A meta-package like this can be created with a tool called equivs which will create a package with just dependency information.
First, create a directory:
mkdir my-metapackage
cd my-metapackage/
Now run the program:
equivs-control ns-control
It will create a file called ns-control, open t...
For where you're actually providing the dependency, I'd use checkinstall to do the installation. checkinstall basically replaces make install and generates a proper .deb package and then installs that. Not only does that allow you to remove or upgrade the package in a better way (when the time co...
hey, look who answered that one
the image link isn't broken for me - I still see the package icon
It's amazing that the title-search doesn't pick those out dupes. You would have thought that as soon as "disable lightdm guest" was typed in 200 duplicate questions would pop right up.
Or it does and people just ignore them, like they ignore the "Are you sure this is an answer and not a 'me-too'?" page that new users are forced through.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/REVU for details on getting new packages in - but be aware that there are a lot of packages awaiting review there, and it can be sometimes easier to get packages in via Debian, where they can benefit even more people.
For Ubuntu, you can ask people for re...

I want to add an answer for submitting via the ARB
New versions of applications can be provided after they have made it into the development release by backports. This repository is enabled by default in 11.10, but it is not an automatic update for packages that you have installed.
Backports are built & tested mainly by volunteers, and there...
I've been debugging his code all night. He got stuck in a loop and edited the same question over and over again at around 400 edits per minute. Had to take him offline and see what was up.
Yes, you should indeed create a new branch derived from the vim Bazaar branch on Launchpad (lp:ubuntu/vim), and commit your patch to that branch.
As long as there are no conflicts when merging, the recipe will merge the two branches when one of them changes, and rebuild. This means that if there...
deserves more upvotes - jelmer is one of the LP developers & works on bzr as well
I've just made a project called tgames and want to add it at the ubuntu repository...

Can I do this or should I create a ppa???
There is a vnc module for X that can be installed which will provide the native :0 X display when connecting remotely with the vncviewer.
Install the "vnc4server" package (universe). This will provide "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libvnc.so" (The vnc.so module for VNC 4.1.2 was changed fro...
You must be looking for Printer classes (No, not school)

With Dual Monitors, when I use the Expo, it clones repeating itself in each monitor. With 10.10 I solved this with the option 'One Big Wall' but this doesn't work on 11.04
I have a nvidia 560Ti with proprietary drivers.

Since the website and wiki have been redesigned, the text is not always readable. The footer text overwrites other text, the links are not uniform colors, and the colors use blend and blur the text.
What is the proper procedure to report these and other issues with this website? I have reported...

I just downloaded sublime text 2 on my fresh install, and it comes backed in a tar.bz2 - when I extract it, how can I add it to the launcher, and make it "searchable" in the unity dash?
Well this is weird. Trying to close a question and all I can do is keep adding close votes. I've added 4 now (so there are 6 votes to close) and it just won't die.
As I said. There are no programs on the dash list (searcher on AppMenu).
Yesterday I logged into my account and I tried to find some program but there wasn't any! Additionally, I tried to view installed programs and manually find program which I looked for, but nothing was displayed :(
And toda...
@Greg you can add it to /usr/share/applications if you want it globally accessible, or on the other directory for it to be locally accessible (in that case you need to make the .desktop file executable iirc)
