You don't need to install it before your phone is lost. Just trigger the install through the web market after your phone is lost and then send yourself an SMS to trigger it.

I agree that I wouldn't want my company to install AndroidLost on my main cellphone even if they paid for the phone and it was their property.

It's not theft prevention anyway. It's for finding it if you lost it.

in fact, I had to reset one of the test phones, because it was locked at the store. Someone had put a pin into the phone and nobody knew the pin. This was the last phone they had so I used my own phone to look on the internet for the directions on how to wipe the Atrix so I could buy it.

@KitFox haha. The woman at the store tired to get her "techs" to unlock it but they didn't know how. I googled "factory reset Atrix" and followed the directions, and she was like "wow! you REALLY wanted that phone!"
