I mean, I think this is yet another great story/world hook to explore. You can defintiely have channelers that can provide energy in quick bursts. That is probably not suitable for long-term spellweavery but it's what you need in the heat of the battle to do some simple-ish but effective casting of, say, fireball or magic missle or whatever. The spells which aren't especially complex - just to the point.

Physicist just suck at naming XD I mean, check any physics book, and you get things like "Lorentz force" or "Stefan-Boltzmann-Constant", "Newton's Law" or "Bernoulli Effect" on one end and "Photoeffect" "Gravitation" and "Law of conservation of Energy" on the other.

Generally, if you want to describe a gravitation scalar field that for some reason allows doing wormhole math, physicists will probably name it after the first researcher that postulated it, or someone that managed to math it out or laid the foundation for it. Or they name it after the phenomenom.

I'd shy away from using real theoretical particles for things they are not clearly related to.

Hopefully that's not a start of a new trend of "How do puritans react to X?"

Even with a blank map, a lot of people can only name 45-50 of the 64 states.

I think it would really help the whole of stack exchange if chat was more visible.
I was trying to find the right site to ask a specific question, and instead of just posting it on one site after another until I found one that it belonged, I popped into chats to see if the users on those sites thought it would be in scope.

Hey, all. We're having our third moderator election; question collection starts today, and you can nominate yourself in one week. The election itself starts on July 9th, and runs until July 17th. For more information, see meta. There should be an election chat room created soon for all election-y talk, which I hope people will use.

@SerbanTanasa She stood up for correct and sane grammar, and was sacrificed on the alter of progressiveness for her sins against their fringe religion.

There is no difference between the "far-right" and "far-left". Both are racist totalitarians.

Hey people (and eldritch abominations): When you are out and about on the site can you help reinforce the new help page information. Primarily asking you to remind old users (and tell new users) to include context and constraints in questions. If you can't vote on them please flag. Its going to be a bit of an adjustment period.

@redfrogcrab Do you need a specific system? Does how it work actually influence anything other than technobabble and fluff?

@FutureHistorian I'm going to say this once, as a mod, RO, and user of this room: When people are talking, please do not interrupt. paj28 asked a question or two; people have been discussing it and some side matters. It's annoying when someone keeps interjecting, and just because someone's not saying "Sorry, Future Historian, I don't want to talk about X" doesn't mean that they want to be pinged, or to talk about it.

Yes, welcome to chat. Do ignore any howling, bad puns and other strangeness. They're occupational hazards of dropping in here, it seems.

Hey, folks. With my mod hat off, I wanted to announce the full launch of Scientific Speculation. It's a project several of the former WB mods and I have been working on for a couple months, along with ArtOfCode and the folks at Codidact, to make a spin-off non-SE site for essentially non-worldbuilding about questions that go just beyond the realm of current science.

Hello chat, next person who looks at this, please star me so it gets more attention. I've spend basically a whole day analyzing voting patterns, and it has become apparent that some voters are casting very many close vote compared to the historical pattern on this site. Is it justified to call them out by name in Meta to suggest that they tone it back on the close votes?

@James Just calling out Israel isn't anti-semitism. Calling out Israel for stuff you'd never call any country that wasn't Israel out for is probably anti-semitic.

So I said I'd give SE some time and see where they went. I was planning on giving them until the close of the year to make actual, appreciable forward progress on any of its numerous trip-ups. They haven't, and apparently they've decided to take feedback and hide it and hide discussion. Since this is an actual, appreciable regression, I'll go ahead and head out now. See you guys, I hope you all take care where your lives take you. Good luck in all you do. :)
