@tripleee +1 - Automating the addition of posts to that tag as you suggested here is going to be helpful. --- Should we also remove flags issued (since they are invalidated on the site, and presumably defeated by skillful editing) and have the report reappear on CHQ so we can look again and add appropriate flags for the edited version. Occasionally the edit allows us to apply a spam flag on what was previously a naa

@Rob that's done on the JavaScript side, isn't it?

Rob
A pencil and age < 5 minutes gains the #edited-in-grace-period tag -- Dunno how the pencil automagically appears.
If it was on the browser side that means we are supposed to scroll back and look for pencils - something that I also didn't know.

@tripleee No, it shows up in the FIRE dialog, but didn't @iBug add it to the chat message? Remember how it swapped to a pig sometimes

@CalvT pig, lol
@Rob The pencil in Smokey's chat message is posted by Smokey itself, while the pencil in FIRE dialog is, of course, generated by FIRE (JavaScript).

1:31 PM
@tripleee I think this is the line github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/blob/…

Rob
So if SD knows then auto-tagging shouldn't be a huge update to the code @tripleee.

So yes the logic to detect if it was edited is already there
The question is does MS know it was edited
And I'm pretty sure the answer to that is no, based on the schema

Neither Smokey nor MS knows if the post is edited in grace period so far. The pencil relies on the post having a different creation_time and last_edit_time.
If last_edit_time is not present, it's assumed that the post isn't edited (i.e. edited <time> text on SE webpage).

I don't think it can ever know, that's the whole point of a grace period...

@EriktheOutgolfer That's exactly the point.

1:36 PM
you can fetch the post and then fetch it again, and compare ...

The solution to this involves eating a lot of quota to rescan posts or having SE indicate the post has been changed in the 5 minute period.

@Andy well it does
Remember "An edit has been made to this post" banner?
more dev work if we want to utilize this, however

@Andy if we assume that the scraping and post websocket don't work instantly, then, theoretically, the former isn't really a solution

@Andy We could have a field in the MS database though that registered if SE API said it was edited or not

@iBug That's not shown via the web socket or api though. Watching for that banner is going to involve scraping and more resource utilization on the part of Smokey
@CalvT It doesn't tell you that in the grace period though. It's just a silent change in those 5 minutes

1:39 PM
@Andy We can subscribe to the post and updates about it will be sent via websocket. It's just not an event of 155-questions-active (the realtime tab).

that involves watching the websocket...

@iBug Right, but again, a lot more resources on the part of Smokey because you have to keep that websocket open for everything for 5 minutes. How many posts do we scan every 5 minutes?

We could limit it to new users?

@Andy We can filter to subscribe to only posts meeting a certain criteria, like WordPress.SE + has "bad keyword in body" + reason weight less than 100 etc. etc.

1:41 PM
@iBug Or user with rep 1, accept rate 0

AFAICT most posts of this type are caught for "bad keyword in body" for the first time, particularly weight-loss.

I'm not trying to poop on any ideas. Just raising constraints we need to be aware of: quota and smokey resources. There was a discussion just yesterday about some instances running low on resources and how we can manage that.

What if this was separate to Smokey to start with?
After all we're looking for links

yeah, but my ultimate point is: we are pretty much capable of handling this while minimizing overheads.

I've been considering a project to monitor comments on posts, to try and catch spammers that post a question then add the spam link in the comments
And basically learn more about Python along the way
When it comes to resources, I have 2 RPI 3Bs sitting around, plus an EC2, so that's not an issue

1:45 PM
eh... that would mean Charcoal's purpose would extend to comments too...

@EriktheOutgolfer hard to say, but I didn't feel "this would become part of Charcoal" from CalvT's messages, he only said he had an idea of the project

I guess 970 EVO, right?

no 970 PRO
the PRO is actually listed in the system level as EVO PRO
i have the 970 PRO in this
which was only $75 more than the EVO while it was on sale
so that was the FIRST THING I upgraded in this laptop
replaced the non-evo non-pro Samsung NVMe they put in this thing with a new 970 PRO 512GB
then I upgraded the ram a couple weeks ago to 32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 2666MHz DDR4
this is an XPS 15 9570 so it's got some power behind it :P
MORE now that I increased the drive and RAM
(I had to cut corners to get the cost to fit entirely on the Dell Credit LIne they gave me)
(I did piecemeal upgrades over the past 2 months :P)

wow, that's rocking
I bought my laptop with 16GB RAM and currently having no plan to upgrade - RAM is too expensive compared to 2016

