Q: Is it possible to have multiple greater rift keystones at once

ChippiesI have a Greater Rift Keystone that I use for running with my wife, but I also want to get one for when I solo. Is it possible to have multiple Greater Rift Keystones on same character at once?

Philipp SanderBlizzard released a High Definition mod for Diablo 1. Is it possible to play it online? Is it played online?

@fredley *Mojang
Unity is still €57/mo or €1,140 + upgrades

@Chippies Like in your inventory? Sure.
Why wouldn't it be?
That's why the keystones themselves have the level.

11:28 AM
@fredley The problem with that is I'm not sure I can think of any buyer who would be interested in keeping support for all those platforms.

Okay, coffee, don't let me down

@MBraedley Why do ya perk me up? (perk me up) perk me up coffee just to crash me down (crash me down).

@5pike You probably do

@OrigamiRobot Because a second one won't drop?

@MartinSojka I even have proof of it not happening! Here is a powerpoint with a screenshot in it.

Banana-In-BlackAfter I pressed it, someone said "This can't be good" and ground's shaking. I thought water should fill in this sewer or something but no, nothing else happened. Is there any event about it? Or is it some kind of easter egg?

@Arperum Do you have access to the server logs? When someone asks "Where are my mails", the answer is mostly "none were sent".

@fredley I didn't look too closely at the posting name, but thought it was funny.

@KevinvanderVelden they do browser detection, apparently: if it sends a browser user agent and it expects html, it'll send html, otherwise straight data
Although in this case the browser said "Accept:image/webp,*/*;q=0.8" and got HTML back, so huh.
SO MUCH FOR HACKER NEWS

@5pike The answer was none were sent.
@Frank Last week there was some client "we are receiving less mails than normally! Fix!" My boss was not in a good mood after that phonecall. "What do you mean by less" "Less mails than normal" "If you could give the sentdate/sender of a mail that didn't arrive, we'll look it up" "But less mails!" ...

@Arperum Yeah. Less mail doesn't automatically mean there's a problem.

@StrixVaria Hahaha

@MartinSojka That's a good thing.

@StrixVaria I want to make a version of this

@fredley I saw your PQ question and why is that thing mentioned. I assume the "discussion" yesterday has something to do with it?

1:45 PM
@Arperum eh?

@fredley PQ = Progress Quest

@fredley Would play.

I am not a fan of that question. PQ is not so much a game as a satire on games.

@StrixVaria It's the idea of having a linear equation for t' where you can pay to upgrade the coefficients

@StrixVaria The centering on the numbers would drive me insane.

1:46 PM
@JasonBerkan I have to count groups of numbers a lot. That's 1.7 quattuordecillion.

@Arperum About half your utterances of NINJA are pointed at me. I feel this is a good thing, even if it has room for improvement

@PrivatePansy Dammit.
I'm gonna want that now.

@PrivatePansy I'm terrified!

Of course, I'm not going to touch it until it's done.
I have way too much to play, and soaking up an Early Access game means I'm going to lose interest in it before it's done.

@KevinvanderVelden That actually surprises me. I expected it to be more.

That reminds me.
I should play more SpaceChem.

@Arperum Uuh wait, it's a bit more than half, 1 for 3ventic, 2 for Frank, 1 for fredley and 8 for me
I thought it was 5/7, one was just "BAD NINJA" and I didn't bother to check who it was aimed at

@PrivatePansy This terrifies me
Spacechem was already brain melting in pieces

A brilliant type of brain melting
I should go back and try those last few missions again

2:00 PM
I love that games like SpaceChem exist, because I like to see what people do with them. But I couldn't have less interest in ever trying to play a game like that myself.

Gah. That new bounty is for a straight up mod rec.

A: The community is closing "mod rec" questions?

Billy MailmanI agree that mod recommendation questions probably shouldn't be closed with the Game Rec close reason, because Mod Recs, while similar, are not quite the same. But I think they should be closed, and mercilessly. Part of the problem is that, if we have a question of the form I'm playing Deaths...

I thought "I want to be able to do this" was ok if the only answer was a mod, but "I want a mod that does this" was not ok

2:08 PM
@Wipqozn it's trying to prevent you from making your mom "jokes". I approve of this initiative!

