5:00 PM
Hmm... @ParanoidPanda Those don't look like scientifically sound methods.

user136984
@KGIII: Well, why don't we just steal a panda and then take some of its DNA?

user136984
We could create a clone army of pandas! >:D

That will land us in prison, assuming we get caught - and we likely will considering that I know nothing about cloning animals and I'm guessing you're not an expert either.
I can clone plants, however. :/ Well, some plants.

user136984
@KGIII: Hmm... Well, we'll just have to kidnap an expert then!

@ParanoidPanda Well, I guess... If we're going to end up in some sort of prison in China then we might as well go whole hog and go for multiple crimes at this point, right?

5:08 PM
is it okay to be appalled at a subset of the user base of one of the other SE sites lol

user136984
@KGIII: Yeah, we can even arm ourselves with firearms made of bamboo!

I'm envisioning more Spaceballs than Star Wars but, okay.

user136984
@KGIII: Rings a bell, but either I saw that a long time ago, or only part of it...

Mel Brooks parody of Star Wars, a cult classic.

user136984
Right, well I'll have to watch that again some time soon! :D

5:12 PM
@Seth welcome

\o

user136984
@Rinzwind: OMG! You're right! They really are cute! :D

user136984

It's a good movie. I don't watch a lot of movies, per se, but I did enjoy that one. I do watch a lot of documentaries, however.

user136984
@KGIII: On Pandas, prison breaks, and making bamboo firearms?

5:15 PM
Wait, yes. I've seen all three in some form or another.
Bamboo was used as the barrel in old-school Chinese firearms.
I've seen lots about the giant pandas. And a bunch about various prison breaks.
I've even seen some on kidnapping AND on DNA research!
Should I stop in and pick you up at 6:00 then?

user136984
Yeah! Sounds like a plan! :D

If @ParanoidPanda and I disappear for a couple of days, call my laywer...

I'll be calling your lawyer... about seizure of assets lol
:P

user136984
:D

What do you think to my answer on this homework question? askubuntu.com/a/699704/367990

5:26 PM
I think you should be slapping the user instead

LOL @ThomasW. You might as well, we're not going to need any assets for a long, long time.

@KGIII Good, I hereby seize all your assets NOW, preventing you from following through with your plans.
Enjoy poverty.

I don't think it quite works like that. Besides! We're gonna be Jedis!

peeks at the timeline, notes that you're screwed either way, and takes assets anyways
:P

SOLVED =)

Q: Trying to install steam

IG0KillamatricRiikzI've been trying to install steam all day and I've been encountering all kinds of problems, but I'd like a little bit of help with that one.

user136984
5:31 PM
I am going to become a Sith Lord, nothing can stand in my way! >:)

another dependency hell, not les not more =)
@hg8 solved =)

At that point, we can take all the assets we want @ParanoidPanda!

And I need a review for my bad grammar =\

user136984
@KGIII: We will have full power over the galaxy once we have built our Death Panda battle station! >:)

@A.B. The review: BAD GRAMMAR. No posts for you!

5:33 PM
@ThomasW. No? ... no no soup??? -_-

the edit is worse

We just have to make sure we don't do stupid things with our ventilation shaft.

user136984
Indeed.

user139252
Oh hey, I got a star!

user136984
5:36 PM
But I thought that was an exhaust pipe was it not?

user139252
I also have the Hylian Crest tattooed on one of my shoulders :P

user139252
Stop starring me!
11

user139252
Nothing I say is ever relevant D:

@HeatherBrown How bad =)

Heh... I just found my old PayPal account. :/ It has an email attached to it that I no longer own.

user139252
5:39 PM
Better hope nobody stole all your money.

@ParanoidPanda Be careful, they're only 16/17!

user136984
@ByteCommander: So?

It looks like there's a wee bit of money left in there so nobody broke in and stole it. :D

user136984
@KGIII: Enough to get the chopper and bamboo?

@ParanoidPanda Just don't exaggerate telling how cute you find them... Might look strange
(not going to discuss this any further.)

5:42 PM
Not unless you can get a chopper for $102.97.

user136984
@ByteCommander: They are cute in a sweet panda way.

Well, that way is all right! ;-)

user136984
That's all I meant. :)

user136984
@KGIII: Maybe you can somewhere on the black market!

I assumed that, but thought it might be misinterpreted.

5:45 PM
We might be able to get cans of bamboo from the Chinese market. Once we've got the panda, we can go from there.

user139252
Why are we discussing the illegal purchase of wildlife?

user136984
Why don't we construct a bamboo chopper?

