alright, so if i light a torch at night, it "illuminates" a certain radius, but actually it can be seen for miles.
but in a dark dungeon, if you're outside the light radius, you can't see squat.
(this is for 5e)
i'm just wondering about questions about this rules area

@order Well, the rules aren't perfect. You should still be able to see a lighthouse in the distance even if you can't see where you're walking. Doesn't help you much with your immediate surroundings but still. That's the IRL thing that happens. Also consider the same with stars - you can see them, probably even navigate by them (in terms of general directions). But if you might still trip over some branch that's in your path. Because you didn't see it.

@order For an extreme example, stars can be seen from a great distance. They don't illuminate anything around you, and actually can be best seen when you're in total darkness.
