@FEichinger Wow Eliah Kagan is being mean to you! XD

Mar 30 at 17:52, by FEichinger
@Seth I got Eliah'd.

@FEichinger Yeah. I'm actually quite scared of him XD

Nothing to be scared of.

oh. really.
Heeeey I finally have something on-topic to discuss!
People who say "computers will be outdated! All you'll need is a smartphone and that's all!" are dead in my eyes in a technological view. There is no way a measly, ridiculous 'smart'phone could ever be a replacement for a computer. EVER.
Step 2: Install Ubuntu Touch
Step 3: You have a *real* phone.
But Ubuntu Touch hasn't been released finally and officially yet, so all smartphones are ridiculous.
No-ones here
wut

It's all your fault @Mochan @AmithKK!

1:14 PM
people are here. saying you have something to discuss isn't the same as saying what you have to discuss

@FEichinger What is? That this place is as dead as my great-great-gradmother?

@Mochan ... Yes.

@CallmeV hm. point taken. point eaten. point digested.
@FEichinger Right.
Discussion: Welp, my desktop disappeared.

That's ... uhm ... not good, I guess.

@FEichinger It's not that bad I don't think. There are no desktop icons, I can't click on the desktop, and yeah... that's about it.
But to get it back would be nice c:
OK so no-one can help. yay

@CallmeV ty
@CallmeV didn't work? :(

if you're using a different DE lauching nautilus wouldn't do it. it's specific to which DE afaik
you could always ask a question on-site...

@CallmeV I'm using Unity, but I also have GNOME3.8 installed, is that a problem?>
One sec

@Mochan Time up!

@Mahesh oh darn
Wah.. I'm going to bed night guys.

A: Where can I suggest spell check improvements?

RinzwindBoth Chromium and IE do not not underline the word curation on my system. From the context menu I assume Chromium uses Google translate. Firefox does underline it. Select the word and right click. You will see an option 'add to dictionary'. After adding it the line is no longer marked. If they...

@Rinzwind nice. you already had the upvote from me though. i can't upvote it further

take my UV instead ;)

@ændrük is that more to your liking? >:)
It started nagging me ;-)

Anybody who has a good android device and want to play a game?
I want whoever to complete SF acts 1 and bossP

@Rinzwind You get points for effort, but I think you might still be missing the purpose of my question. To no fault of your own, of course. There seems to be some incorrect assumption viewers are making that I'm failing to prevent.

1:54 PM
hmmm if you still think so there probably is >:DDD
want to try again? >:D

@Rinzwind upboated.

stop upvoting! he is NOT happy yet >:D

We are.

and I do not want upvotes for answers the questioneer is not happy with :D

But what if I am happy to see that all applications use the same dictionaires?

1:56 PM
yeah that really surprised me too :D I was wtf... when did that happen!?

Well, I was hoping for a general answer, not one about a specific application. It seems that my example screenshot is functioning as a red herring.

aha

I don't even use Firefox.

well you got LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org, Mozilla Firefox 3 & Thunderbird, Google Chrome, and it is also used by proprietary software packages, like Mac OS X, InDesign, memoQ, Opera and SDL Trados covered >:D

My screenshot is from your beloved Chromium.

1:57 PM
aha. in MY chromium I did NOT get an underline >:DDDDDD
so the hunt starts for chromium and dicts >:D

It's the best answer I think you can get. Until there's a USC requirement to use a particular dictionary there's nothing you can do about fractured dicts

@ændrük The fact of the matter is that there is no such thing as a central resource for these things. With that premise, your question is unanswerable.

@Rinzwind Yes, almost by accident though. :) The only thing missing is advice on what to do for any other application.

The spellcheckers are not part of Ubuntu. They are part of the applications.

the answer probably is specific for chromium :X

1:58 PM
File a bug against the relevant package... good enough for me

MAYBE chromium used the old MySPELL

It uses hunspell and the webkit built-in according to this: blog.chromium.org/2009/02/…

@FEichinger The absence of a centralized spelling dictionary does not preclude my question from having an answer. There is nothing wrong with posting an answer to the effect of "1) Find out which dictionary the affected application uses, here's a link to how to do that. 2) File a bug against that dictionary, here's a link to how to file bugs."

HA! Chromium also uses hunspell
late
darn @Takkat you found the same url

2:00 PM
it must be the difference of using gtransate vs not.

> The user should be able to simply start typing in a text box (email, comment, doc etc) and the spell checking system keeps pace to update itself to the language the user is typing in.

@Mahesh hi.
got some stuff to bounce to and fro.

o/

So if a word is only in one single locale dictionary it will not be underlined. Source: chromium.org/developers/design-documents/advancedspellchecker only two languages are supported simultaneously.