We can do that. I'll find an appropriate documentary.
So we can become Sith Lords @HeatherBrown, why else?

user136984
@ByteCommander Well, I hope everyone else sees their panda resemblance and then reads my username... :P

user136984
@KGIII: You really are our knowledge bank! :D

5:47 PM
Have documentaries, will travel @ParanoidPanda.

user139252
@KGIII I thought you had to slaughter a building full of innocent children to become a Sith lord.

Oh no, we're just going to borrow a panda for cloning. We're also going to let it sleep in a human bed and feed it chocolate cake, bamboo, and stuff. We're panda experts now.

user139252
That sounds pretty humane, actually. I don't think you're allowed to be humane as a Sith lord.

user139252
You might become a Jedi, though. If you're nice enough to the panda and are force-sensitive.

We have plans for after the fact... Well, no, we don't actually.

user136984
5:51 PM
@HeatherBrown: Don't tell @KGIII, but I am actually going to become a Sith Lord and our Panda is going to train me in the dark ways of the force (I will kill innocent bamboo)! >:P

We are going to kidnap a human. So, there's that. We need a cloning expert.

user136984
:D

user139252
Why not find a volunteer?

user139252
I have a cousin who's studying genetics, I'm sure she wouldn't mind helping.

5:52 PM
I wonder when the stupidity level of this room was as high as now the last time...

Who is going to volunteer to help us clone a stolen panda and become Sith Lords? I'd not want to associate with such a person!

user139252
You'll have to travel to Munich to pick her up, though. She's pretty tapped on cash after visiting me last month.

I guess this was when @Virusboy posted pictures of bacon-bras... :p

user136984
@ByteCommander: What? :D

user139252
That does not sound comfortable...

user139252
5:54 PM
Bras are uncomfortable as is, please don't make them salty.

We have a budget of $102. And what panda can scrape up from under the couch cushions.

@ParanoidPanda The posts with the original pictures were deleted, but it happened around there:
Apr 9 at 0:57, by Virusboy
The Bacon Bra

There's even a bacon bikini as I recall.

user136984
@ByteCommander:

user136984
5:57 PM

Google Image Search finds quite a few. I'll not link them, however. I have some standards and I think it would be inappropriate to do so in this particular chat.

^ Thank you!

user136984
@KGIII: Yes, I think VirusBoy actually got suspended for that... :D

And the missus now wants to know why I am chuckling, I explained bacon bikinis and she just looked at me like I am a lunatic.
2
She Who Must Be Obeyed is telling me that it is time to go eat soon. I think it might be the idea of bacon.

I can understand her...

user136984
6:02 PM
@KGIII: No, you are receiving subliminal messaging from BAMBOO! It is time to eat it and become one with the panda inside you!

Well, we're probably going to go eat Chinese food so, maybe? Boiled bamboo is in some of the dishes. I'm kind of hoping for a sandwich shop. I'm actually in the mood for tuna. :/

user136984
:D

@KGIII I'm in the mood for Quiche Lorraine now, but I'm surely not going to have this now... :-/

Room service does quiche but only on Sundays. I've yet to try it.

user136984
I love Quiches!

user136984
6:05 PM
:D

@Serg A question for you, my master of the AWK! askubuntu.com/q/699693/367990 ;-D
@ParanoidPanda @KGIII In my opinion, they're best with some bacon and broccoli in them!

The one the hotel makes has ham, spinach, tomato, and cheese. It looks good in the picture. They only make it on Sundays though and we've gone out to eat instead of relying on room service every Sunday so far.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Ooh! Broccoli! :D

I don't like quiches, but I'm a texture person.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Weren't you going to lock me in your basement and only feed me broccoli at one point? :D

6:16 PM
He folks, that's really frustrating. 3 hours work and 55 comments for this answer and only one UV? :\

@ParanoidPanda That was because I assumed you would hate it, as my little brother does! ;)
@A.B. Which one?

user136984
:D

@ByteCommander This one askubuntu.com/a/699709/367165

I have about 4 votes left...

I've got some left.

user136984
6:17 PM
I'm about to eat some broccoli now actually! ;D

There ya go @A.B..

a downvote on a topic from 2012 :P
some people

@Rinzwind I can feel with you - really ! :)

@ParanoidPanda Thx =)

@A.B. Already upgoated that one! =)

kos
6:20 PM
@KGIII In the end I've come up with this:

@A.B. done.

kos
#!/bin/bash
wget -O - manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages.gz/wily/en/man1 | sed -n '/<pre>/,/<\/pre>/{/<\/\?pre>/!s/.*"\(.*\)".*/\1/p}' >list
i=0
j="$(wc -l list | cut -d ' ' -f 1)"
while read x; do
	name="${x%%.*}"
	echo -ne "Downloading / decompressing / converting $i/$j ($name)..."
	printf "\e[K\r"
	wget -O - "http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages.gz/wily/en/man1/$x" 2>/dev/null | gzip -d | man2html >"$name.html"
	((i++))
done <list
echo "Done."

