10:07 AM
@Mochan Looks like it.

this is the most activity we've had in the afternoon :P

I don't really pay them much mind.

@Mochan yep

Ads tend to be automated, for that matter.

@badp Hey, I worked on some of them :P

10:07 AM
I'm more interested to find out if the lack of a libcore.so file might be what's keeping Unity from launching

@badp +1

There's always activity when I'm here

...sadly Unity launches more completely from within XFCE than it does from within the default environment
I mean, it kinda replaced the window decorations.

@Mochan That's because you're awesome and all!

I miss the days when I used to dominate the star board. Those days are long gone XD

10:09 AM
It also doesn't complain about libcore.so anymore. Sigh.

@FEichinger Tell me something I don't know XD

@Mochan You are a sneaky, sneaky ninja-editor!

@FEichinger Quite

@Mochan Indeed.

@Mochan the chat broke him

Q: Reading ReStructured text on android?

Amith KKI found/got referred to this book : http://www.djangobook.com/ Which had a github page having file in the .rst(ReStructuredText) format. What is a format that I can compile this to so that it can be read by some app on an android device and how?

@AmithKK text editor should do.
or write your own app to display rest as formatting
or compile it to html or pdf

@Mahesh how ?

10:57 AM
gimme a second
and pdflatex can make pdf out of latex.
python sphinx can make latex out of rest
I'm looking at better ways.
sudo apt-get install rst2pdf

@Mahesh Can it do it with index and stuff like that?
Like, just pdi-ize the whole book so that I can import to aldiko

it probably does.
check it.
/me posting answer on android.se

11:22 AM
@AmithKK o/

yawn

boring..

Yep. Change that.

impossible :c

Nah.

11:27 AM
I just did a paid survey... 1,000 more points and I get 20 goddamn dollars...
"Paid" survery my ass

... o.ô

Yah... 20c per survey if you think about it
Why do I do this to myself? XD
Anything for some moolah on the side. Almost anything.

The star list doesn't really read "almost".

I think that I permanently scarred my poor little PIII forcing it to compile gcc tonight. :-(

@badp It is back in the Bridge. sigh

11:35 AM
It's making so much noise even the cats won't come near.

@FEichinger :3
@maggotbrain :(

@Mochan :P

@FEichinger :)

@Mochan We've never heard it make that noise before... ;-)

@maggotbrain Another discovery made by mankind!

11:40 AM
@Mochan Who knew that compilation was a cat repellent...

@maggotbrain Any side effects encountered yet?

@maggotbrain Hahaha. See a wild cat coming at you: compilecompilecompile

"In the jungle, always keep an Arduino on you."

make. make. make. sudo make install...RUN KITTY!

@FEichinger +1
@maggotbrain GOGOGO!
In front of a tiger: "Aw man... I'll have to try to compile something on a computer with Intel Celeron CPU..."

11:44 AM
Exactly.
Just make sure that the case is off so the fans whirrr at an ungodly volume. It helps.

@maggotbrain +1
Lol try to compile on Raspberry Pi XD
Poor baby don't hurt it XD

@Mochan Paid surveys are only a good modus operandi for indie game devs for in-game currency to players due to volume of completion. (Operation7 did this)

@CallmeV Meh. Money is yay.

OH MY GOD, IT'S MAGIC!

@FEichinger :D

11:49 AM
=)
Anyways, see you in a couple of minutes, guys.

12:02 PM
sigh
everything is going wrong today

I must have borrowed your today luck yesterday. I pulled a hat-trick+1 out.

gratz :D

back

mysql server fell over and did not want to restart... took the whole of this morning to fix.. and the fix was going back to the backup

... oh noes ...

12:07 PM
ibdata1 was corrupted... was a 18Gb large file :Z
fun :-P

There's a first, last, and always rule to be had there:
backup first, last, and always *similar to fire first, last, and always, but in reverse*

Anybody here?
appears

@CallmeV well we proved that the backup worked :)

@Mochan Still there?

@AmithKK yup

12:15 PM
@Rinzwind Yes. I knew a company that had a backup system running, but they never tested it. Guess what happened when they tried to restore? rageface
glad it worked out for you though

@AmithKK Good call tagging me, I wouldn't have bothered to check back otherwise XD

@oli hi-jacking my comments?
@CallmeV I got a story for you...

@Mochan You never care about us!

@FEichinger Well, there's no use denying it.
Haha just kidding.

@Mochan Y_Y

12:16 PM
company made a backup for 5 years... at 17:00 they put in a tape and made a backup. At some point in time in the morning the backup asked for a 2nd volume. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo they put back in the tape it spit out .....
4
needless to say that when the server crashed and needed to be restored there was no backup.
well a partial backup that is.

Q: Why is reputation required for "Trusted User" privilege greater than "Access to moderator tools"?

green7I was looking at the privileges and found that the reputation required for the trusted user privilege is more than that required for access to moderator tools. Why is it so? Does this mean that moderators are not trusted users? Or does this imply that a foundation of trust is not necessary to ob...

Can someone confirm the gir1.2-gtk-3.0 version ijn raring?

Hey mods

 Off-Topic African Zoo

For all off-topic conversations in the Ask Ubuntu Chat Network
Move all this to here :P
@fossfreedom @Oli

12:32 PM
@AmithKK @jokerdino @RolandiXor

@AmithKK move what?

