@doppelgreener which table? I have made a few tables with that tool before, but not lately. Are you referring to the dice rolling post?

@KorvinStarmast the post you linked in the message i replied to.
(in case you haven't bumped into this particular chat feature -- click the little grey bendy arrow at the start of the message to hop to that message.)

@goodguy5 Hmm, maybe read Tolkien if you want to see where SPavel is coming from on orcs versus Soviets ...

@KorvinStarmast don't really like Tolkien. I appreciate that his vision was the backbone for one of my favorite hobbies, but beyond that.
meh

I've heard these claims that Gary Gygax actually didn't like Tolkien either

@goodguy5 Given that orcs are his invention, I was trying to make a point related to what SPavel was objecting to, but since the discussion ended, let's not have me dredge it back up again.

2:08 PM
I feel like SSD closed that question wrongly

not sure if that's true

@kviiri If Gygax didn't like Tolkien, why were there hobbits in the original D&D game? One wonders.

@KorvinStarmast In the version of the story I've heard, his playtester friends kept pestering him for their inclusion.

@goodguy5 which one?

@SevenSidedDie Can we talk about that question? I'm not sure it should be open, but I feel that it is definitely not a "shopping" closure.

Q: Automated D&D with DM assistance

4444LIs there a way to automate D&D without losing the creativity. I played an adventures league game where the DM kept presenting the players with choices. For example on the "Day at the races" we could either attack with whip or defend with shield. Another example we were collecting ribbons which we...

2:10 PM
@doppelgreener Anyway, thanks for the table assist. :)

Gotcha.

@goodguy5 I don't fully understand their writing, but "Is there a system that plays like this?" is asking for us to recommend them a system. (A tool or game.)
That falls under shopping.

i'm not even sure how to approach that. I've never played day at the races, it it supposed to be that limited or as the DM just trying to make it easier for the new players?

@goodguy5 Tolkien did some fantastic worldbuilding but his prose leaves a lot to be desired.

@NautArch From the other side, I'll tell you that it makes the first few sessions GMing pretty easy. I don't need to know a party's characters too well to know they've got +5 to hit, save DC 13, max +7 skill if expertised, and an AC in the 13-18 range that's pretty easy to guess based on class.

2:18 PM
I suppose that the question "Is there a system that gives multiple options that the DM can purvey and adjudicate?" is a shopping question.

But OPs problem seems to be "this Adventure League stifled my creativity, how should I address that?"

And also, narrative implications but that's to be expected when you're writing heroic fantasy, I think.

@Yuuki There is no arguing about taste. As to story telling styles, Tolkien's style was established written before TV became a thing. It had developed before talking movies became a method for story telling. Therefore, his style has a lot of description that you might not see now. I have other authors whose style I prefer over his.

@goodguy5 I agree. However, they didn't ask about that problem, and we must vote based on what the question currently is rather than what it should or could be. Since right now it's the former, it's closed as a shopping question.

I have read his version of Beowulf. Have been through his take on Kullervo, and am going through it again. It's a particular style of story telling that one can see bled into his later prose.
@nitsua60 @NautArch Is Day At The Races an intro AL adventure from DMs Guild?

@doppelgreener I suppose that's fair, but I still feel like it should have been closed as "\Unclear"

2:22 PM
@goodguy5 Yeah, player appears to be disappointed that the game catered to newbies.

@nitsua60 Is that as much of a problem at lower levels with rolled stats, though? I have usually built my encounters around the PCs strengths and weaknesses as well as my storylines so I'm not sure where differences would really come into play.
Even the huge AC issue in our main campaign isn't really because of stats, but because of magic items.

@goodguy5 it's not really important what reason we use to close a question, just important it gets closed. right now it's asking a shopping question, it's fine it gets closed as a shopping question.

@doppelgreener You're a better source of knowledge on that topic than I. I'd say the reason is important so that others can see WHY questions get closed.

But it's a shopping question, right? It got closed because it's a shopping question. :P

@goodguy5 the problem with unclear questions with multiple elements is that there are multiple reasons to close; any of them is valid.

2:25 PM
Also, "Unclear" lends itself much more to "let's work this out" than "Shopping", which screams much more "YOUR QUESTION IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD"

@doppelgreener I don't know if it's a shopping question, but it may be. The question asker needs to discuss with us/improve the question, clarify it, etc.
@goodguy5 For my money, all caps wasn't necessary there. Just sayin'. ;)

@KorvinStarmast I was referencing.... something.... Futurama?
what happens to a body when a person is true resurrected without said body?