@Sconibulus That's my understanding.

@Wipqozn try mum

@KevinvanderVelden Man, what a jerk.

So a bounty that wants just straight up wants a mod should be refunded, as that's off-topic.

So a bounty that wants just straight up wants a mod should be refunded, as that's off-topic.

It looks like that question is On-Topic, but the bounty is Off-Topic?

@Wipqozn The bounty is off-topic.

@Frank Have bounties ever been refunded?

2:11 PM
@Yuuki Yep.

@Sconibulus yup.

@Frank the top answer is not a mod

@badp But a bounty that specifically wants a mod is going to attract off-topic answers.
> Preferred: A mod that would completely disable death.

@Frank The second top answer is a mod.

@Frank Saying you prefer a certain answer doesn't make your question a mod rec.

2:12 PM
58 secs ago, by Frank
@badp But a bounty that specifically wants a mod is going to attract off-topic answers.

So is the third.

@Frank Mods are a perfectly viable answer to a problem.

@badp I still don't really like the question. I'm saying the bounty itself is an off-topic problem space.
@Wipqozn Yes. The question itself is iffy.
By bountying it with a specifically off-topic bounty text, it's getting pushed into bad territory.
The bounty wants a mod that does a specific thing.

How is a mod solution to a problem an off-topic answer. I don't even understand that.

@Frank Iffy doesn't mean off-topic, though. We can't tell users you're not allowed to put a bounty on your question because your question is iffy.

2:14 PM
What I'm saying is that I don't feel I have enough command of the meta here and will delegate to others

People will now answer the bounty text, regardless of whether or not it's part of the question.

It appears however that this mod-rec question was allowed because it has non-mod solutions (?) and that makes the mod solutions okay (?)

@Wipqozn The question itself isn't iffy enough to close.

@Frank With what? Mods? there's nothing wrong with mods as an answer. There's nothing wrong with saying you prefer mods as a solution.

But if the bounty itself had been asked as a question, it would have been closed.

2:15 PM
It certainly isn't the problematic "I ANT FLUTTERSHY IN GTA5 HALP" kind of problem

@Wipqozn Which is totally unrelated to the question itself.

If users start posting links to random mods that have nothing to do with the question we can downvote+ delete them as required.

It's essentially hijacking the question to get a mod-rec.

@Frank I'm not sure what you mean.

Guy talks about problems with death in game.

2:16 PM
@Frank but we do seem to allow and accept mod answers?!

but we do

But if the bounty itself had been asked as a question, it would have been closed.

would it?

@Frank No, it would have been rephrased.

what question?

I know I would've voted to close.

2:17 PM
As I said I don't have enough command of the meta on this topic to be comfortable

@Frank I would have fought that closure.
He has a problem. It's a real question.
In fact, I've had the same problem with Minecraft.

@JasonBerkan The asker has a problem. The bountier wants a mod that stops death altogether.

Oh, and then badp undid his. I'm double slow.

@Wipqozn well done team.

It's essentially hijacking the question to get a mod-rec.

@badp UGH THAT BOUNTY
I want to cancel the bounty without refunding.

@Frank Mod-recs are not the big bad beast that you think they are.

2:19 PM
@JasonBerkan As questions, yes, they are.
Especially for Minecraft.
@StrixVaria WE AGREE!
This is a day for celebration.

@Frank @StrixVaria isn't @Sterno though, and I bet @Sterno would disagree with you.
If no other reason than to just disagree with you.

@Wipqozn If he did, the world would burn.

The way I'm reading it is "Oh hey, there is an answer for Vanilla, but I really just want a mod I can install so I don't have to set it up for every new world" in which case a bounty is the way to go rather than asking a new question

I don't disagree with @Frank on principle. I just have generally fallen away from taking the extreme "ban all topics" stance I used to have.
Although I am still pro-banning lore and technical issues.
I just don't have the will to argue about it.

@Batophobia Which is off-topic. Mod recommendation questions, by themselves, are closed.

2:22 PM
@StrixVaria I've noticed this, and appreciate it.
oh my lord @Frank is like a young @StrixVaria.

@StrixVaria I'm currently working my way towards seeing some areas in this manner. It's a work in progress, though.
NOW I WANT TO TAKE THAT BACK JUST BECAUSE OF @Wipqozn!

