@RоryMcCune It's not music if it doesn't have a real instrument in it?
@RоryMcCune My favourite tweet from yesterday: I fell downstairs with my guitar; accidentally wrote a 1 Direction song.
9
@kalina well apart from @RoryAlsop and you I'm old yeah
I have grandparents that are younger than you
3
...probably
@RoryAlsop LOL
@kalina hmmmm - possible I guess. In some parts of the UK
12:00
@kalina unless you're from Gallifrey that seems unlikely :op
@RoryAlsop given that @kalina is 50 it seems tricky
@RоryMcCune hahahaha
@Nick huh. now cant unhear it.
@RоryMcCune Unless she's referring to @RoryAlsop of course.
sigh, Doctor Who is lame
@TerryChia so wait you're saying that @RoryAlsop is @kalina's grandfather.... plot twist central!
12:01
@kalina ahh - now I see why you are bored. Brain not wired up correctly. Right - get the Clockwork Orange eye stirrups...you need to watch all the Dr Who episodes in a row.
@RoryAlsop no, unrelated
Doctor Who is just copy and paste from every other sci fi show with a goofy lead character
@kalina you have it the wrong way round
@kalina Nope!
@RoryAlsop I don't
Dr. Who defined all those shows
12:03
BTW whoever recommended the Steelseries siberia headphones, thanks they're pretty nice :)
@kalina flagged for offensive stupidity
@kalina doctor who started in 1963 xD
It's a well known fact that many Doctor Who scripts are rejected material from other sci fi writers
@Nick The original series did yes
@RоryMcCune You mean python -c "print 'great-'*1000000000 + 'grandfather'" right?
@kalina s/well known/made up
12:04
@kalina "Well known fact" well that means ... you know it.. and maybe your family? xD
@TerryChia pfffft
I like how Doctor Who fans always pull the 1963 nonsense like the show has been on consecutively since
@Nick It's on the internet
are you arguing with the internet?
@kalina ahh well then it MUST be true.
@kalina It's not even on consecutively each year:-)
@kalina or being pedantic with it. cc @AviD
so many pings
12:06
I think there are only 7 or 8 episodes I have never seen. And a couple of those I will never see as they are lost
unless time travel
@RoryAlsop i really want to watch all the classic episodes, but most of them are hard to find.
even the ones that are not "lost".
listen, Doctor Who is not a good show
did see the movie recently, though.
@AviD the BBC are supposed to be planning something
@kalina its not supposed to be a "good" show....
12:08
Guys
We need to stop testing web applications
@RoryAlsop oh yeah? A collection of sorts? cool!
@AviD It is. Good doesn't have to mean amazing costumes
I would much rather tolerate Star Wars than Doctor Who, and I hate Star Wars
@LucasKauffman and make new Dr Who episodes
@kalina Star wars 4 was fine
12:08
@RoryAlsop hahahaha
and even 5 and 6
@RoryAlsop do you want to be the doctor or the evil robot
all of them are bad
"I can't believe they stole the basis of their movie from Spaceballs"
@RoryAlsop its not about the costumes, but the effects in the recent episodes are pretty good. (well as good as you can get when you have to be based on the original crappy ones...)
but its a whole different level of show, its not about "good".
though quite a few of the recent ones are objectively awesome.
no
No recent Doctor Who I have seen has been "awesome"
12:10
@AviD I guess "classic" would be a way of saying it
@AviD Silence. The weeping angels.
I think you're misspelling "average"
@RoryAlsop oh yes. and yes.
@kalina seriously, until youve seen it, you dont know.
@AviD seen what?
The Vashta Nerada
@AviD nice
12:10
@RoryAlsop thats an oooold episode xD
@RoryAlsop lol
@Nick I'm old. QED
@Nick huh what? no its not so old.
@AviD just 2 doctors back xD
10's last season...
12:11
I've seen a whole lot of Doctor Who
I tolerated the season of horseface as the sidekick
@AviD 10s and were at the 12th xD
I don't actually remember the second season at all
@kalina oh I hated horseface.
but there were some excellent episodes even with her.
now you're just mocking me
@Nick 2008
12:12
@RoryAlsop yea 6 years xD
and then there were a bunch of other seasons where nothing spectacular happened
@kalina she sucked. But luckily she got stuck in a parallel universe with a radio 1 pressenter
and then there was the whole 50th anniversary circle jerk
@kalina not at all! I call her that too. cant stand her.
@kalina the 50th anniversary circle jerk was great!
@AviD I call her it too. And so does my wife.
12:13
one of the best anniversary circle jerks ever!
@AviD I've only been married 16 years. 34 to go before this excitement, yes?
@RoryAlsop wait, what?
I think we're talking about different companions.
Donna is Ms. Horseface.
no
Billie Piper is horseface
she has a face. that looks like a horse.
@kalina yes - Billie Piper
12:14
she has a face, that looks like a horse...
Donna is 'the annoying Donna'
huh. weird.
yes. very weird. I'm agreeing with kalina

ROSE TYLER
Mrs. Evans
ex
12:15
if it wasn't obvious that she had issues from her music
the fact she married a ginger twice her age should have set off warning bells

Q: Google's patent for "Detecting security vulnerabilities in web applications"

Lucas KauffmanI'm a professional pentester and generally conduct a lot of webapplication assessments where we use the described techniques for detecting vulnerabilities. These techniques are not new and the patent basically describes the general approach every pentester uses to assess their web applications. ...

