Allllll right.

BelfieldTask The user inputs a sentence. The output has a pattern, where some words are reversed and others words are normal. All I've got left is adding an examples drop-down.

10:03 PM
Whoop whoop!

@NewMainPosts Interesting. It doesn't show the "[on hold]" bit.
By the way, VTC, did you see my "context aware" link earlier?

@El'endiaStarman Fastest holder in the west

I don't think I did...

My Minkolang online interpreter is now CONTEXT AWARE!!‌! MUAHAHAHAAA!!!

I don't get it

10:07 PM
Booo~ Spooky Alien.
Aka, I'm here.

o> quack

@quartata The interpreter knows when 1 is pushing a 1 onto the stack and when it's part of a number literal.
Same goes for string literals.

Ah I see

It also knows the difference between opening and closing quotes (of either kind). :D

> ...I'm... I'm beating CJam! (shouts over) Mom! Look, ma, I deed it!

A question to native american-english speakers:

@isaacg Just to let you know: I was annoyed at Pyth's lack of a REPL: so I wrote my own (it's just a tiny wrapper script over pyth.py).

@flawr I learned both my languages at the same time...?

I learned to spell 'z' as 'dsed' but when I was in the USA people did not understand, that pronounced it as 'see', is that like that throughout the USA?
And how then do you discriminate 'z' from 'c' when spelling those letters out?

Depends.

10:15 PM
@flawr I've heard one other person say it that way. "see" is definitely the main pronunciation.
@flawr Well, context, mostly. Far more words have c than z, and there is a subtle difference in pronunciation.
It's like a quiet, subtle version of the sound you make when saying "buzzzzz".

@quartata This is amazing. XD

@Doorknob Pyth code cannot be given on STDIN. There is no repl.

@El'endiaStarman Thanks for the explanation!

@isaacg Why doesn't it support STDIN? Most languages do.

Welcome. :)

10:18 PM
@Doorknob Historical reasons. I'm working on redoing the command line arguments et al now anyways, so I can add that.

I meant to type in Skype, but put in ske in spotlight, and this came up...?

Turd. Sounds about right!
;)

A very accurate description of your current OS. ;)

10:25 PM
@quartata The .com TLD is meant for businesses, .org for non-profit organisations, and .net for ISPs etc. Do any of the registrars give two brass farthings?

@flawr Well, you're not a native speaker... :)

@flawr Phonetics are correctly like this - Z = tsee (pronounce the t slightly), C = see, no t.

I've heard that it's pretty common for foreigners to be literally unable to hear differences between certain sounds.

It's easier to learn if you consider Z as tsee.

@PeterTaylor Someone needs to buy a .org domain, fill it with ads, and write "I AM MAKING MONEY FROM THIS SITE" in huge bold letters.

10:26 PM
Well I am still gonna say 'zed' for 'z' because thats just the only way I can distinguish them.

That's also an option. :P

And most of the time when I am talking in english I'm not talking to english native speakers anyway=)

Many Americans would likely look at you weird, and then catch on quickly. :P

Well thats what happened^^ (except they didn't catch on so quickly=)

10:28 PM
But this was really something we were never taught here...

Well, depends on their exposure to the idea/sound, I guess...

People also told me that I do pronounce w and v the same (as in 'weld' and 'veil').

You want to see how people react when you start talking about Zed Zed Top.
4

@AlexA. Just curious, how many pages of stars do you have...?

Then I was the one looking at them weird.

10:29 PM
@flawr HOW can you say them the same?!?
:P

Because German Deutsch and French français!

A w is a soft sound, a v is a hard one.

v is a soft consonant. o-o It's a darker f sound.

Lol, +star for using the languages' names for themselves. :P

But this is also something nobody ever taugh me, despite having about 7 years of mandatory english courses!!!!

10:31 PM
Hard consonants would have to use the tongue or lips to restrict airflow momentarily, such as t.

@VoteToClose Well, I meant it in the sense that a "w" doesn't have the vibration that "v" does.
@flawr Heh heh. Something you're expected to pick up from immersion, I guess...

That is when it is too late...

lol, true
By the way, when you say "treasure", for the "zur" sound in the middle, is your tongue up near the roof of your mouth or down flat?

Haha, and the american friends I was visiting never corrected me because they liked how funny my accent sounds.

@VTC you can answer that question too.

10:33 PM
@El'endiaStarman Down flat, at least as far as I can tell by trying it out :DD

@El'endiaStarman I don't get this Ping - and what?

By the way, when you say "treasure", for the "zur" sound in the middle, is your tongue up near the roof of your mouth or down flat?

@El'endiaStarman Mine is up, but I'm not a native speaker.

@El'endiaStarman Midway.

10:34 PM
@El'endiaStarman I cannot really tell, I think the tip lifts up a bit, but does not really touch the roof?

I ask because I've said it "wrong" pretty much all my life. The tip of my tongue is near the front ridge of the roof of my mouth. Took my mom (a speech language pathologist) many years to notice. :P
I cannot say it the way most Americans do.

I think for me it is about the same as the 'sh' in like 'mash'

But I fudge the sound really well... :P
@flawr My tongue is definitely down for that.

Well, I have to be satisfied when people do understand what I am trying to say, perfection is impossible=)

hehe, indeed :)

10:38 PM
At least my accent is not as obvious, as e.g. germans or frenchies trying to speak english...

And a theme I've seen is that foreign speakers often speak better (i.e., more properly) than natives. The reason being that natives are very used to the language and get lazy. :P

I often enjoy their HNQ questions.

I am 11 rep away from mortar boarding. XD

Well this is something I just noticed recently: As a swiss-german speaker when speaking german, I unconsciously try to speak in whole sentences with correct structure etc, because that is just about how swiss people usually use german, as written text.

