Cas
12:22 AM
@JorgeCastro apparently i should ask you about joining bug control

sure
for the deluge bugs?

Cas
yeh

sure, give me a moment, what's your launchpad nick?

Cas
calumlind
or Cas :)

done!
use wisely, etc.

Cas
12:24 AM
thanks for that, yer will do

I have some spiel about great responsibility, but you seem well rounded enough, heh
don't go like invalidate a bunch of glibc bugs or something

Cas
yer ive read up a bit more on the ubuntu bug process

12:35 AM
generally speaking it's your project, so your bugs. So within your little area you're good to go
the problem is that there's no way to say "you do deluge bugs, he does these bugs"
so we have to put everyone on one team and say "ok everyone just stick in your respective areas"
but it works pretty well, since you're doing us the favor by watch those bugs we're not really picky

Is it possible to run ubuntu one on another linux-based OS? http://bit.ly/mYMP8D #ubuntuone

1:18 AM
i'd ask everyone to try and help me out in fixing something
but i'm kinda not in the mood
:P
partly because having the help is dependent on someone testing my code
in a lp project

1:29 AM
morning

Cas
its morning here, so time for sleep :P

@Cas , not for me. it is 9:39am here.

2:39 AM
god it takes forever to build pbuilder environments

what is that for?

3:00 AM
package management

correction
package building
from source packages
... i do a bit of packaging... so i need pbuilder to build the source files to make sure everything builds
then i send the source package up to LaunchPad for a PPA :P

right >.> its 11pm and i'm mind-<censored> from work. Apologies for my fud

no problem

3:17 AM
That's fine

waits for the build to begin
i hope i remembered to package this right...
i think i did

good luck with your packaging. I have only experienced with rpm packaging before but not deb packaging.

it's not hard, just involved

@ajmitch , ya, some of the things are actually pretty easy to do than when it is imagined. but not all things.

and if you know what you're doing...
and are working from skeleton debian setups...
you're fine :p

3:20 AM
@TheEvilPhoenix exactly, so you've got nothing to worry about :)

well...
i might
i made a lucid package on a natty system
so...

that shouldn't be a problem

:)

I build for oneiric on a lucid system

yeah but i trust the ppa building systems to recognize which distro to build in
pbuilder, you need to tell it what to build in
i.e. lucid natty maverick oneric etc.

3:27 AM
right, that's by design, and keeps things simple
the main thing to worry about when building for older releases is all the dependencies & whether they need to be updated as well

in this case the dependencies are gnupg, bash, and apt. :P
and the minimum version useable is defined based off of the last Lucid system i had access to
and is statically set to >= that version
:P

sorry, I meant build-dependencies when it comes time to build them

shouldnt be an issue
the build dependencies on these are irrelevant... its a standard debuild -S package
and if i have to
i'll load a lucid vm
:P

that's fine, as long as you're not doing things like requiring a newer version of debhelper than exists in lucid
I'm guessing that it's a fairly basic package, so it shouldn't matter

mhm
i always use the same control file as a skel
which uses debhelper from lucid
as the base version
and has >= #
where # is the version in Lucid
which would be greater than or equal to it in later versions
:P

3:39 AM
that's fine

Hibernate missing from menu http://bit.ly/ruiKGp #1004

i'd ask ya if you could see the changes i pushed to git, but i pushed to bzr as well...
what i really need is a tester
and i'll bug @Marco to test tomorrow.
... after i get the ppa modified and the code pushed to other ubuntu versions :P
and with an architecture-independent nature since its based on ubuntu-required packages for all architectures...
i dont have to worry about PPA builders...
they just need to use Lucid :p
or maverick or natty

@TheEvilPhoenix , what you need to test?

@JohanSJA someone who trusts my code, and someone who has numerous PGP keys they can test-import using the system... but @Marco is already a designated fix-tester
because @Marco confirmed the bug that I had
and i fixed it... i think...
yawns
too tired to coordinate the tests though
although if you're willing to test the code... i'll have to finish building the .debs in pbuilder
and then upload those .debs to the milestone
i've already built the lucid deb :p
and i'm not willing to test tonight so bleh

haha...
that's ok
i am just asking anyway

3:54 AM
You are uploading the source packages to a PPA, and not binary .debs, right?