@ByteCommander thx =)

\o

kos
6:20 PM
@KGIII It's a bit slow, but it batch download / decompress / convert every man 1 page to HTML. Give it a shot if you want

@kos Saved it for now - I'm going to test them all tonight. :D

kos
@NathanOsman o/

\me not frustrated longer.
=)

@kos in true tradition of linux you should only output something if there is an error. Otherwise do no echo :=)

user136984

user136984
6:21 PM
@Terrance: Upgoats! ;D

@ParanoidPanda is that you there on the right?

@kos Make sure to add it as an answer. ;-)

@kos yeah =)

kos
@A.B. Done ;)

@ParanoidPanda LOL! =)

user136984
6:22 PM
@Rinzwind: Oh yeah, I'm the ginger one! ;D

user136984
@Terrance: It says "Image not found".

Heh... A neighbor, back home, has fainting goats. :D They're as awesome as you might think.

@ParanoidPanda Hmmm, it was working for me. Maybe a URL blocked from where you're at. No biggie

kos
@KGIII Let me know if it's fine first, it's going to be a a bit consuming to be added as an answer. :D If you want to just see an example of the result you can run this: wget -O - "http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages.gz/wily/en/man1/tree.1.gz" 2>/dev/null | gzip -d | man2html >"tree.html"

Starts the Go 1.5.1 build...

6:24 PM
Alright - I'll do that tonight or when I get back. The missus wants to go to eat soon. :D

user136984
@Terrance: Yeah, I just installed uMatrix so it's probably blocking the URL.

user136984
But if you upload it to imgur I will probably see it.

kos
@Rinzwind Ok, I'll let the user blindly wait for hours for the sake of the Linux tradition. :D

@ParanoidPanda It was just a loading gif is all.

Installing man2html while she's finishing getting ready.

kos
6:26 PM
@KGIII Indeed. :D

user136984
@Terrance: Ok, by the way, how are you doing in terms of rep? :)

@ParanoidPanda 3600 now. =)

user136984
Cool! :)

user136984
You're able to cast votes now then?

Yessir! =)

user136984
6:27 PM
@KGIII: How about you, how are you in terms of rep? :)

@kos That looks pretty good. :D

user136984
Enough to get some people to help us with the panda business? ;D

Had a little fun writing this one this morning.

user136984
Also, why don't you get Nathan's script?

@ParanoidPanda I'm nearing 900 but I've been pretty slow for a couple of days. :D
@ParanoidPanda It's installed, I've just not refreshed my browser in days. LOL I turned it off at one point, for some reason or another.

user136984
6:29 PM
:D Well, turn it on again then!

Ah - I think I'd turned it off because I was flipping between tabs a lot and didn't want the noise. :D
I'll get to it when I get back. grins I've gotta go eat.
I shall return! MUAHAHAH!

I can't get the script to work or load for some reason. :(

user136984
@KGIII: You shall return in a long black cape with a light sabre! >:D

user136984
With a Panda on your back!

kos
@KGIII :D. I'll post an answer in a while then.

user136984
6:35 PM
@Terrance: Have you got the new or the old version of @Nathan's script?

@ParanoidPanda Don't know. All I know is that it would only show the code to me, but never install. :(

user136984
Are you running Firefox?

user136984
And have you got a (even a broken) version installed?

Yes, and Chrome. And whatever I am in the mood for. :)
I tried Chrome. I tried Firefox. No go.

user139252
What do you guys see at this site?

6:37 PM
I will be away from my keyboard for a little while, so it make take me a bit to respond to anything.

@HeatherBrown "Virtual gamepad."

user139252
Okay, my ports are right, then.

@HeatherBrown Is that your home server?

user136984
I am growing a beard!

@ParanoidPanda Pandas can grow beards? Aren't you furry enough already?

user136984
6:52 PM
:D

user139252
@ByteCommander yes, it is.

user139252
Why?

user139252
Before, it was forwarding all web traffic to my Transmission web-client, which is not what I wanted. I just wanted to make sure it was forwarding to the game-pad.

Oh, I just thought it because of the ddns domain name and wanted to confirm that. :-)

user139252
Yeah, I'm poor for the next 2 weeks, so no real domain yet.

6:55 PM
Who the heck flagged that?

Good question.

Whoever it was, don't abuse flags. There's been just about enough of that recently.

user139252
I'm a very offensive person, of course.

can anybody tell me why this script is not working?
cat /etc/pm/sleep.d/99touchpad
#!/bin/sh

Q: How to Install redshift plasmoid?