10:41 PM
Oh hey @VTC, where are you from? That'd give some insight into regional dialectal differences.

@flawr This is what I do with English.

:OOO I know how to do silent pings now.

Well, not really.
'cause it failed. :P

If you ping me it will be a silent ping...the sound seems to be broken.

10:42 PM
@feersum test

I'm from Texas, but I've lived longer in England. I have no accent.

Silent as expected.

Hmm.

@feersum And that's a bummer. On the plus side, you can be more productive since no one can get your attention while you're away from the room... :P
@VoteToClose ahh, interesting

Oh, my god. XD That threw a "This may be a phishing site" warning.

10:46 PM
This should be a silent ping.

@El'endiaStarman I'm stalking you on your website right now=)

Lol, my silent ping actually worked.

I suggest adding 'insignificant programs' to your resumee.

:o Pietu, show me your ways.

Good job @Pietu1998! :)
@flawr ....INSIGNIFICANT?!?

10:48 PM
So basically you can do silent pings by putting the following code inside your message: [‍](http://@UserToPing/) where the entity must be the actual character.

Almost, but no.

@El'endiaStarman Well if you alread have a section significant programs there should aslo be one with insignificant programs =)

Well, that didn't work. :P⁣⁣⁣⁣

Here's how I did it.

10:49 PM
@flawr ...........hmm.....you have a point... :(
:P
I dunno what that is. :P

Explosion.

....oooh.
☼☼☼

So may I ask you, are you still at an uni or do you have a job?

Graduated last May, still looking for a job. :(

Is it possible to get a job with a bachelor's degree? (That is what you've got, right?)

10:52 PM
Absolutely.
My main problem right now is that I don't have experience that a LOT of companies are looking for.

Because you cannot get a job because you do not have any experience because you cannot get a job because you do not have any experience because...

It's frustrating, really. Considering that I just graduated, you would think my lack of experience is totally understandable, and that, if anything, the amount and quality of stuff I've produced in 8 years of programming should be good indicators of my skill...

Yeah, I mean your website is quite impressive.

thanks :)

Like this?

10:55 PM
But on the other hand here it is almost impossible to get a job without a masters degree (at least if you are studying a science subject).

huh, wow

There we go.

Well CS is perhaps an exception, because they are currently needed everywhere.

Apparently. :P

I had to apply Unicode Hex input.

10:55 PM
Yup, that's the trick. :)

Really? [](http://@Vot)

Use the unicode hex input 200b.
For the [] bit.

@Calvin'sHobbies lel you did it wrong

Something is broken

@Calvin'sHobbies 11
@Pietu1998 Nope

10:58 PM
I believe you aren't supposed to reply to 2 future messages.

@PeterTaylor I don't know where to even get a tatar domain though

@VoteToClose I'm sure I've done it without that

I think .at would probably be better anyways
I'm not sure I like the stray r

@quartata Did someone say Tatar?

@AlexA. Yes

11:00 PM
Are you Tatar?
You want some kind of Tatar website?

No

My grandpa could hook you up. His English is terrible and he doesn't understand computers.
Oh

Didn't we recently have a discussion about Tatar/tartare?

I was thinking about quar.tatar

Why .tatar?

11:01 PM
Test [][http://@quartata.com]

@Calvin'sHobbies Is there really a toot.com?

@AlexA. Closest thing to quartata

@AlexA. probably

@flawr So gross holy fack

11:01 PM
@flawr yum

@quartata There isn't a .tata?
@quartata Or even a .ta so you could do quarta.ta?

[](http://@AlexA.) hmm

You aren't doing stealth pings correctly, FYI.

I've done them before ;_;

Right, but it isn't working.

11:03 PM
You shouldn't need special charcters

But you do.

hmm

Hmm?

Hmmm! Fail.

@flawr The leading space is visible. I recommend putting the ping at the end. ;)

11:04 PM
The space is not visible.
Spaces are never visible.

HMMMMMM

Because nothing is there to be visible.

I see space and time.

GET IT?

Yes

11:05 PM
I'm just used to using ZWJ for these things. It's nice because programs treat it as non-whitespace.

YOU SEE ABOUT AS MUCH AS JON SNOW KNOWS!

@Pietu1998 ZW...J?

@AlexA. ‍

Zero Width Joiner

Oh. I know it as a zero width space.

11:06 PM
Stop it[](http://@Alex)
wtf, I know I've done it without zwsp!
Did they fix it?

I've never been able to do it without a zero width space.

No.

You can do it on punctuation, which is less obvious but is still more obvious than with a ZWSP.

Stop it`

Stop what?

11:08 PM
I see that accent. ;)

What is this thing called anyway?

´'`

I'm unsure whether or not ZWSP works. ZWJ does.

...that totally didn't work. :P

11:09 PM
@flawr Stealth ping?

Use Unicode Hex Input 200b.

@Pietu1998 ?

Nope those `´

0x200B?

Interesting.
I have such a character on my clipboard. :P

11:10 PM
It's not that interesting, really.

I was just trying to get ‍ to work.

SE is in the process of changing the way chat pinging works.

right
I wondered if that was why.

It hasn't gone live yet.

11:39 PM
The olive branch is usually a symbol of peace or victory and was historically worn by brides and virgins. This symbol, deriving from the customs of Ancient Greece, is strongest in Western culture. However, it has been found in every culture and religion to thrive in the Mediterranean basin. == Ancient Greece and Rome == In Greek mythology, Athena competed with Poseidon for possession of Athens. Poseidon claimed possession by thrusting his trident into the Acropolis, where a well of sea-water gushed out. Athena took possession by planting the first olive tree beside the well. The court of gods...
