Q: Tips for golfing in Wierd

Jerry JeremiahWhat tips do you have for golfing in Wierd? Tips for golfing other languages don't seem to help one golf Weird programs so I'm looking for ideas that can be applied to code golf problems that are specific to Weird - especially if it helps me reduce the size of this answer at "Hello, World!"

00:19
@Calvin'sHobbies Woah, you're right, that's so weird. Even if my fiancée and I got married tomorrow and had a kid as soon as possible, it'd still be about 16 years before they could start driving a car, and the progress in the field in the last four years or so has been incredible.
@El'endiaStarman Do you mean the disabled textareas? They are different from the overall bg color, but maybe not different enough...
I should stop testing only how it looks on my phone.
2
@ETHproductions is this from all time? I really don't think some of those names should be as big as they are, and there are some odd words there too, like integral(u'*v
@NathanMerrill hey that's from what flawr was teaching me FA today
@Dennis I meant more for displaying whitespace without resorting to autosizing text boxes.
@NathanMerrill No, just the last 10000 messages
00:24
Oh, completely misunderstood that.
which is what? a day here?
It says "1.1k per day" in the room description, so I guess 9 days
@quartata no
He'll prolly be on later tho
Let's say I have a REPL language that has a four letter name (say, moon). What would be a nice readline prompt for the REPL? (E.g. >, >>>, moon> etc. pp)
An educator decides to put years worth of lessons (in youtube format) on a single page; a single tab process uses
83% CPU
1.8 GB Memory
13766609 Cache Faults
825 Page Ins
17 Threads
1252006 Context Switches
175292 Unix System Salls
No scrolling on page; no response from page at all
Worst usage of technology by educator ever 2016 award.
@mınxomaτ maybe moon >
00:39
@mınxomaτ pp
@AlexA. Hm?
> (E.g. >, >>>, moon> etc. pp)
moo?
> pp
Python uses >>> btw
00:39
>.<
p for "prompt"
I like moon>
Yeah, I think that's good enough. I was also considering moon ~>, where ~ would be a symbol to indicate the error state of the last command (like in zsh powerline)
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)>
3
Wow, the Lenny face looked a lot better in Safari than it does in Firefox
00:45
It looks pretty bad on chrome too...
@mınxomaτ You could change the character used for the eyes based on the error state
It looks really bad in the starboard (FF).
Terminal doesn't like it.
A colored moon>, perhaps?
@TuxCopter on your answer here you should make that change I poitned out
00:47
moon > is also nice
@DrMcMoylex :( why change avatar
old avatar was beautiful
@mınxomaτ Get a Lenny-compatible terminal
00:50
hahaha
@AlexA. That should be a table flip.
so who wants to write emojiscript with me
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)> normal prompt, (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻> error prompt
@Downgoat Dennis and irksterly begged me to
00:51
@DrMcMoylex D:
@DrMcMoylex The problem seems to be related to reading the input file. tio.run/nexus/v#@3@44fDKssOb4nIiC4wq7A5vAvI3pvz//9/8vxEA works just fine.
Pasting that lenny face completely messed up my zsh history.
@Downgoat guilty as charged
@Dennis feature request: you should increase the width of the language bars because some languages have decently long names
@Dennis yeah that would make sense Try It Online!
How are you calling it?
@DrMcMoylex python2 path/main.py --hexdump -u -f .input.tio code.tio <user arguments>
@Dennis can you take a look at something for me with the Nexus?
@ConorO'Brien That's v2. I'm currently working on tio.run/nexus.
oh wait nevermind it's not doing it anymore
00:56
@GabrielBenamy Sure, what is it?
@Dennis oh ok. notwithstanding tho :P
Earlier today, I ran a program that printed correctly for the range 1 to 100, but for 1 to 105, it only printed the first 104 outputs
@Dennis hmm... That looks right.
also, for the nexus, the character count of the textarea isn't shown on page load
@quartata you changed your avatar back!
I had 2 days ago but se was being weird
00:58
oh
In other news, I've started making demands:

