Before Vista, there was no hardware peak metering on devices or KMixer (predecessor to WASAPI for internal audio mixing). There was no software fallback implementation to provide metering data too. So you just don't have the data, you cannot obtain it.

I tried to rewrite my library for Windows XP.

As it turned out, it does not make sense.

Not really intuitive though.

I love-hate it as well. It's too friggin hard.

the animations are good, it's just the feel of the controls; it's always difficult to do up-slanted wall-runs and it feels like it's the game's fault, not mine

Meat Boy is great. I'm hoping the next N game will come to PC as well, N+ on 360 was fantastic, except for the fact that mine strangely stopped saving progress really early on.

I guess I could have tried reinstalling it, but never did.

Thomas was a really cool game, maybe my only gripe with it was the lack of replayability

kinda like Limbo, another game I love, but once you've done it, the magic is kinda gone

@spyder That's the spook, alright. In Payday 1, he was pretty much the same, but he was easily staggered and killed. If you have a crew that knows how to deal with spooks, you have no problem. But they tend to spawn behind you.
