Anyone here messed with Machine Learning?
I have a dataset, basically around 100k images created by a captcha script, and I'm not sure if splitting them to each character or directly naming them would be better for training.
@Geobits made marky, he might be able to help
hey @Randal'Thor, what brings you here?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I was looking for @Geobits, but seems he's not around just now.
@Randal'Thor oh hey @Randal'Thor
00:35
I have a query on Python exe's...
Does anyone know about argparse here?
Woo-hoo, vim is beating retina now!
@arda Hi hi :-)
... OK? I feel like I've been getting more random stars lately
6
it was a misclick, and I'm too lazy to fix
Lol, alrighty then
00:41
If you turn a python file into an exe using something like py2exe
And the python file has argparse arguments
So like python derp.py --foo "string"
Will it become derp --foo "string" in the exe?
Or is it still python derp.py --foo "string"?
@Randal'Thor What's up?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ What do you mean
> Will it become derp --foo "string" in the exe?
in what exe
In derp.exe (the derp.py file -> exe form)
00:45
@Geobits Oh hi! Just wanted to let you know that I've been inspired by your awesome Puzzling answer to post one of my own on a similar puzzle today :-)
I did the link wrong at first. Fixed now.
You clicked too quick :-P
@Randal'Thor Ha, nice. I still find it hard to believe mine got voted up so much. Being bored at work pays off sometimes, I guess.
00:50
@Geobits Your answer was what first brought me to Puzzling, so it's nice to create my own little tribute to it :-)

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ it redirects to google play

Dear GHCQ + NSA workers,

Please apply to become a PPCG mole.

Thank you!
@Downgoat else will run if the for loop wasn't abruptly ended (with break). Very useful and intuitive.
@mınxomaτ Have you scanned the NSA/GHCQ or is that illegal?
If you say "NDA" I'll assume yes.
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC no it doesn't
it redirects to a virus giving site >_>
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ just search "my first cavity search" and click "shopping"

that sounds like an awful idea

Can you give me a path of the goat silhouette? I did my own from the raster version but the resulting polygon wasn't quite right since some points were out of order

this one
@Downgoat mind if I bring a friend by to teach him tf2?
I trust him, he isn't going to share the password or anything
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Just out of curiosity how long ago did that map change occur?

@Maltysen i don't think its a great idea to write the entire challenge in smallcaps, since many devices aren't able to render a wide range of small-caps characters
@quartata whyyy

btw, anyone know shortest retina code to reverse a string?
@Dennis I don't know if people have already asked you this but will you add JS ES6 to TIO v2 (i.e. babel-node)?
@Downgoat Can you get the path of the goat silhouette from the SVG of your avatar for me?
@Downgoat Is babel-node different from regular node?
@Dennis Wait did that get posted to main?
@Dennis babel-node runs code through babel and therefore supports full ES6. Node support is getting better but is still eh :/
@quartata yes, will do rn
@Geobits No. In that case, I could have downvoted more than once.
03:30
@Dennis Babel is a transpiler from ES6 to ES5. It's needed for proper ES6 support
Oh ok. My work is done for now then.
@Downgoat Sure. As long as it requires a reasonable amount of effort.
one thing: make sure to A) not install node through nvm B) do NOT chmod -R 777 /usr/bin

chmod -R 777 /usr/bin? Yeah, that's not happening.

Wanna know how I got here? NPM wasn't installing packages in correct dir so without thinking I did what an SO answer proposed and did chown vihan:vihan /usr/bin
another SO answer was stupid and told to do chmod -R 777 /usr/bin and yea
i really goated things up
Uh, but that's not even remotely the same thing. chown vihan:vihan /usr/bin would be easy to reverse.
not exactly
you need sudo to un chown it
owait
wat
im not sure how i messed myself up so badly
goat is professional idiot
btw, today i won hackathon :D
You don't need sudo if you boot in rescue mode or from a thumb drive.
03:47
i did boot in rescue mode but because i had to mount the disk sudo was not able to load its object files
Rescue mode implies logging in as root, and root doesn't require sudo.
oh
root login was disabled over ssh
and DO terminal logged my in as vihan
su command is in /usr/bin and borked beacuse of chmod/own
Oh, it was a VM/VPS.
DO allows root logins from terminal though. You just have to reset the root password.
i did
Recently went through this because I did something similarly clever.
03:50
but it still didn't work for some reason
i reset root password did all the weird stuff got recovery thing mounted
everything bork at end so i just copy files to new debian VM

Q: Comment-free polyglot with different, nontrivial, behaviour per language

ais523This challenge is inspired by this other challenge, which you may want to read first for some context. However, a competitive answer is likely to look very different, so after reading some posts on Meta I decided it was best posted as a separate question. The goal here is to write a polyglot pro...

@AlexA. Congrats!
Thanks :)
It's not as exciting as it sounds, tbh. I was mostly assisting one of the Julia founders with the workshop rather than being the primary presenter.
@NewMainPosts I need to sleep so I'm not going to write up the apparent contradictions in this. For now I've just voted to close as unclear
04:16
@Downgoat Set up FastDL? printf sent it to you in a gist
verify the checksums then do the config things mentioned
@trichoplax It seems unclear from the title, but the spec itself is pretty detailed, I thought. My top two concerns about it are 1) it's a "Do X without Y" challenge and 2) it looks very difficult to write an answer that fully complies with spec.
@AlexA. Still you got to meet one of the Julia folk which is pretty damn cool

Would a "proper" language with readable syntax that's based on sequences be a good idea?
04:25
What do you mean by "based on sequences"?
wat
wat
I was reading something on a british software development forum that had an automatic censoring wordfilter.

The text "de******" was seen often.
Judging by the sample I saw I think a lot of what you want already exists in the form of pattern matching in functional languages
@DLosc You know Oasis right?
No, I've never looked at it.
04:26
Same premise of "based on sequences", but with readable syntax and stuff
The British band?
(By Adnan)
Uhhh it's the same premise (based on sequences), but with extra stuff
@Qwerp-Derp Hm. Well, I don't know how useful it would be, but if you'd have fun implementing it, I say go ahead.
seq Fib(n): {
    n = 0: 0;
    n = 1: 1;
    Fib(n - 1) + Fib(n - 2)
}
out sum([for x in [0..10]: Fib(x)])
Maybe something like this?
04:32
"Would I have fun implementing this?" is always the most important question to ask oneself when creating a language. :)
Outputs the sum of the first 9 fibonacci numbers
I would have fun, definitely, but I have no idea where to start
It seems like a pretty big project
I mean, this sort of case-based recursive definition is something you can do in Haskell, e.g.
You guys can kinda see the structure of the language here, right?
@Qwerp-Derp Define the syntax, how you want it to look and behave, how to handle weird corner cases. Then look into either writing a parser or using a parser generator.
If you keep the grammar relatively simple, using a lexer/parser generator could be a nice way to get going faster.

> Deleting any non-whitespace character from your program must cause it to fail to function in every language. Your program may not read its own source.
I tried to be as general with respect to language features as I could
the "may not read its own source" is a standard restriction on quines; I thought of defining that further but assumed it was well known
Anonymous
What about languages where whitespace is significant? Shouldn't the whitespace count then?
Anonymous
> The program must not use any language features that were intended for the purpose of discovering which language or language version is in use.
Anonymous
Whether or not a language feature is "intended" for discovering the language and/or version can be debated. Intention isn't a good metric.
@flawr Why, do you have any symptoms? :-)
Anonymous
04:59
What happens if two solutions achieve the same score? What's the tiebreaker?
languages where the syntax is based on whitespace tend to have non-whitespace as comments
