made an edit already

I believe you win then @Magisch. One internetz for you

@ArtOfCode Only you leave that comment, right?
To prevent flooding

No reason to have more than that

@Magisch for now, yeah
other people can jump in as necessary depending on how much interest it generates

3:26 PM
If it goes nuts, might be best to just drop comments in here to claim them.

I've pinned this in SOCVR

yeah we know about it

heh

> Both of the above will be set up to only apply to Stack Overflow; no other sites will be included.

Can't Processed Meat check if the link hasn't already been posted in the chatroom before?

3:31 PM
@ArtOfCode Any reason for that?

@Undo because we posted on MSO, where a lot of people are only going to have accounts on SO

@Glorfindel It's a dumb Feeds bot with a custom username

I could have used all sites anyway, but it would increase our error count, which just doesn't look nice

Not at 280

first downvote

3:32 PM
Oh, right

@Undo yeah, as in if it tries to flag something on a site on which $User doesn't have an account

> Why you love spam?!

Let's set it to all the sites, then fix it to not log an error if someone doesn't have an account on a site

@Undo this would also be a good idea

Looks like the feature request is up 4 votes already too. It was at 44 when I looked this morning

3:34 PM
also, the sign in flow still isn't great. I'm gonna fix that.

@Undo And to focus on that topic a bit, do you have numbers per site? I'm curious if there are any sites with 100% accuracy, and also curious what the site w/ the lowest accuracy is. — TylerH 1 min ago
I don't have those numbers right off hand

I can pull those, need to finish something else first

@ArtOfCode actually I was curious to see it report and whether it reports all regs now. Also yes, but you can delete that user, I was merely curious :)

SmokeDetector is awesome! A few incredible community members got together and created it independently of Stack Overflow's internal spam-fighting efforts. It so happens that building some connections between our systems and Smokey is something I've been (very slowly) thinking about exploring, as ArtOfCode mentioned. No solid plans yet though. As for SpamRam, we don't really talk about it much publicly. True, the odds of spammers coming here to look up info on us are low, but if one does, that's maybe the one we'd actually need to be worried about. — Pops ♦ 5 mins ago

just... sigh. We'll tell you what we can, when we can.

You know with all the open nature of SE and whatnot being criticised in secret where you can't defend yourself (essentially all of charcoal minus the mods is) is not very much in the spirit of transparency, but whatever. I'm sure you guys will deal with it appropriately.

I'm surprised. Has nobody popped into here with questions or anything yet?

Apparently not
We're migrating to MSE. TL;DR: people took issue with it being on SO, so it's moving.

Note that the migration will allow double upvotes from folks in this room, please don't do that.

Right, I realized that I already voted, and so din't again.
heh, 33 votes, 2 views.

For better or for worse, we chose MSO. There were good reasons to choose either of them; we discussed those pretty well, and MSO was the decision. Let's not get hung up on whether or who was right or wrong - it's moved, let's just roll with it.

Right. *rolls*

grr
When some mods get tissy suddenly there is no discussion and no community choice anymore

5:27 PM
There's a balance to be struck between flexing your 'rights' and not getting run over by a bus. That's normal.

@Magisch with an attitude like that, no wonder people get annoyed with you (collectively)

Well

Wait, so why is the /people page linked twice? Once on 'we' and the other on 'orginization'.

i'm amazed you didn't manage to irk me with that comment.
(I'm very tired and a little bit more irritable today heh)

Migration is a community process. Mods should only override that in cases where the community can't make a decision

5:29 PM
let's just... not, eh?

alright
for your sake

Yeah, we've had to move it. Yeah, that's annoying, and I'm currently pissed off at a bunch of mods too, but... it ain't worth fighting over it
