4:00 PM
@MadMAxJr "We just want to poke LITTLE holes in space-time!"
What system?

Pathfinder.

I'm usually more than happy to help characters re-fluff material, but dispensations are rare.
I'm not entirely familiar with PF, but doesn't it have enough splat to accomodate most character concepts?

It's related to the Change Shape question I posted last night. Player wants a Kitsune. Okay. They have two forms, their fox form, and they can take on a humanoid form via Change Shape. The player is petitioning for a third form, a 'hybrid'. They say it's just cosmetic.
Looking over at how the race template is laid out, I'm not inclined to grant it.
Now there are plenty of feat options and tweaks available in the race description. But this is one thing it doesn't cover.

Reading the template.

And frankly, for this game, I don't want this turning into a slippery slope of, "Well you let me tweak this thing before, why won't you tweak more things?"

4:06 PM
Has this person ever read any of the Changing Breeds of the East books - sounds like he's angling for a White Wolf version of the Kitsune.

@MadMAxJr That is a very important thing.
When I give dispensations that I think might lead to wheedling, I make it clear I have the right to revoke the dispensation it at any time I think it's being abused.

Vi
@MadMAxJr Couldn't you just do it with fluff?

I don't remember the original legends mentioning a hybrid form though - fox or human (maybe with a hidden Tell that only the perceptive see).

@SimonGill Any particular reason a lycanthropic template wouldn't work?

Vi
@BESW Say that the half-way point is identical to the human form, or use a template?

4:07 PM
But it's not just a fluff thing, they want a splinter version of an existing power tacked onto their character.

Vi
@MadMAxJr Well, if they just want to RP it, it doesn't seem to be something that should cause a problem

At a guess, they want the bite attack in hybrid form?

Vi
The fluff is just the default stuff

Yeah, I think they're looking for mechanics to go with it is the thing.

Vi
@MadMAxJr If they want to bite then just make the bite fluff for their normal attack
@MadMAxJr That way nothing mechanical is changed

4:09 PM
@MadMAxJr In my games this would depend largely on the player. If it's obvious they are interested in it just for RP but want mechanics to support their RP, I'd be inclined to give them at least something.

@Vi Monk Kitsune. Hybrid form. Flurry of bites.

I'm more concerned this is just getting the foot in the door for further 'tweaks'.

@BESW Possibly.

Vi
You could look up a bite mechanic from something that can bite and just give them that?

Which I will have to address with them.

4:10 PM
@MadMAxJr Have you agreed to tweak the alter self ability for them already?

@MadMAxJr What mechanic are they asking for?
Also, that is an excellent question which deserves more upvotes.

WOO, I'm DEMOCRACY-ENABLED!

@Lord_Gareth As in, you're a Westerner?

Well yes, but also I can vote down
@MadMaxJr - Hiya. You may remember me from such threads as yours!

@SimonGill {this unit is now programmed for partisan disputes}

4:13 PM
You say your player wants a bite attack?

@Lord_Gareth that's my speculation.
We haven't heard the details yet.

I've had some recent (and not-so-recent!) experiences with bite attacks lately, so if I can help

@Lord_Gareth He's already got that just from being a kitsune. He just can't have bipedal movement at the same time.

@Simon - Wait, wait.
Kitsune in Pathfinder take the form of fox-foxes?

4:15 PM
Not man-foxes as they're depicted in, y'know, myth?
"nd their true form of an anthropomorphic fox" <-Yeah, what I thought
Max, there's no need of a 'hybrid' form
Hyrbid is standard

@Lord_Gareth No, I'm wrong. I'm reading off MadMaxJr's description of what his player has - and what they want.

Vi
@MadMAxJr Well if they want to attack in that form it seems reasonable to say that the regular attacks they make are reflavoured or just give them the bite in half-form
The bite would probably be less powerful

"A kitsune has two forms—a single human form and its true form, that of a humanoid fox."

Thing is, the kitsune form is already a hybrid of humanoid and fox

Amusingly, the change shape ability is completely pointless because of the shapechanger subtype.

4:18 PM
@SimonGill "Hey dudes. I am totes a normal bald monkey thing like you."

The player hasn't been 100% clear with their intent, I'm just looking over the various ways to resolve it. In my thinking, another form would have to be based on the existing material, the current change shape ability.