TotemUsing Ubuntu 15.10 I am trying to follow the instructions here to install the redshift plasmoid GUI, and cannot find the redshift root directory, does anyone know where this should be located? I've used the find and locate commands to search for any directories and files called "redshift" to no ...

@ArtOfCode Indeed :)

@ParanoidPanda Flags appeared, I was summoned.

Also... I wonder if this works on non-Surface hardware.
None of my portable computers have gigabit ethernet.

user136984
7:08 PM
@ArtOfCode: Ah, nice profile picture by the way. :)

@ParanoidPanda Purple spiral? It's OK, I guess :)

user136984
Yeah, it looks quite beautiful actually, but maybe that's because I can only see a very small version of it... But I think it looks quite nice. :)

@NathanOsman can you take a look at my code?

@ParanoidPanda You missed nothing.
But I leave now. Good night!

user136984
@ByteCommander: Ok, goodnight! :)

7:16 PM
@ByteCommander Good night my friend :)

@edwardtorvalds Which code?

user136984
@Serg: Have you made your mind up about BABYMETAL yet by the way? :)

@NathanOsman

@cl-netbox here?

@edwardtorvalds please give me the link again :)

@edwardtorvalds What is it supposed to do?

user136984
7:19 PM
Does anyone know how to unfollow someone on GitHub? Because I've accidentally just followed that ducky guy instead of blocking him (which is what I intended to do) and I can't find the unfollow button...

@NathanOsman whenever my computer resumes or suspend it will echo, ref: askubuntu.com/a/428212/294611

@edwardtorvalds I think that should work.

@ParanoidPanda Should be the same place as the follow button.

@NathanOsman thats the problem, it is not, i cant find that file

@edwardtorvalds Which user is the script run as?

user136984
7:21 PM
@ArtOfCode: Well, when I pressed it, it just disappeared so now I can't find it...

@ParanoidPanda Reload?

@NathanOsman of course root

user136984
Tried that...

or let me check
yes, root

@edwardtorvalds I'm not sure why it isn't running, I'm not terribly familiar with the power management daemon.

7:22 PM
@edwardtorvalds : I cannot write something in your room - you have to grant access. :)

ok
@cl-netbox refest

user136984
Does the person in question get any sort of notification that you have followed them?

@ParanoidPanda I don't think so, though they can find it if they want the information.

user136984
:(

user136984
Well, I do hope I figure this out before he next looks!

user136984
7:24 PM
Hmm... I might have fixed it, can you just check if Nathan is the only one I'm now following here?

Nope, I also see a "wolfboyt".

user136984
Oh dear...

user136984
This is not good, and not at all what I need at the moment...

user136984
Well, I'm sure I'll figure something out, thanks for the help! :)

@ParanoidPanda I was just trying to work out if I had a button to do it for you, then I realise mods aren't a thing on GH.

user136984
7:27 PM
:D

Far too used to mod powers.

user136984
@ArtOfCode: Well, he's likely to be in bed now so hopefully I will have figured it out by tomorrow! Maybe uMatrix is blocking it or something! :D

shrug

user136984
Ooh! I pressed "block user" and it unfollowed him! :D

user136984
Phew...

Q: Ubuntu 15.10 mini iso preseed not reccognized

DanyI downloaded an Ubuntu mini iso from the Ubuntu website and want to do a fully automated install. I created a preseed file(preseed) I created an image with this file in the iso. When i try to start it with the following contents in the txt.cfg. It asks me all questions and nothing seems to be ...

@ParanoidPanda You're only following me now from what I can see.

user136984
@Nathan: Good. :)

@NathanOsman Following you on what?

@Terrance GitHub.

@NathanOsman Ah. I see. Maybe I need to follow you as well. =)

7:39 PM
what did you guys do now to get ArtOfCode in here? :P

@Seth Somebody flagged something.

kos
Before I report this, any good explanation for why the tag score reported in the reputation box in the profile when tracking a tag badge doesn't match at all?

@NathanOsman I figured haha.
@kos tag scores are heavily cached.. so I assume it got lost somewhere in there.

kos
@Seth Seems unlikely, they cache the same value 2 different times? Also if I click the wheel to choose another tag the score is reported correctly.

@kos I was more thinking they drew the value from two different places. But the second thing is definitely weird.
if you want, consider asking the folks here:

 Tavern on the Meta

MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS AND BACKLOG! General friendly chit-...

kos
7:47 PM
@Seth Anyway the gap is also significant (305 reported vs 387 actual). Thanks, I'll ask there or post on Meta.SE. I was curious if it was only for me though

 Owls (AKA The Screeching Room)

If it isn't owls, we don't have it. For the rest refer to chat...

@terdon @kos can you help me with a script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ ?

hey guys
can you help me with something?
