@seshoumara can you handle also any type of tail loop/loops at the start of the file?

give me a code example

Huh. My rarest badge here is Electorate. Have only 32 people really voted that much?

@TùxCräftîñg That guy complained on C.SE too.

@Geobits I've got a couple on meta, but nothing on main

@Geobits Hey, I did my part as of a couple days ago.

@seshoumara [this is a comment]+++++[>+++++<-][this is a comment too]

I'm a level-8 necromancer, muhahaha

::::::::::::::::::O

@El'endiaStarman That seems especially odd, given Lazarus and all.

@TùxCräftîñg yes, it does

3:03 PM
@Geobits Necromancy is black magic, though.

Which doesn't exist

@El'endiaStarman More generally, it's communicating with the dead. Which many Christians will tell you is absolutely possible.

and most scientists will tell you it's not

Well sure :P

whats necromancer

3:06 PM
@betseg , a badge.
Answer a question more than 60 days later with score of 5 or more.

oh ok

@Geobits My rarest is bronze Kolmogorov-Complexity -- only 23 people.

My rarest is Fanatic.

Oh I didn't look at tag badges. Lemme check, but I doubt I have one that rare.
Yeah, only tag badge I have is [code-golf]. I wish [koth] had enough questions for a badge >_<

3:09 PM
i will have fanatic in 33 days

Mine is either kolmogorov complexity or strunk and white

@TùxCräftîñg Good news!
> It's just you. inference.phy.cam.ac.uk is up.

how can you tell which ones are rare?

You look at how many people have been awarded the badge

My rarest is about to be reviewer, but I've still got some to go...

@aditsu If you look at your profile page, the badges on the bottom show the rarest

@TimmyD on every column?

My two rarest: Proofreader and Synonymizer

@Geobits Hmm. I don't think it's quite that clear cut. There is indeed a story in the Old Testament where King Saul, via a witch, summons the prophet Samuel's ghost. He gets heavily criticized for it though, and even the witch is surprised. On the other hand, you do have the Catholic and Orthodox traditions of praying "to" the saints, but even there, they're not dead, they're alive in a different place. Now, if you're talking about really superstitious Christians, you're probably right.

Okay, Inquisitive, Strunk & White and Kolmogorov Complexity are mine: they all have 23 users

3:13 PM
@aditsu Yeah, so, for example, your rarest gold is the tag badge for Code-Golf. Next-rarest would be Great Answer. Your rarest silver badge is Outspoken. Etc.

@TimmyD code-golf is at the top though

@El'endiaStarman Right. I don't mean that it necessarily has a strict biblical basis. I live in the southern US, though, and I can tell you that people pray to their dead relatives all the time. Not to even mention scammy-seeming faith-healers and such.

@Geobits Yeah, I don't run around in those circles. :P

@aditsu Yep. The columns are in decreasing rarity (i.e., most rare at the top)

> As a courtesy, we want you to know that your water consumption appears higher than normal and our analysis of your water consumption data indicates a possible leak of billable water on the customer side of the meter. We encourage you to look and listen for leaks, such as a running toilet. Leaks can occur outside as well, so check your faucets and grounds for wet spots.

If you cannot identify any leaks, you may want to have a certified plumber check your system.
Crap

3:16 PM
@TimmyD That's not true for me. My rarest silver is inquisitive (23) and it shows a bunch of more common ones above it.

@TimmyD I think we mean entirely different things by "columns"

Oh, I'm looking in the wrong spot.
nmd

@BetaDecay haven't laught so hard in a while thanks!

@TùxCräftîñg and this is the xml code for the bf highlighter if anyone needs it pastebin.com/vAyhtiSn

@Geobits Are you sure you haven't just been using more water?
@JonathanAllan :D

3:17 PM
@BetaDecay Well, I've been using more this week than last week, but that's because the power was out last week and I was out of town. I assume they compare it on a slightly longer timeframe though. Gonna look around outside for a start though.

First thing I thought of before he spoke was ...

@aditsu You're looking at your Profile page, right?

@TimmyD I was looking at the activity -> badges part

@Geobits So what happens if it's a leak in the mains water pipe leading to your house? Would they still bill you if you don't find a leak?

3:19 PM
@aditsu Yeah. I don't know what sort of sorting the activity -> badges uses

oooh, I see "rarest" on the main profile page

where is the logicode chat room?

@BetaDecay If it's on the "house" side of the connection/meter, yes.
It would only register as here if it was past the meter.

hhhhhwwwiiiieeeeel
oh ... while

3:21 PM
@Geobits Oh yeah, of course

@TimmyD still, doesn't show how many people earned each one.. I probably have to cross-reference?

That's why I just linked to the badges page that gives actual numbers and little checkmarks that show yours.
It just doesn't show numbers for tag badges (except total in each class).