@SimonGill - Ah...unless they altered the Shapechanger subtype for PF, it's not redundant at all

@Lord_Gareth Reads that way to me.

@MadMaxJr - I just read the bite attack in the SRD there. It's 1d4 points of damage. You could just give it to them in all forms and I certify to you that the balance won't change at all.

"A shapechanger has the supernatural ability to assume one or more alternate forms."

4:20 PM
If PF uses the same natural attack rules as 3.5, and I remember my rules right from seven years ago, a bite attack can be used as an additional part of a regular full attack action.

@SimonGill - That's fluff text telling you what it is that GETS the subtype. The mechanical effects of the subtype are in the section labeled "A Shapechanger possesses the following traits." Notably: A shapechanger possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature's entry).

Proficient with its natural weapons, with simple weapons, and with any weapons mentioned in the creature's description.
Proficient with any armor mentioned in the creature's description, as well as all lighter forms. If no form of armor is mentioned, the shapechanger is not proficient with armor. A sh
Every printed shapechanger has an alternate shape, but just picking up the subtype doesn't give you shape-changing ability.

I think I'll just encourage them to redefine the default anthropomorphic form to their taste, if they just want ears and a tail.

@MadMAxJr [applause]

Still clearly marks them as not human, requires least amount of tweaking.

@BESW - Correct. Bite attacks are a primary natural attack and can be tossed in (at -5) at the end of some attacks with weapons. As a primary natural attack it deals [Damage Die] + Str, instead if 1/2 str like a secondary would.

4:23 PM
And I don't have to bother with additional mechanics or getting into a slippery slope of 'but you let me tweak x before', because this way is pretty much trivial.

Unfortunately where 3.5 explains that shit every time a natural attack shows up
Either Paizo or the guys writing the PFSRD couldn't be ASSED TO DO ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE.

@Lord_Gareth Which could be useful for hit-fishing builds like rogues.

Fair enough. This is why I prefer how I handled Shapeshifters in my group-built world in FATE - "I'm a Shifter" "Great, you can shapeshift now."

@BESW - It can be, yes, but at the end of the day to do it you still need access to your entire full-round, which is VERY hard to get in PF, especially since they threw most forms of Pounce into a fire

@Lord_Gareth Heh.

4:25 PM
@SimonGill - The trippy bit is when you get into things that can shift shape, but aren't [Shapeshifters]

@Lord_Gareth Meh. A wizard did it.

I was telling @JonathanHobbs (who is mostly a 4e guy) about a simple jump-charge build earlier today.

PF and 3.5 are so fucked-up you have to learn a specialized version of English to even begin approaching that shit.

Reads just fine if you're a programmer or a lawyer.

@Lord_Gareth Every specialized set of knowledge has its own definitions and terms.

4:27 PM
@BESW - Yes, but D&D and PF both go well beyond that to the point where you have to learn to speak Designer Grammar.

A loosely defined system is fine if everyone fully trusts the person who makes the final yes or no. A tightly defined system tries to have those situations already answered.

Sometimes, I can tell you who wrote a page based on how it's worded
@MadMaxJr - The problem with PF and 3.5 both being that they bill themselves as that second kind of system, but were designed so horribly that they're more like the first one.

It works for me. That's all I need it to do.

(BESW, can you tell that I woke up in full nerd rage?)

@Lord_Gareth As Ninth Court Judge Alex Kozinsiki said in Mattel v. Aqua, "The parties are advised to chill."
6

4:31 PM
Heh.

Where's my hoverboard Mattel? It's 2013.

I spent all night dreaming that I'd been forced to a D&D table and made to play a Truenamer for hours upon hours, only to be dragged into a Pathfinder Society game where the judges constantly overwrote the printed rules in favor of ever-more-arcane houserules.
And every time I tried to get up from the table.
They shot a kitten right in front of me.

Actually the kitten provoked an attack of opportunity from them, they're still arguing this.

@Lord_Gareth You have a strange mind.

Nobody's claiming 3.5 or PF are greater than they are. We understand (and have discussed ad nauseum for weeks) that they make claims to achievements they fail to reach. Some people like them anyway, and that's okay.

4:33 PM
All systems equally fail to please that /one/ player in your group. There is always one.

Bes, I wasn't exaggerating. That was my dream last night.
Or at least the only one I can remember.

