5000 commits
3 years of work :P
also, @ThomasWard, you've got tests to fix :P

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported answer: "There isn't" vs. "there's not" by Alklckk on english.SE
tpu- by Glorfindel

@Andy happy to. It's going down shortly.
@ArtOfCode which tests?
because the tests work fine as is?

@ThomasWard look at CI

@ArtOfCode i'm ignoring Master branch's CIs, because that's not the branch

9:39 PM
@ThomasWard ...you know you merged the py3 branch into master, right?

no i didn't
comparison between my master and actual master

then why does the top commit on Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector say "merge branch python3_conversion into master"

wat
i didn't do that
that must have been a fuckup, >.<
but i didn't do that >.<
fixing the tests will be easy
i have to just edit the circleci

someone with your username and avatar did, then :P

@ArtOfCode unless a merge broke, oh well
I didn't mean to merge it :/
@ArtOfCode circle config fixed

9:42 PM
CI on 2985854 failed.

wtfh
@ArtOfCode why the bloody hell are we using 12.04 images for building
when that dies in 4 days
switches Circle builds to 14.04 base image

ask Circle

jesus christ i hate circle
CIRCLE_BUILD_IMAGE=ubuntu-12.04
god i hate circle
i blame us for not fixing things though
it's set to 14.04 now, standby

@ThomasWard careful about adding random y's to your words, that's dangerous :P

lol

9:47 PM
hahaha

er... what the hell happened?

heh

@ArtOfCode it blew up because i fubar'd and had to push a new change to get a 'new' image.
otherwise it rebuilds with old.
it's using 14.04 now

CI on b5fcf97 failed.

@KazWolfe every now and then someone comes across this, and I laugh because that's exactly why I put it there. That's the page on MS that makes FDSC work.

9:49 PM
@KazWolfe I've seen that text before...what is it again?

@ArtOfCode What does it have to do with Lastpass?

@SmokeDetector ignore

@ThomasWard That message is not a report.

shut up
@ArtOfCode build success

@KazWolfe nothing at all :)

@ArtOfCode so... why is it in the lastpass iframe?

@KazWolfe not a clue
better question, why is lastpass using an iframe

that red "couldn't connect to internet" or whatever bar.

@ArtOfCode i have no idea how the Python convert got included, I didn't intend for that to happen, whoops. Tests work now, and I need to VPN to redo Midnight Eclipse

so... um... why is that text even there?

9:54 PM
@KazWolfe shrug

wat "_pickle.UnpicklingError: invalid load key, ''"

@ThomasWard why not 16.04?

@Andy not offered by Circle
12.04 and 14.04 were offered

Stupid circle

Undo's Raspberry Pi received failover signal.
Restart: API quota is 19999.

9:58 PM
his isn't pulled

That's probably bad, if it doesn't have py3

@ArtOfCode question. can we get Fido U2F on metasmoke?

@Andy his isn't pulled

a what
did you kill yours, @ThomasWard

@ArtOfCode two-factor things, usually used by yubikeys and whatever. fidoalliance.org/specifications/overview

@ThomasWard yet. All its going to take is a blacklist

it'll be started 'soon'
@ArtOfCode pickle decoding problems
so yes

10:02 PM
here, reference impl: developers.yubico.com/U2F
more secure than gauth

@Andy then we'd better fix this fast, because mine is having the same issue

Undo's Raspberry Pi received failover signal.
Restart: API quota is 19964.

oh don't tell me tar compressed the files in place

:/ on mobile . Let's revert to pre py3 merge

The quota_remaining property was not in the API response. Error: ids at 22:04:42 UTC. Backing off on requests for the next 12 seconds.

10:04 PM
@SmokeDetector this has got to be a bug
@ThomasWard, can you revert?

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 361ec87 (Thomas Ward: Pickle handling: use UTF-8) (running on teward / Midnight Eclipse)

launching now
@ArtOfCode it'd be hard, I can try
but i've fixed pickles.
uhm
@ArtOfCode hang on

if you've fixed it, no need to revert for now

@ArtOfCode i fixed the pickles, yes,
but not necessarily the quota_remaining property issue
and i think that's only at first-launch?
!!/alive

@ThomasWard Yup

10:07 PM
!!/location

@ThomasWard Undo's Raspberry Pi

blah
!!/standby Undo

@ThomasWard nope, I'm getting the same error
unpickling error

@ArtOfCode there's two pickles I had to 'forget'

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in standby mode at rev a8f12df (ArtOfCode: Merge pull request #648 from j-f1/master) (running on Undo's Raspberry Pi)

10:07 PM
because the encoding is fubar
LOL [18:07:40] ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'users'

that better not be the notifications pickle :P

Restart: API quota is 18558.