in PPCG TF2 Server, 28 secs ago, by quartata
@Downgoat I will kill one goat per hour until you pull the chat relay
It didn't have to come to this
@ConorO'Brien Yeah, I'm not sure what happened. I guess I didn't save or something
I'm too lazy to make a Christmas avatar sadly
who needs to when you have HAAAAAAAAAAAAATS
WTF, why won't my phone connect to my pc?
The moderators have decided not to enable hats this year.
What??
01:00
wait really
I'm just fucking with you.
Damn. Fell for it.
I don't believe you
01:01
...
let's not go there
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
bad idea
sorry y'all >_<
@quartata WAT
01:06
@Downgoat Yes. I've entrusted it to my trusty lackey Laff-O-Tron
Brb calling hostage negotiator
Laff will announce the untimely deaths of the goats in the TF2 room every hour
Along with a eulogy
@Downgoat There isn't a whole lot to negotiate here
Please save the meat. We can go over to Marky's place for stew.
Oh, good idea.
@Geobits How is the old chap?
01:09
Yeah, haven't seen him around in a while.
He's just resting up. Nothing to worry about >_>
In other news, wtf PS3?
@Geobits can u make resting permanent >:) :P
I reserve the right to wake him up to harass and/or eat goats at any time.
speaking of which whatever happened with that ball of xkcd data I sent you
@Geobits 1180 minutes... have fun with that...
01:14
@quartata Uh, it's still in the ball. I definitely didn't forget all about it or anything.
@AlexA. -_-