@Lord_Gareth That's tragic, but doesn't make us any less aware of the issues than we were yesterday, and doesn't give you any right to swear at us about it.
Neither 3.5 nor PF are here.

I....wasn't aware that this chat had a profanity limit >.> In my natural state I tend to swear as a matter of course or emphasis.

@Lord_Gareth To the best of my knowledge it doesn't, but that doesn't mean it's a blue room either.
We don't know who's here, or how old, or their sensibilities, and so it's common courtesy to keep the blue to a pale robin's-egg if possible.
I do know that many people here are at work while chatting.

Every word is also logged, archived, and indexed by Google. So pretend it's like chiseling stone tablets.

4:40 PM
Mmm, I see.

@MadMAxJr 2015 sir, 2015.
(55, 85, 2015)

Eh? Lost me on that one.

@waxeagle That was mass-market hoverboards. The prototypes should be here by now.
Maybe we can start printing them up on the 3d printers?

Oh! Yes.

@MadMAxJr 30 year gaps. 1955 + 30 = 1985, +30 = 2015.

4:42 PM
@SimonGill you'd think so, but these will be rushed into production :)

In that case, Mattel needs to get started. They're gonna need to break ground on that unobtainium mine.

Time to kill the 7ft smurfs!

@MadMAxJr lol, anyone wanna place bets on whether Mattel will still exist in 2015?

Speaking of profanity, Sweet feaguing hayclusters of amplexus! My export just failed.

I'd rather place bets on if we still have helium in 2015.

4:46 PM
Okay, now comes the key question.

@MadMAxJr We won't... the US Government will though. They're still holding the Strategic Reserves.

Do I start my homework, only to have it interrupted by needing to shower and eat breakfast, or do I knock out some work on my homebrew?

And the Canadian government has recovered the Maple Syrup Strategic Reserves recently.

@Lord_Gareth obvs homebrew
because homebrew >>> everything else

I DO have quite a bit of work to do on this revision.

4:48 PM
what are you making?

Harrowed has been my baby since I was 12, and I want them to be /done/ so that I can sit back and gaze proudly on what I have wrought.

@Lord_Gareth oh right, that kind of homebrew.... darn confusing overloading of terminologies
cuz I was hoping to hear about your homemade stout

I tend to sit back and look at my creations while the rest of the internet tells me how horrible it is.

@MadMAxJr - I'm at that stage where I've done that already and I'm awkwardly informing my adoring fans that, no, it's not actually good yet, in point of fact it's wretched and bad.
Never pick up a fan base with less system mastery than you. It's really hard to explain that they lack the knowledge needed to realize that something you made sucks.

4:53 PM
@SimonGill I didn't understand this until I read MLWM.

The guy makes lots of sense.

I needed a game so spectacularly microcosmic with such anvilicious mechanics that you cannot avoid having the kind of experience they're designing for, to really get --rather than just know-- the idea that mechanics and playstyle are inextricably interwoven and no matter how much I didn't actually play the D&D 4e the box expected me to, my game was literally unable to reach certain points on the RP map because of the system it was married to.

Calvinball: The RPG

O.o Went to proofread a post and a vote appeared while I was grammar checking.
Trippy

(I may have abused the word "literally," and I apologize to it profusely. I promise to use you properly twice tomorrow, when it's not 3am.)

4:58 PM
Three in the morning. Must be an aussie.

@MadMAxJr Guam, actually.

Oh, tiny island.

@MadMAxJr We haven't tipped over yet.

Hey MadMaxJr, how familiar are you with supplementary material for PF?

(Also, biggest island in the Mariana chain.)

4:59 PM
'Cause there's a trick I'm suggesting here and I cannot recall the name of the components for the life of me.

@Lord_Gareth I generally only look at Paizo material. After what happened with 3.0, I do not trust 95% of third party publishers.

rpg.stackexchange.com/a/20095/6172 <-The trick is in the second paragraph of that answer.
@MadMaxJr - By 'supplementary material' I mean 'stuff that wasn't the PHB/DMG/Bestiary'
I'll say third-party if I mean that, though I can understand the source of the confusion.
@KRyan Oh just get in chat you ninja :p

Trying to find the spell?

And if they changed the name of the feat.

5:03 PM
@BESW I'm proud of myself that I actually get this reference. Thank you NPR

Ah, so that trick ONLY works for sorcerers.
Well then, TO THE EDIT!

