Great news! I took out a seemingly-good disk out of my RAID array... and it booted in a degraded fashion!
good for you
I only need to replace one disk... Apparently, the drive's firmware was intermittently giving 2TiB instead of 1TB, which sent the entire array into disarray. (No pun intended).
well at least now you know what it was

Does Ubuntu support animated desktop backgrounds?

Maybe.
jrg

that just looks distracting.

My system accepts it but it isn't animated.
I am on Oneiric, though.
remember Nirmik was complaining about an animated wallpaper switcher works, but not during pre-login
@ObsessiveFOSS oh i thought you meant like a switcher not animated gif
@ObsessiveFOSS yes. a relatively irritating part is that some of the really complex/hard answers don't get upvoted near as much as popular but simple things.
@aking1012 Please see the link that says "Oh dear me no creepy gif is creepy"
@ObsessiveFOSS it made me nauseous when you one-boxed it

@Obs All I can tell you is that the card I linked is abor $35-40 USD. Even at your tender age you should be able to draw the correct conclusion.
@jokerdino started on BSD in late 90s (one of my friends liked that he could run quake windowed on his desktop) then redhat for a community college some seven years ago, then ubu for the last several
@izx What conclusion? You can get a good graphics card without breaking the bank?
@aking1012 So nice of you.
Hello all
15:58
@ObsessiveFOSS He's in India. He probably has so much less expendable income a $500 video card is out of the question
@AmithKK lies.
@aking1012 I basically didn't get to use a computer for realz for so long
and then, i will go offline in a matter of minute
@aking1012 I do realize. I am not enclosed in Anti Desitter space.
In mathematics and physics, n-dimensional anti de Sitter space, sometimes written AdS_n, is a maximally symmetric Lorentzian manifold with constant negative scalar curvature. It is the Lorentzian analogue of n-dimensional hyperbolic space, just as Minkowski space and de Sitter space are the analogues of Euclidean and elliptical spaces respectively. It is best known for its role in the AdS/CFT correspondence. In the language of general relativity, anti de Sitter space is a maximally symmetric, vacuum solution of Einstein's field equation with a negative (attractive) cosmological constant ...
@jokerdino That's fair. I always had old hardware so Linux was always more performant anyway
@aking1012 $ 500 = ₨ 27827.5000
16:00
@aking1012 fair point as well.
ok. leaving already

Apologies for being ambiguous: I am actually referring in a box whose interior is ADS, not a box that itself is ADS.
