"The product its self sounds great and quite intuitive which I feel is vital for photo bases applications. Look forward to checking it out myself – especially if i win!"
that's a "comment" on the SU blog... "esp if I win?!" what an idiot... if you're gonna spam at least do something kinda relevant
13:26
Also anyone logging into the blog, don't delete any spam for the moment... It appears that there is a cluster of spams coming for a single domain... if so, I want to investigate blocking those IP's

@KronoS Should be fine, as long as Akismet is flagging it as spam (putting it in the spam 'bucket')

Q: What do you want Super User Blog to test with SSD technology?

KronoSIn conjunction with the Super User blog, we will be getting three SSD's from Kingston. We want to perform tests on these drives and blog about the results, and need your help. What testing, comparisons, or how to guides, would you as a Super User like to see related to SSD technology?

i just updated the meta question... as kingston has officially confirmed that they will be shipping 3 drives...
user30
three! That's great
I don't want to disappoint them, so we need to make sure that this is good... any ideas?
@ThomasMcDonald I know!!!!!
user30
Well, it's gonna need to be a series, I guess
Yes... I agree... I think it should be in stages as well...
user30
Any ideas as to the models?
23:17
i.e. a stage of what an SSD is and how it's different...
not for sure... but I believe it's one of these:
you're here @IvoFlipse
yeah, I was curious off course :)
no need to worry... otherwise I'd invite you
Why hello there.
Howdy @MarkSzymanski
Hi, @KronoS.
Any particular reason you invited me here? XP
Just curious.
23:21
hey @KronoS - just watching the transcript
so this is what I was thinking:

1. post about SSD tech and it's differences from HDD
- Possibly talk about NAND and NOR tech and differences
just got an IT phonecall :(
as many related articles as possible :P
and we should try to have SU questions behind it as well :)
2. Compare speeds of HDD, SSD, and a hybrid drive
- Do a fresh install speed test
- Do a mirror of a "cluttered" drive and then speed test
3. Compare differences in speed of a regular SSD and a RAID 0 array of 2 drives
We should look for questions as @IvoFlipse is right, we really need to keep this as related to SU as possible
4. We might also consider testing "long-term" durability of the drives... I don't know though
user30
@KronoS Long term is difficult, unless you're gonna set up a program to just do random writes over an extended period, I guess
user30
And then decide how much faster those writes are compared to real world
23:36
@ThomasMcDonald ya... I don't know how I'd do it.... was prompted by this question though....

A: Are SSD's really reliable enough for power users?

Brian An Intel presentation we saw said that the SLC based SSD drives were recommended for heavy database and file usage. They are much, much more expensive, and designed for things like SANs... We use SQL express pretty heavily as well, on most of our laptops, and went with the MLC based ones. We w...

A: Which linux filesystem works best with SSD

Brian OCZ, a big SSD manufacturer, has an excellent writeup and collection of howto's to optimize Linux for SSD's. Key is making sure to disable atime on the device, and a section talking about using EXT4 and aligning it properly.

this is another that can be tested
