Q: Seriously, GolfScript, CJam, or Pyth?

coredumpSome time ago, the following question was asked: GolfScript, CJam, or Pyth? Based on the title only, I thought that it would be a very nice challenge, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a question asking for tips. Here is the challenge I wanted to read: Who said golfing languages were not...

Thank you, star man.

Ooohhhh
Hahahaha

oo or ro rr

12:02 AM
I was expecting it to be a golfing language.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Fus... Ro jif Da!

@PhiNotPi Oh, right, that'd break the trend...
Or, Seriously, GolfScript, CJam, Pyth -- sorted in terms of golfiness

@LuisMendo Hahaha, thanks :)

A & N
Amy and Nathan

lol wat
That was unexpected

Hey, chat shows my old name. Does it have to be changed manually here too?
Hm

That is weird
I think it happens automatically

did you change it in chat?

12:06 AM
No, only on PPCG

@LuisMendo It's because your parent profile is Stack Overflow.
If you change it to PPCG the name change there will be reflected in chat

@AquaTart Yes, I was seeing precisely that. That makes sense. Thanks!
But that will change it in all chats?

Yes.

I've posted 33301 messages all-time, including this one. Wow.

@AquaTart Then I'm not sure I want to do that

12:08 AM
At least, all chats except Meta SE and SO.

@AquaTart why except those? The other chat room I frequent is in SO
so it wouldn't be changed there?
(I'd rather not have it changed there)

@LuisMendo It's because SO and Meta SE are different chat servers (chat.stackoverflow.com and chat.meta.stackexchange.com)
They always use your SO and Meta SE profiles
it's weird I know

So, to confirm, you say that if I change parent user here it won't affect SO chat, right?

Yes.

Great! Thanks
Changed
Hm I guess it takes some time until it reflects here

12:13 AM
o-o

I exited and entered
Of course that had to be the solution :-D

@DonMuesli Are you swiss now?

How do you pronounce "muesli" in English

@Liam I am L

12:16 AM

@flawr I think it's either "muesli" or "müsli"?

In swiss german it is müesli=)
but you are right, ü is sometimes replaced with ue

@flawr Oh, I thought it was the general rule
I don't really speak German

It still is used in some street/city names, or if you are typing on a keyboard without äöü
@DonMuesli Neither do I^^

@Neil Close enough=)

Where can you see the q/d ratio now?

12:22 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ "I am an aspiring math person."

@Neil That's what the dict says (link above -- mine, not Conor's), except last "ea" should be shorter. More like "mewsly"

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Thanks :)

12:23 AM
@DonMuesli I'd pronounce "mewsly" the same as "mewslea" so there

You need a -1 builtin. >.>
Also:
Java is currently running at a consistent 100% CPU right now. This is totally efficient, what are you talking about? — VoteToClose 6 secs ago

@VoteToClose I don't Vitsy, but isn't that a snippet?

@El'endiaStarman ... and then set themselves on fire due to wind resistance.

@Dennis Stack-based languages can exit with values on the stack.
Unless I'm horribly wrong.

I don't think so.

I think so.

I swear I've seen that before... gimme a sec.

A: Default for Code Golf: Input/Output methods

Martin BüttnerFunctions in stack-based languages can leave the output on the stack Mostly for completeness sake. This is the de-facto standard for CJam and GolfScript and probably other stack-based languages.

Is your code a function?
(If it is, you should mention that for people who don't purse dog.)

12:37 AM
@Dennis Yes - and I forgot to count the newline declarator. x.x

@VoteToClose Well done! The code looks familiar... (don't worry, it's not Rick Astley)

@Dennis s/purse dog/vitsi/
yes, an i.

@DonMuesli Lel, I saw the question and was like. Oh. Well then. <insert Staples button here>
I didn't look at any other code, either. xD
I would just quickly like to say that my prime number thingy is still running.

Why are the answers on this question getting few upvotes?

Q: Calculate the number of primes up to n

Liamπ(n) is the number of primes less than or equal to n. Input: a natural number, n. Output: π(n). Scoring: This is a fastest-code challenge. Score will be the sum of times for the score cases. I will time each entry on my computer. Rules and Details Your code should work for n up to 2 bil...

@RikerW bai
orlp had a superb answer 3 hours ago that has 2 upvotes. D:

12:42 AM
Is it just me or is the number of questions today just not so high

Half of them are on hold

@VoteToClose Could you humor me and actually call the function in your TIO link?

Over the past 2 weeks, PPCG has had...
9.4 questions per day
6.6 answers per question

12:45 AM
Also, I'm thinking about renaming to CoolestVeto in 3 days. Any supporters?

I'm an anti-supporter :P

^
First I was thinking "huh, what is a duck?". Luckily you have provided a link to the wikipedia page. — A and N yesterday

@VoteToClose OK, s the function on the first line is the "main" function, and all functions are accessible using the m command, yes?

@AandN Your comment has more votes than the challenge XD

Feb 23 at 19:29, by Alex A.
Well, now that we've graduated we no longer have to try to get 10 questions per day. Back to slacking, everyone.

12:47 AM
For the record, I've still maintained my 0.5 qpd quota. :P

@AlexA. Hahahahahaha

@Dennis Yeah. :)
Basically, newlines indicate a new method, and everything is static in Vitsy.

Q: Descending digit sequences

A and NIntroduction For example, let's take the number 7. We then duplicate this and place 7 spaces in between. We get this: 7_______7 After that, we are going to decrease the number, until there are no spaces left. We get the following for the number 7: 7_______7 6543210 Then, we just merge...

@NewMainPosts that was quick

I just did a pretty interesting Python golf
S=lambda s:(c+w for f in[str,S]for w in f(s)for c in s)
sadly it's not a valid solution for the challenge at hand though :(

12:52 AM
@VoteToClose I still think counting the newline is both wrong and inconsistent with how all other languages are scored.

@Lynn try the GOLF-CPU :)

@Dennis In what way? I mean, I thought this too, but Martin brought up the point that there is no function without a newline.
OH WAIT IDEA.
Just put it in the main method.
Call it from another class.
No newline. :)

no one any comments on my golf? :(
I felt pretty smart for it

@VoteToClose Of course it is a function. It is the main function. 0m recurses, doesn't it?

(doesn't know Python) (claps anyway)

12:54 AM
:D