Not familiar with these unfortunately.

@waxeagle I believe John Stewart also did a bit on it.

Edit'd

And may I say, I am so glad to be known as "the island that might tip over" instead of "the island with snakes hanging from the trees like brown spaghetti."

5:06 PM
@BESW lol

@Lord_Gareth Clerics with the War domain can get a temporary feat, as can shamans who find the right spirits.

So I almost upvoted Rob's question, but then I stopped because I'm not sure on the protocol for such in the community.
@BESW - That feat only works for non-prepared casters, so the cleric is right out of that running.

@BESW The island that might tip over? How the devil is that supposed to happen?

@Lord_Gareth Bah. I'm sure you can find some way to give a sorcerer a domain.

But I was going to upvote the question because it leads to some very useful advice.

5:09 PM
I lived in Okinawa for three years. Tiny islands are no stranger to me.

@BESW - If this was 3.5 I could. I wouldn't even blink.

@Lord_Gareth almost always upvote questions

But PF removed a lot of those toys.

@Lord_Gareth Why wouldn't you upvote it?
Heck, 4e could do that.

Because I wasn't sure if, "Hey, this will lead to good advice in general," was sufficient reason.
It's upvoted now.
The thing to understand about PF and access to toys like that is that Buhlman and SKR have VERY DEFINED ideas on what is and is not "good design", about the relationship between flavor and mechanics, and about what is and is not balanced. Their very defined ideas are all wrong, but that doesn't make them any less firmly-held. SKR waxed outright wroth on the idea of arcane casters with domains
So even if it BECAME thing in PF, it'd get banned faster than sound.
And since SKR and Buhlman also influence or control PFS
That banning will /hold/

5:11 PM

@BESW I thought it was only Republicans on the Science committees that said dumb stuff like that.

@SimonGill A few years ago the US Secretary of State said that when you talk as much as people like her, you can't be expected to say everything right.

@BESW truthfacts

Back to the edit button!

Much like a DM. HOW DARE YOU NOT KNOW THE OBSCURE RULE REGARDING SILLY HATS ON ORCS IN A SNOWSTORM.

5:17 PM
@BESW I'll grant getting numbers wrong - or doing what the shadow chancellor did here in December and say the British economy was growing instead of shrinking and entirely derail his own speech.

@MadMAxJr Must... resist... quotes....

I think the various House committees should also be D&D groups. Admittedly many of my ideas perfectly explain why I am not in politics.

@SimonGill I have to admit that oceanography and geology are probably not usually crucial knowledge areas for members of a Congress which oversees a largely continental nation.

@MadMAxJr They should go on team-building exercises. With live rounds. Follow Dick Cheney's example and all that.

THE EDIT HAS ARRIVED
Hopefully I can stop editing this post now >.>

5:21 PM
@BESW How about basic geology, like islands tend to be rooted into the ground rather than floating on top of it?
If he was talking about people colonising the pacific trash island then he might have a point.

@SimonGill Maybe he watched the 1967 Doctor Doolittle the night before?

@Lord_Gareth it's ok, editing is important, and it's there because we like right, complete answers

@BESW Entirely possible. Thankfully there are 434 other members of the house of representatives. And not all crazy. At least not all at the same time.

It was pretty shocking, but no more so than earlier this year when the phrase "trickle-down economics" was used to mean exactly the opposite of its definition. Repeatedly. Nationally. Without comment.

@BESW - You mean like the entire Tea Party platform?
For the last FOUR years?

5:23 PM
Heh. I'm not going to get into partisan politics. The instant we get to brass tacks, I'm out.

@BESW Ah, Orwell. Prescient as always.

"Trickle-down" was pretty much universal.

But my proposal for a marshmallow tack factory was shot down T_T

My money is on the Orcish Reform Party. Equally destroy everyone.

@Lord_Gareth we totally need a 21st century revamp of the pushcart wars featuring marshmallow guns...

5:25 PM
@Lord_Gareth Kids don't want marshmallow tacks. They want marshmallow Nine Inch Nails. Have done since the 90s ;)

@SimonGill I believe you were here for my preferred campaign poster links some time ago.