@zyabin101 is that one of those fancy "driving" input methods?

Yeah, you can either click into each one and see the awarded # there, or do what Geobits suggests and just scan through the entire list

3:24 PM
@aditsu Yup, it's Dasher.

That's an image of something that works? I thought it was something you were sending in to tech support.

it doesn't look quite right..

@Geobits No, it works.
(the final few chars were a small twentism on Dasher's part.)

wat, only 8 people have restricted-source?

@zyabin101 Are you sure it works? It looks it's been completely screwed up

3:28 PM
@aditsu I think there'll be less than that with [king-of-the-hill] if we ever get nine more questions to hit the 100 threshold.

@BetaDecay It's normal.

@Geobits bronze badge, 20 answers

There's only one person with , one person with , and two people with ... and I'll give you two guesses to get all four correct.

@aditsu Yeah, but the tag itself has to have 100 questions or nobody can get the badge. There are a few with over 20 answers.

@TimmyD Martin and Dennis?

3:30 PM
oh, I see

@Adnan Nailed it in one

@TimmyD date and quine: Dennis

Surprisingly, the two with a silver badge are not Martin and Dennis

@TimmyD Helka? No wait, he makes those challenges.

Martin and edc?

@Geobits I applaud the punniness of this.

Purely unintentional, I assure you ;)

@Geobits Those are the best ones.

idgi, must be tired
ah, nucular shrooms

@aditsu Nuclear explosions produce mushroom clouds.

right

3:50 PM
Hmm. Yes, 1500 gallons per day does seem a bit excessive.
What the hell.

what's that in real units?
wtf, 5678 L?

@El'endiaStarman Geobits got it -- Martin and edc are the two silver users

@aditsu Exactly.
For the last few days, apparently.

1500 gallons per day?

No wonder they sent me an alert.

3:51 PM
I didn't know you were so thirsty

Gotta stay hydrated ya know.

5.5T of water o_o

Did you accidentally install an Olympic-sized swimming pool in the back yard and are slowly filling it?

@TimmyD so Martin was one of them

Yeah, tricksy wording

3:53 PM
@TimmyD Oh right. I forgot I did that. That explains it.

it happens..

What's the normal daily water usage?

To put it into perspective, I used 1600 gallons during the entire month of August.

Yeah. I accidentally installed a surfshop in my back yard and couldn't figure out where all my vegetables and blenders went.

Oh, wow.

3:55 PM
So only ~30x normal. Not too bad >_<

>>> ~30 & ((1<<64)-1)
18446744073709551585
this is a lot of water

I wonder what the water company uses for the cutoff between "Okay, you're using more water than normal." and "Okay, you can't possibly be using this much water.".

a bit over 1 "gallon"/min

@El'endiaStarman Unsure. I used to work for the utility dept, but on different projects.
I could probably call someone and find out :P
I'm starting to think the meter is just broken. There's no way I'm dumping a gallon a minute without knowing it. I've had water leaks at other places before. It's usually really obvious by the giant puddle in the yard.

could it just be going into the drain?

3:59 PM
There isn't a drain between the meter and fixtures/appliances though. Or shouldn't be.

¯\_(o_º)_/¯

Did you check for a hose attached to an outside spigot that runs across the yard to a neighbor's house?

Ok, well, scratch that. It's definitely leaking. Time to call a plumber.

Q: Bytes for changing a configuration file before running a program?

mbomb007In this answer using Python's turtle module, I discovered that some default settings for the turtles are set in a configuration file called turtle.cfg, which is read at import time. Right at the meter. It's running off down the gutter in the road.

4:04 PM
Yay, 800 rep!

The meter is leaking? That's kinda ironic.

Yeah. Looks like right on this side of the connection >_<

4:15 PM
@EasterlyIrk I did it!
Turtles FTW!

@NewMetaPosts I legitimately can't think of a good solution for this, just a ton of problems this raises :/

its not yet on GH
` is my favorite character

Okay.

because it's hard to insert it in markdown

Here is your ` in a frame. :3
It's bronze right now. If you are good enough, I can grant you a silver one, a gold one...

ASCII badges?

4:35 PM
Yes :3
However, there will be other codepages.
BabelStone apps have a composite font, which is majik.
It becomes better as you download broader fonts, which cover more Unicode ranges.

@aditsu Ah, that one is an unrenderable char.

@zyabin101 has to be ascii?

@betseg Yeah.
(However, I'll giveaway other codepages' character badges.

@zyabin101 not even extended ascii?

