the screenshot is too big

Were you seriously considering that, I was joking.

at least I am..

Heh, the question has 2 votes and 1 view, one of you must have voted without looking at it :P

thats @Ashu for sure
he has history of such things

see i can prove you not right
@HaLaBi i do?

12:05 PM
at least make sure of the scale
the blue button is smaller than the other button.. bad cheater @Ashu

it is perfect.... no scaling was done
the size is right

:D
you could have give him the +1 and not spend the time in MS Paint.. :D

that was just to prove you not right
well anyways i am on ubuntu
editing was a bit more hassle

Gimp?

i dont usually need professional editors
i am using pinta

12:09 PM
I dont like ubuntu

but i needed shotwell for this job too
@HaLaBi its better than windows in most cases
except gaming

I disagree... windows is slow.. i admit.. but windows had the best backward compatibility in the whole OSs business
*have not had

@Ashu You always have "tux racer" :P
I remember playing an online game with tanks where you collect power-ups and nuke other teams
it was cool.

@HaLaBi well backward compatibility is not much an issue as in ubuntu you keep getting newer versions of the software in most cases
k accept there are exception
but i had problems running older games on windows 7 too

no.. i am talking about company businesses... where they do not recommend upgrading software.. but they love to upgrade OS.. thats something.. no other system provide..

12:13 PM
@HaLaBi im unaware of that
srry
BRB i have a spanish lesson to finish

@HaLaBi You knew Arabic right?

imagine a company spends millions on development.. then after few years a new OS comes.. they just can not re-develop the software just to make it compatible with the new OS.. in windows.. no problem.. just put win95 app in win 7 and it will work..
@yasar11732 yes i know arabic..

Does the word "nafs" have any relation with "breath/breathing" or "delicious" ?

yes.. it is a word with many meanings..
Nafs, means live..
Nafas means breath..
it is complicated.. I can't sort it all.. tell me the context..

We use Nafas in Turkish, that is why I was suspected.

12:17 PM
@Ashu If you were smart, you would manipulate the HTML and make it happen

@Manishearth He is not here.

@Manishearth now we are talking.. thats a cheating skill i would appreciate.. ;)

hehehehehehehe

How do you paste images here?

12:19 PM
@HaLaBi Either make it contentEditable, upvote, and edit the vote count to zero, or add class .vote-up-on to the upvote arrow

there is Upload button next to send button

@yasar11732 There's an upload button
Or you can just paste the URL

I might have cropped it a little :)

hehehehehehehehehehe

@Manishearth i didnt think of that
thats cool
@yasar11732 whats that triangle icon on the taskbar

12:24 PM
You mean this aimp2.us
?

@yasar11732 hee hee I edited it
(just kidding)

How the hell did you change my image?

Magic
@yasar11732 I'm a moderator, so I get mod powers all over chat
Which includes editing

Oww, cool.

Anyway, fixed it

12:26 PM
thats not fair

@Ashu ?

flag him

Me?

@Manishearth yeah

@Ashu Just a bit of fun :) Anyway, I fixed it

12:27 PM
well there are no appropriate flags

You can flag for mod attention

@Manishearth joking dude

I know you are :P
I'm not entirely sure if I can see flags on my own posts

the flag will come to u then you will reject it :P

@Manishearth Are you a SE staff?

12:28 PM
On the main sites, if someone flags my post, I will not be able to see the flag
Dunno about chat
@yasar11732 Nope
Chemistry moderator
All moderators get mod access on chat
I just hang around the new sites sometimes, giving advice and helping them out

@Manishearth That is weird, I would have thought otherwise.