@ArtOfCode nope

what do I need to remove?

hang on
@ArtOfCode autoignoredposts and...
i'll let you know in 2 minutes

the others imported fine
and the queues (bodyfetcherQueue*.p)

10:10 PM
[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 361ec87 (Thomas Ward: Pickle handling: use UTF-8) (running on teward / Midnight Eclipse)

@ThomasWard that looks like a chatexhange error

@Andy it is

Restart: API quota is 18557.

we never figured where it is
wtf travis shove it
"invalid escape character" what
what the hell deprecation warnings
is that a CodeCov error?
because that doesn't die that way in Circle tests

Hmm?

10:16 PM
@quartata the Travis CI go lookit
!!/gitstatus

On branch deploy
Your branch is up-to-date with 'origin/deploy'.
nothing to commit, working directory clean

@ThomasWard Phone is about to die but
Looks like it isn't installing tld

that's easy to fix i noticed what's broken

What version of pytest is it installing

what version's defined in the requirements :P
if none, then latest
tld not being imported is because we also didn't include the user_requirements.txt change to Travis heh

10:19 PM
CI on 35a28ac succeeded.

there we go. Still getting deprecation warnings though

@ArtOfCode Well, you've prompted me to go through that analysis with FireAlarm. I think the arguments are applicable to SmokeDetector, so I've posted them there.
TL;DR A database would greatly benefit FireAlarm, and it's even more important for Smokey because of the larger scale.

OH wait a minute

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in standby mode at rev 361ec87 (Thomas Ward: Pickle handling: use UTF-8) (running on ArtOfCode/EC2)

oh i think i know what those're about

10:23 PM
[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in reverted mode at rev 361ec87 (Thomas Ward: Pickle handling: use UTF-8) (running on ArtOfCode/EC2)

working again for me, @ThomasWard, I'll leave it in standby

Does Art have py3?

@ArtOfCode mind sharing your errors? (I think yours blew up somewhere)

10:26 PM
@Andy yes
@ThomasWard no, that was me getting it up to date in a console

ah OK

10:42 PM
tpu- by teward

@ArtOfCode well, I think i need to write a quick migration script to erasify the bad pickles, get all the Python3 stuff, and then scream evilly xD
smokey_py2_to_py3.py
and it runs in python2 xD
tons of subprocess calls! xD

Huh, I can type almost anything I want in front of erwaysoftware.com and I'll get Metasmoke (with an invalid certificate)
But if I type something really, really long, I get a server not found

@NobodyNada that'll probably be because you exceeded the character limit for a valid domain name

Probably
I expected a different error message than "can't find the server" though

11:00 PM
back

@ThomasWard FYI: the reason why I originally had os._exit (and the reason I've discovered now that pull and stappit aren't working) is because since it's in a CE worker thread the SystemExit exception is being caught
stupid CE

and silently swallowed?

Yep.

An uncaught exception should cause a crash, not be ignored

11:14 PM
actually not quite

Not always, but I'd say so in that case (unless it's an expected exception)

It looks like it's because it's in a separate thread
oh no that's not what I meant
I just meant it wasn't a try after all

...so Python silently swallows uncaught exceptions?

No it just causes only the current thread to exit
But if it's done from the main thread all the other threads are joined with it before exit

Ohhhhh
But os.exit only causes the current thread to exit?

11:16 PM
os._exit causes the whole program to exit without any cleanup
sys.exit throws SystemExit which if uncaught causes the current thread to exit

Hmm.

excepthook is using os._exit currently anyways so I don't feel bad about using it

brew

brew

11:22 PM
But it might not be installed on your machine

/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
Xcode is a prerequisite

@QPaysTaxes Ruby's installed by default
@QPaysTaxes Great; make sure you've run xcode-select --install to install the command line dev tools
@QPaysTaxes Yep
I copied and pasted that from the Home-brew website, and I've used it before

@ArtOfCode I'm in favor of this, but it probably wouldn't hurt to attempt this on NG first and then try to move it over to classic Smokey

yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking

11:36 PM
@ThomasWard If we can kill it when we need to, go ahead :)

@Undo you might be a few hours too late :)

yeah :P

currently running on Thomas' server, and mine's in standby on 3.

In related news, I've somehow been able to work on ASP.NET MVC without any learning curve. It's Rails with more capital letters.

11:42 PM
Cool

@Undo Yeah, it's very similar to Rails from what I've seen of it
The big difference is in views I'd imagine
Razor seems weird
Why isn't Travis running my builds in parallel

eh, Razor is just slightly irritating ERB