@Frank And duplicate questions asking for more recent answers since a certain version are also closed. Bounties seem to have different rules than questions

It's essentially hijacking the question to get a mod-rec.

@StrixVaria It's true, I did.

@Frank But the question already has a mod answer

To meet certain criteria that the asker didn't ask for.

Also, that 60 seconds reminded me I'm hungry. I should get food.

@Frank Which is part of the reason for bounties

@JasonBerkan I agree. I don't think mod-recs are as cut and dry as people make them out to be.

@Batophobia To use as off-topic vehicles?

2:27 PM
Well, certain people, like that @Frank guy. He's such a hater.
HATERS GONE HATE CLOSE

@Frank No, to ask for additional information outside the OP scope
It prevents duplicates that are not EXACTLY duplicates

@Batophobia Which would be great, if the bounty itself wasn't a close reason all by itself.
It essentially jumps to a conclusion: Death is bad. Give me a mod that disables death.
It's an XY problem, in bounty form.

Well, bounties have a required wait time of 1 day, so maybe the OP just wants to reward one of the mod answers

@Batophobia There's a bounty reason for that.
That's not what was chosen.

@Batophobia IMO, this is what new questions are for. Voting to close as duplicate should be for exact duplicates.

2:31 PM
That's my piece; I don't think bounties should be allowed to bypass our closure rules, and this one should be refunded because it's something we would close by itself.
We now return to your regularly scheduled drama!

@Batophobia Except that the bounty is not given by the OP, but by some random other person.

@Arperum Yes, I just noticed that
replace("OP","other user");

@Batophobia I doubt it. The current solutions just remove the sting of death. The bounty asks for the removal of death.

I can see why someone would prefer a mod over having to deal with command blocks, though

@Batophobia Minecraft needs a CLI

@Batophobia well there was this one dude who wanted a command block so he could reop himself if he was ever deopped...

@Batophobia no, he was playing on a server and feared he was gonna be deopped so he wanted to make a backdoor

This is mostly what confuses me

2:41 PM
@KevinvanderVelden "Press button, receive op"

Yeah pretty much

If we allow a kind of answer, what's the problem with bountying for it?

@badp because we don't allow people to ask for it in an independent question

@murgatroid99 ...but that's a problem of the question
Here we're talking answers

@badp Why can you ask for something via bounty, but not in its own question?

2:44 PM
@murgatroid99 because it'd be a dupe?

@murgatroid99 Because you are requesting additional info

Because there is nothing wrong when you have a valid question / problem, with saying that you'd like a mod solution.

The so-called "XY" problem is "please only give me mods (Y) that disable death (X)" and the fix is removing the "Y": "how can I disable death? (X)"
But once the question is in an acceptable form, encouraging a certain kind of answer seems... okay with me
"How to disable death, possibly by using mods?" is different from "How can I use mods to disable death"
answers that don't use mods wouldn't get downvoted, but they wouldn't get the bounty either
that seems okay with me
so long as answering questions with mods is allowed, I don't really see the problem

Otherwise, you want a mod answer but the only thing you get is Vanilla and everyone moves on to the next unanswered question

again: it's a problem of allowed answers, not allowed questions
IMVHO

2:47 PM
@badp The asker wasn't asking for a mod that disabled death.
The bounty is, though.

@Frank Are you allowed to answer the question with mods?

@Frank But a mod that disabled death is a valid answer to the question.

@badp @JasonBerkan Yeah, there's no issue with that.

I feel like people asking questions shouldn't presume knowledge of the answer.
Bounties are a form of asking questions.

20 mins ago, by Frank
It essentially jumps to a conclusion: Death is bad. Give me a mod that disables death.

2:48 PM
@Frank So what's the problem with preferring one kind of solution to another?

@badp The bounty is independent; it's hijacking the question to get his preferred solution.

You can use difficulty levels, game modes, command blocks, and mods. Would you have any issue if the bounty was about command block solutions?
That's still an XY problem ("how can I use command blocks (Y) to disable death (X)"), just a different Y.

@badp Mods inherently broaden the scope into something that turns it into a problem.

@Frank but we do allow them as answers.

It's why recommendation questions in general are off-topic.

2:49 PM
@Frank That is not true.

