A: List of bounties with no deadline

HyperNeutrino100 rep for a linear solution to this This challenge, the perfect-palindromes challenge, has a straightforward solution, which is to partition the array into all possible, filter, and find the shortest one. However, this one is O(n!) (correct if necessary). I, Hyper Neutrino, will be awarding a ...

Adam MendenhallThe infinity symbol is also called a lemnescate. Your program must draw a lemnescate with text via standard out (formatted with newline feeds) or graphically. 12:46 AM
Is there a word for raising to the 4th power? i.e. squared, cubed, ...?

@NewMainPosts VTC, off-topic, no objective winning criterion.

@HelkaHomba Hyper-cubed...
JK, I have no idea

Also possible unclear but that's more subjective.
According to some internet people in ^ there isn't one.

@Phoenix you're kidding, right? that's a little harsh. You could, idk, tell the user, like totallyhuman

I also think it's a bad and poorly specified challenge.

12:50 AM
@HelkaHomba tesseracted? :P

ಠ_ಠ

@Phoenix It's bad, but not poorly specified, except for maybe the last sentence

 o o
o o o
 o o
Really.
That's a lemniscate.

Just to be clear, I voted to close

> The infinity symbol (by my standards) must be continuous (that is, every non-whitespace character must be touching two other non-whitespace characters diagonally or orthogonally). It must also have two and no more than two gaps of enclosed whitespace (connectivity for whitespace is only orthogonal). Thus, the following output fails:

12:53 AM
But I will retract on improvement

FWIW I like the idea of a challenge with multiple accepted outputs, since it gives more freedom and variety in answers; this particular challenge doesn't capitalize on this variety, since it will almost always be optimal to print he little hexascate

Don't flip out when I tell you my current download speed pls
I know speeds like this make people annoyed
2.8 KB/s

@Phoenix If you look at my python answer you will see there are better outputs one can choose than that.

@Christopher thanks for telling, I really wanted to know this for my notes

1:02 AM
Very useful for the upcoming exam

Yeah study up students. The exam is tomorrow

@Christopher I'm sorry for your loss

for the first time in my life adding a comment asking for an explanation of a downvote has removed the downvote. I can die happy now :P

Ye my bad lol

it's ok rofl

1:30 AM
@DJMcMayhem lol I read this and I'm like "ono what happen D:" because I assumed it was replying to something earlier than that xD

aw man i'm back to rep ending with a 9
can't i please always have it as a nice round number ;-;

I'll accept an answer of yours and downvote you 7 times if you want :P (jk)
hey I got "inquisitive"
yay

nice

took long enough
I've been at 29/30 for a long time xD
also I'm still mad about losing my Fanatic badge

it's only a 100 days...

1:38 AM
I was at 97/100 when I got my account deleted ><

Look on the bright side At least you have a goal you can get now

alright time to port the jelly answer over 'cause that question is empty af

@WheatWizard I devoted 97 days to it and they had to delete my account in the last few days ><
@totallyhuman which one

yours

@HyperNeutrino wait what did I miss ._.

1:39 AM
oh ok
@ConorO'Brien did you miss me getting my account deleted

I wasn't in this room for the past few days

that was june 20

Watch as they delete my account 2 days before I hit one year consecutive.

ooh partitions is gonna be tough one to golf

1:39 AM
oh, also, amateurs

@totallyhuman jelly builtins ftw

@HyperNeutrino cause that's the truth
@ConorO'Brien rip 37 days

@ConorO'Brien WTF WAT
@Riker lol xD

@Riker that was a power out in the freak storm on the east coast unfortunately

@Riker math ftw xD

1:41 AM

imma try to keep it going as long as a i can

@HyperNeutrino wait a minute... i could just liek copy the jelly interpreter's code over...

Two days away.

1:42 AM
and golf it

@Doorknob what stinks about that is that I'll basically be always behind you unless you mess up :P
although how cool is that, our site is so good people can't stay away from it :P

@totallyhuman lol true

@ConorO'Brien I did at one point when I had several hundred, which sucks because if I hadn't, it would be the one stat that I would be able to say I surpassed Dennis in. :P

I just used the :P emoticon twice and I really don't know why

@ConorO'Brien if there's something that I'm addicted to, it's PPCG.SE

1:44 AM
yeah well guess what :P i used it :P three whole :P times
@HyperNeutrino lol rip

@Doorknob how many consecutive days does dennis have?