@yasar11732 If you go to the profile of a diamonded SE staff member, they have a diamond on all sites

@yasar11732 I am answering your question.. check this point:
6. For a change, You can help your mother in the kitchen and burn things. That's fun!
hehehehehehehehehehehehe

@Manishearth For a SE staff to have power all over network makes sense to me, but for mod of a site having mod access on another sites chat doesn't make sense.
@HaLaBi :)

@yasar chat moderation is mainly removing offensive posts, etc. It is easier to spread the chat flags to all the mods, there is nothing subject specific about it
This is because chat is a single "site"

12:34 PM
@Manishearth Now you mention it, there really is a single site for chat. I didn't realize it before :)

The reason each site has its own mods is this: they have been elected by the community(except for beta sites), and they are "trusted" by the community. Plus, they know the subject matter
But on chat there isn't a diversity of stuff a mod has to do, so the trust issue isnt too big. Also, you don't need subject knowledge.
Anyway, there are some things that an Islam.se mod(or a comm team member) can do on your chat that I can't
For one, I cannot see a private room associated with your site(mind you, I say "private" room, not gallery chat--these rooms are completely invisible uless given access)
I can create such a room, and an islam.se mod can give me access, but if the room already exists, I cannot see it

I didn't know there was such a thing.

Of course you didn't
It's an option only available to mods
We have access to sensitive data, not everything ought to be public
Plus, it is better to discuss a particular user in private
Etc etc

So, can I create a private chat with some user?

We have access to sensitive data, not everything ought to be public
We have access to sensitive data, not everything ought to be public
Nope
I can create one and give you access
But these chats are only for serious moderation stuff
So of course, I won't :p

12:48 PM
@HaLaBi Are you here?

yup

Did you see comments on my question?

yup i saw it now..
he is right.. alcohol is not fun

:) I was asking about if the question didn't fit the QA format.

your question is good..

12:51 PM
Which one?

2
Q: How should a muslim have fun?

yasar11732Muslims understanding of fun can't be same as of non-muslims because we can't do much things non-muslims can do for fun, for example, we can't consume alcohol, smoke, hang out with boyfriend/girlfriend and I guess there are different opinions about music etc. On the other hand, having fun is a hu...

Could you tell me what adab means? (sorry, I'm not a muslim)
It looks like an open ended question. Not good (but it depends upon what adab means)

good manners excepted by Islam

For example, adab of doing this -> What is a good way of doing this according to islam.

12:55 PM
Kk
I think your post could be improved with some edits

Adab is part of religios teachings.
@Manishearth How?

Yeah, i understood :)
Hmm, ill try to make the edits myself, but you'll need to approve them (I'll tell you how later)

I know how to accept edits :)

I am slightly changing the tone of it to make it more QA, note

@Manishearth sure.

1:03 PM
A Muslim's understanding of fun can't be exactly the same as of a non-muslim, because we can't do many things non-muslims can do for fun. For example, we can't consume alcohol, smoke, hang out with a boyfriend/girlfriend, and I guess there are different opinions about music etc.

On the other hand, having fun is a human need and so Islam must allow some way to have fun. What is the adab of having fun? In other words, what limits exist on having fun?
OK with you?
I've changed it to a "what limits exist", which is more QA

@yasar11732 I answerd. i hope it is not stupid answer..
0
A: How should a muslim have fun?

HaLaBiThe good news is: The Halal fun things are much more than the Haram things. But for some reason you only enlisted bad things and consider them as fun. For example who said alcohol was fun? it makes you run away from reality. actually it will make you look funny! so people who see you will make fu...

@yasar I'll submit the edit, reject it if you think it needs changes :)

@Manishearth I think it changes focus from what I am asking.

@yasar11732 OK
What are you asking?

The thing is, something in Islam may be allowed but not liked. For example, laughing out loud may not be forbidden but I think Prophet didn't like it.

1:07 PM
Oh right, you want etiquette

I am not asking for limits, I am asking for how Prophet would suggest we do have fun.

@yasar11732 But that is too broad :\
OK, fine I'll modify and submit

what applies at prophet times does not apply now..
horse riding, hunting.. sword fighting.. thats the fun they had..

@yasar11732 You can approve it now (I removed the limits part)
@HaLaBi The answer is a bit too chatty
Actually, the question seems rather .... opinionated

yup

1:10 PM
Besides from being a make-a-list

you can not know what is fun for all people
each one has a different view of fun..