@fossfreedom re: bug #1165909 you reported on LP, can you confirm the version of gir1.2-gtk-3.0 you have installed?

@fossfreedom All offtopic anime/lol stuff

@fossfreedom The last half an hour.

@CallmeV Thanks. :)

12:33 PM
What is so confusing about this question? Three people seem to think I'm asking about AU itself and and two think that adding words to my local dictionary is relevant.

can anyone give me a list of this deb file: codeandweb.com/texturepacker/start-download?os=ubuntu64

@Mahesh that unity-tweak bug? Whatever version raring comes with - I wouldnt have upgraded/downgraded it.

@FEichinger >:P

@ændrük afaik the dictionary is in the browser not the website, so you can't fix it on the au end

@ændrük I do find it confusing since there is NO central database. It is ALL local.

12:34 PM
@Mochan Hey, I didn't say "Everything since Mochan hopped in." :P

I'm asking how to contribute to Ubuntu, not customize it for myself.

@FEichinger I'm always worth having around, even if everything I say is off-topic

@fossfreedom Okay. Assuming you have no ppas enabled, that must be it. :)

@Mochan Yes, you are. Gaspinator.
2

@FEichinger le gasp

12:35 PM
@ændrük there is no contributing for Ubuntu :=)

@ændrük This has nothing to do with Ubuntu, though. It's Firefox.

Whatever mechanism(s) Ubuntu uses for spell checking don't work as well as I would like, so I'm interested in improving them for everyone.

@Gaspinator again?

@ændrük file a bug against the package that holds the dictionary asking for a word add then

@ændrük sorry!? you still assume Ubuntu is responsible for the underlining?

12:36 PM
I can imagine foss selecting everything lol

@AmithKK Yeah, I'm not sure who that is. Care to enlighten me?

@ændrük The spellcheck is done by firefox. To verify, if you have access to Firefox on windows, check if the same word is underlined there.

@Mahesh firecox? O_O
3

2 mins ago, by FEichinger
@Mochan Yes, you are. Gaspinator.

@AmithKK Who?

12:37 PM
@Mahesh heck I already proved it is not. CHROMIUM does not underline and takes its data from the web directly

Cmon. don't stare at me like that

if yes, you should consider contributing to firefox.

@Rinzwind Woo! Chromium! \o/
@Mahesh I think you mean firecox. DAMN IT WHY DID YOU EDIT THAT!?

@Mochan it uses google translate ;-)

12:38 PM
yeah. I do. :?

Thank you @fossfreedom

@fossfreedom Hahahahahahahahaaaaaa thanks hahaha

@Mochan :P

@Rinzwind chromium does squiggly underline it for me. maybe en-gb vs en-us?

@Mochan You just see what you want to see. There is no "Firecox" there.

12:39 PM
@CallmeV not for me :D
I am using dutch btw >:)
(and it is NOT a dutch word)
Nevertheless: Ubuntu has nothign to do with it >:D

agreed
Yeah, that's what I meant. It might not try to trans from en-gb to en-us but it would be in the look-up if it tried generic translation. (or something similar)

jrg
@AmithKK ok

Thank you, your responses demonstrated more clearly to me the misunderstandings people have of my question. I'll work on rewording it.

@jrg oh... @jrg you would soooo kill me if you see what state this room was in

@ændrük I'm fairly certain the misunderstandings are on your end.

jrg
12:45 PM
@Mochan i'm looking at the stars, and I see enough that I want to say away.

@jrg Haha
:P
@jrg Move all of those too please :P

@jrg ah..haha...
@AmithKK no!!!

This is why you always need someone sane around @Mochan.
Else the chat turns into ... Well ... that.

@FEichinger lies
@FEichinger rule 34 hahahahahahaha

@Mochan ♥

12:47 PM
@FEichinger \o/

@Mochan I'm glad you learned something new today. :P

@FEichinger This off-topic chat has been very educational
6

@FEichinger It's possible he's going to reword it "how can I get a word added to the global dictionary for firefox for all users in all locations" which goes back to filing a bug against the browser dictionary and requesting a word add or some other change in the browser

@CallmeV Which I'd consider off-topic here.

@fossfreedom Awwwww :(

@FEichinger That's possible. It could get duped to how do I file a bug with a friendly comment about the package name

@FEichinger It is off-topic.

Also, why does it always have to look like I started it? >.<

@FEichinger You did start it.

12:51 PM
@Mochan No, I didn't!

@Mochan かわいい :-/

@FEichinger Yes you did.
@maggotbrain !? No it's not!

@Mochan No, I didn't!

@Mochan 悪 ?

@maggotbrain 怖い

jrg
12:52 PM
guys, stop.

@maggotbrain Yeah that works too
@jrg puppy eyes

Oli
Hey, let's try to keep it mildly sane in here. I will timeban people to keep the noise down.

Guys
Go to the room!

@FEichinger nevermind, still doesn't get it

@AmithKK sniff, sniff...

12:54 PM
@Mochan Well, according to other people, because it happens to be running on Ubuntu, it is on-topic.

@FEichinger Are you serious?

@Mochan Yes.

@FEichinger Who said that?

@Mochan meta.askubuntu.com/a/5691/98085 Comments section.
