4:00 PM
So no, not really.

@Geobits Of course, Geobits doesn't always tell the truth.

Yes he does

It is rare for snow to fall in the U.S. state of Florida (and surrounding areas) because freezing temperatures in Florida are generally caused by the cold weather and dry winds of anticyclones. Frost is more common than snow, requiring temperatures of 45 °F (7 °C) or less at 2 m (7 ft) above sea level, a cloudless sky, and a relative humidity of 65% or more. In the general case, for snow to occur, the polar jet stream must move southward through Texas and into the Gulf of Mexico, with a stalled cold front across the southern portion of the state curving northeastward to combine freezing air into...

Geobits never lies. November 2nd really happened

If you want moderate amounts of snow (i.e. a foot or two each winter), move instead to the eastern part of NY, near Albany

4:01 PM
@El'endiaStarman upstate new York

^^^ Maybe some proof that Florida isn't known for being snowy.

@DrMcMoylex Yeah, taxes are higher here than elsewhere.

@EriktheGolfer To be clear, I have seen snow here in Florida, but the ground wasn't warm enough for it to stick. It just melts off in fairly short order.

If you want more snow and lower taxes, move a little further east to Vermont

4:02 PM
@EriktheGolfer That's not proof, it's Wikipedia.
@DrMcMoylex What does "been to" mean? I've driven through a ton.

That counts

Oh jeez.

Well, Google (google.com/ncr) can search for "florida snow".

Have fun counting. :P

@Geobits hahahaha

4:03 PM
Let me get a map and start checking them off...
I think it's 27

I think I'm at 18

Definitely 26-30 though

I just quickly guessed and voted for 11-15. :P

There's quite a bit out west I haven't hit.

Choices are approximated, do not be afraid.

4:05 PM
I'm at 8, I think

The better question is: has anyone here ever been to Alaska

Wow, didn't see that coming actually.

Sure, I was in Anchorage for a few weeks, on two occasions. It's great during the summer.

@quartata My fiancée wants to go there someday.

4:06 PM
Salmon fishing for a few days. It was a blast

@Geobits This I did expect. You world traveler :P

@quartata Perks of being in the Navy, I guess. :P

O_O
Air Force :P

Does just stopping at an airport count?

@Geobits Shoot. I did second-guess myself after posting that message...

4:07 PM
Sure
Stupid mobile chat

Oh, then I should be at 28. I stopped in Denver for a layover once.

I think I've made it to 6

Shebang? Is that your real name?

Every time I fly somewhere, I appreciate DIA much more. It's really well streamlined and smooth running, lots of other airports I've been to are not

Yes :)

4:09 PM
@DrMcMoylex Yeah, it was really nice. O'Hare is a nightmare, and Atlanta is pretty bad too.

I'm rebranding, since I link to a personal website and GitHub page I may as well have the same name here

How many countries have you been to?

@Kade: Any relation to Cade Skywalker? :P

@KritixiLithos I knew that was coming...

@KritixiLithos does flying through count?
That would drastically change my number

4:11 PM
@KritixiLithos I think I'm at 10, but I might be forgetting something.

@El'endiaStarman kade.ca

The closest I've been to a country besides the USA is Canada at Niagara Falls

It counts if you stayed there at least for a day

Oh, wait. I was in Ireland for a couple days, so 11.

4:12 PM
What about territories of countries? Do they count for the host, or separately? For example, I've been to Midway Island.

@Geobits Ireland sounds really cool. I'd love to see it sometime

@Kade That site is so broken. I mean, images don't show up at all.

@EriktheGolfer Thankfully it isn't mine ;P

@Geobits They count as separate countries

Canada, USA, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong (?), New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Philippines, Mexico, Jamaica, Thailand are all I have I think

4:13 PM
Oh. 12 then :D

I don't know if you count Hong Kong as a separate country though.

It has its own flag?

Oh I forgot Italy. Thanks for mentioning that.

0_0 wow. That's quite the list

Now I'll go golfing.

4:14 PM
Oh and the Maldives :) That's 15 I think

7 people online from the us? wow

Why is that weird?

@Kade Sheesh. I think I'm at 8 but I'd have to do a tally

@DrMcMoylex Maybe it's oddly low. :P
I've been two exactly to countries.

USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Djibouti, Midway, France. I think that's it.

4:16 PM
Oh wait, I have a few more to add :P South Africa and Swaziland bring it up to 17

@Kade dayum

@quartata I have been very fortunate :)

@Kade Jeez. What did you do to travel so much?