@Dennis I've figured it out. If you pull V it should (probably) work now.
01:30
@AlexA. About five minutes later it changed to "Approx 8 minutes left" and hasn't moved from that since. I'm not sure which lie I prefer.
@Geobits That's why testing is important
What makes you think it wasn't tested and approved this way? :P
01:58
@Geobits I see
Well I'm guessing since you haven't forgotten about it that you are probably working rapidly on bringing about xkcd marky to the world
@Downgoat 10 minutes to the first sacrifice I believe
owell
Uh, well, actually right now I'm cursing my playstation.
Why don't you just give in and pull it it's not like it will take you longer than 10 minutes
I already tested everything
I don't even care if you install the plugins or the MOTD at this point
@Geobits Oh boy
@Downgoat Which version of Node do you have?
v7 on laptop and LCS on server
02:04
Wait, v7 is a thing?
I thought v5 was the latest
I was gonna ask you to test the latest commit of Crayon, cause I re-added babel but I only have v7, and I'd like it tested in the older versions
Maybe v4 is still hiding on my hard drive
v5 was the latest when I checked 6 months ago, it can't be that old...
Yeah, v7's only been out for a month or so
in PPCG TF2 Server, 3 mins ago, by Laff-O-Tron
Goat #1 has been sacrificed
@Downgoat
speaking of goats. One of my teachers told us she ate chevon. That teacher is going to be a teacher for much longer... >:)
02:09
okay I give up, I can't shorten my code anywhere
I better move this to C9 so that it keeps running
@ETHproductions btw you should use my optimization plugin :D
Ahahaha, yes I saw that last night
I don't even know if I'm using map anywhere though
i did a search in your code, you are :)
Ah, there's one line that uses it
02:12
@orlp I AM PANICKING HALP
"don't panic" is most effective way to start panic
nvm I'm dumb
@DrMcMoylex Indeed. \o/ So did v1 and Nexus run different versions of V?
@Downgoat It didn't seem to change that one line
wait what
02:14
Here, I'll make a new file with just a .map and see what happens
Sup folks
did you put in plugins section instead of like presets section by accident
@Zizouz212 .o/ hai
welcome to TNB where your local pichu is on a goat genocide streak
I think I may have done that, lemme see
In the time it took you to compose that sentence you could have pulled the relay
Welcome to TNB where the puns are made up and the stars don't matter.
02:16
Local Pichu?
You know what they say: if at first you don't succeed, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
@Zizouz212 @ArtOfCode How do I force Chatexchange to get rid of everything queued and log out
@Downgoat Hey look, now it works :D
:D \o/
Let me test the code now to see if it actually works in real life
02:20
One goat is hardly what I'd call a genocide streak. More like a warning shot.
@Geobits I once reinstalled an OS and the installer said "less than 1 minute remaining" for 10 hours
Oh but there's more on the way
Nothing went terribly wrong, so that's a good sine
> good sine
@quartata have laff-o-tron pick and post a random video from these goat sacrifice videos (pretty nsfw in terms of gore)
02:23
@AlexA. I typed that accidentally but decided to leave it to see what the reaction would be
@quartata Yep. So the first is just showing you're serious :P
Hey look, it's the Cat in the Hat
@AlexA. Yeah, it's at "5 left" now, along with about a third of the progress bar filled. Been that way for about half an hour now.
@Geobits 5 arbitrary units :P
5 mortal lifespans
02:25
5 years it would seem :P
ninja'death
Maybe "mins" stands for "minutely observable slices of time when presented on the cosmic scale" instead of "minutes". That's what I get for assuming.
Then again, it does say "Approx", so maybe it just rounds weird.
When I was in elementary school I didn't give a shit about learning how to multiply decimals, so on a test I just multiplied integer portions and wrote "approx" next to every answer.
@Maltysen do that and laff can enjoy a nice long kickban from TF2 room and me changing my mind about eventually pulling tf2goat
@Downgoat Yeah I'm not that mean. I mean these are just virtual goats
But seriously pull it now and fix the me field. It's causing a lot of issues
02:31
Oh, they're just virtual? Uh, I mean, umm, yeah. So were all those others. Virtual. Yeah.
The TF room is getting spammed because I wasn't clearing the message queue
I wouldn't be bugging you about it if it was minor.
@Dennis Yay! I'm not sure why it works on v1. It was an issue with running outside of the V directory
@quartata okay pulled
Pull ChatExchange Source Python too.
*please
02:33
Also, this is golfer. :)
@AlexA. Sorry. I'm just grumpy because I've been asking for 5 days
The salt is real
@DrMcMoylex o_O v1 does that too.
Does what?
cd V?
Run outside the directory.
Anyway, the important thing is that it works now.
02:36
Oh. Do you use an absolute path for the input file?
@quartata done
do u need reload
considering i have finish classes in cheddar for most part.. i should convince CS teacher to accept Cheddar :D
Is there anyone on?
@DrMcMoylex Not on Nexus. I think I do on v1, but I tried that on Nexus too iirc.
Restart the server if not.
If so, there won't be while you're restarting anyway ;)
02:40
@Downgot Did you change me in the JSON
@quartata ok doine
@quartata no
Change it to TF2goat's chat ID. It's incorrect currently
That should be everything. If you're feeling extra merciful you could do the MOTD the two plugins and the cvars

@NewMainPosts This could be clearer. Won't hammer though.
02:59
what would you call the operation of taking a string (say, "asdf") and yielding "asdfdsa"
I don't know that it has a rigorously defined name, but I'd call it "mirroring."
Jelly calls it bouncing
bouncing! I knew it was b
I thought it was bubbling :P
do we/should we have a challenge for that?
@ConorO'Brien yeah, jelly won with its builtin
oh, cool
03:11
We do. Palindromizing or something.
I doubt that, single 05AB1E has a one-byte built-in.

@Geobits but this guy was good enough to at least make it technically on-topic for PPCG (remotely interesting, on the other hand...)
Yeah, I didn't VTC or anything, but I'm not going to be answering lol
We should have the only answers be in golfing languages
he didn't even give an example of a csv
Eh, despite the name, CSVs can have non-comma separators. It's dumb, but...

This smells like homework... — Mego 2 mins ago
I wouldn't even say homework. Sounds more like actual work-work to me. Some junior programmer got hit with a bucketful of old crap data that needs fixing or something.
Anonymous
Maybe we should just have an unspoken community rule that we don't post solutions for homework-y questions. They're not off-topic (unless they have other issues), but we can discourage them by just not answering.
well it's being downvoted into oblivion
03:43
Huh, this user has gotten that comment before, and it was even on a CSV-related question:
