There are very few laptops nowadays except for those business class products that are more for portable roadshow purposes that fit your wants (you have described them before.).
@RoryAlsop Oh, I do understand that. There are a few frustrations I have with OS X (mostly Apple randomly breaking C libraries between versions) but I have not found a Linux DE I like more than what Apple offers yet.
So I'm leaning towards OS X + Vagrant more and more.
@kalina If it's just Windows software that's the issue, a MacBook Pro + VMware Fusion might be a good option. We have a lot of folks here who work that way. Our corp standard dev laptop is now a MacBook Pro, and they just run Visual Studio/SQL Server/IIS via VMware Fusion.
Give me a machine with 4 USB ports, a firewire, an SP/DIF, full audio connectivity, at least one serial port (maybe no parallel port) and a couple of HDMI's, and I'm reasonably happy
@TerryChia it's flat to the deck and the palm rejection on the thinkpad that I have sucks, so you'll be typing away and suddenly cursor jump. My elitebook has it nicely recessed so that doesn't happen
@RoryAlsop Yep, once I get a new Macbook (this will have to wait till I get out of the army sadly), I'm planning to use Thunderbolt to daisy chain things like monitors, keyboards and mice on my desk. So a single plug to connect all my peripherals when I'm working at home and easy to remove when I'm out an about.
@RoryMcCune The only issue is that the COM port changes depending on which USB port it's plugged into, and since I don't use it frequently enough to remember which is which, that can be a hassle.
@RоryMcCune My firewall's taken to cratering itself nearly every time it power cycles, so I'm getting more and more use out of mine, since I have to connect via console to flash the firmware.
@TerryChia seriously. Often I will open a folder, and forget why the hell I'm there. Or open a browser, and in the fraction of a second it takes to open up, forget where I was going.
Meh, still have no idea if I should get into producing. It would consume some of my free time that could be dedicated to something else that has a better chance to work out.

Kicking in chat is pretty useless and/or pointless. Everything that happens when you are kicked is, you are sent to the room list. There's no kick message, no "kicked by" message, no kick reason, nothing. For all a user knows, it's either a transient bug or a network hiccup. How is that useful?

Currently, moderators can kick users out of a room. I've done this to two users now, and they just come right back into the room. I conclude that it's not effective for its presumed purpose (slowing down trolls or other troublemakers, on a room-specific basis).
I propose that a delay be impose...
a 'Kick' is only effective when it displays a reason message, i personally use it on my server as a form of stopping someone, but mainly for warning, because a black screen with the text "You have been kicked for: [reason]" has quite an impact, since its right in your face.
@ManishEarth there are people who either ignore or don't see it in the heat of something, depends on the situation, kicking (in the way i do it) makes a warning or message perfectly clear