@El'endiaStarman Lived in Canada until I was 8, moved to singapore for 5 years, then came back to Canada
Enabled by my dad, not my own pocket ;P

I've been to Iceland. That was really cool

4:18 PM
South Africa + Swaziland was a school trip

@DrMcMoylex Pun alert!

@DrMcMoylex I always wanted to go there. I never made it on those trips though :(

@Kade Moving across the world by yourself at age 8 would be a little scary

Heh, I found the pun out.

Iceland is actually not all that cold, or so I'm told

4:18 PM
Well, not as cold as Greenland.

@Geobits It's absolutely gorgeous. If you can make it, you totally should

Oh yeah, I guess the Bahamas counts too

@quartata yeah, it really wasn't. It was like 40-50 F most of the time

But greener than Greenland :)

A little chilly, but not cold

4:20 PM
Are we going to count the Vatican as a country here? :P

I think you have to, yeah.
If Midway counts, the Vatican surely does.

@Kade Two hours later oh yeah, and that one country I forgot! I've actually been to 57.

So Kade has been to ~10% of all the countries in the world

Vatican City is a separate country

I think I am out of countries, adding the Vatican and Zimbabwe makes 20 :P

4:22 PM
Oh wait, I have to add the Azores, but I think I don't have any more than that.

@quartata Never really thought about that, kind of cool!
And I will be up to 21 by christmas ;P

@DrMcMoylex It's pretty nice. Though I was there with a planeful of military, our experince might have been a bit different than others.
@Kade Where ya headed?

@Geobits Dominican Republic, can't quite remember the area but apparently there's nice beaches :)

I wish I could travel around the world just for the heck of it

Sounds nice

4:24 PM
My parents were both stationed in the US Army in Panama, and they went on a Caribbean cruise around 10 years ago, so I think they have around 10 countries each. I'd have to ask though

@DrMcMoylex I can also drive 10 miles into the mountains and hike 5 to see snow, but Colorado sounds nice too.

Yeah, a Caribbean cruise is a good way to rack up countries for the list lol

I get the feeling someone is doing data mining here
2

-1 for linking to results page

4:26 PM
I wonder what countries the Disney cruise went on, I can't remember because I was so young but maybe I could add a couple more :)

@Geobits fixed

PPCG age poll: https://strawpoll.me/7367215

We'll know when to stop answering once there's a strawpoll of our mothers' maiden name

Since you have to provide all the options, that would be a pretty strange poll. ;)

@DrMcMoylex My poll is for the year you were born, not your current age, so the data is more... stable.

4:29 PM
@DrMcMoylex Do three polls: first letter, second letter, and third letter. :P

@Kade My mother's maiden name is Helpimtrappedinadatamine

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

CisNOTthatGOODbutISOisTHATBADChange the type of a variable without introducing any new identifiers while preserving a value resulting from the conversion of the original one Consider the variable which type you should change is declared/defined inside a function. Another thing to consider is that there wouldn't be any other...

@DrMcMoylex Give a list of 10-20, and ask for which has the least levenshtein distance to the actual answer. Rinse/repeat with multiple polls over time.

Lol

But how can we guarantee the same users answer each time?

4:30 PM
@NewSandboxedPosts And, how the heck should anyone be able to change a variable's type in a statically typed language?

@ETHproductions Set up a strawpoll.me phishing site and track them.

@MartinEnder after seeing the crack of your Hexagony answer I quite liked it: it looks like to put 3 challenges into 1, but only made one of them valid

Oh sweet, my 3DS is on the way :)

@EriktheGolfer oh, its a programming puzzle!

> CisNOTthatGOODbutISOisTHATBAD

4:32 PM
@Kade Are you just now getting one?

c is not that good but iso is that bad?

That could actually be an interesting question (or challenge). Given a pool of possible strings and three sets, one each for the first, second, and third letters, can you determine which strings were used?

@Geobits I purchased a used one about 6 months ago, I tried to swap the casing and totally botched the screen, so I am now on my second :P
This one is brand new though, don't want to try replacing any displays or anything

Ah. Mine's got dog-teeth marks on it in a few places, but otherwise it's fine lol

4:34 PM
@Geobits Dog teeth I would have been fine with, but the pink cover wasn't really my style and it was kind of falling apart

Man, I haven't had a Gameboy since I was like 12.

The poor circle pad on mine...

I still have my GBA, I think it's 13 years old now

@DrMcMoylex I still have my GBA.

@NathanMerrill thanks :). What's the third one?

4:35 PM
I wonder what the average number of letters needed to definitively reconstruct an English dictionary word is.

GBC is lost to the closet monster most likely

@quartata Oh, yeah, the little pad cover keeps coming off mine when I move it too fast, too :/

For those of you with Sun / Moon: How is it?

Wait, it's out?