Time for some hot pockets up in here

The Pushcart War (1964) is a popular children's novel by American author Jean Merrill with illustration by Ronni Solbert, Merrill's companion. The story is written in the style of a historical report from the future, looking back at the earlier events of a "war" on the streets of New York City between trucking companies and pushcart owners who use pea shooters as weapons to disrupt the trucks. Merrill said the idea for the novel brewed in her for several years while she lived in Greenwich Village. and was a Horn Book Fanfare Best Book (1965). Plot The Three The opening sentence says,"The...

Possibly. Don't remember them though.

5:27 PM
Ah yes, I skimmed them.
That is a very good idea being promoted there.
Shame Understand is too many syllables.

@SimonGill Is this not ironic?

@BESW - Tell me, are you familiar with the tale of Bear Bearington the Bearbearian?

Hot Pockets. That sounds like totally valid adventure loot.

@MadMAxJr For keeping dragon eggs warm in transit.
@BESW Just a little.

@Lord_Gareth Nope. Why?

5:29 PM
Because he's hilarious, and because my brain just said, "Hey, let's tell a funny."

[looks him up]
Ah. I did that with Undead Leadership once.

So Bear Bearington the Bearbearian is the result of a thread on another forum where someone said, "So how much bear can I get on one character in 3.5?" The thread said, "THIS WILL GET GRIZZLY!"

Dragon loot. Heh. Reminds me, someone shared a post the other day. "You open the chest in the dragon loot pile, only to find little macaroni and construction paper pictures of the dragon." "That's not loot!" Dragon: "It's treasure to meeeeeeee!"

(...Leadership won't to THIS)

Cleric + Undead Leadership + cohorts and dominated undead with same.

5:31 PM
And after about two days the build was finalized.
Bear Bearington was a Anthropomorphic Bear Werebear Bear Totem Barbarian/Bear Lord/Bear Warrior with a Sentinel of Brahrri (Bear Wizard, not kidding) companion. He was a bear who got so angry that he turned into a bear that turned into a bear, rode bears, commanded bears, and could talk to bears.

I can bearly believe that.

But it got even hairier! Someone went, "Wait, I have an idea," and created a Bear Totem Barbarian/Warblade/Bloodstorm Blade build that used Fling Ally to THROW BOOMERANGING BEARS AT HIS ENEMIES, including throwing a bear in a 120-foot line like a lightning bolt made of bear.

@Lord_Gareth Now that's just pandamonium.

Lulz
Incidentally, the boomeranging bears trick works with any willing ally
So you can throw boomeranging dwarven berserkers

I was once in a party that used the dwarven defender and someone else with flight to pile-drive our way into the dragon's lair from above instead of going in the front way.
Fly up two miles, drop dwarf. Repeat until entry is obtained.

5:38 PM
I got the dragon to come out to us once. "Hey DM, what skill check should I make to try and come up with a super-cutting insult?" "Umm...let's call it diplomacy." "Awesome, I stand before the cave mouth and [rolls 17 + 13 = 30] scream 'YOUR MOTHER WAS A FIRE SALAMANDER AND YOUR FATHER WAS A BRAVE IGUANA!' into the cave."

...That dwarf was very useful. We once needed the Hammer of Moradin to break an evil artifact, and discovered that not only was the dwarf a priest of Moradin; he'd also been blessed with Improved Unarmed Strike so that his body counted as a blunt weapon. "Hold still," says the hill giant PC, "real still."

Hahahaha

Okay, now I go to bed. Finally.
ttfn

@Lord_Gareth yeah, I'm at work
so not so much

6:06 PM
I live once more
Sweet I got a badge ^_^
Hiya Martin

6:34 PM
So...what are bounties, anyway?
I suddenly have a button that lets me start them
And I'm not sure what it does

@Lord_Gareth they let you give some rep to a specific answer on a question. Or bait new answers
you put up your own rep to either reward an existing answer, or to invite new answers

So I could put up a bounty on a thread that, for example, has AN answer but could use additional, better, or more specific ones?

@Lord_Gareth exactly
or doesn't have any answers

I shall need to remember this
I WILL CARVE IT INTO MY FLESH!

@Lord_Gareth or you could just read faq

6:37 PM
:p
Okay, time to read this math chapter
If anyone needs me, just sling a ping my way
I can talk and read at the same time

@Lord_Gareth nice, which math?

