@doppelgreener I had a call a few months ago that started something like "Hi this is Anna from AMEX, can I start by confirming your identify with your DOB?". I replied something like "Do you think I'm going to give that info to a random caller from an unknown number, can you give me a verifiable number to call back on?". She said to call their Sydney office from a phone book and ask for her, it turned out to be genuine but she said out of hundreds of similar calls I was the first one to question her.

@PeterJ I recently had someone call saying they were from my energy company and needed to install a smart meter, and asked for my personal information to verify it was me. I asked them to give me some information only my energy company would know, to prove it was them. They said they were actually just a third party call center, didn't have that information, and couldn't provide it if they did. So I said, alright, I can't take this call then. (& I need to get in touch with my energy company.)
