Q: We're no longer starting new individual site Community Blogs - here's why

Grace NoteWe've learned a lot by creating these per-site blogs for any site which asked for them. However, we at Stack Exchange have not been doing enough to make blogs work - neither for the contributors nor for the communities that are associated with them. On our network, any site will have generated s...

Every Stack Exchange site starts with a Q&A site, made up of three pieces that help bring the whole community together:

But wait, there’s more?

A couple months ago, the Super User community took it upon themselves to create a blog run by the community. This effort has been so successful that a couple other communities floated the idea amongst themselves. Internally, we recognized this as an opportunity many of our communities might be interested in and brought the operation in-house.

We are happy to announce that with Blog Overflow, Stack Exchange communities are able to run a community blog.  Several communities have already begun blogging:  Super User and Gaming. …

Hello, all. I seem to have multiple accounts. Is this a known problem for which there is an easy solution?

Q: The Super User Blog -- now officially blessed!

Jeff AtwoodGreat job on the blog! After a call today with Ivo, we decided that the Super User Blog is now sufficiently awesome to be highlighted in the footer! You'll note that the blog link in the Super User footer now points to http://superuser.blogoverflow.com/ And it will correctly update to flag [ne...

Q: Stack Exchange Blogs Authentication, now with 80% less suck!

Grace NoteYou may have heard that a portion of our Wordpress Blogs were compromised on July 2nd. We took down the blogs immediately on detection, identified the problem, cleared it, and gave people instructions to reset their password. We also made the decision to change the security on our blogs - by int...

So it appears some random web site called hackaday has linked to the Cooking.SE blog. That's a lot of traffic....
May 28, 2012 13:01
@RebeccaChernoff It was suggested I ask you about creating community blogs. Our site (Mathematica.SE) will soon be ready to have a blog. We have topics and volunteers. What is the procedure for requesting a blog? What else do we need to do before getting one? We don't have a fixed schedule, but I believe the current level of interest can sustain a low volume blog in the long term.
Apr 4, 2012 18:16
@RebeccaChernoff Cooking.SE would like to start a blog. We've been discussing it a fair bit in #TheFryingPan, and also on meta.cooking. We have people signed up to write posts and also over 20 ideas for posts.
Jul 6, 2011 14:08
Well - as we have a couple of draft posts in the wingfs I have published our 'Welcome to Security Community Blog' post
Jun 14, 2011 21:37
@AviD Also important to note is that you should write about something you're passionate about. Because that's the topic you'll have an interest in to go an extra mile and make the post great
Jun 14, 2011 21:32
@AviD Its been done to death for you, but that's not the case for the people who use 123456 as a password
Jun 14, 2011 21:28
but you shouldn't forget that you're not just writing these blog posts for each other, but rather for the other network users who might like your site but don't really know they do
Jun 14, 2011 21:26
@RebeccaChernoff Any site can do something like a QotW; users shouldn't forget that while they may read all the blogs, others don't and finally, if you can write a great answer or even spot one, you can use it to write a good blog post. You don't have to do everything on your own! Literally, draft something and ask others for feedback, discussing the contents of your post will generally give you a good idea what you should/shouldn't add

@JanFabry the latest news is that Jin's working on a theme for the blog (yay!) so we'll have to wait until he's done. I'd advise you to start working on the organizing side and already queue up a bunch of posts, because they'll come in handy when you start to get holes in your schedule

BTW, because it's not really been mentioned, what sort of a role is SE looking to take in the blogs?
Apr 4, 2011 22:09
Is it just me or is Programmers just dying to get blogged about by the new Jeff or Joel?
Mar 15, 2011 13:19
@ThomasMcDonald and @RebeccaChernoff are we tracking the new blog sites stats now through something? Do I have access to that?
Mar 11, 2011 11:39
Oh yes, all content has to be your own original work, or be fully credited.

A: WPA Community Blog

Jeff AtwoodThis is a great idea! Now that there are multiple communities with an interest in a blog (Super User, Gaming, Wordpress), we might look at hosting this on our own servers -- and giving you guys full control over it to run and administer. From my perspective, I would rather see blog.superuser.c...

We could have one blog post in which community members would be invited to discuss what we should put in the build, and how to go about that selection process, discussing how to balance price vs. performance, etc. Then, once we all decided on what to get, you could use the SU funds to purchase the parts, then one of us could put it together (dibs?), and run benchmarks and stuff. then either that person could keep it or it could be awarded by some means to some superuser member

@codinghorror Additional tests needed: 1) cold launching Photoshop. 2) copying a bunch of mp3s into iTunes. 3) resuming from sleep.

4. We might also consider testing "long-term" durability of the drives... I don't know though
Feb 1, 2011 23:28
2. Compare speeds of HDD, SSD, and a hybrid drive
- Do a fresh install speed test
- Do a mirror of a "cluttered" drive and then speed test
Feb 1, 2011 23:28
3. Compare differences in speed of a regular SSD and a RAID 0 array of 2 drives
Feb 1, 2011 23:21
so this is what I was thinking:

1. post about SSD tech and it's differences from HDD
- Possibly talk about NAND and NOR tech and differences

Q: What do you want Super User Blog to test with SSD technology?

KronoSIn conjunction with the Super User blog, we will be getting three SSD's from Kingston. We want to perform tests on these drives and blog about the results, and need your help. What testing, comparisons, or how to guides, would you as a Super User like to see related to SSD technology?

Also anyone logging into the blog, don't delete any spam for the moment... It appears that there is a cluster of spams coming for a single domain... if so, I want to investigate blocking those IP's