4:05 AM
@TheEvilPhoenix so as I understand it, putting .deb files on the +download page is not good

@ajmitch how so?
because the +download page has Installer package types
s/+download/download/
and i had them before for each milestone and nobody from launchpad yelled :P
its built from the same source, and the source tarball is even available
so explain the issues
you have 5 seconds before i lose interest in your statement

but there's no way that people can know that it's the same source, or even a clean build environment
response from launchpad developers was along the lines of "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
& then discussing blacklisting .debs

well they havent blacklisted them yet
so...

No, but it'll happen soon

define "soon" in terms of an actual date or number of days

4:09 AM
When someone writes code to blacklist them, the code gets reviewed, landed & rolled out

i said a number of days or a date
not a nonquantitative answer

And I can't give that

but to please you
i'll use the github area to store the debs.

I can only tell you that launchpad developers know about it now

just to make you happy
and so you'll stfu

4:10 AM
You are being extremely rude about this issue

probly becuase i've been awake for 48 hours straight :p

I was trying to help, and now I regret doing so

1 hour later…
5:23 AM
hi
heya @ajmitch!

5:36 AM
@JorgeCastro hello

5:57 AM
Hello all.
Still haven't heard anything from Canonical yet.

@GeorgeEdison , what are you waiting from Canonical?

I sent in an application.

oh. what is the application?

6:24 AM
For a job on the Unity team.

What happen to Netbeans? the font is very Ugly!
does any one use Netbeans on Natty?

@Achu , abandon Netbeans for a long time. Eclipse user right now.

uhooo
I found this question askubuntu.com/questions/32624/ugly-fonts-in-netbeans but the answer doesn't work for me and it is not clear.
@GeorgeEdison Can i ask this question again at AU? if someone has the solution

@Achu Go ahead.
I make no guarantees that I'll know the answer, but go ahead.

I wonder if it will be dup ;)

6:35 AM
@Achu Oooooh. Wait a sec.
I misunderstood what you said.
I thought you were going to ask me a question here.
I didn't realize you meant ask the same question on AU.
No, that will get closed as a dupe right away.

haha
yeah i get that
But is there a way at AU to bump someone's question?

Yup.
Make a useful edit to the question.

by editing?
Ok sure

Maybe fix the grammar or spelling or see if a sentence can be reworded better.

Grammar? :) i don't think so, my be the spelling :)

6:46 AM
How to use Unity Dashboard in Gnome classic? http://bit.ly/n7SDc6 #unity

@GeorgeEdison done editing. it needs approval :)

I just saw it.

did i make it wrong?

Nope... I just touched up a couple other things and approved your edit.
It's been bumped now.

Thanks :D

Q: Ugly fonts in Netbeans - How can i make it use the system font?

javiervdI'm having problems getting the Netbeans font to look nice, this has been a problem ever since I tried Ubuntu ~8. For some reason fonts look like they're not getting subpixel smoothing in Netbeans only, for the rest of the applications they look perfect. Look at how ugly the screenshot is: It...

7:24 AM
Good morning

@Takkat 0/
Morning!

o/

@Takkat What IDE you are using Eclipse or Netbeans?

none of them ;)

Notpad? :)

7:28 AM
so I am of no help to answer your question :/
I don't do web.

ohh

7:46 AM
is upgrading main box from 10.04 to 11.04

@Takkat using manual re-installation or software update?

I'll reinstall fresh for clean-up
so many apps I installed but never use
still ~25 apps I'll have to reinstall manually :/

i don't feel installing apps is a difficult task in Ubuntu.
Since we don't have to really 'search' for it.

Oli
8:06 AM
Morning all.
@JohanSJA Assuming they're in a standard repository. If they're not it means adding ppas or (if they're not in any repo - eg a humble indie bundle game) it get's a lot more manual.

@Oli, still having a package manager is one big advantage for Linux.

Oli
@JohanSJA Oh definitely.

still backing up

8:32 AM
Backups done - ready for upgrade!