If you're referring to the "208" that's all autoflags cast today

@Rob You appear to be confusing autoflagging (Flagging) and Feedback. (As of when I write this) For autoflagging, there have been 201 flags today; for Feedback, there have been 501 feedbacks today. There's no way that you have had 200 autoflags today (that number is probably off by 2 orders of magnitude, i.e. 2 autoflags would be closer to being accurate (I have not checked for an accurate number for your number of autoflags today)).

I've had 3 flags today and I'm part of core so wouldn't be surprised if Rob has had 1 or 0
Although based on "Not registered for autoflagging" possibly conditions are disabled?

@Rob Your autoflag logs indicate that 0 have been used today, or even so far. Given the number of people participate in autoflagging, it's actually uncommon for an autoflag to be cast by a particular person. In the past, we've even had complaints from people saying that they expected to rack up a bunch of autoflags, but were getting none.

Looks like both conditions are enabled, but as you aren't core, possibly you'll need to wait a little while to start getting flags

@Rob When looking at the overall autoflagging numbers, keep in mind that of those 201 autoflags today 56 were raised by SmokeDetector. That's actually a bit lower than I expected, indicating that most of the autoflags are on posts that get 4 autoflaggs, as a SmokeDetector flag is used on every autoflagged post. The numbers work out that there's an average of 3.59 autoflaggs per post.

Rob

@CalvT I have 2 conditions enabled and they scored as close to 99.75 as I could tweak them. The reason that I had question marks after those numbers is because I suspected that I didn't understand something, except for the disabled part and my own dashboard reporting:

@Rob For now, please don't use the silent, !!/watch-, version of !!/watch. Using it suppresses the notification from SD of creating a new PR. This will tend to result in your watches taking longer for people to notice and approve.

@CalvT The words that were actually detected are "SİLİNMEYE GELEN". Looks like it's on line #1589 of findspam.py, which is a detection that doesn't require word boundaries around the "eye gel".

@Makyen Yep, I was just wondering if bisect only worked for complete detections
As in it would work for eye gel, but not for sele gel

How often does Smokey query the websocket?

Zoe
@SmokeDetector (mostly) copy-pasta from a content, edited by Bhargav and made a community wiki. That revision threw in the last line though

7:39 PM
@CalvT I don't know, but A) SD probably subscribes to multiple WebSockets, so we'd need to know which one you're asking about (e.g. SE, MS, GitHub). B) WebSockets are generally structured as data pushed from the server, not pulled in response to a query (i.e. you subscribe to a WebSocket, then receive data packets when the server sends them). So, "query the WebSocket" doesn't really make sense. In other words, I'm not sure what you're asking.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in body (1): How can i conform a mesh to a plane? by tapeboxparts on blender.SE

@CalvT As I understand it, !!/bisect runs the text through the regexes in the watch and bad* lists which are contained in the external text files (i.e. things added/removed through SD commands like !!/watch and !!/blacklist-keyword). It does not run things against regexes that are contained in findspam.py. Thus, the text tested needs to match one of those regexes, as they would be used in the normal detection.

@Makyen I may be wrong, but as I understand it, the websocket client smokey uses runs ws.send("155-questions-active") every x seconds, and the server replies with what's new
Removing that part causes you to not receive anything in my testing

I'm talking about the SE realtime socket here, and I want to know what x is basically

8:05 PM
@CalvT Looks like it tries up to 5 times to subscribe to the realtime feed with ws.send("155-questions-active"), then will retry if it gets an exception when receiving data. But that actually receiving data is from ws.recv(), which is polling (blocking until received?) to see if something has been received??? Does Python not do well with event handling (or at least the WebSocket implementation being used not use any such events/callbacks)?

Rob
@Makyen + @CalvT - Art showed a diagram of everything the other day that might not clear everything up.

@Makyen Yes ok. I've been following this page - pypi.org/project/websocket-client - the long live connection, and it has a time.sleep which I've set to 5
Seems to pull everything in every 5 seconds
afk now

@Makyen That's accurate, if it hasn't changed since Manish wrote it years ago
