@mınxomaτ I know, but what I'm saying is that during the anagram time, there were way more people with temporary/different names
@Mego Sure, but it's not hard to re-recognize people though

In fact, I'm changing my avatar back to the original because, as cool as the deep dream version looks, it's hard to tell what it is at the small scale present in chat and on posts.

I'm not quite sure how the rules are when it comes to functions vs programs in R. In general, a function can take input as arguments, but can programs have them as pre-defined, as in this answer: codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/92773/31516

Nope, that's bogus.

Anonymous
Yep, I've commented on and flagged that answer

@Mego hahahaha did you think you just talking to a new user or something?
I didn't actually change my name, just my parent account

@DJMcMayhem Yep. I almost instinctively hit the ignore button on you because I thought you were new, and a significant portion of our newer members have been troublesome IMO :P

@Fatalize I love color palettes that are said to be distinguishable but I'm colorblind so what do I know? :P

choosing colors for a plot is the hardest part in writing a paper
pretty infuriating

The plus side is, if the colors are distinguishable in greyscale, they'll probably also be distinguishable by a colorblind person

It doesn't have to look good. The colors just have to be distinct. It's a scientific paper, not a piece of art.

Hello

@Qwerp-Derp Oh I forgot to ask, is $ for length fine

8:06 AM
hello all
I've noticed that I'm gonna have soon the "access review queues" privilege. How is that different from looking at the active questions?

@seshoumara Review is for reviewing edits IIRC

what is IIRC?

@seshoumara if i recall correctly

and edits do appear on the questions page, the active tab as "modified" answers

Anonymous
IIRC = if I remember correctly

Anonymous
8:11 AM
There are 5 review queues, that are accessed at different reputation levels

ok
I've been wondering, I can only review answers in languages that I know, so can I select/filter from the queue answers in those specific languages?
edits

Anonymous
The Close Votes queue has you review close votes, possibly casting one of your own if you decide the post should be closed. The First Posts queue has you review first posts by new users, to make sure that everything checks out, as they are often unaware of the policies of the site. The Late Answers queue is like the First Posts queue, except you review new answers from new users to old questions. The Low Quality queue has you review posts that have been flagged as Very Low Quality...

I see, pls give me the link to that. How many weeks or by how many rep are you considered a new user?

Anonymous
... (either manually or automatically). Reopen queue has you review closed/on-hold questions that have been recently edited after being closed or that have reopen votes. Suggested Edits queue has you review suggested edits (not the same thing as looking at the edit history - you help decide whether or not suggested edits (by users with low enough rep that they can't directly edit posts) should go through).

Anonymous
@seshoumara In the case of the review queues, "new user" means "someone who has not made a post on this site before".

Anonymous
8:16 AM
There are actually 6 queues, not 5. I'm bad at counting, apparently.

Anonymous
@seshoumara You don't need to know the language to review answers. Check if there are any glaring problems. If not, and you don't know enough about the language to be sure that the answer is good, there's a "skip" button.

So one post and then you're not a new user anymore, interesting approach.
@Mego ok, good to know

Anonymous
It may actually be multiple posts. I've only ever seen new users in the queues once per user, but that could be due to the fact that the queues get cleared out pretty quickly. We have a lot of high-rep users that patrol the queues regularly (myself included).

Anonymous
I usually go through all the queues every hour or so while I'm online.

At the moment I'm interested in new posts and edits queues, so I can't wait to do a few myself. So you approve it, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to upvote, or does it?

8:21 AM
@seshoumara You don't have to upvote

aaa, ok, now I understand why not knowing the language is not that of a problem.

@Fatalize Yeah, why coffe if there is better stuff?

My current problem: reconciling the good design decision of using different compilation units for different classes with the unfortunate fact that classes with template member functions must have those functions defined in the header.

8:30 AM
@Mego Use Javascript instead.

Anonymous
@flawr I'd rather carve the code into my forearm with a rusty, dull knife.

@Mego I didn't know about the suggested edits. So does that mean I can actually edit someone else's answer? I imagine since I don't have 1k rep it will go to that queue.

@Mego I agree, this is the better option, you should do it.

Anonymous
@seshoumara Exactly. You can suggest edits on questions and answers. If you have less than 1k rep, those edits will go into the suggested edits queue. If you have >= 1k rep, the edits will apply immediately, and you can also review other users' suggested edits.

wow

Anonymous
8:33 AM
The reputation system takes some getting used to :P

We should have a parallel disreputation system.

Anonymous
Generally, we trust users to be smart and not make bad edits if they've reached 1k rep (meaning they've participated enough in the community to be at least minimally invested in keeping it clean). If a user abuses their privileges, however, those privileges will be removed.

Anyone uses CyanogenMod?

@Mego Until now, I was suggesting edits in the comments section, but mostly were shorter solutions which belonged as comments anyway. But just one time I had a heated conversation about how a sed code was used and to think I could have avoided that with a suggested edit. Do you think it will be impolite suggesting it now, after he refused the change?

Anonymous
8:44 AM
@seshoumara Suggested edits are not for code improvements

Anonymous
Edits are for helping fix content issues other than the code not being optimal, like fixing an incorrect score or correcting typos.

Yes, I understand. That particular conversation was not about code improvement, but more about formatting.

Had the conversation continued to be so unproductive, a mod flag on the answer would've been appropriate

Halp!!!

@Mego pfew, I thought I was too harsh with him, insisting. Yeah, he kept repeating he doesn't need -r on the usage code, but that was because that was a different code, with escape slashes, that the presented code didn't have.

@Qwerp-Derp ?
@Qwerp-Derp Oh wait
@Qwerp-Derp How is it borked

IDK

Anonymous
8:54 AM
A suggested edit would not have been appropriate, because the issue with the answer was misrepresentation of the code for an incorrect score. You were right to call the user out on that, and since the user didn't actually fix the problem, flagging it for moderator attention so a mod could intervene would be appropriate.

@Qwerp-Derp Screenshot?

It just says Error: premature end of char-class
Ummm
@ASCII-only That should be enough info, shouldn't it?
Or do you guys need the whole stacktrace

Anonymous
@seshoumara Your wording wasn't exactly ideal (it did come off as slightly confrontational), but your point was valid. The code couldn't be used as represented, so the answer was invalid.

The parens around all of the regexes was to test if it made the code any less borked
Slightly more revised code:

'name': 'Logicode'
'fileTypes': ['lgc']
'patterns': [

    'comment': 'Keywords'
    'match': '[+=\[\]\/<>]|(->)'
    'name': 'keyword.operator.logicode'

double escape everything then

What do you mean?

replace every \ with \\

Nope, code is still borked
Halp

can i ask about it on codereview

does it work? or does it add the second field of the add instruction as well?

.F is a combination of .A and .B

wait, it will because I just realised that the b field is the value I want to add anyway...

We should probs make a separate room for LC