1 hour later…
9:47 AM
A text editor or viewer with folding based on indentation http://bit.ly/pFotsm #softwarerecommendation

\o/ is back

@Takkat , with upgraded 11.04?

of course!
feels great.
already done the updates and some applications. Now comes fine tuning and printer drivers ;)
My launcher also is still a bit messed up

something new and already messed up?

It's previous settings from my HOME

10:01 AM
oh I see...
i normally delete all settings when upgrading
:)

I like to keep my keyring at least ;P
now reinstalling some ppa

what are your favorite ppa?
i don't remember installing any ppa for this installation
i used to do it to get chromium and firefox
but not in 11.04

I use the svn version of guayadeque, have ffgtk running, use darktable..
damnit 404 on some ppa

10:45 AM
Yes! arduino arrived

\o/

10:58 AM
can anyone help me? I'm trying to install a x86 application on x64 machine. It's partimage in case you're interested.

@Greg Have you installed ia32-libs ?

@Achu yeah, they're installed already

so, sudo dpkg -i - -force-architecture yourpackage.deb doesn't work?

--force-architecture!

I haven't tried that... I'll have a go now

11:03 AM
@Takkat THanks :)

;)

Couldn't get partimage installed... Just trying dd_rescue
nice one it worked... now for the real task.

11:21 AM
@Greg Cool

Never done this before, so I'd be grateful of any help you could give... I'm going to try to install Ubuntu to a small partition on my external HDD, but so it is persistant (so settings and customisations stay between boots).

Kim
11:32 AM
Do you guys work in the same company?

@Greg this worked for me: askubuntu.com/questions/16988/…

@Kim I work in the UK, I don't think most of you live there too, do you?
@Takkat Thanks, I'll look into it.

11:53 AM
@MarcoCeppi around?

@TheEvilPhoenix Not yet, ask me in an hour. I'm not on the same machine as yesterday.

ok. I fixed the bug tho and pushed to lucid maverick and natty so... :P
I will bug ya in an hour

No stackApplet build ofr today?
Was hopeing that my new translation would be in it.. been waiting for the last ouple of days for my update....

@Greg Sorry, I'm in the office and i was busy. I think Takkat's advice help you to install Ubuntu on external HDD. if you face a problem when you do that, let us know :)

@Achu I'm fixing the HDD first (partition corrupted :/) then I'll get round to it. Thanks.

12:03 PM
@georgeEdison no StackApplet build for today? :O

@Greg No, prob ;)

12:51 PM
Install MS Truetype Fonts system-wide for all users http://bit.ly/njpYqJ #aptget

greetings, members of the human race. :P
@Alvar did you know that the build systems are all stressy and are all busy building packages?
took 2 hours for a priority=critical update to my project's ppas to build

aha
didn't know that
I get this from StackApplet dev version (latest, not as stable) all the time I upgrade...
`Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y
WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
stackapplet`

1:06 PM
you need the PGP keys
or its just unsigned
but it works for me :P

well I added sudo apt-key yesterday
so now I only get it on that package
marco ceppi helped! :)

so does it say what key you need?
because if its not autodownloading the key

dont think so...

my script will help with that
granted its in its own PPA but :P

$ sudo apt-key update

1:08 PM
well continue anyways
i've done that before
and it hasnt always added the keys ;)

one day all keys were just gone... very strange
got my first apartment today... not all great, the internet there is kind of slow the more that uses it the slower it gets...
all 35 is sharing one line :/

YES YES YES!!!!
MY NEW TRANSLATION IS IN TODAYS BUILD! :)

want the rage stick to hit the apartment building people? :P

I'm the man! :P
@TheEvilPhoenix haha naah....
@TheEvilPhoenix the rage stick is busy right?! it was yesterday! ;)

1:14 PM
no its not busy
the rage stick is right here....
the actual destructive one is busy...
raging at someone who wants to rescope security.se to be non-ITSec

why can't I use StackApplet for launchpad? :) that would be awesome! :)
@TheEvilPhoenix lol

cough*blueprints*cough

@TheEvilPhoenix security.se .se is the swedish domain :P
lol

I need someone who is really good with C nearby today

1:16 PM
@TheEvilPhoenix you big LOL I want to hit you now... borrowing the rage stick to hit you with it
@MarcoCeppi Just C not c++?