@badp So long as there's a problem to be solved, yes.

Specifically requesting mod-based solutions seems dirtier than specifically requesting some vanilla game-mechanic based solution.

@Frank That is the case here.

@badp For the question. Yes, I am not arguing that.

@StrixVaria ...or, you don't like it as much, but is that grounds for disallowing the bounty?

2:50 PM
The question is being hijacked for a specific solution. A solution that, as a question, we do not allow by itself.

@badp I clearly don't like it as much, and I'm trying to figure out if that's just my opinion or if there's some underlying reason that I'm struggling to give words.
I guess the reason is that I can't imagine why you would specifically want a mod if you could do exactly what you wanted without a mod.
It's excessive.

@StrixVaria Same here: I agree that the potential scope for mods is infinite, but... they're just yet another kind of type of answer we allow. If we're going to frame this as a "XY" problem then clearly the problem should continue to exist for all Y?

Bounties are for more attention, providing more detail, updating answers, and rewarding existing answers.

mornin folks.

@StrixVaria There are two mod answers already.

2:51 PM
and what Is the Bridge arguing about today?

@Frank "providing more detail" as in a mod solution?

If you can't do exactly what you want without a mod, then suggesting mods is a good alternative answer, but to prefer mods seems wrong.

Minecraft mods can basically alter an arbitrary part of the source code from what I understand
so essentially anything goes

@Rapitor Bounty on this question:

@badp I'm talking about in the general case. If you come up with a new problem you want solved, why on earth would you want a mod-based solution over a non-mod-based one, assuming that the non-mod-based one meets all your requirements?

2:52 PM
@Batophobia That's not more detail. That's going, "These solutions do not interest me, give me a solution that meets my criteria."

There's literally no advantage to asking specifically for a mod-based solution.

@StrixVaria I would prefer a mod so that every new world does not require the vanilla setup

@badp This is why I don't like mod questions. Especially Minecraft mod recommendations.

@Batophobia That is presuming information about the answer, which you shouldn't do if you're asking a question. What if it's just a one-time checkbox?

@StrixVaria Iunno, command blocks can be destroyed, maybe he's playing an older version of minecraft that doesn't have them, or he still wants to take damage à la Half Life 2 buddha mode and no one of the answers does that.

2:53 PM
@StrixVaria But this is a bounty

An explanation of the "why" would've been certainly welcome and it could've narrowed down the scope.

where the answer is known

@Batophobia hm. its a very popular question with high upvotes, why bounty?

@Batophobia Bounties should be subject to the same rules as questions.

@StrixVaria Then awarding a bounty for the sake of giving more rep should be banned

2:54 PM
@Rapitor because bounty giver wants a mod answer (bounty giver is a different person)

@StrixVaria If not held to a higher standard, as normal users can not do anything about them.

@StrixVaria There's a difference between only asking for mods and preferring mods as an answer.
I believe the latter is kosher from what I've read.

It's like if I said "@badp answer this question so I can give you +25 rep"

@badp Ok, I can see that.

@KevinvanderVelden oh jeez I didn't see that. yeah that's bad.

2:55 PM
bounty != question

The bounty is fine. He wants a more specific answer than the ones provided, and if he'd said "solution" instead of "mod" we wouldn't be having this argument.

@Rapitor I disagree, it's just a bounty "Hey, I think this question which already has a acceptable non-mod answer should also get a mod answer."

@JasonBerkan No, it's not.
If the bounty was asked as a question by itself, it would be closed. Hands down, do not pass go.

Also I'm not entirely sure that the XY problem is an issue problem in absolute; usually the issue exists when the choice of X and Y is suboptimal or misguided.

@Frank Agreed but it is a bounty, which is not an independent question

2:57 PM
@Batophobia Not according to the custom text.
"I want a mod that disables death"

@Frank Sorry, but I just cannot be civil in this discussion, so I'm out.

"Preferred: A mod that would completely disable death."

If I asked how can I add numbers together if I only stored their logarithms in memory, I think people would have issue with an answer that said "don't do that, use floating point or arbitrary-large integers instead".

@KevinvanderVelden it's asking a new question. that is an Off Topic question anyway.

@Batophobia He's jumping to a conclusion of what is needed.

2:58 PM