@goodguy5 Nothing, the body is just meat

So, let's say that Bob and Revivo go down into a crypt.

Bob dies and Revivo escapes. Revivo resurrects Bob and they go back down to the crypt.

Does Bob see his own body?

2:41 PM
@goodguy5 If his Spot check is high enough

Okay, then followup....
Bob dies again, but Revivo is in no danger. He brings both bodies (in tact) out of the crypt.

Can Revivo cast Raise Dead on either corpse?

I'd say yeah.

What edition is this? In 5e, the person only gets a new body if the old one doesn't exist, otherwise you must touch the corpse.

As long as both bodies have not been without the soul for more than 10 days.

@goodguy5 If you feel that close reason reads as hostile and that there's better ways to word it, you could open a meta.

2:45 PM
alright.... last question.....

Can a Sorcerer twin spell Raise Dead on two corpses for the same person and if so what happens?

@goodguy5 The sorcerer's head explodes in retribution for making the universe have to work that out.
3

@goodguy5 Depends on the metaphysics of the soul, I'd say.

(And then, for good measure, the sorcerer's body implodes out of existence.)

If a soul can't be duplicated, then just one of the corpses is Raised.

@goodguy5 There is only one soul

2:47 PM
@SPavel The sole soul

@doppelgreener The rules do not support this interpretation

The eagle looks cozy

@kviiri If Bob is a fish, then it's a sole sole soul.
And if Bob's spirit has slippers, then those are sole sole soul soles.

@SPavel Drat

And if Bob decides to trade away his shoes while dead, then it's sole sole soul soles sold.

2:49 PM
What if Bob is from Korea? Seoul, specifically?

If he's particularly stringent on the medium of trade, then we have sole sole soul soles sold for gold.
@goodguy5 Sole Seoul sole soul soles sold for gold?

@Yuuki I heartily approve of this message; it is the sole ray of light in a dark discussion.
@nitsua60 but of course; inclusive is the default in our team based TTRPG. 8^D

#AdventureApril day 7: Weary traveler Cursed by a passing wizard for her attitude, local girl literally drags herself across the kingdom in a valiant quest to beat the snot out of him

@SevenSidedDie Horn of Baubles existed in AD&D 2e. Complete Bard's Handbook

3:05 PM
@KorvinStarmast This is distinct from goblins, who are born of hobbles.

Or Gobblins who are just fantasy evil turkeys

In our first DnD campaign ever, our party liberated a bunch of goblins who founded a relatively-good Goblin republic.
It would've made for a much more interesting game if we had focused on helping them along.

Can you substitute soda for holy water?

@Yuuki only if your Dr Pepper is DDiv
Otherwise it just makes the undead sticky and jittery

But I thought the carbonation bubbles would count as holes?

3:20 PM
No, holes have openings
Therefore bubbles are not holes, so carbonated water is unholy

how about holy soda? just pray really, really hard
it's like you earthy-crunchy types think that soda is evil just because it's gassy
that's gas-shaming

Unsanctioned gaseous discharge is a violation of the cross-planar environmental preservation and protection act. Please report the volume of your emission to the nearest representative of your divine authority to determine the appropriate judgment.

XD

3:36 PM

ooo you can see the eggs!
Aaaaand it's back on them.

4:29 PM
@doppelgreener I had no idea you had played Masks?!?!

@Rubiksmoose I did a while back with June.

@doppelgreener we'll have to talk sometime. :) I'm planning on running it soonish. My first non-D&D system.

@Rubiksmoose You should probably speak to @JuneShores rather than me, I've got no experience running it!

@doppelgreener fair enough. Did you find it enjoyable?

Very. It's still memorable for me. I love the fun I was allowed to have with my Beacon.

4:41 PM
I'm extremely excited to run it. It will be interesting to see how my D&D born-and-bred group adapts to the rules light system.
:) happy to hear it.

4:56 PM
what'd I miss in the last hour?
oh, not much

The eagle is enjoying a beautiful sunset

@goodguy5 how dare you! doppel and I had a fascinating and riveting conversation

I spy an egg

@Rubiksmoose but it was short