880 i think

@ConorO'Brien 828

can mods check that on all other people

Anyone can check that on all other people.

1:45 AM
really? how?

Jun 1 at 1:15, by Dennis
I'd like to argue with you, but I'm at 781. >_>

@Doorknob Er, uh, wait, apparently that's not true. I tried in private browsing and I couldn't see mine.
I'm sure that used to be the case, though.

why should they hide that stat >.>
"oh no please don't look at me I'm addicted to this site"

I could see why some people would want to keep that hidden

everyone is, whether or not they'd like to admit it

1:46 AM
Though if they are hiding it they should keep the last seen hidden as well

i liek how i've been a user for 2 months :3

ideally you would have privacy settings where you could check these on and off.

MSE post time?
@Doorknob so just mods right

Apparently.

ooo
if they hide that they should also hide reputation because that way nobody can see how bad I am at PPCG :3

1:48 AM
Wait why would mods need to know that? If the information is private mods shouldn't be able to see it.

ok nvm i'm not trying to golf that
somebody else do the python answer
that's really the hard part
anyways gtg o/

@Doorknob which dark theme are you using?
also i lied about having to go :P

1:53 AM

will have to go in a few though, summer school
@Doorknob ooh nice thanks
does it co operate well with the userscript?

@Doorknob You're KeyboardFire?? You made hotdog.vim???
ಠ_ಠ

@totallyhuman I will warn you though, there's a few recent CSS updates and I haven't updated it in a bit, so there are some blinding blocks of white currently. I have been in a state of planning to fix those but never having gotten around to it for some time. :P

oh god i just looked it up

@totallyhuman Not sure which userscript you're referring to.

1:54 AM
what did you do?

@totallyhuman hotdog.vim, you mean?

@Doorknob the ppcg design userscript
@Phoenix yup

@Phoenix Uh, I, er, did what now? I have, umm, no idea what you're talking about... >_>

Hotdog.vim is the most awful thing to ever exist.

@totallyhuman I have no idea.

1:55 AM
@Phoenix yes

@totallyhuman userscript has a dark mode in the options
CMC: golf the following code in english language: "Unhealthy for sensitive groups"

@Downgoat is bork though

English, 4 bytes: NSFW

10/10

@totallyhuman @ASCII-only can you investigate

1:58 AM
OW MY EYES (sorry lol)

feature request: hotdog.vim but in the userscript

dear god no

@ConorO'Brien Dark mode basically already is hotdog.vim but in green.
Imagine someone smothered your hotdog in that green stuff they always have.

i'm currently going through the process of purging hotdog.vim from my browser

what is hotdog.vim

2:00 AM
oh you're in for a treat

Personally I prefer english quining. Qoute 'and then say it, after saying "Qoute".' and then say it, after saying 'Qoute'.

oh ow why did I look at that

@HyperNeutrino Literally the best color scheme you'll ever see.

I need to go wash my eyes

2:01 AM
@Phoenix pls remove onebox pls ;-;

ahhh, what beautiful art :P

@ATaco You misspelled Quote

> the subtle hints of red really add a sense of urgency to my editing, motivating me to complete my current project
> the subtle hints of red really add a sense of urgency to my editing, motivating me to complete my current project

'Eh.

> MY EYES

2:02 AM
English fork bomb: Repeat this task twice more

@Downgoat What does the BACKGROUND_COLOR option actually do

sets the real background color of the entire page IIRC

English self interpreter: Listen and do

ok now i really gtg don't make any horrific themes while i'm gone

o/ will be sure to make something so hideous that you'll wish you had no eyes

2:03 AM
Until asked to stop, listen and do.
Don't forget a way to terminate.

You also need to catch EOF

@DJMcMayhem Rip me

Keep trying until you fail, then do this again. = function f(){try{while(true)statement;}catch(e){f()}}
The english is golfier than the JS.
I could spend all day doing theoretical English coding
"Should be said twice" should be said twice. Golfier quine.

f=_=>{try{for(;;)s}catch(e){f()}}

2:07 AM
Yeah that'll do it.

hey if you like writing code in english you should check out ExtraC it's kinda like english + applescript

@DJMcMayhem just finished Dr. Strange. Look what it said at the end:

Twice say, "Twice say"

It's like English + Death

2:08 AM
Even better!