Exactly. If you see halabi's answer, you can easily realise that the question is make-a-list and thus Not Constructive
And also opinion-mongering
So it is better if it is closed :\
In my opinion, anyway

Hmm, I was expecting someone say something like Prophet did this to have fun or said this to the person doing this etc.

@yasar11732 Yes, but the make-a-list aspect is still there

I think I am going meta on this :)

1:12 PM
Yep
Good idea

Can I link to this point in chat?

Yeah
24 mins ago, by yasar11732
:) I was asking about if the question didn't fit the QA format.
(the 24 mins ago is a link to the beginning)

Ok, here is the discussion,

Q: Are adab questions too open ended, or listy?

yasar11732Consider my question How should a muslim have fun? . It had some disagreement as not being a good fit for QA format. You can see the comments below it, and also the transcript of the discussion on chat here. I think it is a good and on-topic because adab is part of the islam. A question like min...

I'll put my opinion there

ok.

1:21 PM
@Manishearth please don't..

@HaLaBi Why?

just kidding..
because you will be against the issue..

So?
THat's the point of a meta discussion :)
ANyway, it won't really be an against

@HaLaBi I agree with "that's the point of a meta discussion"
@Manishearth since you are a mod on chemistrt, can I ask a off-topic question?

Sure

1:27 PM
What is earth? I mean the thing plants grow in. Is it like an element or compound or what? (sorry I suck at chemistry)

@yasar11732 Earth is made of various compounds
It's mainly roch (and then you have soil)
Rock itself is made from various compounds
Short story: It's a mix
@yasar11732 Soil is also a mix
Soil is made from decomposed living matter and bits of rock
Decomposed living matter ==> complicated compounds
Rock ==> simpler compounds
@yasar11732 That answer it?

Yes thanks, I always wondered that lol :)

ok @Manishearth can I ask one?

k, sure :)

is there any elements not from earth??
not element

1:30 PM
@HaLaBi Many

you know that grid with the materials..
carbon-iron.......

Yep

is there any other materials from other planets that do not exist on earth?

Some exist with such a small percentage that we have to synthesize them

lol "that grid with the materials" -> I think it had a name.

1:31 PM
Not from other planets
THe Periodic Table

Ohh yes, now I remember.

thats the one
finally

The ones with dotted borders are synthetically prepared

ok..

1:32 PM
But, those elements won't be found on other planets either
Not with a significant percentage, anyway

Ok, my turn :D

I heard or read in some place that some of materials came with shooting stars..

@HaLaBi Iridium

not shooting stars... the little planets fall on earth..

@HaLaBi Asteroids

1:33 PM
yup

There is some Iridium native to earth, but a lot of it comes from asteroids, yes

so anything special about them? like in movies

@Manishearth Can you make water if you have oxygen and hydrogen, or does it have to be natural somehow?

@HaLaBi Naah

you eat them you get powers??? anything special about them??

1:33 PM
@yasar11732 Yeah. Spark them
@HaLaBi Nope. Radioactive materials can mutate you, but that won't make you better at anything--you'll be worse

Like put the two inside of a tube, and flame it?

@yasar11732 Electric spark is better for H2O, but yeah

I need some close votes please
:)

Haha, chemistry is fun when you are out of school :)

please feel free to give your opinions

1:35 PM
Well, you know my stance on it :)

OP leading the question down their theological road: islam.stackexchange.com/questions/1240/…

@ashes999 I like the question to be honest.. People other than muslims think it is about Islam.. my opinion :)

Yep @yasar11732, I also posted a response in meta
@HaLaBi I agree that it's a good question. But it's about Muslims, not Islam, and so, is not a good fit for our site.

ok, i thought it is about the symbol question..

(three different questions)

1:38 PM
ypu @ashes999 I voted to close the daughter question..

