There are no real measures to prevent overload except paying for a better server.

@LeakyNun Done.

@TimmyD alright

@Dennis Or you can get people to rent a server to Try it online!. :3

@Dennis Could the server be refreshed every so often? Or having all processes that run longer than, say, 10 minutes, close automatically?
I may be talking nonsense here. I'm not too familiar with how servers are run

Backend processes should actually close after 1 minute, but that fails sometimes.
I'll have to figure out why.

@Dennis do you want your plan or my plan? :3
@TùxCräftîñg My first naa flag :D

me too

So, as ppcg.lol redirects here, I was wondering if there is anything similar for Meta.
Yeah, I meant PPCG Meta
I wanted to link Sandbox posts similarly

ah k
so meta.ppcg.lol

@Dennis Hey that reminds me. Is V still losing nvim child processes? I need to look into that more.

3:06 PM
Thanks

So does anyone know why the following Ruby code slows down a lot? It's for my queen spiral challenge
q=->a,b{m=([a,b].max**0.5).to_i+1;d=(1..m).map{[0]*m};c=0;e=[c];t=[a]
(m*m).times{|k|d[c.real][c.imag]=k+1;e<<c;c+=1i**((4*k+1)**0.5-1).to_i}
z=e[a]-e[b];x,y=z.real,z.imag
(x+=x<0?1:x>0?-1:0;y+=x<0?1:x>0?-1:0;t<<d[e[b].real+x][e[b].imag+y])while(x+y*1i).abs>0;t}

q[1,3]

@Dennis please do! I would love to help.

3:08 PM
@Dennis As soon as I can figure out PayPal again, I'll get right on that

@Dennis Can I send bitcoins?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan A few, yeah. But I'll have to solve this issue on the server side anyway. V is not the only one.
@Adnan Adding a BTC option would be by far the easiest way.

@Lynn @DrGreenEggsandIronMan I'm pushing docs right now.

Neat!

They aren't quite finished yet but it should help out a lot
I also made a compression script

3:10 PM
@Dennis Well, I'm pretty sure I know what's causing the issue. I'd like to fix it for my end locally also.

@Sherlock9 Major edit done.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Of course. It's not like that should happen. I still need a failsafe for TIO though.

@ASCIIThenANSI basically yes

@Dennis what do you use to kill processes on TIO? (so I can test it locally)

@Dennis Can you pull CG?

@mınxomaτ I wonder if there's a term for that.

@quartata use double backtick or triple backtick

I know

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan timeout 60s Quite frankly, I'm not certain what it does.

3:39 PM
Hmm, I have a leading backtick though

@LeakyNun I edited again

Ugh

@Sherlock9 nice

OK, fixed a typo and the formatting errors
@Lynn @DrGreenEggsandIronMan Might want to refresh, don't know if it updates automatically

That's the scientific term for this phenomenon.

3:44 PM
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN is the scientific term? Interesting....

@quartata The image is fine.

@LeakyNun I think there's LaTeX support on SE

@Sherlock9 Only Math SE and MathOverflow I believe. We used to have it but we got rid of it due to bugs

@TùxCräftîñg It's just the same subpar overused meme

Bereft of life

@quartata Why, is the image cursed or something? In that case I probably need to move.

@ASCIIThenANSI It's not an image. It's just dumb

@quartata facepalm I thought you meant the "this area in particular" storm image that someone here couldn't see due to an error
Because my internet cut out and I didn't scroll up to see what happened

4:11 PM
@LeakyNun It may be remade into a challenge, if we have OWC.

@BusinessCat HTML + CSS is Turing complete, so it qualifies as a prohramming language and then some. If you actually use the CSS part, that should be fine. Plain HTML answers to Kolmogorov complexity challenges are allowed as well, but utterly boring (my opinion).

@Dennis well, that's what the close vote says...

@Dennis HTML+CSS is Turing-complete so long as Turing is clicking buttons making the program go. ;-)

4:15 PM
Isn't it Turing complete because you can simulate GoL?

@BusinessCat Game of Life has no confirmed Turing completeness.

@BusinessCat I think it's Rule 110, not GoL, but yeah. Provided that you've got user interaction to iterate the automata to the next state.

@Dennis I think this is all right but we're going to have to be really careful that things like "rm -rf / crash bash hue hue" don't happen
I always feel like the "crash your compiler" challenges attract that sort of trash.

