my choice was easy: I want to overclock, because I have watercooling
user30
I never quite finished my watercooled build
@IvoFlipse I'm thinking probably something a bit less extravagant than water cooling, as that's not a very widely used thing
I'll start writing up a blog post for the proposal/request for commentary/suggestions sometime soon
it might take me a little while though since we have final exams next week, so might be a week or two before i get it up there
user30
Anyway, I'm off now. Here's hoping everything is in order tomorrow morning.
No rush, im going to sleep on it as well.
00:21
OH MY GOSH! I HAVE'NT BEEN IN HERE FOR A WHILE TO SEE THAT THE BLOG HAS THE OFFICIAL STAMP OF APPROVAL FROM JEFF!!!!!!
2
hahahaha
yes, congrats to you @KronoS
@nhinkle oh man... this just made my day....
is now sitting on cloud nine!
:D
i have to go
l8rs @nhinkle I'm just going to sit here and feel awesome for a little while :P
you do that. you deserve it :)
00:29
and then get back to work on another QOtW question for this next week

4 hours later…
04:54
hey, congratulations @KronoS @IvoFlipse @ThomasMcDonald for the Officialâ„¢ Stamp of Approvalâ„¢

user30
@ThomasMcDonald @JeffAtwood's tweet effect ? just 12 visitors ?
aha
the second one is more like it
user30
@Sathya Nope. That's MT's horrible normalised form of measuring server resources
@ThomasMcDonald ohh
stressing quite heavily, for the brief moment I see. You do have SuperCache right?
user30
Well, I'm running W3 Total Cache.
user30
06:57
I think the main thing is the increase from nothing to some.
@IvoFlipse, if i were to get kingston to send me an SSD (i'm thinking of tweeting them like @Sathya and @KronoS did, but separately from SU), would SU be able to subsidize a 9.5mm optical drive HDD caddy for me to test out running an HDD for files and SSD for the OS and programs? It's something I've always wanted to do, but I've never been able to afford an SSD.
user30
But GA won't be quite up to date yet.
@IvoFlipse something like this, probably ($17 seems fairly cheep, yah?)
whoaaaa chat has amazon special-link
user30
@nhinkle Oh, I'm looking at getting something like that as well, but I was going to get the OptiBay.
@nhinkle you didn't know o_0
07:02
@Sathya I didn't know what? the amazon thing? no, i've never seen anyone post an amazon link here before ^_^
@ThomasMcDonald cool. any particular reason for looking at optibay? linkage?
if i do this and review it, would you find that helpful?
iirc github gists are also supported
i wonder if there's full documentation of it somewhere
*heads to meta to look*
user30
@nhinkle There is, if I remember rightly.
9
Q: What links and sites are handled specially in chat?

Juha SyrjäläThere is special linking to some sites in chat. What is the full list of supported and integrated sites?

07:04
@ThomasMcDonald looks like the same kind of thing for $80 more, unless i'm missing something
user30
@nhinkle I've been looking at it mostly because lots of people were recommending it on Reddit.
@Sathya thanks
@ThomasMcDonald well i think i'll go with the cheap one if i do this
i'd have to get an SSD from kingston first
i should go tweet them
@Sathya did you just tweet kingston and say "Could I please have an SSD to review"?
07:20
@nhinkle well it was more of a sarcatic reply
hah, how so?
> So @KingstonSSDNow is following me, do I get a review copy or something
I wasn't expecting a reply
LOL. nicely done
also, are they any warranty concerns regarding HP with opening it up and replacing the drive?
got a shock when they sent me a DM asking for my email id :D
@nhinkle I think the warranty gets void, didn't check tbh
hmm
i'd like to avoid voiding my warranty
07:24
Super Users don't worry about no sissy warranties
:P
right, but see, super users also don't want to have no recourse if their computer has unexpected problems and then won't get fixed and don't personally have the money to just buy a new laptop if the current one goes kaput
@nhinkle yeah I know, I was just kidding.
actually I was just too obessed with fitting the SSSD
so didn't check at all
and it would be just my luck for something to break if i did this
> The warranty on your HP product will not be affected by the installation of a non-HP upgrade/option unless your HP product is damaged as a result of installation and/or operation of a third party option, such damage will not be covered by HP warranty.
so basically, if i don't screw up installing an SSD, its mere existence is not a problem with regards to warranty
> It is possible to void the warranty on an HP product. Any failure caused by an unsupported or third-party component will not be covered by warranty. Opening a sealed component or sealed product will void the warranty. Examples of sealed components or sealed products include drives, monitors, and many handheld products. Opening the case will not void the warranty on products that are designed to be opened and upgraded, such as desktop or tower computers or servers
@nhinkle aha
nice find!
better keep that bookmarked in case you ever need it, @Sathya ;)
07:33
indeed!
> Opening the case will not void the warranty on products that are designed to be opened and upgraded, such as desktop or tower computers or servers
no laptop in that clause, @nhinkle
true @Sathya, but the other documents imply that a laptop should still be fine
true

hah, you just beat me to it i guess
is there a place where i can access all of the bookmarks i have created on SE chat?
we'll work something out if you get one @nhinkle
@nhinkle yeah
user30
07:42
Shame desktop Twitter clients come up as direct traffic.
@Sathya where might that be?
@IvoFlipse thanks, i'm going to contact them soon and see what i can get
ah, thanks @Sathya

2 hours later…
09:25
Hey everyone, esp @KronoS, big congrats on a getting the blog to official status! Nice work :D

09:53
I was just wondering whether wordpress uses blogoverflow too, but I guess not yet @ThomasMcDonald
@ThomasMcDonald is there anything you would want to improve the blog or try something for wordpress.blogoverflow?

5 hours later…
14:29
thanks @DMA57361
thank you! @JeffAtwood
Next major blog project:

Google vs Microsoft online services...
But first I have to make it through my interview with Microsoft, and this week's assignments.
Perhaps spring break I'll get it done

1 hour later…
15:54
btw @KronoS we should respond to Nathan's tweet, the one about testing Photoshop and importing songs into iTunes
16:05
@IvoFlipse I've already started looking into that. I don't have a valid copy of Photoshop though... however I think I can get a copy from the school.
I have found application startup timing benchmarking software. I plan on combining those type of tests with the comparison of the RAID0 vs single drive
but can also do a comparison to the Hybrid as well
user30
16:31
@KronoS I think that's pretty low, when it's next updated it should be somewhat increased.
user30
@IvoFlipse Not really, just finding the time to write some initial content.
@ThomasMcDonald I at first thought you were talking about my response to @IvoFlipse lol... now I realize you mean the traffic
user30
@KronoS If MediaTemple's form of server load actually means anything, we have seen apprx. the same amount of traffic again today.
WOW! That makes me super happy
user30
But I'm not entirely sure, since a UK day (GA day) spans two US days (MT day).
16:37
Ah.... so is the Server UK Hosted?
user30
No, it's US hosted, but Google Analytics is set to work with UK days.
@ThomasMcDonald I'm hoping to come up with a way to get more sites to organize themselves to write blog posts
@IvoFlipse like the other SE site? (fitness :P)
user30
@IvoFlipse Aye?
well I'm surely going to do it for that @KronoS
user30
16:52
Hmm, I had some administration to do. Now I'm lost as to what it was.
user30
17:15
Uh-oh. Managed to get myself locked out of FTP and SSH for ten minutes.
woops, how so?
user30
Working on setting up a proper deployment workflow using Capistrano.
user30
Was trying to login using the wrong username.
user30
Back up now though