@LitheOhm - Replied to your comment, and computer math - specifically converting binary, decimal, and hexidecimal

will check. Nice, I liked that stuff
aye. I've seen one or two who are familiar with 3.5 and 4e, was hoping to capture their attention with that question
I've got a lot of XP with 3.x but none with 4e

I've got a friend on another chat who's got experience with both, but I'm not entirely certain I could convince him to register.

but, your answer does cover the 3.5 monster making pretty well.

6:48 PM
I'll sling him a link when he gets online.

cool :)

I hadn't wanted to assume that you did or didn't have experience with monster design in 3.5, so I figured a blow-by-blow couldn't hurt >.>

@Lord_Gareth it's a good assumption. It helps others who don't have as much (maybe someone will want to move from 4e to 3.5) so it's great

I think honestly one of the easiest things to do is to look at the abilities they HAVE and try to pillage things that look familiar. We had a discussion about that last night.

the only thing I might add is playtest vigorously lol

6:50 PM
Does the back of that Monster Manual have definitions of 4e's keywords?

yeah, that's what @BESW originally recommended I do back on Xmas
it does :D
that was handy

Yeah.
That'll at least ballpark you for a translation

@Lord_Gareth ummmm, they are in the glossary section of the online compendium I think (also probably the Rules Compendium IIRC).

yep. So far I think it'll just be flavor capturing anyway. I read it once (when no answer was supplied I called into Hastings to get a trade for 3.5) so it's more or less inspiration and naught more at this point

@BESW expressed it best last night - 4e monsters are built from their meta-game role inward, whereas 3.5 monsters tend to be built "top-down" with the flavor first

6:52 PM
the online compendium will give you a source for the definition of each (if they are multiple sources then I'd start in the RC)

@waxeagle the DDI?

@LitheOhm yep

@Waxeagle - I don't need 'em, I was asking if Ohm had access to them :p

@Lord_Gareth interesting. One thing I love about the 4e shift is the roles they added

even if you don't have an account you can search it and find the source at least

6:53 PM
oh, didn't know that
I was told that all their mechanics are online, it's just the lore/flavor that's exclusive to the book

@LitheOhm yes, (note this doesn't work in the mobile version, it's still searchable, you just only get the titles, no sources)

@waxeagle awesome

@LitheOhm - I was...less enamored with it. 4e's role protection, I feel, cut a lot of the creativity out of the game. Mind you, they achieved some SERIOUS balance when they did it that way.
But in my mind it was a lot like hacking off a leg instead of, you know, operating to remove the tumor in it
Yes, hacking off the leg WORKED
But, you know, leg gone.

@Lord_Gareth I can see how it would cut creativity. But, their method of trying to eliminate (or at least cut down on) the party-versus-single-monster battles seemed efficient

@LitheOhm yeah, it's a nice feature :).

6:55 PM
that did bug me a bit lol. They go four times, I go once, they go four I go once... I'm very much in favor of DMs having fun too

Eh, in my experience party-vs-single monster doesn't happen a lot because most DMs learn quickly that 4 on one is bad odds for even the toughest monsters and NPCs

@Lord_Gareth There's still the capstone fights, ie. the staples from video games etc.

Mind you, it doesn't help that 3.5's CR system is a badly-implemented joke that is wholly unhelpful in gauging monster strength.

honestly, the hardest fights in Baldur's Gate for PC (the really old one - AD&D) were many-on-many
@Lord_Gareth hence the vigorous playtesting lol. I originally joined this site looking for an area to playtest.
even then, it's best set up as "this monster versus these PCs," which I don't mind so much

Indeed.

6:57 PM
I'll still playtest my advanced creatures if I haven't run them two or three times

I tend to run with tricksy monsters. I like creatures like gadacros, erinyes, beguilers, spriggans, and the like.

RAW a phantom huge verdant reaver (mm2 or 5) is a CR7 or so. In practice, it never misses and hits hard.

My players have learned through vicious experience that if a creature has an Intelligence score that indicates exceptional Intelligence, I'll play them that way

@Lord_Gareth I dig gadacros especially

@LitheOhm - Are you familiar with That Damn Crab?

6:58 PM
Hobgoblin warsoul :D int 21
nope

It's listed as CR 2 and I've seen it drown entire ninth level parties
it's a giant crab

I have heard of that, actually

And it beats the crap out of you, grapples, and then drowns you

my two tenth levels just ran into a couple of boa constrictors. Neither had escape artist
it really is "this monster versus these PCs" lol
