Sects and Schools of Hinduism

The traditional schools of Indian philosophy are divided into two categories, the Astika schools which accept the Vedas, and the Nastika schools like Buddhism, Jainism, Charvaka, and Ajivika which reject the Vedas. It is the Astika schools that are appropriately called Hinduism or Santana Dharma. Now there are six main Astika school: Samkhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Purva Mimamsa, and Vedanta.