@Christopher no spoilers

@ConorO'Brien Not a spoiler. Hits close to home (totaled parents car today)

are you ok?? o_O

@ConorO'Brien Well yes, just go back a few pages

eh I'll take your word for it

Double, "Double" works, but may cause inconsistent output, as some may parse it as "Quadruple".

@ConorO'Brien I mean no, I have no arms and typing with my feet

Of course, Say this works, but that isn't technically a quine.

Well I am going to bed Cya

2:23 AM
why does this exist ;_; (cc @totallyhuman ^)

Is there a way to check if a pattern is matched in haskell?

case expr of
    pattern -> True
    _ -> False

Aw, thats really long

@HyperNeutrino is.. is that... hotdog.vim.... in SE?????

:3 yes

2:25 AM
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

It is long. Depending on the type you might be able to do something else.

I just want to check if a list is a singleton

@HyperNeutrino Does that affect the enire page or just the user card?

Just my flair lol

@WheatWizard (==1).length?

2:28 AM
Yeah, thats how I'm doing it. It just feels really long

I don't know
Do you need the singleton value as well?

No I don't

I have no idea then. I'm not very experienced with Haskell.

No problem, thanks for the help

You're welcome

2:40 AM
» typeof null
« "object"
Javascript why
TypeError: can't convert null to object
Javascript, why

null instanceof Object
false
Also, why is Object capitalized noramlly but lowercase when output by typeof

Constructors/functions/libraries use CamelCase, but types use camelCase

!(typeof null == "object" ^ null instanceof Object) should be true for any language with typeof and instanceof.

Apparently except JS.

@ConorO'Brien Doesn't work very well, but here you go

2:48 AM
s/null/anyValidSymbol

what if anyValidSymbol is "object"

@HyperNeutrino Screenshot please?

anyway gtg. you should all get the userscript xD
hold on getting SS first

@HyperNeutrino What difference would that make

@Phoenix none sorry I was being dumb

2:50 AM
HOW THE HELL DID YOU MAKE HOTDOG.VIM EVEN WORSE THAN IT ALREADY IS
2

I'm missing some CSS parts so it looks worse than it will when I'm done :3 xD
@Doorknob You'd love to see this when I'm done
anyway gtg, o/

Hmmm.... I wonder what it looks like when both that and the gradscript are on....
What are line numbers
user image
2
Mystery solved

Comments on this? Sandbox

I like all the freefloating red rectangles that don't line up with their corresponding elements.

@Phoenix Those are relative line numbers.
(Perhaps you knew that)

2:56 AM
I didn't
I don't like them
Why would anyone do that

I turn line numbers off, but my roommate likes the relative line numbers.

I mean, I suppose it is hotdog.vim

What's the point in absolute line numbers? At least relatives numbers mean you don't have to count.

line numbers are like syntax-highlighting, unnecessary frills that get in the way.

The only time I need any line numbers is when I'm looking at a stack trace and want to know where the error is.

2:58 AM
I just use a command to jump to the appropriate line

Shouldn't be using line numbers for that, just <num>G.

@Doorknob I didn't know that worked.

I don't want to look at line numbers all the time when they are only useful 2% of the time.

Also, I'm not always using Vim

@WheatWizard I use relative numbers all the time when I want a motion to go to a certain place and there's no better one.

2:59 AM
@WheatWizard Unnecessary? Maybe. Get in the way? Not really...

I only use vim for latex, and nano for everything else. I really like vim, I just write very slowly.

@Phoenix Sounds like you need to fix that. :P

I use Visual Studio Code with the Vim plugin most of the time.

(joking, of course, although it's certainly something you can do)

@Phoenix I like things to be very empty, I get claustrophopic when there is stuff everywhere on my screen

3:00 AM
Have you ever used Java or C#?
They are actually quite difficult to use without an IDE, especially with larger projects.

@Phoenix I wrote Java last summer as part of a legacy project at my lab. I do not like Java
I used nano for a while, but then switched to IntelliJ.
I don't actually like programming very much. I just like code-golf

Having auto-imports and auto-complete for foo.bar.baz.some.element.function() is a must for writing java

I hated that in the IDE. it drove me insane
I don't like the constantly resizing window always following my cursor

I like eclipse, personally.

Or the IDE writing stuff for me. I just want the keys I press to appear on the screen.

3:03 AM
@WheatWizard I assume that's because you didn't spend a lot of time writing Java code.