I don't like that one too.

it seems like it's leading up to something ... sinister
"okay great, now I can kill her in the name of Islam (honour killing)"

But, what do you flag it with, not constructive?

yeah
surprisingly, it doesn't matter what you close it as
five close votes (3 non-constructive, 2 off topic) = BAM, closed

well, islam made these sins with equal punishment for men and women.. but people mutate that to fit their CULTURE..

1:40 PM
@ashes999 Yeah, I would close that
@HaLaBi That needs to be avoided

I didn't get you..

@HaLaBi he's agreeing with you.

ok..

@ashes999 flagged not constructive

@HaLaBi I'm saying that yes, such questions where someone is "mutating something to fit their culture" should be actively suppressed

1:42 PM
yup.. these people destroy the image of Islam..

@HaLaBi Don't want to beat a dead horse, but some of you(including you) were abusing Israel the other day. This also "destroys the image", please don't be offensive like that

I am not being offensive. Anything I said I can back it up with proofs. some of these proofs can be Images, Videos.....
unless you just wanna follow a certain point of view who ever is against that point of view then he is wrong.. thats a different story..

@HaLaBi One sec, let me find it

ok

@ashes999 see this website globalwebpost.com/farooqm/hadith_humor/hadith_laugh.html won't something like this answer my question?

1:52 PM
@HaLaBi Calling a country "the cancer of the Earth" is an opinion. A highly offensive one at that. How can you prove that?

OK, follow my lofic
logic
What is a cancer?
disease? what does a disease do? kill...

@HaLaBi Unregulated cell growth

right?
which is a disease...

@HaLaBi You can say that about any country.

No.. let me finish..

1:53 PM
k

check this video in this page:
a soldier beating a 9 years old kid..

Again, that happens on both sides

For me, and most of Arabs.. Israel is like cancer... spreading wekaness and bad things all over our countries...
I told you.. thats my opinion.. count the dead from both sides.. you will know :)
1:10 kill rate... I will be with the 10!! which is my people...

@HaLaBi Yes, but saying that in chat will get the message deleted

1:55 PM
It is ok..

And you may get suspended from chat

I did not talk about the people..I talked about the country.. the system..
Remember

@yasar11732 yes, like I said, too broad.

Q: Movies in Islam

AshuAre movies allowed in Islam? I am speaking about sci fi, romance, horror, comedy or cartoon movies. Reading this question makes me think only horror movies are an exception rest all are allowed. I think educational movies that teach us about Islam or some school/college related work are al...

It is ok.. Its not like i am getting suspended from heaven ;)

1:56 PM
Saying something blatantly offensive about a country will insult its people as well

@HaLaBi getting suspended will not help you propogate the true message of Islam.
We need to be more understanding of how we deal with people.

I am trying my best here..

It's not about haqq and baatil, it's about treating people right, no matter what they may feel or believe. It takes a LOT of patience.
2

But.. lets say this..
when a guy came and cursed my country.. and my kings.. I flagged it.. nothing happened..

link?
there was a moderator lag. As we've said in so many meta questions, don't feed the trolls. Leave them in social isolation.

1:57 PM
because they are arabs.. u know.. mulims are cheap.. kill 100 no body do a thing..
but when we mention Israel by any mean... all mods from all over the world will come and talk and threaten..

@halabi actually, that guy was suspended

you need to be more patient bro. InshaAllah you will clear it in akhirah.
@Manishearth can I get the link?

Asalamu wa alaikum

@Manishearth he was not because of my flags...

wa'alikum as-salaam! @AlUmmat

1:59 PM
wa alaikum salam

how is everyone today?

There's no issue with mentioning israel. Calling it the cancer of the world is extremely offensive

@Manishearth Please be fair.. be logical!!! if you see something like that about lets say.... Iran.. or North Korea.. would you even dare to tell people not to talk?? please be honest..

alhamdulillah.
+1 @Ma

@AlUmmat @goldPseudo since you guys are here, can you check this and let me know what do you think? meta.islam.stackexchange.com/questions/291/…