@El'endiaStarman Depends on the dictionary. If it's one that includes varying forms separately (milk vs milky), then it's going to be pretty high.

4:36 PM
On the 18th everywhere but Europe I think

@Geobits no minibits teeth?

Europe gets it on the 23rd afaik

@MartinEnder I assume since you were printing numbers with input that there was another sequence challenge you were trying to emulate

OK, so I've just been living under a rock then

Yeah, it's out. I can't play it until Christmas though :(

4:36 PM
is it a gift for the little one? or are you just waiting?

This is probably the first generation I won't buy though

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Nah. He learned not to bite stuff before he was six, believe it or not :P
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Yeah, we always get them in pairs. So I can't play until he gets his.

it took me (according to parents) 8 years

@NathanMerrill not really, I just used ? (integer input) as a zero somewhere, but in hindsight I should have dropped a few more input functions in the code.

@Geobits cool, that's a nice thing to do for your kid!

4:37 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Well you're a cat. It's different with humans.

@quartata Impressive. I'm sure we have an sp and a ds floating around somewhere. I don't know if I can find the games though

@Geobits true
my other cat-friends still bite stuff

My GBA is in not very good condition though. The screen is just a mess
lots of scratches (not sure how that happened to be honest)

Minibits has an old GBC Pikachu edition

4:38 PM
@Geobits nice

@quartata did you check your house for kids/cats/both?

I haven't used my GBA in so long. I do remember beating the Champion in Emerald several times

No cats but there was definitely one kid in the house when I had it.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Never should sᴍᴀʟʟᴄᴀᴘs be used for evil!

4:39 PM
I've beaten everybody in the game except this one guy who has six superior Level 87 Pokemon

I thought they were dead :(

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ :P

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Are you saying you're never gonna give them up? Never gonna let them down?

never gonna give them up, except on the main site by request from moderator

Ha, I found that right as you posted it

and the first message of the sad days:
Aug 4 at 18:01, by Conor O'Brien
Bonjour

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ s/sad/happy

4:44 PM
@DrMcMoylex Agreed.

Or golfier 7wcwhappy

@DrMcMoylex giggles
I've been saying that a lot... and I'm not sure why

@DrMcMoylex -.-

The first message of the happy days clearly stars with "Sunday, Monday"

4:46 PM
Stupid clickbait

Oh hey cool I still have VTFEdit on here

@quartata Hah! Why would someone ever mine data. sweats loudly
11

@quartata at first I thought you meant you said "whappy" a lot and I was like "...wtf why?"

@mınxomaτ hahahahahaha

@quartata are you making a spray for TF2?

4:48 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ No, sprites and materials

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Well, here is the conclusion: Dennis just killed small caps. Victims, written in small caps: Eᴀꜱᴛᴇʀʟʏ Iʀᴋ, Eʀɪᴋ ᴛʜᴇ Gᴏʟꜰᴇʀ.

@quartata lol for pl_gaotward?

Huh. I just got an email from someone saying "I loved your vim code-golf answer! It's not working for me though, can you help me figure it out?"

@EriktheGolfer downgoat and zyabin just for fun, not long term

I've never been emailed about code-golf before

4:49 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ No, rd_goatpocalypse

@DrMcMoylex ... who? if you don't mind sharing
@quartata 10/10

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Oh right, I'll edit (you'll get pinged again).

@quartata what about plr_gaottower?
that sounds almost worse than helltower

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ not someone I recognize. You probably wouldn't either, or they would have just commented

I wanted to make something original, partially because decompiling TF2 maps made after 2015 is a pain in the ass

4:51 PM
@DrMcMoylex hm, okay
@quartata why?

This map is very much inspired by an old TFC map called 55
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ A few reasons
One is that TF2 has static prop lighting and no other engine has it

I think Garry added it to GMod because people were complaining a lot but other than that no
There was also a change to how packed assets were stored in TF2 I believe; can't remember what exactly
Bottom line is that a lot of the new maps are almost impossible to decompile and working with it is just a mess in general. BSP decompilers are not very good in general
For one func_details don't technically exist after compile so you have to do that by hand
Also I don't think any current decompilers handle areaportals or visclusters correctly
Not a lot of TF2 maps use the latter but I use them often so

I haven't done anything on PPCG today and I've already gotten 115 rep. 0_0

4:57 PM
@DrMcMoylex Several times I've woken up and seen +120 in my rep box
One day I hit the rep cap without posting anything, IIRC

^^ happened to me twice since I posted the I voted thing

That's very rare though, and I usually post 6 or 7 answers the day before when it happens

Both happened with same answer for me :p

Most of this (and yesterday) are my "ceeee" program