"You can also help by reviewing word lists of words we've identified as popular but not in the dictionary. Please contact brettw AT chromium.org if you are interested."

2:02 PM
@jokerdino one was a silly bug that went unnoticed and two others were same bug that was caused due to an update to Gtk introspection

yes i saw it. the silly bug was thanks to me.
and other one, is it fixable?

Not without having a diff between quantal and raring.
one-line change, but we will have a diff nevertheless.

Is it on line execution or on file load?

maybe, we stop maintaining both releases now.

@jokerdino O_O
the community will be enraged.

2:05 PM
If it's on line execution just check lsb-release for dist number and put in a couple of lines to decide

err, i mean, we don't maintain both of them together?

now I hope you are happy :P @ændrük >:)

@CallmeV totally possible, but that would clutter the code.
@jokerdino okay then. :P :D

@Mahesh btw, can you split commit 0f7378765?

0f737
8765
done >:)

2:07 PM
Nooooo

It is already committed and pushed publicly. so not a good idea probably.
but do you want the debian/changelog entry to be a separate commit?

yes. ideally
switch to IRC pls?

shouldn't a bug fix and its changelog entry go together?
@jokerdino hopping on.

@Takkat he is still not happy. Now what :*(

depending on the edit, you could maybe do it in __init__ and make something like:
if self.get_dist() <= 12.10: maintainable_patch = function without your line changes
else: maintainable_patch = function with your line changes

def something():
  ...
  maintainable_patch()
  ...

2:09 PM
@Rinzwind hmm. Wait?

@Rinzwind I'm still pondering the situation.

lol >:D
can I ponder with you? >:)
eh puppy linux!? wtg

@CallmeV Yeah, actually I will have to check the installed version of a particular package. people who used ppas to upgrade on quantal also have the bug.
something on similar lines is to be done.

or a simple try catch/except block if it actually raises instead of fails silently
if the module has a __version__ string then you're golden anyway...

@CallmeV the module is an introspection binding. loaded dynamically.
it doesn't even exist in python.
they do some trickery to make it work in python by interfacing with Cpp
Thanks for the suggestions. We will probably make a diff anyway since there are other changes that we maintained using tricks.
time to get rid of all workarounds.

2:16 PM
fair enough.

actually, I like the try catch idea. very pythonic.

I installed Ubuntu in my pc. But, pc directly boot to windows 7. How can I access in Ubuntu??
Windows 7 was already installed my pc.
is there any easy solution for dual booting??

@YasirAdnan do you see a grub menu at start? If not you probably can install it from the ubuntu live cd with the repair

No I can't see any grub menu
It directly boot
in windows 7

2:31 PM
hm, thats odd
usually grub overwrites ntldr
@YasirAdnan: did you use the ubuntu installer from windows/wubi?

2:44 PM
@JourneymanGeek it sure does :) if not you get a failed install notice

yup
even when you don't want it to ;p
you can't unstall grub to an alternate location with ubuntu
for some reason

µ, really?

Letting the name go, relatively inexpensive transparent oled display that can operate as a serial slave.

Q: Mystery of a small 1K hard disk partition, and is it safe or malware on Ubuntu 12.04.02LTS Amd64 generic

user36849Look at my bizarre sda4 partition. It is just 1K in size! Be mindful that this is not cluster size, this is partition size. I did not knowingly install this sda4 super small partition. Be mindful that this is not my boot partition, this is some other thing. I can't seem to find anyone else wit...

jrg
@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L lol

Yes, malware tends to arbitrarily create tiny partitions to hide in.

not to mention if it was able to escalate privileges far enough to be able to create partitions, surely it would hide itself in a more meaningful way.
sudo run_this_thing_i_downloaded_from_a_promiscuous_site <-- WAT

that guy could have made a lot of money if he wanted to.

You should just custom flag it and explain with the right link.

@Rinzwind Hahahaha i know i know

4:46 PM
Everyone makes mistakes >:D I've seen a mod totally mess up in closing a question.

@Seth you do not get judged on a false flag ;-)
like I said before: Marco Ceppi spent 10, 15 minutes on an answer I seriously massacred myself(it was one with several bullets in eachother) .

@Rinzwind LOL

yeah and when he was finished I was so WTF this is easy how he did this _O-

lol.
Yeah, you don't get judged on a false flag.
If your ratio is pretty bad you might need a little explaining, but that's all.

so true. you probably need to be a seriously bad user.
I need 1 more good question! anyone got 1 for me to answer?
AND WHO STARRED THAT? Now Marco will be all over me >:X

@Ashu No worries. TBH I've made at least 5 totally wrong flags myself. At least 5. More like 7.

891 helpful flags... now where do I see the BAD flags? >:X

4:55 PM
You have to scroll through them all to find them.

those disputed might all be cuz the person edited the answer after the flag :X
