Actually, you can, but you'd have to calculate pi to arbitrary precision first, then get the continued fraction, then get the fractional approximations.
@Sp3000 Hmm. I'm leaning against forbidding use of the example continued fraction in languages that can calculate pi to sufficient precision.
I just think it'd be longer to do it that way.

Forbidding it fits better with the spirit of the challenge, which is to calculate pi from scratch.

No, I just genuinely think that the standard continued fraction should be banned. So I wouldn't have used it anyway (and it wouldn't have been any shorter)