goes and stands nearby @Marco :P

JAVA FTW!!! :P

Kernel is written in C

aha

I'm getting odd errors and I kind of know why, but I don't really know why
So I'm going to google for about 30 mins then come in here and cry at whoever can help me

1:18 PM
@MarcoCeppi that's usually how it is...
@MarcoCeppi stackoverflow c chat room?! :O

C# != C

@TheEvilPhoenix it's not C++! :O
C# == null;

(C++ OR C#) != "C"

PHP > C(++|#)

what isn't there a "C" room?!

1:21 PM
Wish they wrote the kernel in php :P
5
Would have been the worst project ever

@MarcoCeppi php is more than C(++ I #) :O
@MarcoCeppi Java would have been worse! :)

hehe
I think Linus picked a good language. C is pretty solid

It might have worked well with the Java desktop! xD
@MarcoCeppi C++ isn't that solid, you can make programs that compiel fine but can have major issues!

yesterday, by The Evil Phoenix
@Alvar <standard rage level due to how much is on my schedule> * <Hours to work with Microsoft Software> + (6*<systems running WinXP>) * <number of servers being evil> == epic rage level 5000000000000000
remember this?

@TheEvilPhoenix yes ;)
@TheEvilPhoenix I starred it xD

1:25 PM
i'm amending it: [ <standard rage level due to how much is on schedule> * (50000000 * <number of projects with an unfeasible due date>) * <Hours to work with MSoft software> * (6*<number of systems running Windows XP>) ] ^ <number of servers being evil> == hyper rage mode, level 500000000000000000000000000
because i have 6 projects new todya
that they want due on friday
which is my last day of work before university

@TheEvilPhoenix good for you! kepp up teh good work, you might be employee of the month! ;)
@TheEvilPhoenix My university starts at 24 of august ....

@Alvar they wont get completed. hence the massive change in that equation.

@TheEvilPhoenix lol

and notice the ^ (power) symbol
there's 50 servers being evil today
so...........
@Marco you able to test my project's fixes now?

@TheEvilPhoenix 50 servers with windows? damn that company must be the slowest in the world....

1:29 PM
@TheEvilPhoenix sure

@Alvar its a state government... not feds, not local, but state... so....

@TheEvilPhoenix got to build it?

@TheEvilPhoenix I feel for you... I would have finished school A year earlier if we had A nix based system. sad really....
:D

if you used the PPA, i updated it last night
god damned chat throttles...

@TheEvilPhoenix could this work for me? I'm excited :P

1:32 PM
@MarcoCeppi its a bash script... no building needed :P
@Alvar depends on what you need... you'd need to know the PGP key you need to download... since sometimes apt-key update doesnt work right :P

oooh.
well it worked for some

@MarcoCeppi feel free to use the other key on my launchpad... or lemme know i'll give ya the address to my test keyserver...

@TheEvilPhoenix stop updating the edit I get 3 popup screens :P

and the ID for the sample keys i put there.
@Alvar i have to to evade the throttling system.

hmm...

1:33 PM
it has me waiting 8 seconds between posts

whooooot :O
@TheEvilPhoenix it's windows fault ;)

@Alvar i'm talking from a linux system... i'm using mobile wifi + my laptop to talk on this.
but that's all i can do because of bandwidth

@TheEvilPhoenix ouch
I had a lan with my laptop and some friends with a online tetris throw a edge connection which is under 1mb/s

now... the time for war against the evil that is spam mail has come... >:)

we had like 3 connected uers
it was crazy, we had dropouts and lags and all kind of stuff

1:37 PM
:P
oh snap... hey @Marco can you add a ` to the end of this for me? chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/1520223#1520223
since my keyboard screwed up and didnt type it subsequently hits the keyboard with his fist

Oli
@TheEvilPhoenix Done

@Oli +5003 rep to ya