@LucasKauffman that didn't take long :-)
@LucasKauffman downvoted
@LucasKauffman did you know Cenzic have a patent on that kind of stuff too..
so do I
12:16
@kalina liar :-)
@RoryAlsop google actually had a "discuss the patent" button and it linked to stackexchange
I also have a patent on "method of interacting with a device using a finger"
once the market reaches critical mass, I shall murder everyone.
@LucasKauffman I think as worded, it is a bit too broad. I would suggest instead, asking for prior art
@LucasKauffman huh. one of the "inventors" is Ory Segal. not at IBM anymore... I will have a word with him
@LucasKauffman btw that patent is not for Google, its IBM.
Or in fact, leave that question as is. I'll ask a prior art one
12:20
> Original Assignee International Business Machines Corporation
@AviD yes. google just host the item
ah I'll edit that out than
@RoryAlsop @LucasKauffman is worried about Google demanding money.
The fool.
@AviD IBM would
IBM charges you for everything
12:21
@LucasKauffman oh, for sure.
Not google though.
@LucasKauffman So does yo momma.
2
you are the product, not the customer.
"oh you need to develop on that very expensive z/OS you bought? Here take this eclipse based IDE for 30k/developer/year
@LucasKauffman so, the patent was granted?
that's the Cenzic Fault Injection patent
12:27
@AviD yea
bored

CO CO CO COMBO BREAKER
BO BO BOOOREDOM BREAKER
I spy with my little eye something beginning with B
boobs
no.
although I can spy those by simply looking down
I hope you're jealous
you have no idea ^^
does it drive you crazy knowing I can touch boobs any time I want without ever getting slapped for it while you have to imagine or face a handprint on your face and possible sexual harassment charges?
12:32
nope. I'm married :-)
@RoryAlsop I obviously wasn't talking to you
you also still probably can't get away with it any time you want
I know - but I know how arguing helps stop you being bored
this isn't an argument
@kalina Most of the time it's ok though
@kalina correct. sometimes I am at work. And sometimes unconscious
12:33
@kalina It is an argument
@kalina yes it is
@LucasKauffman no it isn't
no it isn't
@RoryAlsop no it isn't
@RoryAlsop yes it is
@kalina No it ISN'T! Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.
I came here for a good argument!
12:35
there is nothing intellectual about what is going on here
AH, no you didn't, you came here for an argument!
you want an argument?
@kalina I paid for the full half hour
3
she has boobs, you dont, in the eyes of this society thats an argument
ooh snap
12:36
Scotland is a third world country.
fine, well that didn't work
I'm just going to go suck on this thing
5
pfffft
once I get it out of the wrapper
in case anyone didn't get it
rory says he paid for the half hour, kalina says she will suck on it for half an hour and now rory says pfft. Dafuq did I just see
uou dont wanna know...
12:37
@LucasKauffman Just another day in The DMZ?
@kalina Aren't you supposed to wrap it? I heard it's a lot safer.
I'm talking about an icecream
-.-
@RоryMcCune I was worried it may have gone over some heads...
@kalina that's what you kids call it these days?
yes
flags incoming
12:39
grabs popcorn
@RoryAlsop it wouldn't surprise me, this lot weren't even gleams in their parents eyes when this was popular ..
@RоryMcCune I love the movies,
"I can still bite your legs off"
I have all the movies on DVD
but, I have no DVD player
it's a conundrum
serious question; do I buy a mac book pro or a high spec laptop from another manufacturer
@kalina do you want one. Pretty sure I have spares
(totally not a sneaky way to find out where you live...honest)
depends, if its for the music thingies, i sugegst a MAC< since alot of profesisonal music software ships purely to mac only
12:45
@kalina Do you like OS X? Can you stand Windows?
I just have a lot of hardware which lives in the attic doing nothing. And I dislike junking perfectly good kit
@RoryAlsop Do you have an old mainframe up there?
@TerryChia I like Windows 8.1
i bet he still has trebuchetes up there
@kalina I've got an HP Elitebook 840 G1, they're quite good although not particularly cheap (but then neither are Macbook pros...)
12:47
@kalina I'd say get a non-Apple laptop then if you have no need for OS X.
@Lighty not the best reason I've ever heard, considering I have a full suite of music software for Windows already
this conversation has failed, I was hoping you'd just give me the one answer I wanted out of the thousands of options available
I might just get a custom made asus laptop
the other laptops ofcourse, for price then
price isn't really an issue
@TerryChia no mainframe. But I might have a trebuchet (actually I think it is a small mangonel)
godamnit Rory xD
12:50
@Lighty I did have a small AS/400 for a while
oh, cute
@kalina you'd need to be more specific to get recommendations. what's important, processing power, memory req. (e.g. do you need more than 8GB) storage req. (large required amount that would preclude SSDs), portability/weight importance, specific physical connector requirements, glossy/matt screen preferences, touchscreen good/bad/indifferent
it's so I can play games on airplanes
with maybe a tiny bit of music creation if I get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no other options available
@kalina are you bothered how heavy it is?
I don't want to be flying to Australia with nothing to do for 24 hours
@RоryMcCune not really but I don't want to have to get a gym subscription to be able to carry it
12:55
@kalina Definitely not a Macbook then.
@RоryMcCune Tbh, it's hard to beat Apple for most of those requirements. Unless you 1) Need things like Ethernet ports and are unwilling to carry around adapters, 2) Wants a touchscreen or 3) Has an irrational hatred of Apple products.
@TerryChia but kalina wants to play games, and likes Win 8.1. Bye bye Mac :-)
@RoryAlsop Games is the only problem. Don't you know that Apple makes excellent Windows laptops?