Having used vim for C, C++, Java, and (very briefly, fortunately) C#, I've never really felt like autocomplete would be particularly helpful.

Me neither, but now I use it far too much.

When writing Java using a nonIDE editor, I sometimes found myself alt-tabing to the documentation multiple times in one line in some cases.

I think that Java is probably best in an IDE, but that doesn't mean Java is good in an IDE

Do you think /anyone/ would have put the effort that I did into RProgN's classes if it weren't for auto-imports..?

3:05 AM
Should I be using size? length? length()?
@WheatWizard Well, yeah, C# improves on it in every conceivable way except portability.
And even the cross-platform support is good now.

I wrote a bunch of C# like 5 years ago, I don't remember liking it, but I can't say my opinion from 5 years ago is very valuable

I suppose it depends on what you're used to.
I used to write a lot of Java, and C# for me is like the best thing ever.
I could see why someone more familiar with a language like Ruby wouldn't appreciate C#.

I only know C++ and Python, so its probably just out of my comfort zone.

@Phoenix Is it an array? Use .length. Is it a string? Use .length(). Is it a List? Use .size(). Otherwise, check the documentation.

@WheatWizard Oh, I thought you knew Ruby because RainFlak

3:09 AM
@Phoenix You would think. I just pretend its python and randomly insert ends until it runs
You should see the code, its a stinking pile of garbage.

I like the golfing aspect of Ruby and Python, but I absolutely can't stand dynamic typing for serious projects.

I like dynamic typing, but I don't feel it blends well with OOP

Not at all.
The only places where dynamic typing seems useful, it can be substituted with generics.

@isaacg could I know what you fixed?
@isaacg some 10 minutes

Forked needs help, anyone want to contribute?

3:33 AM
@totallyhuman how is bork
@MDXF ok
@totallyhuman It's just unfinished, unless you mean someone rolled back the changes I made or something
@ATaco Uh no? You don't specify what "this task" is
@ConorO'Brien English?
@MDXF hey are you afk D:
@Phoenix No what they're pretty easy to use without an IDE

3:50 AM
Not with large projects, and you shouldn't be using Java/C# for small scripts.

@ASCII-only this task is self referential.

@ATaco No it isn't? It's not a task
@Phoenix How is it hard with large projects?

The task is to, Repeat this task twice more. Instancing the task isn't my job.

@ATaco ... It's a sentence not a task, also 0/10 source reading and you don't need the more

@ASCII-only An IDE gives you the capability to write entire lines without needing to consult the docs to find out what some method is called.

3:53 AM
It's a task when executed and it not making sense won't matter if not executed.

@Phoenix Well if you're not using 50 million third party libs and are mostly familiar with the stdlib though...

@ASCII-only what does AFK mean :p

4:09 AM
Poll: (This is its own sentence.) or (This is its own sentence). ?

4:25 AM
Can I get some feedback for this?

Q: Critic Badge not awarded

micsthepickI recently down-voted this off topic question: Chess Championship Why was I not awarded the badge "critic"? It seemed to work fine on other SE sites.

5:02 AM
Anyone have advice for my KOTH proposal?

5:32 AM
lol tag-badges are called badge-tag in the CSS but I read it as "bag-tadge" ><

in this game you can choose a hardmode by being colourblind

5:52 AM
@WheatWizard I don't know if you've found something shorter, but f [_]=true;f _=false should work I think, I don't know haskell very well yet though
@HyperNeutrino First one, but a full sentence parenthesized shouldn't appear inside another sentence, it should be on its own. E.g. This is a sentence (This is also a sentence.) written poorly. is wrong, but This is a sentence. (That is okay.) is good
That's just my opinion though

Okay, thanks for your opinion. I think the general rule should be that removing all bracketed sections should maintain the correctness
Also, this will make the lack of a design look beautiful in comparison lol
anyway gtg, low battery. o/

Cya!

idea: koth where programs are markov chains

@LeakyNun I instituted a memory upper bound on the interpreter, so it throws a normal Python error when it uses too much memory, rather than getting killed by Heroku, which used to have to restart the entire dyno, leading to a temporary outage.

6:21 AM

6:48 AM
Alright, I made a sight to make installing tacoscripts easier

7:43 AM
@isaacg nice!
How is the size of an array stored in C?

@LeakyNun I have a list of numbers and I want to filter it, such that the final list only contains perfect squares (of course in Pyth). Do you know any short approach?