4:42 PM
Nope, only range U+0000..U+007F.

oh ok then
0x07
U+0007
i like 0xdc Ü btw. looks like it's happy

Here's your U+0007, in a frame. :3
It's bronze right now. If you are good enough, I can grant you a silver one, a gold one...

i am working on the docs for straw
i will release it soon

:D

@zyabin101 that looks more like my character :p

4:47 PM
@aditsu What is your char?

@zyabin101 can you, like, put U+0007 on top and ␇ on middle?

Okay, when I giveaway the 2400..247F codepage, I'll grant you a U+2407 SYMBOL FOR BELL, and possibly upgrade it :3
@betseg I can but I don't want.

@zyabin101 ._.
Whatever i can do it with html, ill do it when i go home

Okay, my composite font is a combination of Arial, Courier New, Estrangelo Edessa, Gautami, Kartika, Latha, Lucida Sans Unicode, MV Boli, Mangal, Microsoft Sans Serif, Open Sans (a portable font), Palatino Linotype, Raavi, Shruti, Sylfaen, Times New Roman, Tunga, Vrinda and Webdings.
It fully covers five out of 256 blocks and 3.3% of Unicode 8.0 (3,938 out of 120,737 characters exactly).

4:52 PM
Use some Roboto too its beautiful and open source

Okai :3

Also, Ubuntu font. It's gorgeous.

add noto and symbola for moar chars

Yeah Noto is CJK, Hindi etc thing of Roboto

I thought they were different fonts

4:56 PM
If Open Sans contributed as much Unicode blocks as possible to the composite font (applied over the current automatic settings), the resulting composite font will fully cover only fower out of 256 blocks and 2.2% of Unicode 8.0 (2,649 out of 120,737 chars exactly).

That costs 1,289 chars.

> Noto is the standard typeface on Android for all languages not covered by Roboto.

@zyabin101 -1 no dejavu

Halp i think i know what caused the tging
When i try to download images or take screenshots it says no sd card found
probably cm tho

4:59 PM
@TùxCräftîñg I only pick fonts from Google Fonts... But I can pick other free fonts too, good idea :3

Ubuntu tho. Its beautiful too

i have a problem
how to unittest random?

statistical tests
A numeric sequence is said to be statistically random when it contains no recognizable patterns or regularities; sequences such as the results of an ideal dice roll, or the digits of π exhibit statistical randomness. Statistical randomness does not necessarily imply "true" randomness, i.e., objective unpredictability. Pseudorandomness is sufficient for many uses, such as statistics, hence the name statistical randomness. Global randomness and local randomness are different. Most philosophical conceptions of randomness are global—because they are based on the idea that "in the long run" a sequence...

that will make sure it's NOT random :p

I forgot what are the recommended first four glyphs in a font, and what they should be mapped to.

@zyabin101 AY^;

@Dennis I saw, and that's why I'm asking - I don't see how it addresses the issue I'm trying to raise

Well, I do know what they are, but don't know what they should be mapped to.

@zyabin101 this?

Yeah, this!

5:38 PM
@Sp3000 Ah! I somehow missed the most important part of your comment (the location of the changed character). Deleting for now.

Yeah, general gist of it is I'm having trouble coming up with a reasonable solution that doesn't allow for loopholes like allowing arbitrarily many "1 byte" programs

test.rb:14: dynamic constant assignment
    STDIN = Tempfile.new "tmpi"
           ^
test.rb:15: dynamic constant assignment
    STDOUT = Tempfile.new "tmpo"
            ^
test.rb:27: dynamic constant assignment
    STDIN = IO.new 0
           ^
test.rb:28: dynamic constant assignment
    STDOUT = IO.new 1
;_;

If you've designed your IO right it should only really be in one small part that you don't need to unit test

1) create golfing language with 256 mappings of 200+ characters each to operations 2) choose operation set depending on challenge by switching a single byte in the "config" 3) ... 4) Profit!

This is what Rotor did

5:41 PM
@aditsu And also the spec for TrueType specifying exactly what they should be mapped to. Way to go :3

@quartata Terrible :(

except it was ascii only

@quartata Then why isn't it golfy? :P

I recall rotor vaguely, but also don't recall it really being used.

5:41 PM
@Dennis Because I never fully developed it

i dd'ed a comment and syntax highlighting went off

@Dennis btw in case you're wondering, I have the same issue with the current way we score flags, but I just don't have a good solution so I don't say much about it :/

Oh god your commit messages
Why are you doing this

becuase i cant think of a commit messgae for this
^ typo heaven

5:45 PM
@Sp3000 I guess we could add floor(log256(length of file)) (or something like that) bytes to determine the location of each change. Might be good to come up with a scoring method that encodes the diff.

@quartata hey I know that guy! :p

@Dennis Yeah, something like that (but not exactly that) would be good - unfortunately the most fair solution would also probably be the most unintuitive and complex, which is annoying