4:50 PM
That's why I think adding a disclaimer should be required.

btw rm -rf / can brick your computer if your efi firmware isn't good

rm refuse to run rm -rf /

@TùxCräftîñg it does.
@TùxCräftîñg it wants --no-preserve-root

@Dennis That would be good
(rm -rf / doesn't actually crash bash in any way. It was just an example of the usual bullshit we see on some of these challenges)

I'm serious by the way. If your EFI firmware is shitty "rm -rf / --no-preserve-root" will brick your computer.

I don't use a tiling WM so it's useful to me

@TùxCräftîñg i have 321 lol

@quartata I used to feel that way, but once I started tracking my dotfiles I got over it.

@quartata me too , so i hate vi ...

@GLASSIC It helps that vim was my first editor

same thing when coding in Jelly

@βετѧΛєҫαγ okay

5:23 PM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan It isn't. This is the wrapper I use.

shift

HOME=. sudo -u tio V=/opt/V timeout 60s /opt/mbox/bin/mbox -ino /dev/null -- python2 /opt/V/main.py --safe "$code" -u -f "$input" -- "$@"
If you want to add any flags, let me know.

Can a flag be added iff the debug button is checked?
I'd like to add a hexdump

That's not possible right now. But if you send the hexdump to STDERR, it will be hidden with Debug unchecked.

@flawr Yeah, I saw that in my subscriptions! Gonna watch it in a bit.

the worst sandbox post is about writing the worst hello world

One even fell from Heaven for you!

I use subtitles in almost all games I play.

@quartata Same, if the game supports it.

My mother is hard of hearing so I grew up watching movies/TV with subtitles. It feels really weird to watch things without it.

Haha, I can imagine.

5:33 PM
I always thought that why some one should use slowish java with all that syntax headaches and jvm troubles (though it's not that bad) ... until i saw Minecraft ...

I think the same sort of thing happened to my mom (while I was still living at home with them).

@quartata Same. Mainly because I can read it faster than they say it

@GLASSIC Minecraft is written in Java for cross-platformness

@BusinessCat Sometimes it's an issue when subtitles spoil a surprise of some sort.

That's true

5:34 PM
@El'endiaStarman like been anihilated by a ninja creeper?

@TùxCräftîñg are you sure ? i thought it's because the owner used to be a java programmer in a bunch of companies ...

@TùxCräftîñg You have made me remember those times I played Minecraft with the sound off

@BusinessCat so tru :/

The only game I actually don't play with subtitles is TF2 because the sounds are so distinctive I can pick them out almost immediately

5:39 PM
i always used subtitles to find nearby mobs and generated structures . when there is something about silverfish , it (most of the time) means that i've found a stronghold

I'm actually upset if the game doesn't at least allow for subtitles during cutscenes. In a lot of cases, I won't even play the game if that's the situation.

@NinjaBearMonkey congrats on 7k

5:44 PM
@El'endiaStarman I knew it for years , but in total i haven't played more than 1 year because of school . now i have gave it up ...

I was asking because subtitles are a relatively new thing in Minecraft.

@El'endiaStarman by new i think you are a 4 years fan ... aren't you ?

@GLASSIC I've used that in some other games. It's saved me a couple of times.

Hmm, actually, three years. My then-girlfriend got it for me as a birthday present, I think.

i have a koth idea

@El'endiaStarman i wish if my girl friend had bought it for me before ... but unfortunatly i don't have a girl friend !!!

a tic-tac-toe

@TùxCräftîñg whats "koth idea" ?

bah a tic-tac-toe

@TùxCräftîñg Interesting. Although you may want to have some variant so it's not easy to beat

5:50 PM
...you do know that Tic-Tac-Toe is solved, right? Perfect play by both sides is easy and leads to a draw.

so on a larger grid

In tic-tac-toe there is a first move which guarantees you the win.
You could do Extreme tic-tac-toe, or whatever it's called

win or draw
assuming perfect play

Where there's a 3x3 grid of tic-tac-toe boards

@TùxCräftîñg 3D Tic-Tac-Toe is a fun variant, but I think I saw that one on PPCG a while ago.
You'd have to look.

5:51 PM
3d tic tac toe is a better idea

@BusinessCat That was the one I saw. Meta-Tic-Tac-Toe

@RohanJhunjhunwala Go for it -- 99% of what I do on the Internet is CC-BY-NC-SA
